Opis:
The morphology of pollen grains of 16 species from the Rosa L. genus were studied (i.e. R. agrestis, R. canina, R. dumalis, R. gallica, R. inodora, R. jundzillii, R. kostrakiewiczii, R. majalis, R. micrantha, R. mollis, R. pendulina, R. rubiginosa, R. sherardii, R. tomentosa, R. villosa, and R. zalana). The material came from 16 native localities of those species in Poland. The measurements are based on at least 30-50 randomly selected, fully developed pollen grains per specimen. In total, 500 pollen grains were examined. They were analysed for 13 quantitative features of pollen grains and exine sculpturing and the following qualitative traits: outline, shape, "operculum" structure. The diagnostic features of pollen grains of studied species were: length of polar and equatorial axes and length of ectocolpi. The above-mentioned pollen grain morphological features make isolation of one species possible: R. gallica. R. gallica is distinguished for its highest values of the length of polar and equatorial axes, and the length of ectocolpi. The obtained analytical results of operculum and exine sculpture features, considered as diagnostic, corroborated only slightly their priority significance for the isolation of the examined species and sections. The collected data failed to confirm fully the current taxonomical division of the Rosa genus into sections (only section Gallicanae from R. gallica is isolated) as well as consanguinity relationships between the examined species from the Caninae section. On the dendrogram, both species closely related with each other as well as those from other developmental lines were found in the same group. These equivocal results are by no means surprising because the Caninae section is the most polymorphic group in the Rosa genus, and contemporary Caninae are of the nature of a swarm of R. canina hybrids as a link combining all taxons of the section.

The oil content and fatty acids profile of a number of Polish wild species of rose fruits were examined by GC. The total fatty acid contents ranged from 6.5% to 12.9% of dry mass in fruits. The composition of oils was similar in the investigated species. 17 components were identified. An average composition was estimated as follows: linoleic acid (44.4-55.7%), a-linolenic acid (18.6-31.4%), oleic acid (13.5-20.3%), palmitic acid (2.3-3.3%), stearic acid (1-2.5%), octadecenoic acid (0.38-0.72%), eicosenoic acid (0.3-0.7%), eicosadienoic acid (0-0.16%), erucic acid (0.03-0.17%) and minor fatty acids. The results indicate that rose fruits are a rich source of unsaturated fatty acids, especially in R. rubiginosa, R. rugosa and R. dumalis. There were statistically significant (p<0.05) differences in fatty acid compositions of some species. Fatty acids were suggested to have a potential chemotaxonomic value in this genus.

The morphology and variability of pollen of Rosa pendulina L. were studied. The material came from 10 native localities of this species. 300 pollen grains were examined. It was established that the diagnostic features of pollen grains of R. pendulina L. were: an elongated, narrow operculum, a poorly developed exine sculpture, long ectocolpi (a low value of the apocolpium index), and the predominance of grains elongated in shape. The results obtained usually correspond to data supplied by other palynologists. A statistical analysis of 10 quantitative grain characteristics showed their variability to be rather low. The highest variability was found to occur in two traits connected with d (the distance between the apices of two ectocolpi). Statistical studies revealed dependences among the grains from the 10 analysed localities

Opis:
Ellagic acid (EA) is a natural antioxidant, belonging to the group of polyphenolic compounds. It displays a broad spectrum of pro-health effects, ranging from the prevention of cancer to antiviral properties. It is present in many fruit from the rose family (Rosaceae): strawberries, raspberries, blackberries and walnuts as well as cranberries and grapes. The available literature states that the fruit of roses, in addition to their aesthetic and functional applications, also show therapeutic properties, which, among other things, are associated with a high content of polyphenols, including ellagic acid derivatives. The aim of this research was to determine the differences in the content of free ellagic acid in the fruit of selected rose species. The test material consisted of freeze-dried sublimation and ground fruit from the following species of roses: R. canina, R. moyesii, R. pendulina. The fruit was separated into two fractions: flesh and seeds. Quantitative analysis of free ellagic acid was carried out by spectrofluorimetry. The free EA was present both in the flesh and in the seeds of the studied species of roses. Its content in the mentioned fractions varied depending on the species. The flesh of R. pendulina was characterised by the highest level of EA in free form (247.72 μg·g–1 of dry weight). The seeds of R. moyesii proved to be the most abundant in free EA (105.69 μg·g–1 of dry weight).

Opis:
Salt stress is one of the main causes of plant damage in horticulture and tree die back in cities. It can be of natural origin but most often is due to human activity, eg uncontrolled fertilization or the use excessive amounts of salt for winter maintenance of streets and pavements. Plants are selected for resistance to salt, and laboratory in vitro techniques proved very useful for this purpose. The present experiments aimed to determine tolerance of roses Rosa ‘New Dawn’ to salt. The effect of sodium and calcium chloride on plant growth and shoot development in ‘New Dawn’ rose in in vitro cultures was examined. The plants were cultured on the QL medium containing 5 ěM BA, 0.05 ěM NAA, 0.3 ěM GA3 and 20 g dm–3 sucrose, pH = 5.6, supplemented with NaCl or CaCl2 (at concentrations 0–400 mM). The media containing increasing concentrations of salts under study showed inhibitory effect on regeneration and multiplication of rose shoots. CaCl2 was less toxic than NaCl. An increase in medium salinity, independently of the salt tested, reduced the height of newly grown shoots and the number of leaves. Moreover, the proportion of chlorotic, deformed or necrotic leaves increased with the increasing salt concentration. The media did not affect shoot fresh mass index or fresh-to-dry mass ratio, which remained at the same level independently of chloride concentration in medium.
Przydatna w badaniu selekcyjnym reakcji roślin na zasolenie okazała sie technika laboratoryjna in vitro. W przeprowadzonych doświadczeniach określano tolerancje róż Rosa eNew Dawnf na zasolenie.

This paper presents all taxa of the genus Rosa recorded in 2005–2015 in old cemeteries in Wielkopolska. In the past, roses were frequently planted in cemeteries as ornamentals, contributing to their beauty and specific atmosphere, but they also had many symbolic meanings. Today, historical roses are rare. As a result of floristic research in 2,169 old, neglected cemeteries in Wielkopolska, 35 taxa of roses were found. These include 21 alien taxa and 6 taxa new to Poland.

The aim of the presented research was to develop and optimize a methodology, particularly dedicated for the quantification of pyrethroids in ornamental plant material on the basis of a rose (Rosa hybrid) with the use of HPLC chromatography and QuEChERS extraction method. High repeatability and reproducibility of the results were obtained by using acetonitrile as an eluent. The determined limits of detection and quantification for deltamethrin equal 5.2 ng and 9.3 ng per 1 cm3 of analysed solution respectively. For cypermethrin these values were: LOD 1.2 ng, LOQ 5.0 ng per 1 cm3 of solution. It has been shown that solutions of deltamethrin and cypermethrin are of high stability – they can be stored at room temperature for as long as 28 days without a change in the concentration. The experiments presented showed that the QuEChERS extraction of deltamethrin from the tested samples can be performed with efficiency above 93% using acetonitrile as a solvent, magnesium sulphate and sodium acetate as the separation salts. For purification Supel ™ QUE sorbent by Supelco was successfully applied. The described analytical method may be a valuable and relatively cheap tool to control the amounts of these pesticides sprayed in environment, wherever there is a suspicion of their excessive use.

Genus Rosa L. is one of most critical taxa within European flora. Majority works is devoted to phylogeny, taxonomy and nomenclature of roses. Investigations of morphology and ecology of roses are still relatively few in number. The aim of this study was to evaluate seed mass and seed yield of six rose species (Rosa cinnamomea, R. spinosissima, R. rugosa, R. rubiginosa, R. glauca and R. canina) from populations in Central Russia (Republic of Mordovia). As a result of the study, it was revealed that Rosa rugosa has maximal number of seeds per rosehip among all investigated roses. Roses from section Caninae are characterized by large number of achenes per rosehip too. In contrast, among all investigated species, Rosa cinnamomea have most minimal seed yield. Origin of Rosa spinosissima population in Ruzaevka district (Republic of Mordovia, Central Russia) was proposed as uncertain according to number of seeds per rosehip. At first time, the seed mass of Rosa cinnamomea, R. glauca and R. rubiginosa was revealed.

Opis:
The article provides brief geobotanical characteristics of plant communities of three populations of R. iliensis Chrshan. found in the floodplains of the Ili and Sharyn rivers, as well as presents the morpho-anatomical structure of vegetative organs (stem and leaf) of the species under study. R. iliensis Chrshan. is undoubtedly a rare, endangered species of the flora of Kazakhstan. Its distribution area is shrinking from year to year as a result of the anthropogenic pressure on the environment. The biometric indicators of vegetative organs in the samples collected from populations 1 and 2 were approximately the same. The indicators of the samples collected from population 3 differed substantially. This is a completely natural process, since there are substantial differences in the climatic conditions of the upper and lower parts of the basin where the Ili River flows: a sharp increase in temperature and a decrease in precipitation from high to low hypsometric levels of the basin. Moreover, there is a gradual aridization of the territory from east to west. Naturally, this entails a change in both soil and vegetation cover as well as leaves its mark on the morpho-anatomical structure of vegetative organs. With this in mind, the authors recommend continuous monitoring of the state of the populations at the three sites where R. iliensis Chrshan. was found.

This paper analyses urban spaces of crisis in Isaac Rosa’s novels La mano invisible (2011), La habitación oscura (2013), and the graphic novel Aquí vivió. Historia de un desahucio (2016) by Cristina Bueno and Isaac Rosa. It explores the dystopian and realistic elements in Rosa’s fiction and proposes to read his works through the lens of Michel Foucault’s essay on other spaces. The article argues that the unusual, quasi-dystopian spaces are of a double nature, typical for heterotopias, and play a significant role in the manner in which Rosa depicts the consequences of the economic crisis in Spain at the beginning of the 21st century.
