    In the opinion of the author of this article, Żeromski, showing a tragic picture of the January Uprising in Ravens and Crows Will Peck Us to Pieces, runs very skillfully polemic with the views of Stanislaw Tarnowski, both political and social, which are summarized in the hearing From the experiences and reflections, as well as the aesthetic-literary ones, expressed among other things in the works devoted to Arthur Grottger, Polish romantics or in reviews of Sienkiewicz’s historical novels. Irydion and Konrad Wallenrod play a special role in the intricate network of intertextual references presenting in Żeromski’s story. Count Stanislaw Tarnowski spoke many times about these literary works, occupying a unique position in the minds of Poles living in the 19th century. His writings designate the area of controversy, which is the foundation of imaginative and ideological construction of Żeromski’s story Ravens and Crows Will Peck Us to Pieces.

    The paper addresses narrative strategies applied by Tadeusz Różewicz in his poem Ten to też (This is also) from the volume Szara strefa (Grey zone), an imagined episode in Adam Mickiewicz’s life. The analysis of the ironic intertextual play with the genre of epistolary reminiscences shows the contemporary writer’s struggle with the Romantic myth of the outstanding, pioneering poet. In the light of parallel experiences of living and writing, Różewicz’s dilemmas of an artist and a human being can be shown by means of an apparently amusing story of a social insult. The biographical anecdote turns out to be a latent attempt at an autobiographical utterance.

    This article concentrates on the problem of transgression in the novel Podobojí by Daniela Hodrová. This problem is tracked from the perspective of romantic and post-romantic references to the literary and historical tradition (e.g. the Czech National Revival). One of the key concepts here is death and the metaphor of doubling, which makes the characters in the novel ontologically ambiguous entities. Death is treated in a confrontation with romantic themes, such as the ghost, ghoul, and the double.

    The article focuses on the role of literary tradition, particularly linked to Romanticism, in the poetry of the Skamandrites. The author discusses examples of lyric poetry created after 1918 and manifesting varied approaches to tradition, i.e. rejection, continuation or negation of the key tradition, as well as the attitude of poetry towards history. She also points to the problem of tradition in secondary-level Polish language education and to the teaching concepts designed to develop students’ ability to understand and identify traditions.

    W artykule prześledzono związki ideowe pomiędzy Arturem Górskim (1870–1959), autorem programu Młoda Polska ogłoszonego w krakowskim „Życiu” (1898), a modernistycznym Lwowem. Autorka koncentruje się na lwowskich epizodach biografii pisarza: pracy Górskiego nad rękopisami Samuela Zborowskiego i Zawiszy Czarnego Słowackiego w bibliotekach lwowskich, kontynuacji inicjatyw z kręgu lwowskich zwolenników powrotu do tradycji romantycznej, w tym myśli Mickiewicza, popularności Górskiego, autora Monsalwatu (1908) w kręgu młodzieży lwowskiej. Celem rozważań jest odpowiedź na pytanie, dlaczego Górski waloryzował Lwów modernistyczny kosztem Krakowa modernistycznego, z którym związane były początki jego twórczości.
    The article traces the ideological affinities between Artur Górski (1870–1959), the author of programme Młoda Polska announced in “Życie” (1898) in Cracow, and the modernist Lviv. The author concentrates on the events from the writer’s life in Lviv: his work on Słowacki’s manuscripts (Samuel Zborowski and Zawisza Czarny) in the libraries of Lviv, his continuation of the initiative of Romantic followers, including the legacy of Mickiewicz, as well as Górski’s own popularity with the youth. The article attempts to answer the question why Górski valorized Lviv at the expense of the modernist Cracow, in which his work began.

    Tematem artykułu jest cykl Symphonie – Scalenia zawarty w juwenilnym tomie poezji Karola Wojtyły zatytułowanym Psałterz Dawidów (Księga Słowiańska). Autorka, koncentrując się na semantyce terminu „symfonia” użytego przez młodego poetę w kontekście genologicznym, wskazuje na tradycje literackie, z których można wywieść koncepcję łączenia gatunków literackich i muzycznych, zwłaszcza na romantyczną correspondance des arts. Idąc tym tropem, pokazuje, że poemat Mοuσικη [Mousike] można czytać jako literacki odpowiednik allegra sonatowego. Przede wszystkim interesuje ją jednak sama idea „symfoniczności” w ujęciu Wojtyły, która ewoluowała w późniejszej myśli o muzyce Jana Pawła II. W uprzywilejowaniu przez Papieża sztuki dźwięków jako mistycznej „mowy bez słów” pozwalającej na harmonijne połączenie wymiaru ludzkiego z Boskim, autorka dostrzega przetworzenie młodzieńczej idei „symfoniczności” pojmowanej w kategoriach mediacyjnych (jako „scalanie”, „uzgadnianie”, „łączenie”).
    The subject of this article is the Symphonie – Scalenia [Symphonies – Unifications] series contained in the juvenilia volume of Karol Wojtyła’s poetry entitled Psałterz Dawidów (Księga Słowiańska) [The Psalter of David (The Slavonic Book)]. The author, focusing on the semantics of the term “symphony,” points to those literary traditions from which the concept of combining literary and musical genres can be derived, especially the romantic correspondance des arts. Following this lead, the article shows that the poem Mοuσικη [Music] can be understood as the literary equivalent of a sonata-allegro. Above all, however, the author is interested in the very idea of the “symphony” in Wojtyła’s approach, which evolved in the later writings of John Paul II on music. The Pope’s favouring of the art of sounds as a mystical “speech without words,” which enables the harmonious combination of the human and the divine, is here presented as the transformation of his youthful idea of a “symphony” as comprehended in mediatorial terms (“merging,” “reconciliation,” “connecting”).

    W artykule przedstawione zostały trzy granice występujące w liryce Jana Lechonia. Wewnętrzny dramat jednostki, widoczny w wybranych poezjach w Srebrnym i czarnym (1924, powtórne wydanie w 1928), staje się głównym punktem interpretacji. Liryki skamandrytów są istotnym źródłem korespondencji dla utworów J. Lechonia. Dlatego jego liryka przedstawiona została na tle poetyckim znanych twórców międzywojennych, Juliana Tuwima, Władysława Sebyły, Marii Pawlikowskiej-Jasnorzewskiej i Kazimierza Wierzyńskiego. Miejsce poezji J. Lechonia w tej formacji poetyckiej zdaje się być szczególnie ważne. Dlatego tak istotne okazuje się wskazanie związków pomiędzy utworami wymienionych poetów, które określić można jako aluzje literackie oraz relacje wewnątrztekstualne, a wierszami J. Lechonia. Wyznaczają one potencjalną metodę lektury tych tekstów. Związki intertekstualne między niektórymi utworami, szczególnie widoczne w Wielkiej niedźwiedzicy (1923) Kazimierza Wierzyńskiego, w Rzeczy czarnoleskiej (1929) Juliana Tuwima, w Pieśniach szczurołapa (1930) Władysława Sebyły oraz w Surowym jedwabiu (1932) Marii Pawlikowskiej-Jasnorzewskiej, są reminiscencją wizji człowieka ze Srebrnego i czarnego i stają się jedną z możliwych interpretacji tych liryków. W literaturze przedmiotu problem ten nie został dotychczas podjęty. Taki sposób lektury może być nową odsłoną liryki międzywojennej. W poezjach J. Lechonia interesująca jest także istota liryki i odgrywana przez nią rola. Można zaobserwować stopniową ewolucję poezji autora Srebrnego i czarnego. Dlatego należałoby oddzielić od siebie jego twórczość międzywojenną od powojennej. W niniejszej odsłonie przedstawione zostały różnice między kreacją człowieka we wczesnych lirykach i w późnych wierszach J. Lechonia. Najważniejszą wypadkową tego odczytania jest aspekt wielowymiarowości liryki poety na tle międzywojennego warszawskiego środowiska poetyckiego.
    In the article have been presented three borders in Jan Lechoń’s poetry. Internal drama of person is visible in his selected poems in Srebrne i czarne (1924, second edition in 1928) that becomes the main point of interpretation. Lyrics of Skamander group are important correspondence for Lechoń’s poems. His poetry have been presented on background of lyrics of know interwar poets, Julian Tuwim, Władysław Sebyła, Maria Pawlikowska-Jasnorzewska and Kazimierz Wierzyński. The place of Lechoń’s poems in Skamander group seems to be particulary important. It is possible to recover associations between lyrics of chosen poets, which should be define like literature allusions or intertext relationships, depending on accepted method of interpretation literature. Intertexsts relation between them, particularly visible in Wielka niedźwiedzica (1923) written by Kazimierz Wierzyński, Rzecz czarnoleska (1929) created by Julian Tuwim, Pieśni szczurołapa (1930) Sebyła’s poems and Surowy jedwab (1932) written by Maria Pawlikowska-Jasnorzewska, are reminiscence of human being presented in Srebrne i czarne, and seems to be one of many possible interpretation. Until now in literature of subject this problem was not taken, therefore it can bring new interpretative solutions. The third visible border in Lechoń’s poetry seem to be the essence of lyric and its function. It is possible to observe distinct evolution of Lechoń’s poetry. Therefore, we should separate his interwar work from post-war wrote on emigration. In this interpretation have been chosen differences between presentation of person and his attitude in early and late lyrical Lechoń’s work. The main conclusion in the article seems to be the aspect of unique multivoice structure of poetry in interwar literature environment in Warsaw.

    The aim of the article is to interpret Ignacy Karpowicz’s novel Balladyny i romanse in the context of romantic literature. The concept of romantic irony becomes the main theme and here in this article it distinguishes, in Karpowicz’s work, the aesthetic features that are characteristic of such romantic texts as Balladyna or Beniowski by Juliusz Słowacki. The contradictions that are characteristic of romantic irony in Karpowicz’s novel exist as a process of creating and destroying, where interweaving and complicating cultures and orders result in creating a chaotic but deliberate reality. The digressive character of the novel, metaliterary reflections and selfreference, reveal the author’s attitude to the creative process as an intellectual, romantic and ironic game.

    The article presents the importance of vagrant singers (bandurists) who are using bagpipes or bandura string instrument in history and culture of the Ukrainian people. I have been focusing not only on the development of the instruments used by singers itself, but also on the oral tradition that is carried out in their performances. Emphasis has been placed on showing their art during the Cossacks historical era as beyond doubt in this period it developed in Ukraine the most. This was primarily caused by the emerge of the guilds gathering singers. The special attention was given also to the Romantic period in which pipe playing has been vastly landmark in works of the most important Ukrainian writers and painters. I discussed also a period of persecution and manslaughter over this particular group of artists during the Soviet times, which greatly hampered the further development and heritage of pipe playing. Hopefully it gets slowly reborn in the independent Ukraine.

    I argue for amazing values of the tradition of romanticism. I pay attention to connections between this tradition and the present. I write about necessary changes in reading romantic literature at school. In my point of view the most important is not to talk only about national values. It is really necessary in Poland. We must not continue to think that patriotism means only fighting with other people. Forming students’ national identity is one of the main duties at school but the romantic way of understanding patriotism has to be changed. It is very dangerous in our century. Many researchers also write about it. It is a very important problem of literary studies. I also present suggestions to work with Reduta Ordona in primary school and in junior high school. There are different ideas presented in methodical literature as well as my own suggestions.

    Zajmują mnie powiązania kultury ponowoczesnej z tradycją romantyczną: twórcze sposoby jej wyrażania oraz takie, które wiążą się z procesem petryfikacji romantyzmu. Proponuję syntetyczne ujęcie, które pozwala pokazać charakter na-wiązań obecnych w ponowoczesnej sztuce: od pastiszy i intertekstualnych gier z romantycznymi tekstami po sprzeciw wobec romantycznych mitów kształtują-cych wyobrażenia o wspólnocie narodowej. Nadto przywołuję romantyczne tropy w geopoetyce tworzonej przez Kennetha White, propagującego powrót do natury i odwołującego się do twórczości Friedricha Hölderlina, Nowalisa, Walta Whitmana. Wskazuję na związki z romantyzmem w eseistyczno-historycznej literaturze podejmującej reinterpretację dziewiętnastowiecznej historii. Przede wszystkim jednak interesują mnie więzi romantyzmu z popkulturą, zwłaszcza dotyczące odnawiania języka narracji o historycznym doświadczeniu Polaków. Panoramę powiązań kultury współczesnej z tradycją romantyczną w ujęciu syn-tetycznym dopełniam interpretacją, pozwalającą wnikliwiej odsłonić wielopla-nowość odniesień do romantyzmu w ponowoczesnej sztuce. Pokazuję, w jaki sposób Radosław Rychcik przełożył „Dziady” Mickiewicza na język popkultury oraz jakie problemy wiążą się z tego typu interpretacją tekstu dawnego. Przed-stawiona sieć powiązań, przekonuje o potrzebie wypracowania otwartej i dynamicznej postawy wobec dzieł, w których odnaleźć można asocjacje między tradycją romantyczną a popkulturą.
    In my research I concentrate on postmodern culture and its ties with the Romantic tradition: creative ways of expressing it, as well as those that are associated with the process of petrification of Romanticism (hip-hop projects referring to the patriotic and national Romanticism). I proposea synthetic approach, which enables us to demonstrate the character of references present in postmodern art, from pastiche and intertextual games with Romantic lyrics in opposition to the romantic myths that shape the image of the national community (Dorota Masłowska “Wojna polsko-ruska pod flagą biało-czerwoną”; Sylwia Chutnik “Kieszonkowy atlas kobiet”, Ignacy Karpowicz, “Ości”). Moreover, I discuss Romantic themes in the geopoetics of Kenneth White, who promotes a return to nature and refers to the works of Friedrich Hölderlin, Novalis, and Walt Whitman. I point out associations with Romanticism in essays and historical literature reinterpreting the nineteenth-century history (György Spiró, “Messiahs”; Paweł Goźliński, “Jul”; Jacek Dehnel, “Matka Makryna”). Above all, I am interested in Romantic ties with pop culture, especially concerning the renewal of the language of the narrative of the historical experience of Poles (“Powstanie warszawskie” by Lao Che, “Noc żywych Żydów” by Igor Ostachowicz, “Miasto 44” by Jan Komasa). The synthetic overview of the links between contemporary culture and the Romantic tradition is accompanied with an interpretation that reveals the multifaceted references to Romanticism in postmodern art. I demonstrate how Radosław Rychcik translated Mickiewicz’s “Forefathers’ Eve” into the language of pop culture, and what problems are associated with this type of interpretation of an old text. The network of connections indicates the need to develop an open and dynamic attitude towards works in which one can find associations between the Romantic tradition and pop culture.

    The article reviews Agata Seweryn’s book titled Between the Worlds. Studies in the Literature of the Enlightenment and Romanticism, accounting for the composition of the book, examining research problems raised in it in greater detail, and discussing essays included in the publication as supplementing existing interpretations of selected Romantic works. Seweryn is argued to draw attention to those aspects that reveal the richness inherent in the discussed works, which are demonstrated as not having been exhausted yet. These works are analysed in the reviewed book by pursing references to the baroque tradition, or by reflecting on their relationship with normative poetics and rhetoric.

    In 1853, Karel Jaromír Erben published a collection of ballads Kytice, which was immediately seen as a model of national literature. The contact of this model with Romanticism is only selective, because it does not consider all the metaphysical dilemmas resulting from the appreciation of the individualistic attitude to the world. It might seem that Kytice should share the fate of other 19th century texts of culture which are currently attributed the position of a respectable, old fashioned literary monument. Meanwhile, in recent years, two novels have been published directly drawing inspiration and thematic material from the life of the poet, namely: Vřeteno osudu. Tajná zpověď by Karel Jaromír Erben by Otomar Dvořák (2015) and Stará škola by Petr K. Procházka (2022). Both literary biographies expose the close, though hidden, connections between Erben’s poetics and worldview with the Romantic aesthetic and ideological context.

Autorka omawia kompozycję książki oraz szczegółowiej przygląda się problemom badawczym w niej poruszonym. Zamieszczone w publikacji studia komentuje jako interesujące propozycje uzupełnień interpretacyjnych wybranych wierszy i dzieł romantycznych. Zwraca uwagę na te aspekty, które odsłaniają tkwiące w utworach a nie wystarczająco dotąd opisane bogactwo. Wprowadzają je odniesienia do tradycji barokowej i refleksja nad poetyką normatywną i retoryką.
    The article is a review of Agata Seweryn’s book Between the Worlds. Studies in the Literature of the Enlightenment and Romanticism. The review’s author presents the composition of the book and examines the research problems raised in it in greater detail. She comments on the studies included in the publication as interesting suggestions for interpretive supplements of selected romantic poems and works. She draws attention to those aspects that reveal the richness inherent in the works, and not yet described enough. They are introduced by references to the Baroque tradition or reflection on normative poetics and rhetorics.
