This paper concerns the process of negotiating author and reader roles in the blogosphere. The starting point of this article is the theory of Roland Barthes that the death of the author is necessary for the birth of the reader. This idea notably responds to changing relations between the author and the reader in the new nedia era. The exemple of the blogosphere allows us to see that the roles of the author and the reader are not pre-defined and the filed of their "laws" is negotiated (two models of negotiations are described in this paper). In the blogosphere, wkich is an exemple of participatory culture, knocking the author off his pedestal does not result in the reader replacing the author, as R. Barthes would like. On the empty pedestal, after dumping the author, the reader does not appear - but communication does.

The article discusses Roland Barthes’ experience of photography and presents its distinctive dramaturgy, which emerges from the reflections of the author of The Light of Image. It is played out between attempts at a theoretical grasp of the essence of photography and a personal, intimate experience of being photographed, but also of being a spectator looking at various photographs. Barthes places this experience in two basic perspectives. The first is connected with the process of taking photographs and the second with the experience of the spectator. This also includes the experience of photography with one’s own image, which according to the author, is always an experience of oneself as someone else, and the experience of searching for “the truth of photography”, especially important in the context of the photographs of his deceased mother. It is significant in Barthes’s concept that he is talking about traditional photography which had a completely different character and performed different functions to digital images do today. Moreover, as the author notes, Barthes’s theoretical findings would be untenable in relation to digital photography.

Roland Barthes was not only a literary theorist, a critic or a semiotician. Above all, he was concerned with signs, symbols and representations which shape the everyday life and nourish both identities of the individual subject and the social group. As the world celebrates in 2015 the centenary of his birth, the question of his intellectual and literary legacies has never been more relevant. In the large scope of his works, L’Empire des signes, published in 1970 following several trips to Japan, is rather a particular piece which hinges on a specific combination of text and images. By looking at the structure of Barthes’s work and the relationship between the author’s discourse and the meanings released through the images, this paper aims to highlight the poetics of the image as a founding element in L’Empire des signes. The study of three categories of images used in the volume and their confrontation with the author’s developments shed new light on the contribution of the iconographic element towards a valuable understanding of signs and significations.

Na skrzyżowaniu myślenia postsrtukturalistycznego, psychoanalizy i teorii afektów, autoanaliza ma polegać na pogłębionej relacji z samym sobą, wobec której klasyczna autobiografia pozostaje tylko na powierzchni poznania. Intymna teoria literatury Rolanda Barthes'a jest tu swoistym otwarciem na tego rodzaju przestrzeń rozróżnień. Autorka skupia się na analizie afektu miłosnego, która pomaga jej zaprezentować przygodny charakter bodźca do samopoznania. Jest to afekt, który zostaje tu wpisany w przedmiot zainteresowań literaturoznawców chcących zmierzyć się z zagadnieniem autoanalizy.
The author comes up with a theoretical proposal to extract autoanalysis from autobiography. At the crossroads of psychoanalysis, poststructualism and the affect theory concepts, autoanalysis shall be based on deepened relation with oneself, in opposition to the classical autobiography, which stays only on the surface level of cognition. Intimate theory of literature by Roland Barthes opens up to this type of area of distinction. The author focuses on the affect of love, which helps her present unexpected stimulus of getting to know one self and simultaneously define the auto-analytic perspective of literature research.

Cuban migrants are considered as and referred to as exiles. However, in the face of the economic transformations in Cuba, as well as the rapprochement between the U.S. and Cuba, it has become necessary to revise the epistemological and semiotic foundations of this phenomenon. The current migratory trends among the Cubans do not meet the definition of exiles. Thus, the title of this article reflects the research assumption and the principal aim that the current circumstances in Cuba, as well as the migratory flows of Cubans mark the decline of the myth of the Cuban exile; a myth built by the media.

He also presents a choice of translation problems encountered while working on Roland Barthes.

My guiding quest-ion is how to convey, speak of, and prepare apprenticeships in creativity. This study emerges from experiences and reflections on the vocation of teaching courses in philosophy, and from having lived through an apprenticeship in my formative years. In an apprenticeship, one draws upon one’s own horizon of entrance, to inhabit an embrasure. The space of an embrasure delimits the problem of form, while the formed and delimited aperture allows space to be displaced and reconstructed. Such is how muthos, istoria, and logos become differing potential of their own presence persisting again as the difference that poses itself as foreign. Such is the beauty of pedagogical discourse that is never foreign to both sides of an embrasure.

Artykuł rozważa funkcję nadmiarowego detalu w realistycznej deskrypcji, a w szczególności w prozie Gustave’a Flauberta. Analizowany fragment opisu z Prosty serca Flauberta stał się przedmiotem refleksji Rolanda Barthes’a we Wstępie do analizy strukturalnej opowiadań oraz w Efekcie rzeczywistości. Wiszący nad pianinem barometr – ów zbędny szczegół – miałby fundować referencjalne złudzenie, czyli oznaczać samą kategorię „rzeczywistości”. Artykuł przedstawia rozliczne polemiki, jakimi obrosła ta interpretacja, by wyróżnić spośród nich krytyczną rewizję Jacques’a Rancière’a wyłożoną w Le fil perdu. Filozof odwraca tezy Barthes’a: w barometrze pani Aubain dostrzega nie tyle figurę referencjalnej pełni, co znak rozsadzający światoobraz, wymykający się konsensualnym uzgodnieniom. W tej perspektywie nadmiarowy detal jest stricte skandaliczny: stanowi przeszkodę dla interpretacji, która zmierza do zintegrowania wszystkich tekstowych znaków i ujawnia skandaliczną, rudymentarną równość wpisaną w porządek zmysłowego.
The article discusses the function of redundant details in realistic descriptions, especially in Gustave Flaubert’s prose. The analysed fragment of the description from Gustav Flaubert’s “A Simple Heart” was also discussed by Roland Barthes’ in An Introduction to the. Structural Analysis of Narrative and in The Reality Effect. The barometer hanging over the piano – the mentioned superfluous detail – was supposed to trigger a reference illusion by belonging to the category of “reality”. The article presents numerous views on the mentioned issue. It focuses on what Jacques Rancière writes in Le fil perdu. The philosopher reverses Barthes’ thesis: Namely, Mrs. Aubain’s barometer does not serve as a figure of a referential fullness, but rather as a sign disrupting the image of the world. In this light, the redundant detail is stricte scandalous: it prevents proper interpretation that aims to integrate all text signs and reveals a scandalous, rudimentary equality inscribed in the sensual order.

We intend to demonstrate Roland Barthes’ influence of on the work of Nancy Huston. Barthes, a theorist who led the academic work of Nancy Huston, fascinated his Canadian student who chose French as the language of her writings, because she assigned to it the function of liberation. Our intention is to ascertain whether Nancy Huston's career is, in fact, contained within her mentor’s structuralist framework, or whether it can be interpreted as an insubordinate act of criticism for the structuralist wave. We will try to understand Huston's attitude towards the master whose rigidity paralyzed all her attempts at writing, and also the fact that after Huston all romantic constructions seemed inaccessible.
Nous nous proposons de démontrer l'influence de Roland Barthes sur le travail de Nancy Huston. Ce théoricien, qui dirigea les travaux universitaires de Nancy Huston, avait façonné l’univers de cette étudiante canadienne qui adopte la langue française qui est pour elle une langue étrangère comme objet d'écriture, car elle lui attribuait une fonction de libération. Notre intention est de vérifier si le parcours de Nancy Huston est, en effet, inscrit sous l’empreinte structuraliste de son mentor ou bien s’il peut être interprété comme acte insubordonné et critique de la vague structuraliste. Nous essayerons de comprendre l’attitude de Huston face à un maître dont la rigidité paralysait toutes tentatives d’écriture, et où, d’après elle, toutes constructions romancières paraissaient inaccessibles.

The article discusses an essay collection by Marek Bieńczyk, Przeźroczystość [Transparency]. The concept, placed in various context, shows various aspects and is seen in various shades. The author does not put forward a statement, but rather proposes a work to be done: to determine the modality of transparency. The concept initially seems to be mainly epistemological: the cognizant subject would like to make the world transparent, to discover all possible mysteries. Before that, however, the subject must know itself, and here the dream of transparency also plays the key role. Lack of epistemological transparency is the main cause of melancholy and its reverse — hysteria. The concept turns out to be important in the domain of love — the loer thinks that (s)he knows the desired person more better anybody else, that (s)he has entirely penetrated the subjectivity of the Other. Ultimately, however, the dream of transparency goes down to a slow demise of the subject: as self-discovery progresses, there is less and less of the discoverer. In conclusion of this work, the border of modality of the concept turns out to be horrifyingly obvious. The desire for transparency consequently searches not for knowledge, but for an escape whose name is death.

Der Beitrag ist ein Versuch, das Phänomen und Selbstverständnis der Pop-Generation in der deutschen Kulturlandschaft, wie sie sich bei dem „popkulturellen Quintett“ im Buch Tristesse Royale darstellen und zwei Romane von Christian Kracht (Faserland und 1979) mitprägen, analytisch zu erörtern. Die literaturwissenschaftliche Auseinandersetzung geht von der Ich-Konstruktion des Erzählers aus und bemüht sich (u. a. unter Hinzuziehung der Begriffe aus der Zeichentheorie Roland Barthes’), das Literarische der Prosa Krachts zu erfassen. Indem die ‚Möbiusschleife‘ als Denkfigur des Quintetts und narratives Modell auf die Erzählweise Krachts angewandt wird, werden deren Struktur, Dynamik und Modi (z.B. Ironie) aufgezeigt und ergründet.
Przedmiotem artykułu są fenomen i samowiedza generacji pop w niemieckim pejzażu kulturalnym, jakie wyłaniają się z autoprzedstawienia „kwintetu popkulturalnego“ w książce Tristesse Royale i stanowią tło dwóch powieści Christiana Krachta (Faserland i 1979). Badanie literaturoznawcze przyjmuje za punkt wyjścia konstrukcję narracyjnego Ja i usiłuje (m.in. sięgając do pojęć teorii znaków Rolanda Barthesa) określić literacki charakter prozy Krachta. Wykorzystanie w analizie ‚wstęgi Möbiusa‘ jako figury intelektualnej kwintetu oraz jako modelu narracyjnego pozwala ukazać i zgłębić strukturę, dynamikę i sposoby działania (np. ironię) omawianych narracji.
The subject of the essay is the phenomenon and self-consciousness of the pop generation in German cultural landscape, as depicted in the „popcultural quintet’s“ self-representation in Tristesse Royale and used as background of two novels by Christian Kracht (Faserland and 1979). The starting point of the analysis which, (referring to the concepts of Roland Barthes’ theory of signs) undertakes to define the nature of Kracht’s literariness in the construction of the first person narrative in Faserland. The ‚Möbius strip‘, used as an intellectual figure of the quintet and also as a narrative model, enables to describe the structure, dynamics and modi operandi (e.g. irony) of the discussed narrations.

Celem artykułu jest analiza semiologiczna tekstu Alfabet leminga autorstwa Roberta Mazurka, opublikowanego 9 lipca 2012 roku w tygodniku „Uważam Rze”. Analiza została przeprowadzona z uwzględnieniem teorii semiologii mediów stworzonej przez Rolanda Barthesa i opublikowanej w pracy Mitologie. Celem opracowania jest krytyczne zaprezentowanie zastosowania metody Barthesa, umiejscowienie jej w teorii badania mediów oraz ocena jej przydatności dla dalszych badań tekstów medialnych.
The goal of the paper is to analyse the text Alfabet leminga by Robert Mazurek which was published on 9 July 2012 in the Polish weekly “Uważam Rze”. The study draws on Roland Barthes’ media semiology originated in the book Mythologies. The paper aims at testing Barthes’ method in critical way critically; the goal is also to place it in the media science theory and to evaluate its usefulness for the further research.

The article is an attempt of the analysis and the interpretation of the categories ‘pleasure’ (Fr. plaisir) and ‘delight’ (Fr. jouissance), in the context of philosophically oriented theoretical‑literary considerations of Roland Barthes, sacrificed to the mystery of experiencing of the love. The part first, referring mainly to Barthes’ works, recognises the range of the semantic field plaisir and jouissance, as categories basic for the textual language of the outstanding theoretician. The second part introduces three examples of western cultural practices which illustrate the manner of use plaisir and jouissance as the factors of textual structures.

Artykuł poświęcony jest funkcjonowaniu kategorii przyjemności lekturowej oraz jej wariantów w rodzimym dyskursie krytycznoliterackim. Autor przypomina w zarysie koncepcje lektury afektywnej w myśli Rolanda Barthes’a, opierając się przede wszystkim na głośnych esejach Od dzieła do tekstu oraz Przyjemność tekstu; rekonstruuje także przekonania wyrażone przez Jana Błońskiego w programowym eseju Romans z tekstem. Stawia tezę, że ujęcia te od lat 60. XX wieku zdążyły stać się domyślnymi punktami odniesienia w postrzeganiu kategorii przyjemności w polskiej krytyce literackiej, mimo że często pojmowane są w sposób intuicyjny.
The article is devoted to the category of readerly pleasure and its variants in Polish critical and literary discourse. The author discusses the category of readerly pleasure developed by Roland Barthes, primarily in his famous essays “From Work to Text” and The Pleasure of the Text; he also reconstructs Jan Błoński’s views expressed in the programmatic essay Romans z tekstem [Love affair with the text]. The author argues that since the 1960s these approaches have become default points of reference in the perception of the category of pleasure in Polish literary criticism, even though they are often understood in an intuitive way.
