The aim of the article is to provide key statistical data concerning Polish repatriation policy and the repatriation process. The author begins with information on the total number of people of Polish descent who were repatriated under the Repatriation Act, the repatriates’ place of settlement in Poland and their household structure. The next section looks at the financial support from the state budget granted to the repatriates, the local governments organizing repatriation and employers offering jobs to repatriates. In the final section the author examines the factors that stimulate repatriation to Poland.

The aim of the article is to introduce the legal framework of Polish repatriation policy and evaluate the national repatriation program. The first section of the paper reviews Polish repatriation law, with main focus on the Repatriation Act. Next, the author presents the outcomes of the repatriation program (mainly the issues related to social adaptation and financial assistance), its main obstacles and drawbacks. In the final section the proposals for revision of repatriation policy (legislative initiatives and experts’ proposals) are discussed.

The position of the Government Plenipotentiary for Repatriation, as an organ of the state administration, is rather specific and untypical. The function of the Plenipotentiary ought to be situated somewhere between a political post and an administrative one. Analyses of the legal solution in this respect lead to the conclusion that the organ in question is invested with the majority of characteristics attributed to central organs of state administration. It does, however, in view of the fact that this function is presently held by a secretary of state, possess a political character. What was decisive about the establishment of the post of Government Plenipotentiary for Repatriation was obviously the criteria related to increasing effectiveness and effectivity of actions, as well as the wish to accentuate the significance of repatriation among priorities of the immigration policy.

The aim of the article is to describe the Polish population transfers (resettlement, repatriation) from the historical, legal and demographic perspective. The main focus is placed on the post‑war migration. The paper begins with a brief introduction of the legal framework for resettlement of Polish citizens in the interwar period. Next, the author discusses the population transfers from the USSR (mostly from Lithuanian, Byelorussian and Ukrainian SSRs) to Poland in 1944–47. In the next section the population transfers in 1955–59 are covered.

The objective of this paper is to critically assess the framework of repatriation policy in Poland, with particular attention given to the role of local communities and non‑governmental organizations (NGOs). The author claims that the government still has not elaborated a sound answer to repatriation problems. Therefore, NGOs should play a more important role in immigration policy planning and management. The first section of the article presents the duties of the governmental bodies related to the repatriation process and social adaptation of repatriates. In the second section the author emphasizes the potential advantages of NGOs’ involvement in this process, and looks at existing good practices.

Repatriacja po upadku ZSRR dość szybko stała się ważnym elementem debaty publicznej. Podkreślano konieczność wynagrodzenia polskim obywatelom losu, który przyniosły im procesy polityczne i reżim stalinowski. Celem prezentowanego artykułu jest dokonanie analizy pojęcia „repatriacja” i omówienie zjawiska, jakim jest ten proces oraz analiza aktualnie obowiązujących przepisów umożliwiających nabycie obywatelstwa polskiego w drodze repatriacji. Pośrednio przeprowadzona analiza porównawcza odnosi się również do innych aktów prawnych związanych z kwestią obywatelstwa polskiego. Mimo szczerych chęci ustawodawcy (wyrażonych w preambule ustawy o repatriacji), przepisy ustawowe pozostają pełne niejasnych konstrukcji, a przede wszystkim pozbawione są konkretnych informacji, które umożliwiają osobom zainteresowanym powzięcie koniecznych kierunków działania. Dodatkowo niektóre z przepisów stoją ze sobą w sprzeczności, albo nie realizują podstawowych zasad prawa administracyjnego.
Repatriation after the collapse of the USSR quickly became an important element of public debate. The necessity to reward Polish citizens for the fate brought about by the political trials and the Stalinist regime was emphasized. The aim of the presented article is to analyze the concept of repatriation and to discuss the phenomenon of this process as well as to analyze the currently applicable regulations enabling the acquisition of Polish citizenship through repatriation. Indirectly, the comparative analysis will also refer to other legal acts related to the issue of Polish citizenship. The legislator, despite his sincere intentions (expressed in the preamble to the Repatriation Act), the statutory provisions remain full of unclear structures and, above all, are devoid of specific information that allows interested persons to obtain the necessary data and directions of action. Additionally, some of the provisions contradict or do not implement the basic principles of administrative law.

El objetivo de este trabajo es explorar la construcción de identidades masculinas entre adolescentes mexicanos que han cruzado, de forma indocumentada, a estados Unidos. Basándonos en observaciones y entrevistas realizadas a adolescentes que han sido repatriados por la frontera entre Matamoros, tamaulipas y Brownsville, texas, al noreste de México y sur de texas, respectivamente, se exploran las experiencias migratorias de éstos. Por un lado, analizo las formas de socialización y emigración masculina que viven los adolescentes en sus comunidades de origen, por otro lado, la experiencia de viajar a la frontera y cruzarla de forma indocumentada, viviendo diferentes riesgos, y, finalmente, la repatriación que tuvieron por parte de agentes de la Patrulla Fronteriza. tomando como punto de partida teórico que los adolescentes viven tanto un aprendizaje como una mística de la masculinidad, se plantea que la experiencia migratoria de México a estados Unidos los somete a un proceso en el que refuerzan y redefinen significados sobre ser un hombre o llegar a serlo.

This article is devoted to contemporary return migrations by Kazakhs – a process of great significance for the population and cultural policies of the government of independent Kazakhstan. I examine the repatriation process of the Kazakh population from the point of view of the cultural transformations of Kazakh society itself, unveiling the intended and unintended effects of these return migrations. The case of the Kazakh returns is a historically unique phenomenon, yet it provides data permitting the formulation of broader generalisations. It illustrates the dual impact of culturally different environments, which leads to a simultaneous preserving and changing of the culture of the new immigrants. The analyses found in this article are based upon data collected during two periods of fieldwork conducted in June–July 2016 and March 2018 at several locations in Kazakhstan and in cooperation with a Kazakh university. The research methodology is anchored in multi-sited, multi-year fieldwork.

This document presents the report of the Commissioner of the Government for the Jewish population in Poland, which includes the period from the establishment of the Office 8 August 1946 to 22 June 1947. The task of the Government Commissioner was to help in the reconstruction of the Jewish population in postwar Poland. The Commissioner was responsible for repatriation of the Jewish people assistance in gaining employment and qualifications. He also undertook activities connected with social welfare, education, as well as emigration. In his report he also referred to a wide diversity of Jewish population in terms of political and organizational issues. This document also contains information about the organization of the Commission Government Office, and its cooperation with the authorities of the State administration and the Jewish organizations in Poland.

„Repatriacja” przymusowa zawsze pozostawia w sercu osoby wywiezionej ślad zaznanej krzywdy. Historia, zwłaszcza wojenna oraz powojenna, niejednokrotnie ukazuje los ludzi dotkniętych koniecznością pozostawienia domu rodzinnego, dorobku całego życia, przyjaciół, środowiska. Polacy mieszkający na Kresach Wschodnich bardzo dotkliwie odczuli decyzje państwa sowieckiego ingerującego w życie wielu narodów, a także trójki jałtańskiej troszczącej się o lepszy los mocarstw nie zważając na potrzeby i odczucia narodów mniejszych. Ten artykuł ma na celu ukazać cele jakimi kierowali się rządzący decydując o masowej wędrówce ludów, także sposoby „repatriacyjne” władz radzieckich wobec narodu polskiego zamieszkującego Galicję Wschodnią oraz skutki tych działań. W zasadzie praca będzie oparta na „nieznanych” dokumentach archiwalnych, które zostały zgromadzone i wydane przez ukraińskiego historyka Włodzimierza Serhijczuka. Ukazują one nie tylko sposoby działania rządzących, ale także opisują nastroje, jakie panowały wśród zdezorientowanej ludności oraz reakcje Polaków zamieszkujących Kresy.
Forcible repatriation always caused sense of wrong. The history, especially of war and post-war periods, shows lives of people who were deprived of their family home, property, friends and environment. The Poles, who used to live in Eastern Borderlands (Kresy Wschodnie), experienced the decision of Soviet and Crimea Conference very painfully, as the allied powers cared for their own business and did consider the needs and feelings of smaller nations. The aim of this statement is to show what the aim of the Soviet government was, when it decided about the repatriation, what the ways of repatriation were and what the results of the repatriation were. This article is based on unknown archive documents, collected and published by the Ukrainian historian Volodymyr Serhyichuk. The documents show not only the ways of action of Soviet but also people reaction and feeling.

The article deals with the issue of repatriation of prisoners of war of the 5-th Polish rifle Division in the Minusinsk's County of the Yenisejsk`s province in the early 1920 's. After the conclusion of the of Riga peace treaty between Poland and Soviet Russia the repatriation procedure was started. At that time in the Minusinsk's County was 418 prisoners of war. There were prisoners of the Austro-Hungarian and German armies and the former lieges of the Russian Empire. Natives of the Russian Empire accounted for one third group of Polish prisoners of war, but among them were many representatives of the nobility, as well as persons who have received education before the war. The Prisoners of war were part of labour brigades in the Yeniseijsk`s province which were sent to the logging and working industrial enterprises. All of the prisoners of war were to be registered. Special Commission including the Soviet leaders of Polish origin, dedicated to setting of Polish nationality to persons who had no documents. During the registration, some of the prisoners of war were persecuted by the Cheka. The arrested prisoners were charged with voluntary service for Kolchak, counter-revolutionary propaganda. It was a violation of the Agreement of the repatriation between Poland and Soviet Russia. After the repatriation a small group of Polish prisoners of war remained to Minusinsk`s County.
