The paper discusses religious references in poems from Z ziemi do nieba, a poetry book published by Władysław Graban in 2015. These references appear at a number of  language levels: lexis, orthography, phraseology (including paraphrases of Bible verses). There are direct references to the Old Testament (lexemes, phraseological units of  biblical origin) and indirect references to biblical motifs and themes.

Opis:
Debata wokół stosunków między chrześcijanami i żydami stała się w ostatnim czasie żywo dyskutowanym tematem w świecie kultury izraelskiej. W niniejszym artykule dokonano analizy odniesień do chrześcijaństwa i Jezusa we współczesnej literaturze izraelskiej. Poprzez analizę wybranych dzieł literackich opublikowanych przez najbardziej znanych pisarzy Izraelskich, usiłujemy opisać sposób, w jaki autorzy odnoszą się do elementów chrześcijańskich oraz zbadać ich osobiste nastawienie. Szczególna uwaga będzie zwrócona na ostatnie dzieło Amosa Oza pt. Judasz, opublikowane w 2014 r. Jest to historia życia młodego studenta przygotowującego pracę doktorską na temat: "Jak Żydzi widzą Jezusa?", którego uwaga jednak koncentruje się na postaci Judasza. Zgodnie ze swoim odkrywczym zamiarem badacz przeprowadza szczegółowe poszukiwania dotyczące odniesienia żydów do chrześcijan cytując źródła począwszy od starożytności aż do czasów dzisiejszych. Dzięki książce Oza można zbadać skomplikowane relacje między żydami a chrześcijanami, co stanowi dobry punkty wyjścia do dalszych badań.
The debate around the relations between Christians and Jews has recently become one of the discussed issues in the cultural Israeli world. This article examines the references to Christianity and to Jesus in the contemporary Israeli literature. Through the analysis of some literary works produced by the best-known Israeli writers, we will try to describe the way the authors deal with Christian elements and explore their personal considerations. In particular a great attention will be devoted to Amos Oz’s last novel Judas, published in 2014. The story is based on the life of a young student who is writing a doctoral dissertation on “How Jews see Jesus” but it ends up focusing on the figure of Judas. In revealing the intent of his research the protagonist presents a detailed investigation of the Jewish attitude towards Christians quoting sources from the ancient times until today. Through Oz’s book it is possible to explore the complicated relationship between Christians and Jews and offers new starting points for future debates.
Die Debatte um das Verhältnis zwischen Christen und Juden erhielt in der letzten Zeit in der israelitischen Kulturwelt eine besondere Lebendigkeit. Im folgenden Artikel wurde eine Analyse der Referenzen bezüglich des Christentums und Jesus in der heutigen israelitischen Literatur durchgeführt. Durch die Analyse der ausgewählten literarischen Werke, veröffentlicht durch die bekanntesten israelitischen Schriftsteller, versuchen wir die Art und Weise darzustellen, auf welche die Autoren den christlichen Elementen gegenüberstehen sowie ihre persönliche Einstellung zu untersuchen. Eine besondere Aufmerksamkeit wird auf das letzte, 2014 veröffentlichte Werk von Amos Oz ‒ "Judas" gelegt. Es ist die Geschichte eines jungen Studenten, der eine Doktorarbeit zum Thema: "Wie sehen die Juden Jesus?" vorbereitet. Seine Aufmerksamkeit wird jedoch schnell auf die Gestalt des Judas gelenkt. Gemäß seiner Forschungsabsicht führt er detaillierte Untersuchungen durch, bezüglich der Einstellung der Juden zu Christen, indem er zahlreiche Quellen heranführt von der Antike bis zur Gegenwart. Dank des Buches von Oz lassen sich die komplizierten Relationen zwischen Juden und Christen untersuchen, was ein guter Ausgangspunkt zu weiteren Nachforschungen darstellt.

In the paper some metatextual expressions (mówiąc językiem biblijnym and other ones) which refer to a given utterance and serve to say something about the utterance are observed. We examine a question in two bearings: syntactic and functional. Analized expressions co-occure with the main utterance and are used inside it. They signal a paraphrase. Puting the text into other words has a rhetorical implication.

Published in the form of an ephemeral print, probably in Lublin in 1812, it was discovered in the collection of Hieronim Lopacinski Provincial Public Library. The poem, written in the high rhetorical, panegyric and laudatory style is a document of primarily historical value which depicts an important moment in the political (the Second Sejm of the Duchy) and religious (Uniates) life of the era.

The discussed and reviewed book may be considered not merely a collection of word studies, but also a monograph dealing with lexical language contacts in the Polish-Eastern Slavic linguistic borderland. The authors examine more than 30 dialect words against the background of imposing Polish and East Slavic linguistic material, utilise the extensive subject literature, and apply modern dialectological research and language contact theory methods. Their main academic achievements include a precise delineation of the extent of East Slavic lexical borrowings in Polish dialect and a convincing verification of the criteria used to determine them. These efforts also allowed them to discover relict Polish-East Slavic references, previously considered borrowings from Ruthenian languages, in the examined lexical material. The publication, due to its advantages in material, theory and methodology, should serve as a model of research on dialectal linguistic borderlands for Slavic language studies. I believe that the book of Dorota Krystyna Rembiszewska and Janusz Siatkowski should deserves to be rated highly.

In a previous work (Opt. Appl. 39(2), 2009, pp. 415–428) we established the characteristics that a computer-based contrast sensitivity function (CSF) measurement system has to be used in the opthalmological clinic. In order to obtain a generalized use of CSF in clinics and as a screening tool, the necessity to incorporate a normality range by age was also suggested. It will also be important to establish how many reference curves are necessary, because in the last decades, different ranges have been presented in the literature. In the present work, our purpose was to show how to distribute the observers in terms of the statistical variations of CSF as a function of age in a normal population of healthy eyes. We then evaluated the utility of these curves in the detection of vision problems and, finally, the possibility of using them as a screening tool considering a reduced number of spatial frequencies. We used a computer-based CSF measurement system to present sinusoidal gratings whose values range from 1 to 24 cycles per degree. Three different groups (control, clinical and non-clinical) of subjects were considered. From the statistical analysis we obtained two ranges of normality, based on significant differences that appear around the age of 50. As we were interested in evaluating if this separation could increase the sensitivity of the test, we also performed a series of measurements in a clinical environment. As an interesting possibility of usage of a vision test is screening, we also measured people in conditions relatively different to those found in laboratories or clinics. We observed that this division into two ranges allows a better discrimination, especially for young adults. Measurements show an improvement of 22% in the detection of vision anomalies.

W niniejszym artykule zostały zaprezentowane interpretacje wybranych liryków modlitewnych Anny Kamieńskiej, których adresatem jest Istota Najwyższa – Bóg. Wiele z tych utworów ma wyraźnie osobisty charakter, tak że można je uznać za port parole samej poetki. Ale są też takie, w których podmiot prowadzi dialog z Bogiem niejako w imieniu innych ludzi. Na modlitewny charakter utworu wskazują elementy ramy (często jest to tytuł, np. Modlitwa, Modlitwa wieczorna, Prośba), apostrofy skierowane do Boga oraz odniesienia intertekstualne. Pod względem funkcjonalnym analizowane wiersze nawiązują przede wszystkim do trzech typów: modlitw-próśb (tych jest najwięcej), modlitw dziękczynnych i modlitw uwielbienia. Charakterystyczną cechą liryków modlitewnych Anny Kamieńskiej jest swobodne wykorzystywanie wzorców gatunkowych. Niektóre z tych utworów mają wyraźnie psalmiczny charakter (co bywa też zaznaczone w tytule). W innych lirykach wprowadzane są fragmenty różnych modlitw, które wiążą się z jakąś refleksją ogólną, czy opisem stanu wewnętrznego podmiotu. W modlitwach poetyckich Kamieńskiej wszystko to, co dla człowieka najważniejsze, podmiot liryczny przedstawia Bogu w postaci próśb, dziękczynienia lub uwielbienia. Z utworów wyłania się obraz człowieka jako osoby całkowicie zależnej od Boga i poszukującej z Nim bliskości oraz obraz Istoty Najwyższej – Boga jako niepojętego, nieodgadnionego i wszechmocnego, który władny jest spełnić prośby do Niego kierowane, i który kocha, przygarnia człowieka, i towarzyszy mu w cierpieniu.
The following article shows the interpretations of the selected prayer lyric poems written by Anna Kamieńska, and addressed to the Supreme Being – God. Many of these poems are highly personal so we can regard them as porte-parole of the author herself. Nevertheless there are also poems in which a subject is having a dialogue with God on behalf of other people so to speak. The fact that the poems show the features of prayers is indicated by the elements of frame (frequently it is a title e.g. Prayer, Evening Prayer, Supplication), the apostrophes directed to God, and the intertextual references. As far as function is concerned, the analyzed poems refer especially to three types: the prayers of request (the majority of poems), the thanksgiving prayers and the prayers of worship. What distinguishes the prayer lyric poems by Anna Kamieńska is using the patterns of genre casually. Some of the poems highly resemble psalms (which is sometimes indicated in the title.) What is introduced in other lyric poems are the fragments of varied prayers, and they are related to general reflection or to the description of the subject’s inner state. In the author’s poetical prayers the most important things for humans are introduced to God by the subject in the form of request, thanksgiving or worship. What emerges from the poems is the figure of a human, a being which is completely dependent from God and is seeking closeness to Him, and the figure of the Supreme Being, of the incomprehensible, impenetrable and omnipotent God, who is powerful enough to comply with all the requested addressed to Him, who loves people, takes them in and accompanies them in their suffering.

This paper presents a study of control strategies for 5-phase permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs) supplied by a five-leg voltage source inverter. Based on the vectorial decomposition of the multi-phase machine, fictitious machines, magnetically decoupled, allow a more adequate control. In this paper, our study focuses on the vector control of a multi-phase machine using a linear proportional-integral-derivative (PID) current regulator in the cases of sinusoidal and trapezoidal back-electromotive force (EMF) waveforms. In order to determine currents’ references, two strategies are adopted. First one aims to minimize copper losses under constant torque, while the second one targets to increase torque for a given copper losses. These techniques are tested under a variable speed control strategy based on a proportional-integral (PI) regulator and experimentally validated.

Opis:
NMR spectroscopy belongs to the most versatile techniques used in chemical laboratory for testing the presence of various compounds and elucidation of their structure. In case of more complex natural products chemical intuition and experience applied to analysis of experimental spectra is often supported by theoretical modeling of NMR spectra. However, theoretical predictions should be reliable and the errors associated with the approximations inherent to the existing methods minimized. In this respect, systematic errors, present in calculation of isotropic nuclear magnetic shieldings of the studied molecule need to be minimized. Conversion of nuclear shieldings of the studied molecule to the corresponding chemical shifts is performed by using a calculated reference molecule. This way systematic errors partly cancel and the remaining inaccuracies are efficiently decreased by using a properly selected theoretical reference molecule. In this work we demonstrate the impact of calculation method (selected density functional) and basis set on the predicted isotropic nuclear magnetic shieldings of free benzene and methane in vacuum and in popular solvents using a simple PCM approach. We propose the use of B3LYP, OPBE density functionals and recently designed xOPBE one in combination with Pople’s and Dunning’s basis sets, as well as with the modified STO-3G one. The new, STO(1M)-3G basis set was designed by Leszczyński and co-workers for efficient prediction of 13C NMR parameters in large organic molecules. Two molecules were selected to demonstrate the performance of GIAO B3LYP, OPBE and xOPBE for prediction of 1H and 13C NMR chemical shifts in vacuum and solution in comparison with available experimental data.

The subject of this article is a famous Soviet war-film, Fate of a Man (1959), directed by Sergey Bondarchuk and based on the short-story written by the Nobel Price winner, Mikhail Sholokhov. The proposed analysis aims at uncovering an essential but hidden context of Bondarchuk’s vision of 20th century traumatic human experiences: the Old Testament Book of Job. Focused on the subtle meanings being created between gestures, words, sounds and pictures, the author tries to show the presence as well as the function of biblical images in this ‘most Soviet of the Soviet movies’. It would be useless to seek such dimensions in the literary version of the same story. Owing to his audiovisual sensibility, Bondarchuk turns out to be a real master of ‘soft’ adapting of the religious tradition to the needs of the new ideology.

Opis:
The poetry of Jarosław Iwaszkiewicz includes various – and unique in the 20th century Polish literature – references to actual musical compositions. Johannes Brahms and Ser-gei Rachmaninoff are among the composers, whose pieces are most often present in this poetry. Close reading of chosen poems, which conduct intertextual and intersemiotic dialog with Brahms’ and Rachmaninoff’s compositions, allows one to distinguish vari-ous models of this dialog and its functions. It becomes possible – in the wider biograph-ical context – to ask about the meaning of German and Russian music to the writer and to the, often autobiographical, subjects of his poems. It leads also to the question of the relation between music and memory in Iwaszkiewicz’s poetry, based sometimes on a surprising counterpoint with respect to the sérénité motive. In the context of this rela-tion another motive seems to come to the fore, the motive of the lost world, to which, as the protagonist of Brzezina says, ‘I will never return, and which I have never truly expe-rienced’. 34

Opis:
Socially produced ideas can be tracked in individual texts or groups of texts, especially media texts commonly regarded as “[…] moments when the larger social and political structures within the culture are exposed to analysis” (Turner 1996: 88). This inextricable connection between media and culture in modern societies is reflected in the interdisciplinary field of research known as the study of media culture (cf. Kellner 1995), Medienkulturwissenschaft (cf. Schmidt 2003) or kulturoznawcze medioznawstwo (Gwóźdź 2008). Following this, the focus of attention of this study are examples of intra- and cross-cultural intertextuality in British, German and Polish Brexit-related newspaper articles.
Idee wytwarzane przez społeczeństwo można prześledzić w poszczególnych tekstach lub grupach tekstów, zwłaszcza w tekstach medialnych powszechnie uznawanych za „[...] momenty, w których większe struktury społeczne i polityczne w kulturze są poddane analizie” (Turner 1996: 88). Ten nierozerwalny związek między mediami i kulturą we współczesnych społeczeństwach znajduje odzwierciedlenie na interdyscyplinarnym polu badań, znanym jako studium kultury medialnej (por. Kellner 1995), Medienkulturwissenschaft (por. Schmidt 2003) czy kulturoznawcze medioznawstwo (Gwóźdź 2008). Następnie na pierwszy plan wysuwają się przykłady wewnątrzkulturowej i międzykulturowej intertekstualności w brytyjskich, niemieckich i polskich artykułach prasowych związanych z Brexitem.
