Opis:
The present study aims to investigate Rayleigh wave propagation in an isotropic sandy layer overlying an isotropic sandy semi-infinite medium, with interface considered to be imperfect (slide contact and dislocation like model). Expressions for displacement components are obtained using the variable separation method. The dispersion frequency equation for the Rayleigh wave propagating in sandy media is derived using suitable boundary conditions. Particular cases, such as when the interface is in smooth contact and when sandy media are replaced by elastic media, are also discussed. Using MATLAB software, the effects of the imperfectness parameter (slide contact and dislocation like model) and sandy parameter on the Rayleigh waves’ phase velocity are investigated and compared with the already obtained results of the dislocation like model. The present study may find useful applications in geophysics, civil engineering and soil mechanics.

The fully developed turbulent Boussinesq convection is known to form large-scale rolls, often termed the ‘large-scale circulation’ (LSC). It is an interesting question how such a large-scale flow is created, in particular in systems when the energy input occurs at small scales, when inverse cascade is required in order to transfer energy into the large-scale modes. Here, the small-scale driving is introduced through stochastic, randomly distributed heat source (say radiational). The mean flow equations are derived by means of simplified renormalization group technique, which can be termed a ‘weakly nonlinear renormalization procedure’ based on consideration of only the leading order terms at each step of the recursion procedure, as full renormalization in the studied anisotropic case turns out unattainable. The effective, anisotropic viscosity is obtained and it is shown that the inverse energy cascade occurs via an effective ‘motive force’ which takes the form of transient negative, vertical diffusion.

Opis:
This paper investigates the design of a modified matrix interleaving algorithm as a way to improve the performance of turbo codes. This proposed solution, known as the matrix-dithered golden (MDG) interleaver, utilizes the characteristics of a matrix interleaver combined with the golden section theory. The performance of the proposed interleaving method is compared with that of matrix (M), random (R), and dithered golden (DG) interleavers. The comparison is made in terms of bit error rate (BER), frame error rate (FER), computational complexity, and storage memory requirement. The turbo coded system is implemented and simulated using Matlab/Simulink software. Results of simulations performed both in the additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel and the Rayleigh fading channel demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed interleaver. The MDG interleaver is an effective replacement for random interleavers, as it improves BER and FER performance of the turbo code and is also capable of reducing the storage memory requirement without increasing the system’s complexity.

Opis:
Heat transfer in steady free convection from differentially heated cylinders enclosed in a rectangular duct filled with Bingham plastic fluids has been solved numerically for the ranges of the dimensionless groups as, Rayleigh number, 102 Ra 106; Prandtl number, 10 Pr 100 and, Bingham number, 0 Bn 50 for aspect ratios AR = 05, 0.6, 0.7, 0.8, 0.9 and 2. The streamlines, isotherm contours, yield surfaces, local and average Nusselt numbers were analysed and discussed. It is found that as the aspect ratio of the enclosure increases from 0.5 to 0.9, the average Nusselt number on the surface of the hot cylinder increases as a larger amount of fluid takes part in convection. Moreover, at sufficiently large Bingham numbers, yield stress forces dominate over buoyancy causing the flow to cease and thus the Nusselt number approaches its conduction limit. Finally, the Nusselt number approaches its conduction limit once the maximum Bingham number is reached.

In this paper a numerical study of natural convection of stationary laminar heat transfers in a horizontal ring between a heated square inner cylinder and a cold elliptical outer cylinder is presented. A Cu-water nanofluid flows through this annular space. Different values of the Rayleigh number and volume fraction of nanoparticles are studied. The system of equations governing the problem was solved numerically by the fluent calculation code based on the finite volume method and on the Boussinesq approximation. The interior and exterior surfaces are kept at constant temperature. The study is carried out for Rayleigh numbers ranging from 310 to 510. We have studied the effects of different Rayleigh numbers and volume fraction of nanoparticles on natural convection. The results are presented as isotherms, isocurrents, and local and mean Nusselt numbers. The aim of this study is to study the influence of the thermal Rayleigh number and volume fraction of nanoparticles on the heat transfer rate.

Efficient channel management is a challenge that next-generation wireless networks need to meet in order to satisfy increasing bandwidth demand and transmission rate requirements. Non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) is one of such efficient channel allocation methods used in 5G backhaul wireless mesh networks. In this paper, we propose a power demand-based channel allocation method for 5G backhaul wireless mesh networks by employing NOMA and considering traffic demands in small cells, thereby improving channel utility. In this scheme, we work with physical layer transmission. The foremost aim is to mutually optimize the uplink/downlink NOMA channel assignment in order to increase user fairness. The approach concerned may be divided into two steps. First, initial channel allocation is performed by employing the traveling salesman problem (TSP), due to its similarity to many-to-many double-side user-channel allocation. Second, the modified particle swarm optimization (PSO) method is applied for allocation updates, by introducing a decreasing coefficient which may have the form of a standard stochastic estimate algorithm. To enhance exploration capacity of modified the PSO, a random velocity is included to optimize the convergence rate and exploration behavior. The performance of the designed scheme is estimated through simulation, taking into account such parameters as through put, spectral efficiency, sum-rate, outage probability, signal to-interference plus noise ratio (SINR), and fairness. The proposed scheme maximizes network capacity and improves fairness between the individual stations. Experimental results show that the proposed technique performs better than existing solutions.

The onset of stationary convection in thermal instability of porous layer saturating a Jeffrey nanofluid is studied. The behaviour of nanofluid is described by a Jeffrey fluid model and the porous layer is assumed to follow Darcy’s law. Due to the presence of the Jeffrey parameter and nanoparticles, the momentum-balance equation of fluid is modified. The linear stability analysis and normal modes analysis method are utilised to derive the dispersion relation for the Rayleigh number in terms of various parameters for free-free boundaries. The effects of the Jeffrey parameter, Lewis number, modified diffusivity ratio, nanoparticles’ Rayleigh number and medium porosity on the physical system are discussed analytically and graphically.

Based on a record sample from the Rayleigh model, we consider the problem of estimating the scale and location parameters of the model and predicting the future unobserved record data. Maximum likelihood and Bayesian approaches under different loss functions are used to estimate the model's parameters. The Gibbs sampler and Metropolis-Hastings methods are used within the Bayesian procedures to draw the Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) samples, used in turn to compute the Bayes estimator and the point predictors of the future record data. Monte Carlo simulations are performed to study the behaviour and to compare methods obtained in this way. Two examples of real data have been analyzed to illustrate the procedures developed here.

A multi-wavelength bidirectional Brillouin-erbium fiber ring laser with switchable Brillouin frequency spacing (BFS) is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. In the presented Brillouin-erbium ring laser, including an optical amplifier and a highly nonlinear fiber, and without any optical isolator, due to Rayleigh scattering, stimulated Brillouin scattering, and cascaded four-wave mixing initiated successively by the Brillouin pump (BP) light, the odd- and even-order Stokes lines are generated and circulate in the opposite direction in the ring cavity. The BP light and Stokes-induced Rayleigh backscattering light also simultaneously circulate in the ring cavity. Only by adjusting BP power, the gain competition between Brillouin based Stokes and cavity modes’ oscillation can be controlled, the laser output can be conveniently switched between single BFS and odd- or even-order double BFS. In addition, under the certain BP power conditions, the proposed multi-wavelength Brillouin-erbium fiber laser also can realize switchable odd- or even-order Stokes generation and Stokes generation with single BFS, with an increasing wavelength number in turn, only by simply adjusting pump power of the erbium-doped fiber amplifier. Stability and wavelength tunability of the proposed multi-wavelength bidirectional Brillouin-erbium fiber ring laser are also investigated, respectively.

Opis:
The article deals with a continual segment of an inter-resonance vibration machine. In the form of a solid with distributed parameters this segment combines two defining parameters, namely: the inertial parameter of reactive: masses and appropriate rigidity of elastic coupling. These operation factors are revealed only in dynamic processes and are clearly not included in the parameters of the continual segment. Analytical dependences are developed for modeling of defining parameters of an inter-resonance system, namely: reactive mass and appropriate rigidity of elastic: coupling. Parameters of the reference point of the continual segment passing through its center of velocity are studied. The inertial parameter of the reactive mass and the rigidity of elastic coupling were modeled by the Rayleigh-Ritz method. The reliability of the results of theoretical research was confirmed experimentally and the parameters of the partial frequency of the continual segment were determined.

This paper deals with numerical investigation of a natural convective flow in a horizontal annular space between a heated square inner cylinder and a cold elliptical outer cylinder with a Newtonian fluid. Uniform temperatures are imposed along walls of the enclosure. The governing equations of the problem were solved numerically by the commercial code Fluent, based on the finite volume method and the Boussinesq approximation. The effects of Geometry Ratio GR and Rayleigh numbers on fluid flow and heat transfer performance are investigated. The Rayleigh number is varied from 103 to 106. Throughout the study the relevant results are presented in terms of isotherms, and streamlines. From the results, we found that the increase in the Geometry Ratio B leads to an increase of the heat transfer coefficient. The heat transfer rate in the annulus is translated in terms of the average Nusselt numbers along the enclosure's sides. Tecplot 7 program was used to plot the curves which cleared these relations and isotherms and streamlines which illustrate the behavior of air through the channel and its variation with other parameters. The results for the streamlines, isotherms, local and average Nusselt numbers average Nusselt numbers are compared with previous works and show good agreement.

In this paper, a wireless three-hop relay communication system operating in a Rayleigh multipath fading environment is analyzed. The output signal from such a system is a product of signal envelopes from all sections, meaning that it is actually a product of three random variables (RVs) with Rayleigh distribution. We considered here the first-order characteristics: probability density function (PDF), cumulative distribution function and outage probability (OP). Then, the moments and amount of fading (AoF) were derived in the closed forms. The second order characteristics we present include the following: level crossing rate (LCR) and average fade duration (AFD). A few graphs are given to show the impact of the specific parameters of the wireless three-hop relay system.
