Opis:
In this article, plasmonic characteristics of SiO2-Ag and hollow core Ag nanoparticles placed on dielectric substrates are investigated and tuned to the NIR wavelength spectrum for biological applications. It is shown that by placing the core-shell Ag nanoparticles on a dielectric substrate and exciting the normal plasmon mode of the nanoparticle, it is possible to obtain strong plasmon resonances at wavelengths as long as λ = 700 nm which exhibits a red shift of more than 300 nm compared to the resonance of freestanding pure Ag nanoparticles at which normal plasmon resonance wavelength shows a sensitivity of approximately 100 nm/RIU in respect to the substrate refractive index change. “SiO2-Ag and hollow core Ag nanoparticles on silicon” are optimized to exhibit a strong normal plasmon resonance at λ = 633 nm while preserving the plasmonic field enhancement intact. Finally, a three dimensional substrate for surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) is designed and numerically investigated. The substrate is composed of Si nanorod array decorated with the designed nanoparticles which exhibits superior characteristics such as a uniform and gapless field enhancement and an electromagnetic enhancement factor of more than 3 × 106, an order of magnitude higher than the enhancement factor for a similar structure decorated with Au nanoparticles.

Opis:
In this paper we present results of an investigation into the power penalty introduced by Stimulated Raman Scattering (SRS) in WDM systems with concentration on application of dispersion-shifted single-mode optical fibres (G.653) and unequal channel allocation schemes. System parameters based on ITU-T Recommendation G.692 and analytic formulas were used in calculations. It is shown that SRS does present a practical limitation to the multichannel systems. We also indicate limitations of the G.692 Recommendation and we point at directions of study in the area of nonlinear phenomena and multichannel systems.

The numerical modelling of the Raman polarization attraction and amplification process in the telecommunication band around 1550 nm is presented. The possibility of achieving both polarization pulling and amplification in Polarization Division Multiplexing transmission system by exploiting the polarization dependence of stimulated Raman scattering is investigated. The acceptable crosstalk for the Polarization Division Multiplexing transmission systems was achieved for some attraction/amplification block parameters.

Opis:
A laboratory system for measuring the Raman scattering light in optical fiber is presented. The system is equipped with the developed driver for 5 mW/1550 nm laser diode, optical circulator, WDM filters to separate Rayleigh and Raman scattered light and InGaAs cooled photodiode to detect the weak scattered radiation. Instead of using expensive network analyzer we propose to use Software-Defined Radio, which ensures the necessary sensitivity and selectivity of detected signals. The preliminary results are presented for about 3 km – length single mode silica optical fiber.

Opis:
Distributed temperature sensing (DTS) based on Raman scattering in optical fibers gains more importance in several applications, due to its accuracy, immunity to electromagnetic interference and corrosion, durability, low cost and availability. DTS systems are configured differently depending on the environment of application, and uses Optical Time Domain Reflectometry (OTDR) or Optical Frequency Domain Reflectometry (OFDR) for data analyzes. This study features a theoretical background and an introduction to DTS systems’ configurations and applications.

Opis:
Colloidal solutions of silver (AgNPs), gold (AuNPs), and platinum nanoparticles (PtNps) obtained under controlled conditions in an aqueous media by chemical methods were used as effective biosensors of biological compounds such as bombesins (BN). The BN adsorption at the metal/aqueous interface was investigated by surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS). Briefly, the spectral pattern of BN in the silver, gold, and platinum sols is strongly influenced by the indole ring vibrations of L-tryptophan at position 8 of the amino acid sequence (Trp8). In addition, L-methionine (Met) at the C-terminus determines the BN adsorption, mainly onto the AuNPs and AgNPs surfaces.

Opis:
The diamond-like carbon materials have unique mechanical, optical, electrical and chemical properties. The material is commonly applied in automotive industry, medicine and in other everyday life products. However, the diamond-like carbons are not used in micro- and optoelectronics on a wider scale due to technological problems. The application of the diamond-like carbon films in electronic structure is limited because the standard methods do not ensure that the quality and properties of the deposited film will be satisfactory for a specific application. On the other hand, more sophisticated methods that allow manufacturing the diamond-like carbon film with adequate properties, such as microwave assisted chemical vapour deposition, require heating of the substrate to high temperature (above 1000°C). The solution to the problem is the radio frequency inductively coupled plasma enhanced chemical vapour deposition method that allows deposition of the diamond-like carbon films with satisfactory properties and the process can be carried out at room temperature. In the paper, basic information and issues concerning the diamond-like carbon films manufacturing technology by radio frequency inductively coupled plasma enhanced chemical vapour deposition method will be explained. The diamond-like carbon films were investigated by the Raman scattering spectroscopy and the spectroscopic ellipsometry.

Opis:
A 100 km long dense wavelength division multiplexed optical network design with a capacity of 1.28 Tbps is proposed in this paper. The novelty of this work is the use of a dispersion compensating fibre as a Raman amplifier in the S-band for a high-capacity dense wavelength division multiplexing network. The transmission is accomplished auspiciously in the wavelength range from 196 THz to 202. 35THz. The coupling of a Raman amplifier made the realisation of the S-band possible in the network, as the erbium-doped fibre amplifier is competent for amplification in C- and L-bands only. Further, a pump coupler is used for multiple pumping to enlarge the gain spectrum for a high-capacity optical network. The performance analysis of the network is carried out systematically in terms of bit error rate (BER), eye diagram, Q-factor, and optical signal to noise ratio (OSNR). The results demonstrate that the proposed set-up shows adequately low BER, sufficient Q-factor values, wide eye-opening, and commendable OSNR for all receiving channels.

Opis:
Concept of fibre spontaneous Raman scattering utilizing for distributed temperature sensing is presented. Chosen approach uses both backscattered Stokes as reference and anti-Stokes as detection signals. The analysis is carried out towards Stokes and anti-Stokes bands temperature dependence. In order to achieve best measurement accuracy influence of maximum modulation frequency on spatial resolution is verified. Analysed technique allows to calculate temperature along the fibre with 5 m space precision and 1°C temperature precision. Simulations involve 200 m standard single mode fibre in temperatures in range < -5°C , 60°C> with 2x1100 m reference fibre maintained in 22°C.
Koncepcja wykorzystania rozpraszania Ramana we włóknie światłowodowym do rozproszonego pomiaru temperatury została przedstawiona.
