    The main subject of article is sociopolitical situation of Romanovs after the Bolshevik Revolution. The first part is a description of final years of the rule and relations inside the dynasty. The second reverence of the text focus on the problems of White Emigrations and the difficult economic situations of members which survived revolution. The next part tells about organization of the Union of Mladorossi and attempts politicizing the situation of the Romanovs in Europe. The ending is historical reflection. Its aim is to present the political position of the Romanovs in the 21st century and real chances return to Russia.

    The subject of this article is the series of watercolour drawings made by Giacomo Quarenghi, an Italian architect working in Russia at the turn of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. The series consists of eight views showing the monuments in Moscow and its environs, built at the end of the fifteenth century and the next two centuries. The drawings were probably made in direct connection with the coronation of Paul I, who was crowned as tsar of Russia in 1797. At present, five drawings of this series are in the Hermitage, Saint Petersburg, while the remaining three are housed in the Aleksey Schusev State Museum of Architecture, Moscow. Quarenghi's drawings of the monuments built before the reign of Peter the Great show his knowledge of Italian art. He was inspired by Italian architectural drawing as well as Venetian veduta. His drawings indicate that he took his inspiration from the works of other artists, such as Giovanni Battista Piranesi, Antonio Canaletto and Bernardo Bellotto. It is also possible that Quarenghi knew watercolours made by the Polish painter Zygmunt Vogel, the court artist of King Stanislaw August Poniatowski. The article also makes an attempt to answer the question: why Quarenghi, a follower of classicism in architecture, decided to paint the picturesque buildings of the Ruthenian Middle Ages. It was undoubtedly connected with tsar's liking. Paul I idealized the old Russia and tried to refer to its autocracy before the reign of Peter the Great. At the end of the eighteenth century Russia witnessed changes in historical awareness and reception of art created in past centuries. Quarenghi's drawings are one of the earliest evidences of this process.

    Niniejszy artykuł dotyczy historii powstania i przemian wizualnych oraz znaczeniowych jednego z ważniejszych częstochowskich budynków. Kamienica „Dom Księcia” zbudowana przez Wielkiego Księcia Michała Romanowa skupia trudne dzieje miasta poddawanego rusyfikacji, a potem polonizacji. Budynek jest osadzony głęboko w przestrzeni historycznej i symbolicznej całej Częstochowy. Był kłopotliwą pamiątką po rodzinie Romanowów, a w okresie międzywojennym stanowił przedmiot procesów sądowych miasta i wdowy po Michale Romanowie. W tym czasie obiekt zyskał nową szatę wizualną i stał się architektonicznym pomnikiem Marszałka Józefa Piłsudskiego. Obecnie budynek jest zaniedbany i opuszczony. Do dziś nie opublikowano pracy monograficznej ukazującej jego dzieje w szerokim kontekście historycznym, politycznym i społecznym. Artykuł ma na celu wypełnienie tej luki badawczej oraz określenie dokładnego czasu jego przebudowy.
    This article concerns the history of the construction of one of the most important buildings in Częstochowa and the changes it has undergone in its its appearance and meaning. The Prince’s House, built by Grand Duke Michael Romanov, reflects the difficult history of the city’s Russification and re-Polonization. The building is deeply set in the historical and symbolic space of whole Częstochowa. It was an embarrassing reminder of the Romanow family, and in the interwar period it was the subject of legal disputes between the city and Michael Romanov’s widow. At that time, the building gained a new appearance and became an architectural monument to Marshal Józef Piłsudski. Today, the house is neglected and abandoned, and so far no monographic work discussing its history in a broad historical, political and social context has been published. The article aims to fill this research gap and determine the exact time of the building’s reconstruction.
