This essay focuses on a passage from the Letter to the Romans, better on a famous expression: λογικὴ λατρεία (Rom 12,1). After having studied its context in some depth, it shows how Paul operates in a dual direction: the apostle removes from the expression any kind of semantic link bound up with the cult; he also attributes to it a profane semantic. Paul does not intend to oppose the two cults, Jewish and Christian. His words imply that, like the ancient Israel before them, the Christian believers should also be distinguished for their cult. Christian worship is conceived in a different way. It is far from being a spiritualisation of the cult. Such a reduction is excluded by the object of the sacrifice, «your bodies». Paul operates in two directions: on the one hand, he avoids the trap of supersessionism with regard to the Jewish cult; on the other hand, he excludes a spiritualisation (or interiorisation) of Greek religious practices. Paul’s language is distinct both from the great tradition of Israel and from the Hellenistic world.

The Image of Slovenes and Gottschee Germans in the Historical Novel Rebellion in der GottscheeThis article surveys the literature of the Gottschee Germans, the formal inhabitants of the Gottschee region in Slovenia. It begins by summarising the history and literary works of the Gottschee Germans, and secondly it deals with the historic novel Rebellion in der Gottschee by Karl Rom. The novel was published in 1938 in German. It focuses on the great peasant revolt in Slovenia (Carniola) that took place in 1515. The revolt was organised by the Gottschee Germans against the violent landlord and was soon repressed after that. Based on image studies (imagology) the article analyses the picture presented of the Slovenes and Gottschee Germans and discusses how Slavs (Slovenes) and Germans (Gottschee Germans) are represented in the novel. Wizerunek Słoweńców i Niemców z Kočevja w powieści historycznej Rebellion in der GottscheeArtykuł analizuje literaturę Niemców z Kočevja, będących niegdyś mieszkańcami tego słoweńskiego regionu. W pierwszej części została przedstawiona historia oraz twórczość literacka koczewskich Niemców, następnie uwaga skupia się na powieści historycznej Rebellion in der Gottschee (Bunt w Kočevju) autorstwa Karla Roma. Powieść ukazała się w 1938 roku w języku niemieckim, opisuje zaś wielki chłopski bunt w Słowenii (w ówczesnej Krainie) z roku 1515. Mieszkańcy Kočevja wzniecili bunt przeciwko okrutnemu właścicielowi ziemskiemu, jednak został on bardzo szybko stłumiony. Wpisując się w perspektywę imagologiczną, artykuł bada wizerunek Słowian (Słoweńców) i Germanów (Niemców z Kočevja) przedstawionych w powieści. Podoba Slovencev in kočevskih Nemcev v zgodovinskem romanu Rebellion in der GottscheePrispevek preučuje književnost kočevskih Nemcev, nekdanjih prebivalcev slovenske pokrajine Kočevske. V prvem delu kratko predstavi zgodovino in književno ustvarjalnost kočevskih Nemcev, nato pa se osredotoča na zgodovinski roman Rebellion in der Gottschee (Upor na Kočevskem), ki ga je napisal Karl Rom. Roman je izšel leta 1938 v nemškem jeziku in opisuje veliki kmečki upor v Sloveniji (v tedanji Kranjski), ki se je odvijal leta 1515. Upor so organizirali prebivalci Kočevske proti nasilnemu zemljiškemu gospodu in je bil kmalu tudi zatrt. Na podlagi imagologije članek analizira podobo Slovanov (Slovencev) in Germanov (kočevskih Nemcev) v romanu.

In the second part of the article the author draws comparison between the Stoic and Pauline notion of pneuma. First, the stoic and cognate medical views on the Spirit/spirit are presented. According to them, pneuma functions as the principle of life, cognitive entity, element binding the cosmos, responsible for unifying various bodies, and passing the image of the father on his progeny. The stoic categories and phenomenology of pneuma are then applied to Rom 8. A notorious difficulty in distinguishing between the divine and human spirit, the cognitive, life-giving and unifying faculties of pneuma bespeak the similarity between the stoic and Pauline thought. Yet, the relationship seems to be rather formal and limited to the use of the same language. Paul goes well beyond both the stoic and Jewish concepts of pneuma, presenting the Spirit as introducing the believers into the community with God, enabling them to imitate Jesus, granting the life of resurrection, interceding for Christians and making them brothers and sisters. Two more functions of the Spirit, his abiding in the believers and his ability to imprint in them God’s image, open more promising venues for comparison between Paul and the stoics. The stoic idea of krasis and popular philosophical and medical views on procreation may help to understand how Paul and his audience imagined the Sprit dwelling in Christians and making them conform to the image of Christ. The article ends with a reflection on the applicability of the stoic notions of pneuma  to Rom 8.

In the article the author poses a question on the nature and character of the Spirit’s acting and indwelling in believers in Romans 8. To what extent the Pauline concept of Spirit can be associated with the stoic idea of pneuma which also dwells within humans, grants them knowledge and life? In order to answer this question, in the first part of the paper the author analyzes the semantic fields of Rom 5 – 8 and their convergence in Rom 8, with a special focus on the vocabulary of new life mediated by the Spirit. Subsequently, the rhetorical stasis of Rom 8 is elucidated. At the end, the author presents a concise survey of the research on the interaction between the Pauline and the stoic idea of pneuma. The critical evaluation of the various scholarly works on the issue and the rhetorical dispositio of Rom 8 constitute a point of departure for a closer analysis of similarities and differences between Paul and the stoic pneumatology, which will be carried on in the part two of the article.

The scientific information computer system at the library of the Technical University of Gdansk is presented. The system includes: computer system for catalogue information and publication supply, APIS-ZB; information system on scientific research at the Technical University of Gdansk, APIS-NB; and network system for provision of databases on CD-ROM InfoWare, CD/HD. The basic system functions, as well as the prospects of their development are presented. The problem of using the Internet as an information source and supply tool is discussed. Common tasks of libraries at technical universities in Poland which would facilitate scientific information transfer between them, are stressed.

The article presents the basic principles of real options method (ROM) for the assessment of projects realized by enterprises. Using as an example a loan contracted for three years, the author shows and explains why the ROM is much more effective and better analyzes tool, than the discounted cash flow method (DCF). He also stresses, that from the methodological point of view ROM is not more difficult in application than the DCF, moreover adds flexibility in the decision-making process, and gives for the management staff more freedom in a future, during the undertaking development.

Jednym z istotnych problemów w relacjach rzymskokatolicko-prawosławnych jest różnica w interpretacji aktualnych form sprawowania prymacjalnej roli w Kościele przez biskupa Rzymu. Współczesne badania nad istotą i sposobem wypełniania posługi na rzecz powszechnej jedności Kościoła nabierają nowego dynamizmu po publikacji „ekumenicznej encykliki” Jana Pawła II Ut unum sint. Papież zwrócił się do pasterzy i teologów z prośbą o nawiązanie z nim „braterskiego i cierpliwego dialogu” (zob. US 95-96), aby wspólnie poszukiwać „takich form sprawowania owego urzędu, w którym możliwe będzie realizowanie przez jednych i drugich posługi miłości” (US 95). W oparciu o wyniki badań historycznych, współcześni teologowie prawosławni wyrażają przekonanie, że idea prymatu rzymskiego była zawsze obecna w teologicznej świadomości chrześcijańskiego Wschodu. Kościoły wschodnie nie negują prymatu czci przysługującego papieżowi jako biskupowi Rzymu oraz jako pierwszemu biskupowi całego Kościoła. Uznając prymat stolicy rzymskiej za bezsporny fakt historyczny, teologowie prawosławni widzą zasadniczy problem w określeniu jego natury. Nie akceptują prymatu w sensie jurysdykcyjnym.
One of the essential problems in the relationship between Catholic-Orthodox churches is the difference in the interpretation of the current forms of the primacy in the Church of the Bishop of Rome. Contemporary studies on the essence and on the method of accomplishing this service on behalf of the universal Church’s unity assumed new dynamics after the publication of the ecumenical encyclical letter of John Paul II – Ut unum sint. The Pope addressed and requested the pastors and theologians to establish with him a “patient and fraternal dialogue” (see US 95-96), for both parties to strive to achieve “the forms in which this ministry may accomplish a service of love recognized by all concerned” (US 95). The contemporary Orthodox theologians, based on the results of historical studies, are convinced that the idea of the Roman primacy has been always presented in the theological awareness of the Christian East. The Eastern Churches do not negate the primacy of the Pope, as the Bishop of Rome, and as the first bishop of the whole Church. Recognizing the primacy of the Holy See as an incontestable historical fact, the Orthodox theologians see the crucial problem in the determination of its nature. They do not accept the primacy in the juridical sense.
Eines der wesentlichen Probleme im Verhältnis zwischen römischen Katholiken und Orthodoxen ist der Unterschied in der Interpretation der gegenwärtigen Formen der Ausübung von der primatialen Rolle des Bischofs von Rom. Die gegenwärtigen Untersuchungen über das Wesens und die Art und Weise der Ausübung des Dienstes zugunsten der allgemeinen Einheit der Kirche haben nach der Erscheinung der "ökumenischen Enzyklika" von Johannes Paul II. Ut unum sint einen neuen Auftrieb erhalten. Der Papst hat sich an die Hirten und Theologen mit der Bitte gewandt, mit ihm in einen "brüderlichen und geduldigen Dialog" einzutreten, um gemeinsam "solche Formen der Ausübung dieses Amtes zu suchen, in denen die Realisierung des Dienstes der Liebe durch die Einen und die Anderen möglich wird" (US 95). Anhand der historischen Untersuchungen, äußern heutige orthodoxe Theologen die Überzeugung, dass die Idee des römischen Primats schon immer im Bewusstsein des christlichen Ostens gegenwärtig war. Die östlichen Kirchen stellen das Ehrenprimat, das dem Papst als dem Bischof von Rom und dem ersten Bischof der gesamten Kirche gezollt wird, nicht in Frage. Indem sie den Primat des römischen Stuhls anerkennen, sehen sie das größte Problem in der Definition seiner Natur. Der Iurisdiktionsprimat wird von Ihnen nicht akzeptiert.

Kryzys gospodarczy implikuje wiele procesów zachodzących w gospodarce poprzez spowolnienie rozwoju gospodarczego, społecznego i kulturowego oraz ograniczenie postaw przedsiębiorczych. Efektem kryzysu jest także wpływ na szybki spadek aktywności ekonomicznej, przejawiającej się w zakłóceniu płynności finansowej, zmniejszeniu produkcji, ograniczeniu zatrudnienia oraz działalności inwestycyjnej, zmniejszeniu zasobów finansowych przedsiębiorstw i ludności. Sytuacja kryzysowa wpływa na zmiany tempa rozwoju struktur regionalnych i krajowych. Na tym tle w niniejszych rozważaniach podjęto próbę wskazania wybranych problemów społeczno-ekonomicznych i skutków funkcjonowania miasta Rzeszowa i jego otoczenia w obliczu kryzysu. Celem pracy jest ukazanie zmian społeczno-demograficznych i gospodarczych wpływających na procesy suburbanizacyjne aglomeracji rzeszowskiej oraz Rzeszowskiego Obszaru Metropolitalnego (ROM). Zakres czasowy opracowania obejmuje głównie lata 1995-2012, a więc m.in. okres kryzysu ekonomicznego ostatnich lat. Przedmiotem analizy jest zarówno problematyka demograficzna (dynamika zaludnienia, ruch naturalny, saldo migracji) jak i wpływ kryzysu na suburbanizację aglomeracji rzeszowskiej.
The economic crisis implies a lot of the processes taking place in the economy by slowing economic, social, cultural and limits entrepreneurial attitudes. The crisis also has an impact on the rapid decline in the economic activity, manifests in disruption in financial fluidity, the reduction of production, employment and investment activities,tas well as the financial resources of companies and people. The crisis affects the change in the rate of development of regional and national structures. The author tries to indicate the selected socio-economic problems and the effects of the functioning of Rzeszow city and its surroundings in the face of crisis. The aim is to show in the socio - economic and demographic the changes affecting the suburbanization processes in the agglomeration of Rzeszow and Rzeszow Metropolitan Area. The time horizon of the study includes the period of 1995-2012 - the period of the economic crisis of recent years. The subject of the analysis is the issue of population growth (population dynamics, natural motion, net migration) and the impact of the crisis on the suburbanisation of the agglomeration of Rzeszów.

In the present article, the author indicates the theme of God’s justice as a unifying thread of the Letter to the Romans. The analysis of the issue starts from a general overview of the idea of justice in the Greco-Roman culture, in the Old and New Testament. Next, the author presents the overall structure of the Letter to the Romans supplied with the distribution of the vocabulary of justice. The core of the article is the analysis of the differentiated argumentative parts of the letter (Rom 1–4; 5–8; 9–11) with the special attention paid to the issue of God’s justice. Paul presents it as the power of God that saves the humanity from the incoming judgment (Rom 1–4), as the giver of new life in the Spirit and freedom for the believers (Rom 5–8), and as the creative will of God that will not cease until it brings everybody, including Israel, to salvation (Rom 9–11). At every stage of his argument, the apostle stresses that throughout the whole history of mankind God’s justice remained faithful to its original plan of salvation revealed and disclosed in the Old Testament.

Interpolacja jest jednym z kluczowych elementów wykorzystywanych w animacji komputerowej. Dobór odpowiedniej metody interpolacji wpływa na ruch animowanej postaci. Artykuł przedstawia wybrane metody interpolacji i porównuje je ze względu na czas wykonywania obliczeń oraz dokładność uzyskanych wyników. Algorytmy, które przeanalizowano to: metoda Catmula-Roma, zmodyfikowana metoda Catmulla-Roma oraz krzywe przejściowe między parabolami (blended parabolas). Eksperymenty numeryczne przeprowadzono za pomocą programu komputerowego napisanego w języku C++.
Interpolation is one of key aspects of computer animation. The selection of the proper interpolation method influences motion of animated objects. The paper presents selected interpolation methods and compares them with respect to computation time and accuracy. The three algorithms that were analyzed are: Catmull-Rom Spline, modified Catmull-Rom Spline and Blended Parabolas method. Numerical experiments were performed using a program written in C++ language.
