Opis:
The changes in local temperature occurring during spontaneous imbibition of columnar samples of dry natural zeolite with water were studied. The temperature pulses of 20-250 s duration and 3-40°C amplitude were registered and correlated with the wetting front motion observed with neutron radiography. The amplitude of the pulses was shown to increase with increasing ambient temperature. The broadening of the temperature pulse with increasing distance from the water supplied end of the samples was observed. The amplitude and the pulse width were found to depend substantially on the drying temperature of the material. The observed effect was attributed to the heat of immersion released in the sample at the moving wetting front.

Opis:
We study the compaction dynamics of frictional hard disks in two dimensions, subjected to vertical shaking, by numerical simulation. Shaking is modeled by a series of vertical expansions of the disk packing, followed by dynamical recompression of the assembly under the action of gravity. The second phase of the shake cycle is based on an efficient event-driven molecular-dynamics algorithm. We analyze the compaction dynamics for various values of the friction coefficient and the coefficient of normal restitution. The granular organization at local level was studied by analyzing the shape factor ξ of the local volumes, associated with a natural way of subdividing the volume into local parts - the Voronoi partition. It gives a clear physical picture of the competition between less and more ordered domains of particles during the compaction. We calculate the distribution of the shape-factor for packings at different stages of the compaction process. We have also investigated a two-dimensional granular medium experimentally. We prepared the granular packings of metallic cylinders of diameters 4, 5, and 6 mm. The distributions of the shape-factor obtained numerically for various tapping intensities are consistent with our experimental results.

We have investigated magnetic properties of three different samples composed of magnetic Fe or Co core and protective Au or Pt metallic shell, namely Fe@Au, Co@Au and Fe@Pt samples, with sizes of about 10 nm, 8 nm and 5 nm respectively. We have measured and analysed the experimental data of real and imaginary component of ac susceptibility through theoretical laws for non-interacting and interacting particles and we have estimated the strength of their magnetic interactions. Our analyses showed the increase of inter-particle interactions with decreasing particles size.

Nanocomposite consisting of Gd₂O₃ nanoparticles embedded in periodical porous silica matrix was investigated with respect to its magnetocaloric properties. Series of field (up to 5 T) dependence of magnetization data were recorded in temperature range 2-52 K. The data were subsequently processed employing Maxwell relation in order to calculate magnetic entropy change (Δ S_M) of the system. Examined nanocomposite exhibited reasonably high value of Δ S_M ≈ 29 J/(kg K) at maximal field change 5 T at the temperature of 2 K which suggests that this material could be feasible for cryomagnetic refrigeration applications.

Opis:
Lanthanide oxide nanoparticles were encapsulated inside of pores of highly ordered periodic silica of SBA15 type with hexagonal symmetry. The magnetic properties of such nanoperticles were investigated. The structural characterization using the SAXS, XANES, XRD, and $N_{2}$ adsorption measurements showed the presence of lanthanide oxides of $Ln_{2}O_{3}$ type (Ln=La, Pr, Nd, Gd, Eu), with the size of about 5 nm, incorporated in nanoporous channel system. Their magnetic properties, studied by SQUID apparatus, showed the weak antiferromagnetic ordering at 2 K in the nanocomposites $Gd_{2}O_{3}$@SBA15, $Pr_{2}O_{3}$@SBA15 and $Nd_{2}O_{3}$@SBA15. This behaviour of the nanoparticles is caused by blocking process of magnetic moments, which at 300 K exhibit the superparamagnetism, evidenced from ZFC/FC magnetization.

Opis:
Consider an initial state lying on a primary resonance island. The state may tunnel into the chaotic sea surrounding it and further escape to infinity via chaotic diffusion. Properties of transport in such a situation are studied on an exemplary system - the hydrogen atom driven by microwaves. We show that the combination of tunneling followed by chaotic diffusion leads to peculiar large scale fluctuations of the AC Stark shift and ionization rates. An appropriate random matrix model describes accurately these statistical properties.

Opis:
Natural resources have been decreasing with the large expansion of the world's population. In order to supply raw material for production, new recycling approaches should be developed for waste materials. Worn shoes is one of the most common waste products that can be recycled for this purpose. According to the record, shoes are very complex products, as they can be produced from forty different materials, like leather, rubber, polymers etc. Especially the bottom layers of the shoes are made from sound absorbing materials like polyurethane, thermoplastic rubber and PVC. Because today's technology is not able to separate these materials from each other during recycling, they should be used in a homogenised state. Thus these parts were shredded into small granules and mixed. PU binder and hot press were used to obtain samples for tests. In this paper sound absorption, sound isolation, vibration isolation and thermal insulation properties of the tread mixture are investigated. In addition to that, the mechanical properties of the material were also investigated by measuring the compression strength of the material.

Angular distributions of very high energy photoelectrons from Xe and Kr, excited by a 50 ps, 1054 um laser, are presented. In Xe strong, narrow structures 45° off the polarization axis appear on above-threshold ionization peaks within a limited energy range centered around 9U$\text{}_{P}$, where U$\text{}_{P}$ is the intensity-dependent ponderomotive energy. Under the same conditions the effect is much weaker in krypton. These structures are discussed using a very simple classical model as well as sophisticated single active electron calculations and the Keldysh-Faisal-Reiss theory. We conclude these structures are the result of single-electron dynamics involving rescattering of a tunneling component of the continuum wave function.

Photoionization of Rydberg atoms is considered in the quasi-classical (WKB) approach. The total nonlinear strong-field ionization rate is found and investigated. The time of ionization, as a function of a growing field-strength amplitude, is shown to approach asymptotically the Kepler period t$\text{}_{k}$. Interference stabilization of Rydberg atoms is confirmed to exist in the case of short pulses (shorter than the Kepler period).

Opis:
W badanych rodach i 3 odmianach wzorcowych sprawdzono obecność markerów molekularnych sprzężonych z genem Rm (GP 283 i GP 250).
The aim of the study was to identify the response of potato clones (4x) to inoculation with two different strains of the Potato virus M (PVM). The resistance of the evaluated 15 tetraploid clones is derived from S. megistacrolobum and is connected to necrotic reaction governed by the gene Rm. For evaluation of resistance to the PVM, the mechanical inoculation and inoculation by grafting were applied. For the inoculation of potato plants, two strains of PVM were used, namely strain from potato cv. Uran (M-U) and strain from cv. Giewont (M55a). The tested clones and standard cultivars were checked for the presence of molecular markers GP 283 and GP 250, which are linked with the resistance gene Rm. The reaction of plants after inoculation with PVM was variable and depended on the plant genotype and the strain of the virus. The examined clones were divided into groups depending on the observed response to infection with PVM. The diversity and variability of this response indicate very complex conditioning of resistance to PVM and the "hypothetical” factor associated with gene Rm should be still sought.

Opis:
The paper complements our earlier NMR investigation of molecular dynamics of tert-butyl chloride restricted by geometries of the type MCM-41 and CPG by the new sizes of CPG and by differential scanning calorimetry method. We report proton and deuteron NMR lineshapes and the spin-lattice relaxation results of tert-butyl chloride in CPG of the 15.6 nm and 7.4 nm pore diameter in the temperature range 70 K≤ T≤ 292 K. The bulk-like component of the confined tert-butyl chloride, in temperatures corresponding to phase III, is interpreted as a composition of two dynamically different subphases. The parameters of motions of both subphases are derived. The tert-butyl group motion in both subphases is more restricted than in the bulk tert-butyl chloride, although the activation energies are lower. Differential scanning calorimetry was used to determine temperatures of the phase transitions (140 K≤T≤292 K). The results show that the depression of the phase transition temperature is pore size dependent and that the confinement has less influence on transition to the plastic phase than on the freezing and on the solid II - solid III transition.
