Opis:
The article contains an attempt to analyze changes in the level of renewable energy use in the Polish economy compared to other EU Member States and in comparison to the objectives set by the RED Directive. It refers to the principles and instruments that may help in achieving the minimum RES share in the energy balance of Poland and other EU MS. The objectives regarding the implementation of RED and RED II directives as well as instruments that Member States can use to achieve the assumed levels of renewable energy use are indicated. The analysis also applies to the current (2017 data) level of achievement of the objectives set in the examined area and points to the structure of production of individual renewable energy sources in the EU-28 countries. On the basis of Eurostat statistics, the current trends in the studied area in Poland and other EU countries were shown. Particular attention has been paid to Poland and its neighboring countries, where two trends clearly stand out: one of the rapid increase in the share of renewable energy and the second significant slowdown. The tendency to stabilize or reduce the share of renewable energy in the energy balance also applies to Poland. Among the factors affecting the possibility of achieving the 2020 target, i.e. for Poland, a 15% share of RES in the country's energy balance authors indicate those factors that limit the growth rate of RES use in Poland. The issue of the article was taken due to the fact that the lack of implementation of the legally binding target for the level of energy from RES through Poland may mean the necessity of statistical transfer of energy from RES from EU Member States, which have a surplus. According to the report of the Supreme Audit Office, the cost of this transfer can amount to PLN 8 billion annually. The work contains conclusions regarding the possibility of improvement in the scope of increasing the share of RES in energy production and consumption in Poland.
Praca zawiera wnioski dotyczące możliwości poprawy w zakresie zwiększenia udziału OZE w produkcji i konsumpcji energii w Polsce.

Opis:
Common dandelion (Taraxacum officinale F.H. Wigg) is perennial plant often step¬ping out in very large quantity in the sward of natural meadows. This species expands, enlarging its population very quickly. In the literature there is the lack of data related to influences of the common dandelion on plants growing in it’s neighbourhood. It is also unknown why this species creates large clusters. It may compete with different plants through the allelopatic influence. Therefore, the aim of this work was to test of the influence of water extracts from leaves and from the roots of common dandelion (Taraxacum officinale) as well as soil extracts from the radicular layer of this species on the germination of the seeds and the initial growth of Red fescue (Festuca rubra L.). The investigative material came from leaves and roots of Taraxacum officinale and soil coming from the radicular layer of this species. It was applied most often in biotest experiments on germination. Red fescue was the tested plant. The germination energy of red fescue was the most braked through the plant extracts prepared from roots and leaves of Taraxacum officinale.

The paper discusses metaphorical and metonymic extensions of the adjectives czerwony ‘red’ and czarny ‘black’. The connotative potential of red and black colour collocations is analyzed and discussed. Red and black collocations were excerpted from the two largest corpora, i.e. NKJP and MoncoPL. All colour citations are analysed in the framework of discourse analysis and conceptual metaphor and metonymy. The analysis indicates that extralinguistic factors (i.e. social, political and historical events) motivate the emergence of red and black colour collocations in modern Polish discourse.

Chamaecytisus albus (Hacq.) Rothm. is an extremely rare species, which is inserted in many European red lists and red books. Its continuous range covers the south-eastern part of Europe. That species grows in intensely insolated and calcareous habitats of xerothermic grasslands. Only one station of White Broom had been known in the valley of the Bug river, near Hrubieszów, but in 2007 a new one was discovered near Jędrzejów. That station is located the farthest in the north and the west in Europe and it is completely detached from the continuous range.

Opis:
Energy obtained from renewable sources (including biofuels, bioliquids and biofuels from biomass) is one of the most important factors necessary to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. A number of documents have been presented that regulate the requirements regarding the fulfillment of sustainable development criteria, which must be met by renewable fuels placed on the market, both at the EU (directive) and national (acts) level. The key in this aspect is Directive 2018/2001 (RED II) promoting the use of energy from renewable sources, which regulates in detail formal and legal issues related to the use of renewable fuels. The main part of the work, based on the RED II Directive as well as the guidelines presented in the documents of the KZR INiG certification system, presents the method of calculating the reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions for biofuels, bioliquids and fuels from biomass and other renewable products. The determination of GHG emissions reduction enables verification whether a given renewable fuel meets the applicable sustainability criteria. Guidelines for calculations of GHG emissions for renewable fuels, indicating the procedure and the scope of necessary data that must be obtained in order to carry out the correct calculations, are also presented. This data can be obtained from official publications of EU and government bodies (directives, acts) or other verified sources. Each method of producing a given biofuel, bioliquid or fuel from biomass should be analyzed individually, so as to properly inventory all processes and data necessary to carry out calculations of GHG emissions.

Opis:
Congo red and a group of structurally related dyes long used to stain amyloid proteins are known to associate in water solutions. The self-association of some dyes belonging to this group appears particularly strong. In water solutions their molecules are arranged in ribbon-like micellar forms with liquid crystalline properties. These compounds have recently been found to form complexeswith some native proteins in a non-standard way. Gaps formed by the local distribution of β-sheets in proteins probably represent the receptor sites for these dye ligands. They may result from higher structural instability in unfolding conditions, but also may appear as long range cooperative fluctuations generated by ligand binding. Immunoglobulins G were chosen as model binding proteins to check the mechanism of binding of these dyes. The sites of structural changes generated by antigen binding in antibodies, believed to act as a signal propagated to distant parts of the molecule, were assumed to be suitable sites for the complexation of liquid-crystalline dyes. This assumption was confirmed by proving that antibodies engaged in immune complexation really do bind these dyes; as expected, this binding affects their function by significantly enhancing antigen binding and simultaneously inhibiting C1q attachment. Binding of these supramolecular dyes by some other native proteins including serpins and their natural complexes was also shown. The strict dependence of the ligation properties on strong self-assembling and the particular arrangement of dye molecules indicate that supramolecularity is the feature that creates non-standard protein ligands, with potential uses in medicine and experimental science.

Natural radioactive elements such as uranium and thorium restrict the use of red mud as building materials or additives, and may cause environmental problems. The distribution features of U and Th in red mud was studied from micro and macro analysis, using EPMA, LA-ICP-MS, and methods of mineralogy and beneficiation. Based on the micro-area scanning analysis, main chemical compositions in red mud, such as Ca, Al, Si, Na, and K are dispersive while Fe and Ti mainly tend to concentrate in granular phases. Based on the in-situ analysis, the distribution of main elements and most trace elements in micro-zone of red mud was homogeneous. In micro-zone area, the variation tendency of thorium content was similar with Y in red mud samples. By means of the methods of mineralogy and beneficiation, red mud samples were separated into different fractions. U and Th tend to be enriched in the low density fraction of the red mud. Th presented a high concentration in the finest particle size fractions of the red mud. Neither U or Th was regularly distributed in various magnetic red mud fractions. Thorium fingerprint peaks were determined in perovskite by EDX under TEM, which is proposed to be one of the radioactivity sources in Bayer red mud.

How did the Journal survive the war, at a time when the Red Cross was deeply involved in supporting soldiers? This article examines the genesis of this publication and its evolving role during the war. This periodical, we argue, not only helped raise awareness of the work carried out by the Red Cross, but it also served practical purposes in the areas of training and funding. This publication reveals an increasingly critical stance towards the British Empire’s enemies in the war, as well as the need for the British Red Cross Society to foster a sense of unity amongst members posted around the world.

The aim of this study is to present the updated list of rare and threatened vascular plant species in the Lublin province. The threatened species categories are presented according to the IUCN criteria. The regional list contains 408 species (that makes up 25% of the Lublin Region flora); 56 of which are considered critically endangered, 81 represent endangered species, 51 belong to the category of vulnerable species, and 49 are near threatened species, respectively. The presence of 37 species has not been confirmed and therefore they are listed as regionally extinct (RE). Of the total number of species, 134 are rare, but because the data about those species is insufficient, they have been classified as DD category (data deficient). The species of the genera: Alchemilla, Callitriche, Hieracium, Oenothera, Rosa, Rubus and Taraxacum have not been evaluated (NE category). Other species – those whose occurrence is doubtful and all neophytes were defined as not applicable (NA). The endangered taxa occur mostly in dry grasslands, deciduous forests, wetlands, and calcareous weed communities of cereal crops.

Opis:
This essay evaluates the relative importance of the maritime trade between the Roman Empire and India along two routes that were in use: one started and ended on the Egyptian shore of the Red Sea, the other at the head of the Gulf. Both continued on land along caravan tracks to the Nile valley or through the Syrian desert to Palmyra. The latter land route, longer and presumably more cost-consuming, was used only during the 1st to 3rd centuries AD. The land link with the Far East, the so-called Silk Road, does not seem to have been regularly used. A document from Palmyra allows to estimate the value of the trade along the Syrian route as much smaller than that of the Red Sea traffic. It could have been mainly of local, Syrian importance, and lasted only as long as political circumstances allowed.

Opis:
Szadek was liberated from German occupation on 20 January 1945 by the soldiers of 33 Army of the Belorussian Front and 9 Armoured Guard Corps. However, the advent of Red Army soldiers in Szadek commune had tragic consequences for some of the inhabitants. In the village of Kotlinki, 5 km west of Szadek, they killed seven people. After the end of the war, in the socialist period, according to the official propaganda it was the retreating Wermacht troops that were guilty of this tragedy. All the killed persons, except S. Kaczmarek and one of the Soviet soldiers, were buried in a collective grave at St Lawrence cemetery in Szadek.

Opis:
The work was aimed at presenting meat and its products as functional, bioactive food, which, besides nutritional value, contains additional substances intended to strengthen their health. Functional food has gained and is gaining in importance as it has a positive effect on the health of the consumer, limiting the incidence of civilization and diet-related diseases. Functional foods, in addition to meat, also include its products in which the desired content of EFAs, dietary fiber and the limited content of undesirable salts and nitrates are increased. Red meat is a very good source of bioactive ingredients, vitamins and trace elements.

Opis:
The aim of the paper was to determine the variability of selected macrostructural features and wood density for northern red oak growing in south−eastern Poland. On 4 study plots, we sampled each tree, taking an increment core from the northern side of the trunk, from the height of 1.3 m. The number of tree rings, width and the share of sapwood was measured. The cores were scanned and then tree ring and latewood widths were measured. The latewood proportion in each ring was calculated. Next, starting from the bark, the cores were divided into sections containing 10 annual rings. The relative wood density was determined for each section, then the density was calculated for entire stem cross−section. The mean sapwood width was 1.5 cm. It included 7 annual rings on average, and its share in the trunk cross−sectional area reached 17%. Younger red oaks (II and III age classes) had a significantly higher share of sapwood compared to older trees (IV and V age classes). The investigated red oaks formed narrow−ring wood with an average width of 2.16 mm. The trees growing on deciduous forest habitat had a more equal tree ring width compared to trees from coniferous forest habitats, where this feature showed also higher variability. The latewood proportion in the studied red oaks was 60% on average. The mean relative wood density was 0.578 g/cm3 and it was slightly higher than the value given for red oaks growing in North America. The calculated absolute density (with an assumed volumetric shrinkage from 12.9 to 13.7%) varied from 0.664 to 0.670 g/cm3. It classifies the investigated wood as moderately heavy. Similar density values are given for native oaks, which allows to assume that the technical quality of the wood of red oaks growing in Poland is similar to native oak species. The wood of trees from deciduous forest habitat showed a significantly higher density and a more equal distribution compared to the trees from coniferous forest sites. The raw material of red oaks obtained from deciduous forest habitats should characterize by a better technical quality of wood in comparison with that obtained from coniferous forest sites.

Opis:
The narrative Gradov town written by A. Platonov attracted attention of many researchers in Soviet and Post Soviet periods. The most interesting approaches to interpretation are revealed in this work: widening of “bureaucracy” and “red tape” meaning; a problem of revolutionary tasks substituted by bureaucrats’ victories; a way of traditions’ using. Some unsuccessful attempts of philological analysis of the narrative were mentioned.

Opis:
The aim of this paper it to review various scale approaches to the blood flow modelling. Blood motion may be described by three types of mathematical models according to the observed scales or resolutions, namely microscopic, mesoscopic and macroscopic descriptions. The above approaches are discussed together with their advantages and disadvantages. Several results of mesoscopic simulations are presented with particular attention paid to mesoscale semi-continuum models suitable for real-time blood flow visualisation.
