This article deals with the re-interpretation of Tadeusz Hołuj’s drama Puste pole (1963; The Empty Field) and its theatrical staging by Józef Szajna in 1965. Based on the drama I want to demonstrate how the artists – who were both survivors of the concentration camp in Auschwitz – managed re-presenting the Holocaust despite the political situation and the accompanying anti-Semitic government campaign in Poland in the 1960s. The reception of the drama of then and nowadays shows how that re-presentation was once interpreted due to the political circumstances, which made the issue of the Holocaust and the Jews bannend from public life, language, and memory. Finally I explore how Hołuj’s drama can be read today when we approach it via postcatastophic re-reading determined by after-knowledge, retrospection, and retroactivity.

Artykuł dotyczy Bibliografii Dorobku Pracowników Uniwersytetu Śląskiego w ostatnich kilku latach. Omówiono zmiany zaistniałe w bazie bibliograficznej będącej źródłem referencyjnym i wskazano, że jej obecny kształt wynika z powiązań z systemami zewnętrznymi: uczelnianymi (Uniwersytetu Śląskiego w Katowicach) i krajowymi (ministerialnymi). Na kształt bazy mają wpływ: Portal Pracownika, Polska Bibliografia Naukowa (PBN), a w ostatnim czasie Repozytorium Uniwersytetu Śląskiego RE-BUŚ. Przedstawiono zastosowanie formatu MARC21, umożliwienie zastosowania punktacji ministerialnej w rekordzie bibliograficznym, procedury eksportu do Polskiej Bibliografii Narodowej, a także do Portalu Pracownika. Zaprezentowano, w jaki sposób odbywa się rejestrowanie numeru profilowego z systemu ORCID i eksport dorobku w formacie BibTeX. Wskazano na sposób dodawania linku do repozytorium uniwersyteckiego.
The article concerns the Bibliography of the Achievements of Employees of the University of Silesia in Katowice in the last few years. Changes in the bibliographic database resulting from cooperation with external systems (local and government systems) are presented. Discussed Systems that affect the current shape of the database: Employee Portal, Polish National Bibliography (PBN) and Repository of the University of Silesia in Katowice RE-BUŚ. The following changes were presented: implementation of the MARC21 Format, application of the ministerial publication points in the bibliographic record, export procedures to databases (Polish National Bibliography and Employee Portal). The way of registering the ORCID number is presented and export of publications in the BibTeX format. The method of adding a link to the university’s Repository of the University of Silesia in Katowice RE-BUŚ was indicated.

Opis:
Large increase in the emitted terahertz power was observed for p-InAs samples with the p-doping levels of approximately 10$\text{}^{16}$-10$\text{}^{17}$ cm$\text{}^{-3}$. This increase was explained by a large surface depletion layer and an electric-field-induced optical rectification effect in the layer. Terahertz fields radiated by the samples of all three investigated Cd$\text{}_{x}$Hg$\text{}_{1-x}$Te layers was of the same order of magnitude. No azimuthal angle dependence of the radiated signal was detected, which evidences that linear current surge effect is dominating over nonlinear optical rectification. Azimuthal angle and magnetic fields emission witness that it is caused by linear photo-Dember type processes.

Opis:
THz pulses were used to investigate carrier dynamics in narrow-gap semiconductors. The measurement of the optically induced THz pulse absorption transients provided important insights into electron energy relaxation in the conduction band. In the second set of experiments, THz generation from the surfaces of various semiconductors was studied and compared. It was found that the most efficient THz emitters are semiconductors with a narrow band gap, large intervalley separation in the conduction band, and low nonparabolicity of the main valley.

Opis:
The high harmonics produced by focusing an intense femtosecond laser in a gas are theoretically shown to be locked in phase. The physics of this locking is discussed and a new method based on quantum interference in two-photon, two-color ionization allowing to retrieve the relative phase of harmonic pairs is described. The main result is that the 5 harmonics of orders 11-19 produced in argon generate a train of subfemtosecond pulses with a period of 1.35 fs and a duration of 250 attoseconds.

Opis:
The linear and nonlinear optical response of colloidal PbSe nanocrystals was investigated. Optical nonlinearity and its recovery dynamics in this system was measured and compared with other available experimental data. The question of the U.S.–Mexico border has always been important for Latinx living in the U.S. and its versatile roles as well as its influence on border crossers and the environment have been presented by various Latinx and non-Latinx authors and artists. Their artistic productions illustrate the transformations of space into a contact zone and challenge the rationale of the wall. They vary in form from immediate responses to those interventions undertaken with the privilege of preparation, i.e. time. The purpose of this article is to examine how those post-millennial re-visions of the border re-define the conflicted and contentious space of the U.S.–Mexico border and how the time-determined form of selected examples of post-2000 border artivism influences those transformations.
Kwestia granicy amerykańsko-meksykańskiej zawsze była ważna dla Latynosów mieszkających w USA, a jej wszechstronne role, a także wpływ na osoby przekraczające granice oraz na środowisko, są przedstawiane przez różnych autorów i artystów latynoskich i nielatynoskich. Ich artystyczne produkcje ilustrują przemiany tej przestrzeni w strefę kontaktu a tym samym kwestionują racjonalność budowanego na granicy muru. Różnią się one formą – od działań, które stanowią natychmiastową odpowiedź na pojawiający się na granicy problem po interwencje podejmowane z „przywilejem” przygotowania, tj. czasem. Celem niniejszego artykułu jest zbadanie, w jaki sposób re-wizje granicy pows`tałe po roku dwutysięcznym na nowo definiują skonfliktowaną i sporną przestrzeń granicy amerykańsko-meksykańskiej oraz jak wybrane przykłady artystycznej aktywności społecznej wpływają na te przemiany.

A class of two person nonzero-sum nonsymmetric stochastic games of capital accumulation/resource extraction is considered. It is shown that the Nash equilibrium in the discounted games has a limit when the discount factor tends to 1. Moreover, this limit is an epsilon-equilibrium in the discounted game with sufficiently large discount factor.

In the first years of political transformation in Poland starting in 1989, one of the crucial issues was the reform of education, including changes in the procedure of professional advancement for teachers. At that time, it was also important for the Catholic Church to restore Religious Education in schools, which returned to the state education system in the 1990–1991 school year. Since then, RE teachers have had the same rights and obligations as teachers of compulsory subjects and undergone the same professional advancement procedure. Twenty years have passed since the new procedure of career progression for teachers was introduced in Poland. Therefore the author of the article attempts to answer the following questions: To what extent does the procedure meet the challenges of the information society and in what direction should it evolve due to the rapid development of information and communication technology in the world?

W artykule przedstawiono ewaluację wybranych cech stanowiących charakterystykę gmin i kandydatów pod kątem możliwości moderacji szans reelekcji inkumbentów na stanowiskach kierowników gminnej egzekutywy w gminach miejskich i miejsko-wiejskich w wyborach w 2014 r. Wnioski sugerują, że szanse reelekcji w tych wyborach w tej grupie stanowisk efektywnie moderowały m.in. takie zmienne jak: staż na stanowisku, posiadanie większości w radzie gminy, typ afiliacji komitetu wyborczego inkumbenta oraz wartości w roku wyborczym takich zmiennych charakteryzujących gminy jak: wydatki majątkowe inwestycyjne per capita, procent wydatków gmin na kulturę, procent wydatków gmin na pomoc społeczną czy liczba fundacji, stowarzyszeń i organizacji społecznych – poza OSP – na 10 tys. ludności.
The article presents the evaluation of selected characteristics of communes and candidates in terms of possible moderation of chances of re-election of incumbents as the managers of communal executive in urban and urban-rural communes in the 2014 election. The conclusions suggest that the chance of re-election in that election in the above-mentioned group of offices was effectively moderated i.a., by variables such as: the duration of holding the office before, having the majority in the communal council, the type of affiliation of the incumbent’s election committee, and the values of the following variables in the year of the election: the commune’s asset-related investment expenditure per capita, % of commune’s expenditure on culture, p.c. of commune’s expenditure on social welfare, as well as the number of foundations, associations and social organizations except Voluntary Fire Brigades per 10 thousand residents.

The aim of the article is to find out whether communes with a considerable share of non-Polish residents (exceeding 30%) differ in terms of stability of local executive authorities appointed as a result of direct elections from communes where this category of people did not occur at all in the 2002 national census, and from those where the share of such people is lower than 30%. Generally, the findings suggest there are no differences in this respect.

The aim of the analysis was to determine the influence of quantifiable characteristics of candidates and communes (independent variables) on the electoral chances of rural commune heads and town mayors in the competitive election carried out at the prescribed time in 2014 (the dependent variable). It was assumed that the chances of re-election of rural commune heads and town mayors in the 2014 election were determined by a set of selected 15 explanatory variables such as: the duration of holding the office before, having the majority in the communal council after the previous election, or the asset-related investment expenditure per capita in the year of the election. The independent variables mostly come from public statistics sources (e.g., Central Statistical Office, National Electoral Commission) and are selected on the basis of source literature and conclusions from the field study. Logistic regression was performed on a study sample selected out of all communes except towns with poviat rights (with a balanced proportion of electoral failures and successes in 2014) in order to verify the assumptions. The results of the analysis suggest i.a., that the chance of re-election in 2014 was higher in the case of: holding the office since 2010 and not longer, having the majority in the communal council established in the previous election, or higher investment expenditure in the year of the election. On the other hand, the chance of re-election was lower in the case of higher electoral competition or higher proportion of expenditure for social welfare in the general expenditure of the commune in the year of the election.
Celem analizy było określenie wpływu kwantyfikowalnych cech charakteryzujących kandydatów i gminy (zmienne niezależne) na szanse reelekcji wójtów i burmistrzów w wyborach konkurencyjnych rozgrywanych w regulaminowym terminie w 2014 roku (zmienna zależna). Przyjęto, że szanse reelekcji wójtów i burmistrzów w wyborach w 2014 roku warunkował zestaw wybranych 15 zmiennych objaśniających, takich jak m.in.: staż na stanowisku, posiadanie większości w radzie gminy z wyborów poprzednich, wydatki majątkowe inwestycyjne per capita w roku wyborczym. Zmienne niezależne pochodzą głównie ze źródeł statystyki publicznej (np.: GUS, PKW) i są dobierane na podstawie wskazań literatury przedmiotu i wniosków z badania terenowego. Do weryfikacji założeń wykorzystano regresję logistyczną zastosowaną na próbie dobieranej spośród wszystkich gmin poza miastami na prawach powiatu, równoważącej proporcję porażek i sukcesów wyborczych w 2014 roku. Wyniki analizy sugerują między innymi, że szanse ponownego wyboru w 2014 roku wzrastały w przypadku: rządzenia od 2010 roku, a nie dłużej, posiadania większości w radzie gminy według stanu formalnego z wyborów poprzednich czy wyższego wydatkowania inwestycyjnego w roku wyborczym. Szanse reelekcji zmniejszały się z kolei wraz ze wzrostem między innymi: konkurencji wyborczej czy udziału wydatków na pomoc społeczną w ogólnej puli wydatków gmin w roku wyborczym.

W artykule skupiono się przede wszystkim na przeprowadzeniu weryfikacji wpływu liczby kadencji nieprzerwanego piastowania stanowiska lokalnej egzekutywy przez tą samą osobę (od 2002 r.), na procentowy przyrost dochodów gmin ogółem per capita w 2013 roku względem roku 2003 oraz na poziom rozwoju społeczno-ekonomicznego gminy w 2013 roku. Uzyskane wyniki sugerują m.in., że gminy, w których władza wykonawcza sprawowana jest przez trzy i cztery kadencje (2002 r.) przez tę samą osobę, charakteryzują się wyższymi wartościami analizowanych zmiennych.
The article mostly focuses on verification of the impact of the number of terms of a person continuously holding a local executive office (from 2002) on communes’ percentage increase of income per capita in 2013 in comparison to 2003 and on the level of socio-economic development of the communes in 2013. The obtained results suggest among others that the communes where the executive authority has been exercised by the same person for three or four terms (from 2002) have higher values of the analysed variables.

Opis:
W artykule przy użyciu regresji wielorakiej i analizy wariancji w formacie ANCOVA, zaprezentowano weryfikację wpływu wybranych zmiennych na poziom głosów osiąganych w I turze przez kandydatów na stanowiska gminnej egzekutywy, w wyborach bezpośrednich. Wyniki wskazują m.in., że najsilniej, pozytywnie pod tym względem, szanse kandydatów buduje status inkumbenta, przy czym na największy „zyskˮ z tego tytułu mogą liczyć inkumbenci ubiegający się o drugą kadencję.
The article presents the verification, with the use of multiple regression and ANCOVA analysis of variance, of the impact of selected variables on the number of votes obtained by candidates for communal executive offices in the first ballot of direct elections. The results demonstrate, among others, that the status of incumbent has the strongest positive impact on the discussed support, whereas incumbents who apply for the second term may achieve the greatest “profit” in this regard.
