Opis:
Introduction: In Poland, colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of death. The incidence of colorectal cancer increases with age and early onset indicates and increased likelihood for genetic predisposition for this disease. The somatic genetics of tumor development in relation to patients age, gender, sex and morphological factors are unknown in Podlaskie region, Poland. Materials and methods: We investigated seventy five patients (43 men and 32 women) who underwent surgery for cancer of the colorectal in the II Department of General and Gastroenterological Surgery, Medical University of Białystok in 2002- 2007. The average age of patients was 64.8 years (the average age of women 66.7, men 63.1). All patients for the study of molecular research (absence or presence of K-RAS mutations) had histopathology confirmed adenocarcinoma. Results: There was no correlation presence or absence of mutations in K-RAS of the following clinical and morphological factors: gender, age, location, degree of tumor differentiation, tumor size and metastases to lymph nodes and other organs The gene encoding the K-Ras protein is mutated in 20- 50% of cases of colorectal cancer. Such a difference of results is influenced by several factors: differences of the techniques used for detecting mutations, differences in codon of the gene that is considered codon 12 and /or 13 and / or 61 and differences in the selection and study population. Conclusions: These data suggest the clinical and morphological factors in patients with colorectal cancer have no effect on the presence of K-RAS. mutation.

Opis:
Agricultural drainage has become a priority in agriculture and the economic development of the state. Algeria has launched several agro-economic projects pertaining to natural resources and human potential for development in agricultural areas. Our aim is to model the morphological evolution of open drainage channels, under the influence of sedimentary transport processes. The application of the Hydrologic Engineering Center’s River Analysis System (HEC-RAS) software is to examine two-phase mathematical models. In our case it is the flow and the sedimentary charge along a trapezoidal earth channel of a wetland north east of Algeria. The results of these models were validated by actual data obtained during the observation period from 2017 to 2018, for various rainy events. The solid transport and sedimentation velocity equations of Engelund and Hansen and Van Rijn respectively used by this model, give Nash performance criteria equal to 0.95 and determination coefficient R2 equal to 0.91. On the other hand, the laying of a coarse gravel layer of median diameter of the grains d50% = 60 mm on the bottom of the channels reduces the rate of sedimentation by about 32% over an 11-year period. This satisfying objective study of the modelling allows to obtain an approach to the renovation and a plan for new design of drainage systems, that participates to the sustainable development in the agricultural field.
W dwufazowym modelu matematycznym wykorzystano program HEC-RAS (Hydrologic Engineering Center’s River Analysis System). Zmiennymi w modelu były przepływ i ładunek zawiesiny wzdłuż ziemnego kanału o trapezoidalnym przekroju w środowisku podmokłym północnowschodniej Algierii. Wyniki modelu porównano z rzeczywistymi danymi opadowymi pozyskanymi w różnych okresach w latach 2017 i 2018. Równania Engelunda i Hansena (transport zawiesiny) i Van Rijna (tempo sedymentacji) użyte w modelu dały w wyniku kryterium Nasha równe 0,95 i współczynnik determinacji R2 równy 0,91. Warstwa grubego żwiru o medianie średnic ziaren d50% = 60 mm na dnie kanału spowalniała tempo sedymentacji o ok. 32% w ciągu 11 lat. Przedstawione badania umożliwiają nowe podejście do renowacji istniejących i projektowania nowych systemów drenarskich, które przyczyniają się do zrównoważonego rozwoju rolnictwa.

colorectal cancer
Opis:
Due to increased colorectal cancer incidence there is a necessity of seeking new both prognostic and prediction factors that will allow to evolve new diagnostic tests. K-ras gene seems to be such a factor and its mutations are considered to be an early marker of progression of colorectal cancer. The aim of the study was to find a correlation between K-ras gene mutation in patients with diagnosed colorectal cancer and selected clinical parameters. Material and methods. A total of 104 patients (41 women and 63 men) with diagnosed colorectal cancer were included in this study. The average age of male group was 68.3 and in female group – 65.9. Samples were taken from paraffine blocks with tissue from diagnosed patients and K-ras gene mutation were identified. Afterwards the statistical analysis was made seeking the correlation betweenK-ras gene mutation incidence and clinical TNM staging system, tumour localisation, histological type, sex, age. Results. K-ras gene mutations were detected in 20.1% of all colorectal cancers. Significantly higher rate of K-ras gene mutations were diagnosed among patients classified at stage I (40%), stage IIC (50%) and stage IV (50%) according to the TNM classification. Conclusions. The results of our study are compatible with other studies and indicate the correlation between K-ras gene mutation and colorectal cancer incidence. Identification of K-ras gene mutation may complement other diagnostic methods at early stage of colorectal cancer.

Opis:
Kunhar River hydrology and hydraulic design of a bridge on this river are being studied using HEC-Geo-RAS and Hydrologic Engineering Centers River Analysis System (HEC-RAS). The river flows in the northern part of Pakistan and is 170 km long. On both sides of the river, there are residential settlements. The river hydraulics is studied by using 30-metre remotely sensed shuttle radar topographic mission - digital elevation model (SRTM DEM) and Arc Map. 32 cross-sections are imported from Geographic Information System (GIS) to HEC-RAS. On historical peak flow results, the extreme value frequency distribution is applied, and a flood is determined for a 100-year return period, with a discharge estimated as 2223 cubic metres. Three steady flow profiles are adopted for HEC-RAS, the first is for the maximum historical peak data, the second is for the 100-year return period, and the third profile is for the latter 100-year period with a safety factor of 1.28. With remote sensing-based assessments, the proposed location for a bridge is determined and then verified with a field survey which was physically conducted. The maximum water height estimated in the river is about 4.26 m. This bridge will facilitate about 50 thousand population of Masahan and its surroundings. It will create a shortest link between Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Azad Kashmir and thus will enhance tourism and trade activities.

Flooding is one of the most frequent and devastating natural disasters in the world, generating negative impact to people, environment and economy. The paper aims in flood risk modelling and risk assessment based on one-dimensional HEC-RAS model and open data derived form the Head Office of Geodesy and Cartography. The research area covers the small historic city Kazimierz Dolny located on the Vistula River. The research was carried out in three stages. After digital elevation model and river valley elements (e.g. valley cross sections) data acquisition, as well as elaborating a roughness layer based on Manning's indicators, the ten-, one-hundred- and five-hundred-year floods water were modelled. The risk analysis showed that the 100-year flood is already causing quite significant damage to human and cultural assets, and the 500-year flood significantly increases it, destroying 2,016 buildings and flooding an area of almost 207 hectares.

Opis:
A failure analysis of Babar dam on the El Arab River was performed to highlight the impact of flood wave and velocities on the four villages downstream of the dam; Hella, Khérenne, Chebla and El Oueldja. The simulation of wave propagation along the El Arab River under several scenarios was performed by the hydraulic HEC-RAS model. This model is dedicated to the description of floods at the dam following a breach in the dike. The main factors considered in this simulation include the level of flood water, the flood hydrograph, and the typical scenario for this breach. The flood risk analysis revealed that the maximum of flood wave flow registered at the breach is (Qmax = 9253.02 m3∙s–1), and is beginning to mitigate downstream of the dam along the El Arab River where it reached at the last village with a low flow (Q = 1110.64 m3∙s–1). This simulation allowed drawing the risk map which showed the areas threatened by flood wave resulting from a total failure of the work, and consequently required a plan of security measures to moderate as much as possible the consequences of floods. A sensitivity analysis was conducted to approach the parameters of impact of the breach on the dam failure scenario. It was confirmed that these parameters as formulation time, breach width and side slope have a great influence on the dam failure scenario with the four adjustments (±20 and ±50).

In recent times, undesirable climatic conditions have been attributed to climate change. The intensity of rainfall has amplified extremely, causing floods in many areas worldwide. It is desirable to regulate and minimize the consequences of floods and excess downpour. Using geospatial data for the development of hydraulic models and mapping of simulation results has become standard practice for floodplain assessment. The objective of the current investigation is to use one-dimensional floodplain modeling of the Bhima River between Lonikand and Rahu using the RAS-mapper tool (HEC-RAS). The modeled river reach is about 67 km long, near the Pune administrative division of Maharashtra, India. The hydrodynamic flow computations were carried out for the years 2005 and 2017. A total of 595 cross sections along the main river was employed for hydrodynamic flow simulations. In this study, cross-sections and past observed flood data have been used to develop a 1-D integrated hydraulic model of the Bhima River. The simulated water levels are also validated with observed water levels and found to be reasonably correlated.

One of the trenches opened by the team of the PCMA during 2015–1026 at the site of Beit Ras (ancient Capitolias) in the governorate of Irbid, northern Jordan, revealed remains of the defensive city wall. Neither the foundation nor the earliest walking level connected with the wall could have been reached; however, the archaeological exploration allowed to identify three upper floors, all of them posterior to the construction of the city wall. The analysis of the ceramics from under the floors allowed to study the repertory of the local, regional and some imported wares in the Roman-period Capitolias and, at the same time, provided an insight to the chronology of the defenses of ancient Capitolias.

Celem pracy było poszukiwanie związku pomiędzy wystąpieniem mutacji genu K-ras u pacjentów z rozpoznanym rakiem jelita grubego a wybranymi parametrami klinicznymi. Materiał i metodyka. Badaniu poddano 104 pacjentów (41 kobiet i 63 mężczyzn) z potwierdzonym rakiem jelita grubego. Średnia wieku w grupie mężczyzn wynosiła 68,3 lat, a w grupie kobiet – 65,9 lat. Materiał do badań pobrano z bloczków parafinowych zawierających tkankę pacjentów i oznaczano mutację genu K-ras. Następnie wykonano analizę statystyczną poszukując związku pomiędzy wystą- pieniem mutacji genu K-ras a stopniem zaawansowania klinicznego wg klasyfikacji TNM, anatomiczną lokalizacją zmiany, typem histologicznym, płcią, wiekiem. Wyniki. Mutację genu K-ras stwierdzono w 20,1% z wszystkich badanych przypadków zachorowań na raka jelita grubego, przy czym znamiennie wyższy odsetek mutacji genu K-ras wykryto u chorych w I stopniu (40%), IIC (50%) i IV stopniu (50%) zaawansowania wg klasyfikacji TNM. Wnioski. Wyniki naszych badań potwierdzają doniesienia innych autorów i wskazują na korelację pomiędzy mutacją genu K-ras a występowaniem raka jelita grubego. Oznaczanie mutacji genu K-ras może być uzupełnieniem innych metod diagnostycznych we wczesnym etapie rozwoju raka jelita grubego.

The aim of the article is to analyse hydraulic conditions of water flow in a fish pass. The test facility is part of the Pomiłowo barrage in the commune of Sławno, Poland. The authors applied HEC-RAS software for modelling hydraulic parameters of the water flow in the fish pass. The data from field measurements was implemented in the software and calculations of changes in the water table in the fish pass were made. The results confirmed the usefulness of HEC-RAS software for estimating hydraulic parameters of water flow in a fish pass. HEC-RAS software enables to take into account the parameters responsible for the phenomena accompanying the flow through a fish pass. Selecting mathematical model parameters (coefficients) should be preceded by a multidimensional analysis of the facility. More precise information on hydraulics, hydrology and biology of the test fish pass are also required.

Opis:
Natural risks, particularly flood risk, are a topical subject in Algeria and throughout the world, particularly given the last major catastrophic floods in Sudan (2020) and North Africa. With the development of the climate change phenomenon in the world, risk management is becoming increasingly necessary for all the actors concerned (decision-makers, technicians, and the population) to identify protection issues. In 2018, in the extreme south of Algeria, In-Guezzam City suffered a devastating flood that caused significant damage and loss of human and material resources. More than 100 homes collapsed, and approximately 345 families were displaced. Currently, there is no research work to assess the hydrological situation and the risk of flooding in this region. Therefore, the main purpose of this study is to shed light on the risk of flash floods in the extreme south of Algeria with more specific attention to the August 2018 floods as well as the climate trends over the past 30 years using Mann–Kendall test and Sen’s Slope Estimator. The chosen approach involves a hydrological study and hydrodynamic modeling using HEC-RAS software. This latter allows for simulating floods using statistical methods and creating several regional flood hazard maps.

The aim of the study was to asses the influence of the type of rest on football players’ ability to repeat a phosphagen exercise. Twelve football players from the Polish third league were involved in the study and were subjected to a maximum power test on a cycloergometer. Respiratory parameters, lactic acid concentration in capillary blood and acid-base balance parameters were registered before, during and after the test. The test was carried out twice. During the first test the subjects used an active rest break (A) and during the second one they used a passive rest break (B). In part A the quantity of relative work was 87.61 ±9.25 J/kg and in part B it was 78.5 ±6.58 J/kg (p = 0.012). In test A during exertion and during restitution (4th minute) we registered higher values of the respiratory parameters (Rf, VE, VO2, VO2/kg). Our conclusion is that passive rest should be used when the objective is the fastest resynthesis of PCr and ATP. An active rest break should be used when the goal is to remove the accumulated LA as soon as possible.

For its numerous medieval monuments, the Raška region in and around modern Novi Pazar in southwestern Serbia was put on UNESCO ’s list of World Cultural and Natural Heritage sites in 1979 under the name of Stari Ras and Sopoćani. It consists of several components: the Medieval Town of Ras, St. Peter’s church in Novi Pazar, the Monastery of Đurđevi Stupovi and the Monastery of Sopoćani. As a living organism, situated in an intensely multi-ethnic area that was and still is on the crossroads of diverse peoples and influences, the Stari Ras and Sopoćani area is very challenging to manage, because the needs of cultural heritage workers and the needs of functioning monastic communities and the expanding city of Novi Pazar have to be reconciled. This paper aims at presenting the monuments that are incorporated into the Stari Ras and Sopoćani heritage site, as well as showing the character of the region and the challenges and opportunities of managing a cultural heritage site in regard to the diverse actual conditions.

The paper is focused on the integration of the US Army Corps of Engineers Hydrologic Engineering Center (HEC) models, particularly the HEC-RAS (River Analysis System) 1D hydraulic model, into a decision support system for predicting the effects of floods. The study was conducted in the Tamanrasset Valley watershed in Algeria, where the HEC-RAS model was used to calculate water flow profiles for various flood events that occurred downstream. The objective of the study was to generate flood maps for extreme river flood events in the area, which could help assessing the risk of flood vulnerability in the area study. The process involved using the HEC-RAS 1D model to simulate the water flow in the river, taking into account the various flow and boundary conditions. The results of the simulation were then exported and analyzed in GIS-based software, HEC-GeoRAS, to prepare the flood inundation maps. The flood maps were based on the water level at each cross-section, which was calculated using the water surface profiles generated by HEC-RAS. The study aimed to identify flood zones using a combination of HEC-GeoRAS and GIS. The HEC-GeoRAS extension was utilized in a GIS environment to determine flood zones associated with 10-year, 20-year, 50-year, and 100-year return periods. The results of the study confirmed the effectiveness of the integration of GIS and HEC-RAS and demonstrated the performance of the model. Based on these findings, the study recommends the application of this model in planning and management programs for both residential and agricultural areas, to ensure appropriate measures are taken for future flood defense.
