Opis:: The article focuses on multicomponent system separation with the use of an innovative membranebased technique i.e. pervaporation. Pervaporation is a membrane technique for separation of liquid mixtures on solid nonporous membranes. Pervaporation is used in this study to separate a quaternary system acetone-butanol-ethanol-water. Such a system may be derived from ABE fermentation process, and the resulting product, biobutanol, is a potential biofuel and may be used in internal combustion engines. Experiments in the study involving concentration of butanol by pervaporation were performed using PERVAP 4060 flat-sheet commercial membrane. To describe the PV process a semi-empirical approach was used. As a result of experiments and calculations permeance coefficients were obtained. Separation and permeance factors were calculated to assess the efficiency of the system separation. Beforehand, activity coefficients were determined for all the components of the mixture with the NRTL equation. Separation coefficients for all the components differed depending on process parameters: concentration, feed flow rate and process temperature. The study confirmed the separation effect of the quaternary system. The most interesting results were obtained for the concentration of butanol. Pervaporation allows to concentrate butanol over 10 times. The permeance coefficient reached for butanol an average value of 7.06 10-3 in comparison with the results for ethanol 3.24 10-2 and acetone 1.83 10-2 [kmol(m2h)-1]. The temperature change from 50 to 70 [degrees]C led to an increased permeance factor and there was no apparent effect on it in the feed flow rate. Due to the hydrophobicity of the membrane water fluxes in the quaternary system were negative.

Opis:: Different glaciotectonic structures and landforms occur in the territory of Belarus: folded dislocations, glacial depressions, rafts and injective features. The largest folded glaciodislocation is 30 km long and 8-11 km wide, and glacial rafts are up to 1.5 km long and 20-25 m thick. Many glaciotectonic structures are clearly expressed in landscape. Most large folded glaciodislocations were formed during the Sozh (Warthe) Stage of the Dnieper Glaciation.

Sub-Quaternary buried relief between Wieprza and Łupawa rivers in northern Poland has been subject to geological research, by means of analysis of geological maps indicating sub-Quaternary morphology. For comparative analysis, maps prepared within the Detailed Geological Map of Poland 1:50,000 project and maps executed by the present author in identical scale have been used. The course of sub-Quaternary depressions on either maps shows discrepancies. Five genetic types have been distinguished, although their polygenesis is inferred. The oldest sub-Quaternary valleys are of late Cretaceous age and their origin had been influenced by Alpine tectonics. In the Tertiary, a valley system with north-and north-west-oriented drainage developed, with the base-level along the axis of the present-day Baltic Sea. During Pleistocene glaciations the older relief was covered by glacial and glacifluvial deposits. The sub-Quaternary depressions are important water suppliers for local people. In addition, an attention has been paid to the age and source of ice rafted material, as well as to the timing of their deposition, as these are important constraints in the Pleistocene stratigraphy. Ice rafted material from Możdżanów and Krzywań has special economic importance, bearing amber and phosphates, respectively.

Opis:: The possible existence of a circular structure in the Kościerzyna region (northern Poland) was suggested in two papers in the 1980s. The current studies were aimed at verifying this hypothesis. Analysis of a digital terrain model of the pre-Quaternary surface relief as well as of the present terrain revealed the existence of a large structure of ca. 50 km in diameter. Its geometry was established based on a model of the Neogene/Pliocene surface and identifiable lineaments. Its characteristic feature is the presence of rim-like forms, an internal plateau, and a “high” in the centre. The structure is estimated to date from before the Pleistocene. The circular structure has been reshaped by glacial erosion and accumulation, and is now buried under Quaternary deposits. The existence of the Kościerzyna circular structure was confirmed by conducted studies, but my hypothesis of an impact origin is still uncertain and needs to be confirmed by future research.
