Poznań 2019, Adam Mickiewicz University Press, pp. 357–370. ISSN 1644-6763. DOI 10.14746/ pt.2019.32.19. The subject of the article is an animated film A Pushkin Trilogy directed by Andrei Khrzhanovsky, dedicated to Alexander Pushkin. It comprises the films: Ya k vam lechu vospominanem, I s vami snova ya and Osen. The article attempts to answer the question about the reasons for the director’s interest in this outstanding writer and his work. It also shows the evolution of the ‘Pushkin theme’ in Khrzhanovsky’s work, changes in the content and formalism, and artistic research that led to the creation of the original animated trilogy. The poetics of the work are analyzed, in which the director looks at the work of the Russian writer through the prism of his manuscripts and sketches, while at the same time expanding the formula of the biographical film.

Opis:
The tragedy Borys Godunov should be admitted to be a picture of an essential culture space. The drama represents generally accepted stereotypes and patterns refering to the Polish nation, however it pays attention to diversity of meaning of Pushkin’s attitude towards Poland. The poet contrasted in the work culture and customs of both nations, he chose heroes, whose names and behaviour evoked readers’ doubts and associations with the biography of Pushkin. Characters of the drama are among others: the fictitious son of Andrzej Kurbski - the Kazakh hero, the nobleman Sobański - in all probability related to the emissary Karolina Sobańska, mysterious and susceptible of various interpretations Piotr Łukicz Chruszczow. Present Pushkin’s texts researches confirmed, that impossible is univocal defining the poet’s mutual relations to Poland and the Polish. Pushkin’s views on the Polish matter differed from his personal connections with Mickiewicz’s compatriots, but, probably, he had the invariable and finally specified opinion on the real weight of the Republic of Poland’s culture and its meaning for Russia and Western Europe.

Opis:
Adam Mickiewicz and Aleksander Pushkin’s mutual translations constitute an essential element of the two artists’ creative relationship. The undisputed fact is that the choice of Mickiewicz’s works for translation made by the Russian poet was not accidental. It is emphasised that the translations mattered the development of artistic awareness of the poet. They enriched his poetical output. They also enabled to extend the range of artistic styles of Russian literature, which allowed more original and reliable presenting subtlety of that reality. Two substantial factors influenced the work on ballads The Three Lithuanians and The Ambush. One of them was the poet’s great interest in folklore and folk traditions. It is proved in subject matters and forms of many pieces of work, especially those ones created in autumn in the year of 1883 (The History o f Pugachov, The Tale o f the Fisherman and the Fish, The Tale o f the Dead Princess and the Seven Knights). The next significant fact was personal acquaintance with the Polish poet. Familiarization with the fourth volume of the complete edition of Mickiewicz’s works must have induced the Pushkin’s literary riposte - the habitual guest in Moscow andPetersburg’s parlours. As a result Russian literature was enriched with two translations, existing on equal footing of independent literary works, impressing with its excellence up to now.

The article is an attempt to demystify Secret Notes from 1836-1837, which were published by Mikhail Armalinski in the United States in 1986 as an authentic text by Aleksandr Pushkin. There are a number of argument in favour of the diaries having been fabricated and intellectual fraud committed, with the most important being: 1. Secret Notes from 1836-1837 are not on the Index Librorum Prohibitorum; 2. the hoax-author thinks in terms of a person educated in the 20th century, rather than in the 19th one; 3. descriptions of sexual behaviour bear resemblance to contemporary style of a pornographic production; 4. there is too much narrator’s distance from himself and depicted events in the analysed work; 5. the structure of Secret Notes ...shows classical creative behaviours, including the hoaxer’s attachment to definite leitmotifs.

In the first half of 19th century in Russia, being a child of parents from upper class, was not enough to earn the name of true nobleman. It was only a beginning of the arduous process. From the cradle the offspring was taught that the aristocrat should excel in courage, Western manners and languages, general education, artistic talents and athletics. A true Russian nobleman could not differ in any way from his Western European counterpart. In this paper we analyze the childhood reminiscences of Alexander Pushkin as well as his works understood as an example of the influence of the Western model  of upbringing on the personality and development of a Russian noble’s child.

Alexander Kushner’s poetry is an endless and timeless dialogue with his predecessors. Alexander Pushkin has a special place among them. Overt and covert references to the author of “Eugene Onegin” are present at various levels of Kushner’s texts – in themes, images, ideas, as well as at the level of formal organization: in language and metrics. The present article deals with the modes of reception and interpretation of Pushkin’s lyrics in the oeuvre of the contemporary poet from St. Petersburg. The analysis focuses on the varied forms of Kushner’s intertextual dialogue with the Romantic poet (quotations, allusions, reminiscences, references both of literary and biographical character). The sources and nature of reminiscences from Pushkin are indicated, such as accepting dialogue, polemics, assimilation, rejection and partial redefinition.

Opis:
Adam Mickiewicz’s paraphrase of Ode III 30 by Horace has survived in two manuscript versions. In each, however, the incipit of Horace’s verse, treated as the title of the Polish poet’s work, is referred to in a slightly different form and its key word appears in as many as three variants (in two manuscript versions and in the first print edition). This fact and various interpretation possibilities related thereto constitute an essential part of the present remarks. The article ends with a supplement of sorts dedicated to the paraphrase of the same Horatian ode by Pushkin. The poem is a very important element of the Russian Romantic’s oeuvre; it is considered to be his poetic last will and testament. All the more surprising, it might seem, were the problems with its first publication, and some discrepancies in the alterations made in the first edition of the paraphrase by Mickiewicz indicate their common source – the “political incorrectness” of both authors.

Avant-garde, a rebellious band of new trends and tendencies in art that appeared in the early 20th century, lasted for years being transformed, yielding the new forms of expression. It is also a trend of art most often associated with contemporaryBelarusian art (partially due to “school of Vitebsk”, Marc Chagall and Kazimir Malevich), still enjoying popularity in the country. One of the most recognizable Belarusian artistsis Ales Pushkin, born in 1965 in Bobr, associated with the Achremczuk’s National Schoolof Music and the Arts in Minsk and Vitebsk artistic environment. Pushkin is known for his indomitable, rebellious attitude towards the state regime. For many observers, art amateurs and even art critics, the character of his work immediately resembles avant-garde. However, as some researchers noted, Pushkins’ art enters a new dimension, paving the way towards new horizons of contemporary (avant-garde?) art of Belarus.

The article presents the characteristics of the romantic irony employed in Alexander Pushkin’s digressive poem Eugene Onegin and Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s opera titled alike. The analysis of selected fragments of the libretto which were based on the verses constituting the digressive (rather than storytelling) layer of Pushkin’s work allow one to conclude that the operatic version of Onegin expresses exactly the same kind of romantic irony which was used by the romantic poet. The authors of the libretto achieved something typical of Pushkin’s irony – a flow of the border between illusion and disillusion and an effortless crossing of the dialectic borders of time and space. They did so by multiplying and splitting into layers the “I” of the main character which functions both in the dramatic plane and beyond it, taking over the functions which in Pushkin’s text were performed by the narrator.

Relationship: Russia – Europe is an important component of the political situation in contemporary Europe and the world. This also applies to Poland. Today, due to the war in Ukraine, this is an extremely topical subject matter. This is a question about Russia. Two positions have been formed in the tradition of culture and journalism. According to one, Russia is totalitarian country and an aggressor. And this is the „Russian soul”; Putin today. Russia is not changing. This means that there can be no acceptance of this state of affairs. It can only respond to „strenght” with „force”. According to the second position, such thinking means staying in the world of stereotypes and myths. There is no such thing as „Russian soul”. This means that Russia is not Putin. There is „Russia as such”. And we need to cooperate with this country. It is an anti-Putin opposition (M. Khodorkowsky, G. Kasparov, A. Navalny…). And today – as it was in the past – Poland remains in the circle of this dilemma.
