Goodman Point Pueblo
Mesa Verde
Pueblo Culture - Opis:
- Goodman Point Pueblo was one of the biggest sites in the Mesa Verde region of the Pueblo culture (Colorado), in the thirteenth century AD. Excavations carried out at the site since 2005 revealed the existence of stone and wooden architecture, of residential and storage function, characteristic of the Late Pueblo III Period (1225 -1300 AD), as well as the so-called public architecture, which include mainly the complex of interconnected rooms built on the “D-letter” shape, ceremonial square, a stone wall surrounding the village, towers, and so-called great kiva (building of a ceremonial and utilitarian purpose). The site was probably inhabited by about 550– 800 people, and - as indicated by the ceramic typology and first dendrochronological dates - was established and functioned most likely in the second half of the thirteenth century AD. It was deserted in the end of this century, which coincides with the total depopulation and migration of Pueblo Indians from Mesa Verde region to the south and east, to Arizona and New Mexico, where the modern Pueblo Indians live today.
