Opis:
Staphylococcus aureus (Gram-positive coccus) and Pseudomonas aeruginosa (Gram-negative bacterium) are the leading etiologic agents of biofilm-related, life-threatening infections in patients after orthopaedic implantations. The aim of the present paper is to estimate the ability of these two bacterial strains to form a biofilm on bioresorbable composites manufactured from polylactide (PLA) and hydroxyapatite (HA) with the use of Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) method. Methods: Microbiological tests were conducted on two variants of a solid specimen made with additive laser technology. Samples with different content of hydroxyapatite were made, with appropriate manufacturing parameters to ensure stability of both composite ingredients. The geometry of samples was obtained by technical computed tomography. Microbiological tests determined the number of bacterial cells after incubation. Results: The results indicate significantly decreased ability of S. aureus and P. aeruginosa to form biofilms on the surface of materials with higher content of hydroxyapatite ceramics. Conclusions: The data may be useful for future applications of SLS technology in the production of bioresorbable PLA/HA medical implants

While at first glance the difference between fruit and vegetables appears to be clear, there are some problematic cases. One of them is the tomato, which is commonly regarded as a vegetable, although – technically speaking – it is a fruit. The aim of the present paper is to explain the controversies concerning the classification of tomatoes and other similar examples. In particular, the prototype-based approach to categorisation appears to offer a better chance of revealing the mechanisms that stand behind the issue of categorisation, than the classical approach.

Omówione w artykule pojęcie indywidualizm odnosi się do podmiotowości funkcjonowania człowieka, zagadnień związanych z jego tożsamością i oznacza sposób myślenia oraz postępowania charakteryzujący się odmiennością i dystansem wobec poczynań ogółu. Zostało w nim pokazane przede wszystkim to, jak obecnie w języku polskim jest wyrażane pojęcie indywidualizm. Wyrazy i konstrukcje językowe, którymi posługuje się współczesny użytkownik języka w celu zwerbalizowania tego pojęcia, mieszczą się w obrębie takich kategorii semantycznych, jak: myślenie, działanie, wolność, samorealizacja, kontakty społeczne, odróżnianie się od innych. Rdzeń tego pojęcia stanowią wyrazy: indywidualizm, indywidualista – i są to leksemy, które reprezentują indywidualizm w sposób prototypowy. Synonimiczne określenia wyrazowe odnoszące się do indywidualizmu i będące w jego centrum to: ujednostkowienie, swój własny, oryginalny sposób istnienia. Inne elementy językowe, które mieszczą w sobie mniej lub bardziej te same sensy znaczeniowe i tworzą centrum tego pojęcia, to na przykład: moje ja, jednostka sama w sobie, bycie sobą. W artykule rozważano między innymi zagadnienie dotyczące tego, w jakim stopniu na przestrzeni dziejów istota ludzka mogła korzystać z prawa do kształtowania swojego losu. Zwrócono również uwagę na to, że indywidualizmem jest pielęgnowanie w sobie przekonania o wyjątkowości własnego sposobu myślenia i wynikającego z niego działania bez odbierania znaczenia temu, w jakim sposób myślą i działają inne osoby. Właściwie rozumiany indywidualizm jest wyrazem przekonania, że warto poświęcić swoje życie czemuś wielkiemu, szlachetnemu, i jest konceptualizowany przez użytkowników języka za pomocą różnorodnych określeń wartościujących, takich jak: prawdziwy człowiek, wybitna jednostka, bohater, a także: indywidualność czy wybitna indywidualność. Doskonałym wyrazem prawdziwego indywidualizmu człowieka są dzieła literackie, muzyczne, malarskie, a użytkownicy języka określają wielkiego artystę mianem indywidualności twórczej. Fałszywy indywidualizm jest wynikiem egocentryzmu i prowadzi do alienacji jednostki, mając negatywne konsekwencje dla pojedynczego człowieka i dla społeczeństwa.
The article discusses the concept of individualism, referring to the subjectivity of human functioning, issues connected with their identity as well as a manner of thinking and behaving, characterised by otherness and distance from the actions of the community. First of all, the article presents how the concept of individualism is currently expressed in Polish language. Words and linguistic structures which are chosen by a contemporary language user in order to verbalise this concept are included within such semantic categories as: thinking, action, freedom, self-fulfilment, social contacts, and distinguishing oneself from other people. The core of this concept is constituted by the following words: individualism and individualist, which are the lexemes that represent individualism in a prototypical manner. The synonymous words relating to individualism and being at its centre are: individualisation, one's own, unique way of being. Other linguistic elements, which include the same meanings, to a greater or lesser degree, and create the centre of this concept, are: my self, an individual oneself and being oneself. The article also covers the issue concerning the extent to which a human being could have exercised the right to shape one's own destiny in the course of the history of humankind. The study also emphasises that individualism means fostering one’s belief in the uniqueness of one's own way of thinking and the resulting actions, without diminishing the importance of the way other people think and act. Individualism understood properly is the expression of the belief that it is worthwhile to devote one's life to something great, noble and it is conceptualised by the language users with a variety of evaluative terms such as: a real human being, an outstanding individual, a hero, as well as a personality and an outstanding personality. Literary works, music, paintings are the perfect expression of true human individuality, while a great artist is often described as a creative individual by the language users. False individualism is the result of egocentrism and leads to the alienation of an individual, with negative consequences both for a single human and the society.

Maintaining machinery in conditions capable of production requires certain level of maintenance which should be planned in order to avoid unnecessary downtiqmes. Technical diagnostics and monitoring provides data necessary for effective targeting, planning, and optimizing maintenance actions. This article describes a proposal of a system designed for monitoring various parameters on educational machine tools of EMCO Concept series, which are widely used at schools and universities and therefore, relatively easily accessible for research without any issues regarding confidentiality, common in industrial applications. The article describes a situation for which the device was designed, measured parameters, sensors its implementation and testing.

We have two motivations. Firstly, semantic gap is a tough problem puzzling almost all sub-fields of Artificial Intelligence. We think semantic gap is the conflict between the abstractness of high-level symbolic definition and the details, diversities of low-level stimulus. Secondly, in object recognition, a pre-defined prototype of object is crucial and indispensable for bi-directional perception processing. On the one hand this prototype was learned from perceptional experience, and on the other hand it should be able to guide future downward processing. Human can do this very well, so physiological mechanism is simulated here. We utilize a mechanism of classical and non-classical receptive field (nCRF) to design a hierarchical model and form a multi-layer prototype of an object. This also is a realistic definition of concept, and a representation of denoting semantic. We regard this model as the most fundamental infrastructure that can ground semantics. Here a AND-OR tree is constructed to record prototypes of a concept, in which either raw data at low-level or symbol at high-level is feasible, and explicit production rules are also available. For the sake of pixel processing, knowledge should be represented in a data form; for the sake of scene reasoning, knowledge should be represented in a symbolic form. The physiological mechanism happens to be the bridge that can join them together seamlessly. This provides a possibility for finding a solution to semantic gap problem, and prevents discontinuity in low-order structures.

This paper presents the Author’s method for describing prototype categories based on dictionary and corpora data. The case of the conceptual category ROBAK demonstrates that prototype theory’s standard and extended versions’ tools (distinguished by Georges Kleiber) are insufficient to reconstruct some conceptual categories. ROBAK is an example of an atypical category both collective and taxonomic. Within the approach presented in this paper the Author attempts to bring together the conceptualization of a prototype as a set of features and cue validity parameter as an indicator of importance of a single feature for the category. The Author proposes a set of steps leading to the reconstruction of the prototype structure of the category ROBAK. Those steps may also be employed to analyze other categories.

Today's world mainly focuses on reducing human effort and maximizing efficiency. Machines are replacing humans in many hazardous working environments. Automation is playing an important role in saving human efforts in most of their day-to-day works. A robotic vehicle has been developed in this project which can be particularly used in a small scale industry. The robotic vehicle is controlled by a mobile phone that is connected to the robot through a GSM network which acts as a remote controller. DTMF technology is used, which enables the robot to be controlled over the GSM network. The keypad of the mobile phone acts as a remote to control the vehicle's movement. The robotic vehicle developed is not an Automated Guided Vehicle (AGV) as an operator has to manually operate the vehicle. A sensor is attached to the front of the vehicle which senses obstruction in its path and enables the vehicle to avoid collisions with moving or fixed objects. The vehicle features battery powered motors and computer technology that has been programmed to drive to and from specific points. This research work involves the fabrication of a working model vehicle controlled over a GSM network using DTMF technology. The guided vehicle can work in environments such as transporting materials from a warehouse to production lines to reduce human effort and increase efficiency.

In this paper we intend to prove the importance of cognition in the difficult and complex task of finding the right definition for a term or a collocation. The principles of categorization can be successfully applied in order to find the needed and structured information about the perceived world. They can also help finding the attributes that distinguish representatives of one category. Categorizing by using prototypes contributes to the development of individuals’ vocabulary in various fields and also in discovering the most important distinctive features in order to define object, beings or abstract notions of the perceived world. A good definition must contain not only distinctive features but also specific attributes, in order to increase its accuracy.

The aim of the present article is to analyse the metalinguistic function of the nominal reduplication in Spanish. The lexical reduplication is a mechanism that consists in repeating a lexical unit within one phrase. The study shows that the nominal reduplication presents metalinguistic functions that reveal the interest of the speakers in a number of semantic issues related to the linguistic categorization and the concept of prototype. What is more, the metalinguistic aspect of the reduplicative constructions play a crucial role in a variety of situations as it entails some intersubjective meanings that are of a great importance for the interaction.

Budowanie różnych wersji pojazdów, nie tylko wojskowych, na podwoziu bazowym jest powszechnie stosowaną praktyką. Opracowywanie przez producentów nowych konstrukcji pojazdów kołowych wiąże się z koniecznością badań nad bezpieczeństwem ruchu. W celu ich uniknięcia zwykle wykonuje się, zarówno bardzo kosztowne jak i niebezpieczne dla ludzi, badania na pojazdach prototypowych. Tworzenie nowych konstrukcji pojazdów nie powinno wiązać się z pogorszeniem ich bezpieczeństwa. Jednym z elementów wpływających na bezpieczeństwo pojazdów wojskowych są własności trakcyjne oraz zdolność do pokonywania terenu. W artykule zostaną zasugerowane kwestie związane z opracowywaniem nowej konstrukcji pływającego transportera, nośnika systemów wykrywania i identyfikacji. W tym wyniki badań symulacyjnych i eksperymentalnych oraz analiz.
Construction different versions of the vehicles, not only military base on the chassis is common practice. Development of new designs for manufacturers of wheeled vehicles is likely to require research on traffic safety. In order to avoid them, usually carried out, both very expensive and dangerous to humans, studies of prototype vehicles. Project of new vehicle design should not be associated with deterioration of their safety. One of the elements affecting the security of military vehicles are the traction and the ability to overcome the terrain. The article will be suggested issues related to the development of new offshore structures transporter, carrier detection and identification. The simulation results and experimental and analysis.

Opis:
Prepositions are highly polysemous items i.e. they are used in various semantic and syntactic contexts. In the theory elaborated by Johnson (1987) and Lakoff (1987), image schemas have been applied to the analysis of the meaning of prepositional phrases. These structured wholes allow for the interpretation of the prepositional phrases both in spatial contexts (locational and directional) and in their metaphorical extensions. The analysis of the preposition in in Italian in spatial contexts leads to the conclusion that the unit in is a linguistic tool that engenders the container schema in whatever spatial context (static or dynamic) it appears. In dynamic contexts the container schema structures only the final location of the trajector which is located in the inner part of the landmark. Directional movement is structured with a path schema built up into the verb stem. The in phrases out of the context (without a static or dynamic predicate) can receive both in or into interpretation. There is only a partial overlap between the uses of the preposition in in Italian and in Polish, which is due to different categorisations of spatial relations in both languages. The Polish equivalents of in phrases in Italian are the following: w+loc, w+acc, na+loc, na+acc i do+gen. They involve different image schemas including the container schema. The first structure w+loc is modelled by the container schema, the second in+acc by the path and container schema, the third na+loc by the support and contiguity schema, the fourth na+acc by the path and support and contiguity schema and the fifth do+gen by the endpoint schema. These correspondences may result useful in the teaching/learning process of prepositional units.

Learning vector quantization (LVQ) is one of the most powerful approaches for prototype based classification of vector data, intuitively introduced by Kohonen. The prototype adaptation scheme relies on its attraction and repulsion during the learning providing an easy geometric interpretability of the learning as well as of the classification decision scheme. Although deep learning architectures and support vector classifiers frequently achieve comparable or even better results, LVQ models are smart alternatives with low complexity and computational costs making them attractive for many industrial applications like intelligent sensor systems or advanced driver assistance systems. Nowadays, the mathematical theory developed for LVQ delivers sufficient justification of the algorithm making it an appealing alternative to other approaches like support vector machines and deep learning techniques. This review article reports current developments and extensions of LVQ starting from the generalized LVQ (GLVQ), which is known as the most powerful cost function based realization of the original LVQ. The cost function minimized in GLVQ is an soft-approximation of the standard classification error allowing gradient descent learning techniques. The GLVQ variants considered in this contribution, cover many aspects like bordersensitive learning, application of non-Euclidean metrics like kernel distances or divergences, relevance learning as well as optimization of advanced statistical classification quality measures beyond the accuracy including sensitivity and specificity or area under the ROC-curve. According to these topics, the paper highlights the basic motivation for these variants and extensions together with the mathematical prerequisites and treatments for integration into the standard GLVQ scheme and compares them to other machine learning approaches. For detailed description and mathematical theory behind all, the reader is referred to the respective original articles. Thus, the intention of the paper is to provide a comprehensive overview of the stateof- the-art serving as a starting point to search for an appropriate LVQ variant in case of a given specific classification problem as well as a reference to recently developed variants and improvements of the basic GLVQ scheme.

In this article I attempt to highlight and briefly analyze some problematic aspects of the theory of prototypes and its implications in moral thought. I focus on the issue of moral judgement and the impact of prototypicality on our understanding of moral concepts. The objective of the article is to indicate the significance of the new perspectives opened by the notion of prototype, but also to point out certain difficulties. Some of the problematic questions emerge from the very existence of the prototype structure of categories and concepts; other problems arise with reference to the proposed implications or postulates which are connected with the acknowledgement of the significance of prototypicality. Due to the recognition of the practical dimension of ethics, the main issues are presented through examples of concepts which are commonly used in everyday life, referring to political and social values, traits of character and emotions.

W pracy przedstawiono propozycję konstrukcji prototypu tłumika drgań, pracującego na bazie rdzenia, utwo- rzonego ze specjalnej struktury granulowanej. Idea specjalnej struktury granulowanej polega na umieszczeniu luźnego mate- riału granulowanego w szczelnej przestrzeni, w której w dalszym etapie wytwarza się częściową próżnię. Różnica pomiędzy ciśnieniem atmosferycznym, panującym na zewnątrz granulowanego konglomeratu i ciśnieniem wewnętrznym, powoduje powstawanie sił tarcia pomiędzy poszczególnymi ziarnami struktury. Siły wzajemnych oddziaływań ziaren są tym większe, im wyższa jest wartość rozpatrywanego podciśnienia wewnętrznego. W pracy skupiono się na analizie rezultatów ekspery- mentalnych szeregu rdzeni granulowanych ze szczególnym zwróceniem uwagi na możliwości zmiany ich właściwości dyssypacyjnych.
In presented paper a proposal of granular damper prototype has been presented. Granular damper works on the basis of a core made of special granular structure. Idea of special granular structure consists of placing loose granular grains into a hermetic envelope, wherein in the next stage a partial vacuum is generated. Difference between an atmospheric pressure, externally surrounding the core and internal one, causes occurring friction forces between single grains. Interacting friction forces are greater for higher values of internal underpressure. In presented work author focuses on analysis of experimental results obtained for the whole family of granular cores. Variations in energy dissipation possibilities are particularly described in this paper.
