Opis:
Project-based learning (PBL) witnesses ever more interest on the part of teachers at all levels of education. Unfortunately, the growing popularity of this method is only occasionally accompanied by in-depth and critical refl ection. Available literature devoted to this topic generally lacks critical publications that would inspire deliberation over of the conditions necessary to apply project-based learning into the educational process. The number of texts in which the authors move beyond the level of description concerning the implemented project and revise their educational practices is even smaller. In this paper I critically review my own educational activities in which project-based learning was a dominating method. When analyzing transcripts of students’ discussions during the evaluation stage of the project, I uncover stores of knowledge of teachers-to-be (communicative and conjunctive patterns) that govern their activities in order to eventually answer the questions as to the conditions in which project-based learning might be applied in the educational process of prospective teachers.

Opis:
The Project-Based Learning (PBL) approach to teaching, although well-known, is still little used. However, its fundamental educational value is increasingly often emphasised, consisting of identifying real problems, shaping pro-active attitudes in students, and creating links between educational institutions and various types of external organisation. The article aims to present the challenges and benefits related to the teaching process in PBL based on the analysis of the LINCE project, implemented according to the same methodology simultaneously in Poland, Spain and Italy. Based on the results of the research and the literature review, recommendations are made regarding the possibility of broader use of PBL methodology in entrepreneurship education. The work is based on an exploratory research approach, using qualitative research methodology and case study technigue.

Opis:
Creativity is nothing but a mental process that entails the emergence of new ideas, concepts or new associations, links with existing ideas and concepts. Creative thinking is thinking that leads to original and appropriate solutions. In our dynamic and competitive world, designing a creative environment is a main goal and challenge for many companies and educational settings. Why is that so? Because it simply leads to the development of innovation and is existential for the well-being of the whole economy and civilization. One of the methods that contributes to the increase of creativity and the innovation level in education is the Project Based Learning (PBL) method. The aim of the study is to present creative methods in education based on PBL method using the example of the Smart-Up Lab (SUL) program organized by the consortium: Medical University in Lodz, Poland and EIT Health. PBL is a method of didactic work in which students implement the undertaking on the basis of assumptions established with the lecturer. At the beginning, goals and deadlines of work are set. The criteria for the assessment of individual work stages are clearly defined. The project’s task is most often performed in a group. After the end of the project, the results of students' work are presented to the public. During the implementation of the project, the lecturer acts as a coordinator and consultant - helps in making decisions regarding the division of tasks, supervises deadlines and assesses student performance by giving feedback. One of the examples using the Project Based Learning method is the Smart-Up Lab project. This project uses creativity and the PBL method to create innovative products, services and solutions to real-life challenges. This program has all features of a suitable teaching method in Science and may be a good example of the curriculum that may lead to the development of high-class specialists using creativity and innovative ideas in their everyday work.

The paper presents the first cohort of the innovative project “European Engineering Team”, which was conducted within the ERASMUS+ program. The innovativeness of the project lies in the cooperation of 4 European universities of technology and its project-based approach. Students participating in the EET project independently defined problem domains related to sustainability. The mobility attributed to regular ERASMUS+ initiatives was redefined. Students and supervisors had to travel frequently for short periods (4 week-long meetings), reflecting the actual needs and demands of a global labor market. Students cooperate virtually and attend classes in their regular courses at home universities between direct meetings. The goal of this project was to verify the effectiveness of the proposed approach to transnational and inter-university initiatives, utilizing blended learning. The goal was to develop student competencies in terms of sustainability, cooperation in transnational and geographically dispersed teams, who worked on multi-disciplinary problems utilizing knowledge from different domains. The approach was effective and most of the student competences improved throughout the project. However, some areas of possible improvement were defined and supervisors are focused on them during the ongoing second cohort of the EET.

The teaching of financial mathematics requires the proper selection of tasks that illustrate and supplement theoretical issues. One cannot miss out tasks arising from the practice of the operations on the financial markets. The students may choose such problems themselves and realize them in project mode with one or two partners as a team. The article shows the method of small projects that differs from the classic project based learning, known from the literature, by the scale of the project. The small project method allows one to use it as part of the coursework in financial mathematics, while the general project based learning cannot be applied due to the short time of the course. The article compares the classical project based learning with the proposed method of small projects and shows its implementation in teaching financial mathematics at University of Warsaw.

Opis:
The quality and content of English language courses offered in secondary schools require special attention as they affect many students who learn English as one of their school subjects. Despite curricular provisions prescribing balanced development of language competence and a number of so-called “key competences”, class work in Polish upper-secondary schools heavily focuses on developing students’ selected language skills and language systems, i.e. the areas that are tested during school-exit exams, neglecting civic competences (i.e. group work) and digital skills. It is suggested that technology-assisted project-based language learning can help remedy this situation. Accordingly, the aim of this article is to outline a class project that illustrates the integration of project-based learning approach in language (English) and content (Polish language and culture) learning, the execution of which necessitates collaboration in groups, as well as the use of technology. It is hoped that the presented project will provide inspiration and guidance on how to engage upper-secondary school students in meaningful project work so that the development of target competences can be facilitated.

The growing realization of the benefits to individual students and to state economies, of providing science learners with opportunities to expand their knowledge, skills and experience of knowledge-based technological design has led to seeking instructional strategies to facilitate the transition from traditional school settings to project based learning environments. This paper refers to engaging high school physics and computer-science majors in challenging design projects which seek to activate and implement the often inert formal content knowledge within the context of designing and constructing systems dealing with real world engineering challenges in robotics and electro-optics. In this paper we suggest that visualization of the problem space and guided exploration of its spatial relationships can promote the elicitation of relevant formal knowledge and lead to creative solution design. These methods are described in the context of designing and programming robot navigation and in the context of developing remote distance sensors.
