Opis:: The following study focuses on individual differences between musicians who play solo (performing individually or as leaders), and musicians performing as part of a chamber ensemble, band, choir, orchestra, etc. We predicted that soloists would be higher on grandiose narcissism and self-efficacy. The results showed that soloists (n = 59) not only were higher on narcissism, but also had higher self-efficacy scores than musicians who perform in ensembles (n = 65). However, soloist and band players are not different in narcissism and self-efficacy when the other trait is controlled, which indicates that common features of both traits differentiate solo and band musicians. Results raise further questions on what factors affect the development of a musician’s career path.

Opis:: Pracownik socjalny, wspierając klientów pomocy społecznej w procesie usamodzielniania i integracji społecznej, często wykonuje obowiązki służbowe z narażeniem własnego zdrowia (a czasami też życia). Nawet najlepiej przygotowani do zawodu pracownicy socjalni konfrontowani z realiami pomocy społecznej oraz oczekiwaniami zarówno pracodawcy, jak i podopiecznych mogą podjąć decyzję o odejściu z pracy. Celem badań była analiza przyczyn odejścia z zawodu pracownika socjalnego na podstawie doświadczeń wieloletniego pracownika miejskiego ośrodka pomocy społecznej. Skupiono się na diagnozie wypalenia zawodowego badanego przypadku oraz na czynnikach, które doprowadziły do jego rezygnacji z pracy w obszarze pomocy społecznej. Podjęty temat jest przedsięwzięciem trudnym analitycznie, stanowi pionierski obszar dociekań naukowych. Artykuł jako jeden z nielicznych porusza problematykę badań z obszaru decyzji zawodowych doświadczonych pracowników socjalnych w Polsce. Zaprezentowane badania pokazują, że zmieniające się realia gospodarcze i społeczne postawiły przed pracownikiem socjalnym wiele nowych wyzwań, co spowodowało potrzebę zrewidowania dotychczasowych motywacji i chęci kontynuowania pracy w zawodzie. Należy podkreślić, że wyniki zaprezentowanych analiz jakościowych nie pozwalają na wysuwanie na ich podstawie zbyt daleko idących wniosków i uogólnień.
A social worker, supporting social welfare clients in the process of empowerment and social integration, often performs professional duties at risk of his own health (and sometimes his life). Even the best-prepared social workers, confronted with the realities of social welfare and the expectations of both the employer and clients, may decide to leave their job. The purpose of the research was to analyze the reasons for leaving the profession of a social worker based on the experience of a long-term employee of the municipal social welfare center. The focus was on the diagnosis of burnout of the examined case and the factors that led to his resignation from work in the area of social assistance. The subject is analytically difficult, it is a pioneering area of scientific inquiry. The article is one of the few to address the issue of research in the area of professional decisions of experienced social workers in Poland. The research presented in the article shows that the changing economic and social realities have posed many new challenges for social worker, which has caused the need to revise the existing motivations and willingness to continue working in the profession. It should be emphasized that the results of the presented qualitative research do not allow one to make too far-reaching conclusions and generalizations.

Opis:: Purpose and problems: The purpose of this article is to investigate some challenges for working teachers and to present selected issues that are not always known and understood, but which concern one of the key problems of education: the profession of teaching. Research methods: In this article, the “teacher” aspect is examined in a comparative context: from the perspective of social, economic and political conditions. For this purpose, methods of comparative analysis relating to a number of indicators and information from an international perspective are used (based on a critical choice of data from different studies). This helps clarify some relationships that can be found. Structure of the article: The article consists of three parts. The first part focusses on inclusive education (here limited mainly to the inclusion of culturally and linguistically diverse students). The second addresses the financing of education and the work of the teacher (with a focus on student performance against this background), whilst the third part covers issues such as digital transformation and scientific capital. Research findings and their impact on the development of educational sciences: The information and theses presented herein allow one to look at the teaching profession in a way that is less pedagogical and more political or social. Results/recommendations: Firstly, the paper shows that many teachers are not well-prepared to teach students from different ethnic backgrounds, speaking foreign languages etc. A second, somewhat more widely discussed point is that teachers generally earn less than workers with similar education. Furthermore, in some cases, it is not always more funding for education or higher salaries for teachers that result in better student performance. Thirdly, teachers should keep up with the digital transformation and teaching needs connected with science capital.

Opis:: Przedmiot artykułu stanowią strategie doboru źródeł osobowych przez dziennikarzy. Celem jest określenie różnic w sposobach i kryteriach doboru osób reprezentujących tzw. autorytety poznawcze i ekspertów w świetle teorii P. Wilsona. Przeprowadzono badania opierające się na kwestionariuszu ankiety na grupie dziennikarzy związanych z obszarem kultury zatrudnionych w redakcjach radiowych, telewizyjnych oraz serwisach internetowych. W rezultacie przeprowadzonych badań określono ścieżki doboru autorytetów poznawczych i ekspertów na użytek pracy dziennikarskiej oraz wystosowano propozycję udoskonalenia tych procesów.
The focus of this article revolves around the strategies employed by journalists in selecting personal sources. The objective is to delineate variances in methodologies and criteria utilized for choosing individuals embodying cognitive authority and expertise, as per P. Wilson’s theoretical framework. Utilizing a questionnaire-based approach, the research was conducted among journalists specializing in cultural affairs across radio and television editorial departments as well as online platforms. The study delineates the pathways utilized in selecting cognitive authorities and experts for journalistic endeavors, offering insights into potential enhancements for these selection processes.

Opis:: The unregulated legal status of the speech and language therapy profession and speech and language therapy as an independent scientific discipline are reasons for significant differences in the way SLTs are educated in Poland. In order to find out the opinions of students and graduates of SLT studies (working in the profession) on academic education, the survey was conducted with 87 participants. Conducting the survey in the conditions of a pandemic situation also made it possible to assess distance forms of teaching and revealed disproportions in the level of satisfaction with practical and theoretical courses conducted in this form. The collected opinions form the basis for the reflections undertaken in the article on SLT and the possible and necessary changes in the system of training future SLTs.
Nieuregulowany status prawny zawodu logopedy oraz logopedii jako samodzielnej dyscypliny naukowej są przyczyną istotnych różnic w sposobie kształcenia logopedów w Polsce. W celu poznania opinii studentów i absolwentów studiów logopedycznych (pracujących w zawodzie) na temat kształcenia akademickiego przeprowadzono ankietę, w której wzięło udział 87 osób. Przeprowadzenie badania w warunkach sytuacji pandemicznej pozwoliło także na dokonanie oceny zdalnych form nauczania i wykazało dysproporcje w poziomie satysfakcji z zajęć praktycznych i teoretycznych prowadzonych w tej formule. Zgromadzone opinie stanowią podstawę do podjętych w artykule rozważań na temat logopedii oraz możliwych i potrzebnych zmian w systemie kształcenia przyszłych logopedów.

W artykule wykorzystano metodę analizy dokumentów zastanych – badań i komunikatów z badań.
Economic, historical and social changes affect the changing perception of the teaching profession in Poland and around the world. With the increase in the availability of education, changes in the educational system, the way future teachers are trained and society’s attitude towards the work done by teachers is changing. The purpose of the article is to analyse the changes taking place in the perception of the teaching profession, including an analysis of historical changes and social conditions, as well as a comparison of social research on the prestige of the teaching profession, its image and factors affecting satisfaction with the work performed by teachers. The main research method was desk research.

Opis:: The nature of compulsory membership in professional self-governments associating persons covered by the obligation of public trust is a fact that is questioned from time to time. Opponents of obligatory membership, however, find it difficult to argue for the identification of membership. According to art. 17 sec. 1 of the Constitution of the Republic of Poland, the basic opinion of professional self-governments is to supervise the proper performance of the profession by their members, which they do on behalf of the state, in the public interest. Therefore, in order to be able to fully perform this supervision, professional self-governments should be equipped with an authoritative function in relation to all persons covered by the profession on equal terms. The aim of the article is to justify the obligatory membership in the professional self-government using dogmatic and legal methods.
Charakter obowiązkowego członkostwa w samorządach zawodowych zrzeszających osoby wykonujące zawód zaufania publicznego jest faktem, który próbuje się co jakiś czas kwestionować. Przeciwnikom obligatoryjnego członkostwa trudno jednak wskazać argumenty przemawiające za dobrowolnym członkostwem. Zgodnie bowiem z art. 17 ust. 1 Konstytucji RP, podstawowym zdaniem samorządów jest sprawowanie pieczy nad należytym wykonywaniem zawodu przez swoich członków, co czynią w imieniu państwa, w interesie publicznym. Zatem, aby móc w pełni wykonywać ten nadzór samorządy muszą być wyposażone w uprawnienia władcze w stosunku do wszystkich osób wykonujących określony zawód na równych zasadach. Celem artykułu jest uzasadnienie obligatoryjnego członkostwa w samorządzie zawodowym, przy wykorzystaniu metody dogmatyczno-prawnej.

Opis:: The subject of the article is the types and characteristics of guarantees created to protect legal professional secrecy in the USA. It is inseparable from its character and role in the performance of the legal profession. The right to privacy is not without significance for the subject of the article, which is the fundamental value and the core of the relationship between the lawyer and the client. These guarantees are one of the most important factors in the legal protection of professional secrecy – crucial not only for the client, the lawyer himself, but also for the entire legal protection system. In particular, attention was paid to the main issues concerning legal secrecy in the Amendments to the US Constitution, which indirectly create a protective system for it.
Przedmiotem niniejszego artykułu są rodzaje oraz charakterystyka gwarancji stworzonych w celu ochrony prawniczej tajemnicy zawodowej w USA. Jest to nierozerwalnie związane z jej charakterem i rolą w wykonywaniu zawodu prawniczego. Nie bez znaczenia dla tematu artykułu jest prawo do prywatności, które stanowi podstawową wartość oraz trzon w relacji pomiędzy prawnikiem a klientem. Gwarancje, o których mowa są jednym z najważniejszych czynników ochrony prawnej tajemnicy zawodowej – kluczowej nie tylko dla klienta, samego prawnika, ale także dla całego systemu ochrony prawnej. Opis:: Teachers are among many educational entities. In this profession, it is worth paying special attention to its ethical dimension. This is dictated primarily by the specific nature of the educational activity of the representatives of this socio-professional category which includes, among others, interpersonal relationships with pupils and students. They are manifested in various educational situations, oft en complex and complicated, requiring the teacher to represent a high ethical level, consistent with the arrangements made in the field of professional ethics. This, in turn, taking into account its shape, may be perceived differently. The aim of this article is to attempt to present the ethics of the teaching profession from the point of view of the ethics of care. Understanding the ethics of the teaching profession as an ethics of care is rarely presented in the literature on the subject. Most often, teaching ethics is associated with a set of specific ethical conditions or moral virtues, somewhat reducing the importance of the category of care in this ethics. Hence, the main research problem revolves around the questions: What are the characteristics of the ethical dimension of a teacher’s professional work and what does care and ethics of care mean in the teaching profession? The adopted research method was the analysis of the literature on the subject and of articles published in scientific journals, concerning the research issues being undertaken. The presented text discusses the ethical dimension of a teacher’s professional work from a normative perspective, in particular from the point of view of the ethics of duty and the ethics of virtue, and then the category of care and the ethics of care with its relation to the teacher’s professional activity. The analysis of the literature on the subject leads to the belief that in contemporary scientific explorations consistent with ethical and pedeutological thought, greater emphasis should be placed on the ethics of care in the teaching profession, as well as the possibility of contamination of the ethics of care and the ethics of justice. All this can serve to optimally practice the teaching profession in ethical terms.
Wśród wielu podmiotów edukacji wymienia się nauczyciela. W zawodzie uprawianym przez niego warto zwrócić szczególną uwagę na wymiar etyczny. Podyktowane jest to przede wszystkim specyficznym charakterem aktywności edukacyjnej przedstawicieli tej kategorii społeczno-zawodowej, w którą wpisane są między innymi relacje interpersonalne z uczniami-wychowankami. Manifestują się one w różnorodnych sytuacjach edukacyjnych, niejednokrotnie złożonych i skomplikowanych, wymagających od nauczyciela reprezentowania wysokiego poziomu etycznego, zgodnego z ustaleniami poczynionymi na gruncie etyki zawodowej. Ta z kolei, biorąc pod uwagę jej kształt, może być różnie postrzegana. Celem podejmowanych w niniejszym artykule rozważań jest próba ukazania etyki zawodu nauczyciela z punktu widzenia etyki troski. Ujmowanie etyki zawodu nauczyciela jako etyki troski rzadko eksponowane jest na gruncie literatury przedmiotu. Najczęściej etykę nauczycielską kojarzy się z zespołem określonych obwarowań etycznych bądź cnót moralnych, umniejszając nieco rangi kategorii troski w tej etyce. Stąd też główny problem badawczy oscyluje wokół pytań: Czym charakteryzuje się wymiar etyczny pracy zawodowej nauczyciela oraz co oznacza troska i etyka troski w zawodzie nauczyciela. Jako metodę badawczą przyjęto analizę literatury przedmiotu zarówno zwartą, jak również artykułów zamieszczonych w czasopismach naukowych, dotyczącą podejmowanej problematyki badawczej. W przedstawionym tekście kolejno zaprezentowano: wymiar etyczny pracy zawodowej nauczyciela z perspektywy normatywnej, w szczególności z punktu widzenia etyki powinności i etyki cnoty, a następnie kategorię troski oraz etykę troski wraz z odniesieniem jej do aktywności zawodowej nauczyciela. Przeprowadzona analiza literatury przedmiotu skłania do przekonania, że we współczesnych eksploracjach naukowych wpisujących się w myśl etyczno-pedeutologiczną należy położyć większy nacisk na etykę troski w zawodzie nauczyciela, a także ewentualną możliwość kontaminacji etyki troski i etyki sprawiedliwości. Wszystko to służyć może optymalnemu uprawianiu zawodu nauczyciela pod względem etycznym.

Opis:: The study presents theoretical starting points and research approaches dedicated to the teaching profession in an international context. It provides interesting insights into the relationship between teachers’ workload and their life satisfaction. The research presented in this study is focused on primary and pre-primary teachers. The authors present the results of a theoretical survey of the current studies and identify the intents of the research objective. They plan to expand the research objective to include a comparison of cross-cultural data between teachers from Slovakia, Poland and the Czech Republic. The findings are intended to provide valuable knowledge and inspiration for improving the working conditions of teachers. In addition, they can contribute to the innovation of undergraduate teacher education and lifelong teacher education programs. The current international research is aimed to find out how teachers in the early stages of children’s education, i.e. teachers of primary and pre-primary education, manage the demands of their profession through the lens of their specific professional activities. Subsequently, the obtained results are compared with the feeling of satisfaction in their life. The aim of this research is to provide an international comparison of teachers from Slovakia, Poland and the Czech Republic.

Opis:: The Code of Ethics for Veterinary Surgeons (the Code), as a legal act of the selfgovernment within the profession in which the public repose confidence, should not go beyond the limits set by Article 17 of the Polish Constitution. Under this provision, the self-governments in professions of public confidence are to represent the practitioners and concern themselves with the proper practice of those professions in accordance with, and for the purpose of protecting, the public interest. Moreover, since the Code is a normative regulation of internal nature, it should be drawn up in line with the principles of legislative drafting and may not infringe the acts of universally binding law. The aim of this paper is to find out whether the Code conforms to the above assumptions. Special attention is drawn to the relations between the Code and the practice of the veterinary profession. The compliance of the Code with the Polish Constitution and other legal issues relating to the Code are also discussed. The paper concludes with proposed amendments that should be introduced to the Code.

Opis:: The Code of Conduct for European Lawyers, adopted by the Council of Bars and Law Societies of Europe (CCBE), purports to be adopted as enforceable rules in relation to the cross-border activities of the lawyers. The object of this article is to examine whether the Code is a binding act for attorneys at law and attorneys. The professional self-governments have recognised the Code as a binding act for their members, but the analysis leads to the conclusion that there is no basis for this in Polish law. Furthermore, the Code is not an internal act within the meaning of Article 93 of the Polish Constitution. This means that neither attorneys at law nor attorneys can be held disciplinarily liable for breaches of the Code. In order to ensure the effectiveness of the provisions of the Code, they should be included in the professional codes of ethics of these professional self-governments.
Kodeks Etyki Prawników Europejskich, przyjęty przez Radę Adwokatur i Stowarzyszeń Prawniczych Europy, zakłada związanie nim prawników prowadzących działalność transgraniczną. Przedmiotem artykułu jest zbadanie tego, czy Kodeks jest aktem wiążącym radców prawnych i adwokatów. Samorządy zawodowe tych prawników uznały Kodeks za akt wiążący ich członków, jednak analiza prowadzi do wniosku, że w polskim prawie nie ma do tego podstaw. Co więcej, Kodeks nie jest aktem wewnętrznym w rozumieniu art. 93 Konstytucji RP. Oznacza to, że radcowie prawni ani adwokaci nie mogą odpowiadać dyscyplinarnie za naruszenie Kodeksu. Aby zapewnić skuteczność przepisom tego aktu, powinny one zostać uwzględnione w kodeksach etyki zawodowej wskazanych samorządów.

Opis:: Wprowadzenie: Zadowolenie z pracy stanowi funkcję zaspokojenia potrzeb pracownika i zależy od jego indywidualnych oczekiwań zawodowych i motywów wyboru zawodu oraz stopnia, w jakim zostały one zrealizowane w określonej sytuacji pracy (Bera, 2008). Indywidualne potrzeby motywujące do wyboru zawodu nauczyciela stanowią więc istotny czynnik określający, w jakim stopniu obecnie wykonywana praca jest dla nich korzystna. Jest to typowa reakcja psychiczna na sytuację zawodową, wyrażona poprzez afektywne reakcje i oceny poznawcze (Bańka, 2000). Satysfakcja z pracy odgrywa dużą rolę w rozwoju zawodowym nauczycieli, ich efektywnym działaniu oraz daje im poczucie jakości życia. Cel badań: Celem badań było określenie zależności między motywami wyboru zawodu a zadowoleniem z pracy nauczycieli. Metoda badań: W badaniu posłużono się metodą sondażu diagnostycznego, techniką ankiety oraz kwestionariuszem ankiety. Do analizy materiału badawczego zastosowano elementy statystyki opisowej i korelacyjnej (współczynnik korelacji liniowej rho-Spearmana). Wyniki: Problematyka zależności zadowolenia z pracy od motywów wyboru zawodu stanowi przedmiot niniejszych analiz empirycznych. Uzyskane wyniki badań potwierdzają w pełni przyjęte założenie o istotnej zależności między tymi zmiennymi. Wnioski: Wybierając zawód nauczyciela, osoby kierują się głównie motywacją wewnętrzną, a więc osobistymi zainteresowaniami, chęcią pracy z dziećmi i młodzieżą, swoistym powołaniem pedagogicznym. Dla znacznej części nauczycieli istotnym motywem jest też dogodny czas pracy nauczyciela oraz pewność zatrudnienia gwarantowana prawem. Tak ukształtowana struktura motywów wewnętrznych w zasadniczy sposób określa obecnie satysfakcję nauczycieli z wykonywanego zawodu.
Introduction: Job satisfaction is a function of meeting the employee’s needs and depends on his individual professional expectations and motives for choosing a profession and the extent to which they have been fulfilled in a specific work situation. Thus, individual needs motivating the choice of the teaching profession are an important factor determining the extent to which the current work is beneficial for them. Thus, it is a typical psychological reaction to a professional situation, expressed through affective reactions and cognitive assessments. Job satisfaction plays an important role in the professional development of teachers, their effective performance and gives them a sense of quality of life. Research Aim: The aim of the research was to determine the relationship between the motives for choosing a profession and teachers’ job satisfaction. Method: The study used the method of diagnostic survey, survey technique and questionnaire. Elements of descriptive and correlation statistics (rho-Spearman linear correlation coefficient) were used for the analysis of the research material. Results: The issue of the dependence of job satisfaction on the motives for choosing a profession is the subject of these empirical analyses. The obtained research results confirm the fully adopted assumption of a significant relationship between these variables. Conclusions: When choosing the profession of a teacher, people are guided mainly by internal motivation, i.e. personal interests, willingness to work with children and youth, a specific pedagogical vocation. For a significant number of teachers, an important motive is also the teacher’s convenient working time and job security guaranteed by law. The structure of internal motives shaped in this way fundamentally determines teachers’ satisfaction with their profession.

Opis:: Prowadzone badania miały sprawdzić, jak w typowym dla południowej Małopolski środowisku uczniowskim postrzegana bywa praca policji. Wyniki badań pokazują, że młodzież raczej negatywnie ocenia pracę policji, co niewątpliwie nie wystawia tej formacji wysokiej oceny moralnej. Prowadzone badania nie przesądzają o tym, że tak się dzieje w całej Polsce, ale sygnalizują, że dobrze by było ów wizerunek zmienić bądź nieco poprawić, gdyż policja może się przecież pochwalić niewątpliwymi sukcesami w walce z przestępczością. To, jak młodzi ludzie postrzegają pracę policji, nie pozostanie bez wpływu na dobór kadry policji w przyszłości. Jeżeli przekaz o pracy policji będzie negatywny, to trafią tam ludzie niepewni, szukający mocnych wrażeń i niekoniecznie przekonani o dobrym wyborze zawodu. Jeśli przekaz będzie pozytywny, to zawód policjanta wybiorą jednostki silnie zmotywowane do tego charakteru służby, chcące pomagać społeczeństwu. Kluczem do większej wykrywalności przestępstw i lepszej pracy policji jest jej wizerunek w oczach społeczeństwa, a szczególnie młodzieży, która w niedługim czasie stanie przed problemem podejmowania decyzji zawodowych.
The research conducted was meant to check how the police work is perceived by a student environment typical for southern Lesser Poland. The results indicate that young people perceive the police work rather negatively, which certainly does not give this force any high moral evaluation. The research done is not indicative for the whole Poland, but indicates that it would be better to change that image, because police does surely achieve success in fighting against crime. The way young people perceive the police work will have an impact on police personnel selection in the future. If the message about the police work is negative, these forces will be strenghtened by people who are uncertain, look for more excitement and are not necessarily convinced that they made a good career choice. If the message is positive, the police profession will be chosen by strong individuals, motivated to such type of duty, willing to help the society. A key to better crime detection and better police work is the image of police in the eyes of the society, especially of young people who are about to take professional decisions.

Opis:: In the area of deliberations undertaken in the field of teacher studies, issues related to teacher professionalism should occupy their due place. This is dictated above all by the specific nature of the teacher’s work, which takes place in the conditions of a complex and dynamically changing social reality, a constitutive element of which is educational reality. This imposes on teachers the need to present an above-average level of knowledge, skills, competences, or, in other words, a high level of professionalism in the professional activity undertaken in its individual dimensions. The aim of the considerations presented in this article is to explore the issue of teacher professionalism, for which the teaching profession and the professionalization of the teaching profession are a starting point. A reflection on this category may contribute to thorough studies and analyses touching on this rudimentary issue, both on the theoretical level and on the level of conducting empirical research, which in turn may result in the enrichment of modern knowledge about the teacher and his or her profession.
W obszarze rozważań podejmowanych w obrębie studiów o nauczycielu właściwe sobie miejsce powinny znaleźć kwestie oscylujące wokół nauczycielskiego profesjonalizmu. Podyktowane jest to przede wszystkim specyficznym charakterem pracy nauczyciela, która przebiega w warunkach złożonej, a zarazem dynamicznie zmieniającej się rzeczywistości społecznej, której konstytutywnym elementem jest rzeczywistość edukacyjna. Nakłada to na nauczycieli konieczność prezentowania ponadprzeciętnego poziomu wiedzy, umiejętności, kompetencji, inaczej biorąc wysokiego stopnia fachowości w podejmowanej profesjonalnej aktywności w poszczególnych jej wymiarach. Celem zaprezentowanych w artykule rozważań jest próba eksploracji zagadnienia profesjonalizmu nauczycielskiego, dla którego punktem wyjścia jest profesja nauczycielska i profesjonalizacja zawodu nauczycielskiego. Namysł nad tą kategorią stanowić może przyczynek do gruntownych studiów i analiz oscylujących wokół tej rudymentarnej kwestii zarówno na płaszczyźnie teoretycznej, jak i prowadzenia badań empirycznych, co z kolei może skutkować wzbogaceniem współczesnej wiedzy o nauczycielu i jego zawodzie.
