Opis:
Productivity is considered to be a most essential factor of economic growth. Its increase leads to quality improvement of goods and services delivered on the market; it raises production effectiveness and enhances competitiveness. The concept of productivity is essentially bound with the systemic approach in the research of economic phenomena and of enterprises. The essence of feeding, transformation and output constitutes the basis for analysing the transformation of available resources into products and estimating the effectiveness of this process. Both productivity research and systemic analysis itself are complex subjects depending on the specificity of the enterprise, the scope of analysis or the purposefulness of research. The systemic approach assumes particular significance now, at the time of transformation towards information society (society of knowledge), where information is starting to play the role of the predominating resource. The present study focuses on problems of system identification and specificity of its functioning in the context of productivity research.

Utilization of sewage sludge during phytoremediation of territories and its introduction as fertilizer for energy crops requires testing for phytotoxicity of the soil cover, which will allow determining an ecologically safe dose of its use and minimizing the negative impact on agroecosystems. It will also contribute to the formation of optimal productivity of agrophytocenoses as well as optimize the nutrition conditions for intensive growth and development of cultivated plants. The research conducted an analysis of the impact of the increase in phytotoxicity of sod-podzolic soil from the introduction of fresh sewage sludge and its composts with various organic materials (sawdust of coniferous trees, straw of grain crops) on the formation of biomass productivity of energy willow during a repeated cycle of cultivation. Regression and correlation analyses were used to build a mathematical model of biomass productivity under the influence of changes in the phytotoxicity of podzol soil due to repeated introduction of sewage sludge under the energy willow. The obtained regression dependences show that the formation of phytotoxicity of sod-podzolic soil is most affected by the increase in the content of Pb and Cd. However, the introduction of the norm of fresh SS within 80 t/ha did not lead to an increase in the content of these heavy metals above the maximum allowable concentrations, although it contributed to an increase in phytotoxicity to an above average level. The maximum predicted productivity, depending on the content of mobile forms of heavy metals in the soil, is about 60 t/ha at a content of Cd = 0.25; Ni = 1.1 Pb = 4.6 mg/kg soil. As the phytotoxicity of the soil increases to an above-average level (phytotoxic effect 40–46%), the intensity of biomass accumulation of energy willow slows down somewhat. In general, after a repeated cycle of using the plantation during the 4-year growing season of energy willow in all options where fertilizers were applied, the productivity of wood biomass increased significantly compared to the control option by 7.7–17.4 t/ha and with the smallest significant difference between the indicators of the research options 4.23 t/ha.

Labour productivity is a key factor of economic growth and change in living standards and plays an important role as a measure of the competitiveness of countries. Both the increase and decrease in productivity affects the functioning of all forms of economic activity. The lack of awareness of this fact may have a negative effect on the fate of investments. This is particularly evident in the case of industrial companies. The purpose of this article was to examine the external and internal determinants defining performance in Poland and the analysis and evaluation of selected countries. The period under research was 2001–2014, although at times this time period was extended to earlier years or shortened, depending on the availability of data. Analysis of theoretical and empirical research results both for EU and OECD countries has shown that awareness of the direction in which productivity is moving, is essential for the functioning of national economies. Productivity can be moulded, so it is important to understand that it is dependent on the conditions offered by the employer. It is difficult to explicitly specify its degree of impact. Any change positive or negative experienced by employees will have a larger or smaller effect on productivity. In the analysed period, it was found that there is a high productivity in Poland; however, this is not equivalent to high value of goods produced by workers. Despite the apparent significant improvement in the indicators since 1989, Poland has a long way to go before levelling with the richest countries in the European Union and the OECD

Opis:
The paper analyzes the influence of labor productivity on employment in various branches of Poland’s manufacturing sector in 1993-2007. The author attempts to determine if changes in labor productivity and employment were substitutive or complementary in nature and whether the relationship between these processes was stable or liable to change. The analysis, using the Pearsoncorrelation coefficient (which measures the strength of the linear relationship between two variables), shows that the relationship between labor productivity and employment turned from substitutive to complementary and that an improvement in labor productivity had no distinct impact on employment in the short term, while in the long term it promoted an increase in employment. The relationship between labor productivity and employment varied because the ways in which labor productivity improved tended to change. In the 1990s institutional changes led to an improvement in labor productivity, including the introduction of market economy mechanisms, privatization and greater competition in the wake of opening the economy. At the time the simplest method was used: employment reductions. With time this option petered out and companies began to improve labor productivity (and competitiveness) by investing, modernizing their fixed assets, and introducing product rather than process innovations. This had a favorable influence on employment, the author says.

Opis:
The authors set out to determine if the convergence theory passes the test in 25 transition economies. On the basis of statistical data for the years 1991-2004, using an econometric model, they analyze the influence of GDP per employee on the growth of labor productivity. They also consider other factors with an influence on sustainable economic growth. Considering the significant heterogeneity of the analyzed economies in terms of market reforms and institutional conditions, the authors divided the sample into three relatively homogenous groups: 10 new European Union member states excluding Cyprus and Malta; 12 CIS countries; and five Southern and Eastern European economies. The authors evaluated conditional convergence in individual groups of economies, concluding that economies with lower GDP per employee at the start of transition were characterized by a higher rate of growth for most of the analyzed period. GDP per employee primarily depended on investment in physical and human capital, the share of government spending in GDP and inflation. Moreover, the analysis showed that convergence processes in individual countries led to converging long-term economic growth rates, which were positive rather than neutral, contrary to the classic convergence theory.

In the systemic approach, a production company is a complex system of objects and relations between the objects, as well as between the system and its surroundings. The large number of variables and company performance assessment indicators result in the constant search for the methods of formalising the mutual dependencies. The discipline which, through the integration of multiple processes, enables the discovery of practical solutions is logistics engineering. In Poland, the term is not very common, while in the USA (for example), logistics engineering – taking advantage of mathematical methods and cutting edge science, is a widely used tool supporting the everyday business activities of companies. The article describes primary tasks of logistics engineering in relation to production companies. Furthermore, original algorithms for the improvements of company productivity are presented.

This study was carried out in a clothing company to determine the parameters that influence the decline in production. The results showed that the parameter "Machine failures" had a 34.6% effect on production, and "lack of versatility" 19.7%, while the parameter "heavy launch" had an effect of 17.1%, "lack of supplies" 9%, touch-ups 3%, and "lack of cut parts" 2%. Indeed, the application of lean and six sigma tools and especially the D.M.A.I.C and TPM methods are two tools that improve efficiency and productivity in a production workshop. Thus, a grid was developed to monitor and maintain the effectiveness of improvement actions and for the continuity of the spirit of improvement within the production department without forgetting that teamwork makes it possible to improve the result.

Opis:
Solutions of Industry 4.0 cover more and more areas of the economy. In logistics, digitization applies to each of the functional areas. Introducing IT solutions in logistics leads to an increase in the reliability of communication, faster stock rotation, and a higher level of service. It enables higher work efficiency and overall productivity. Changes in work productivity in three warehouses as a result of the implementation of a WMS class system and accompanying necessary changes in the equipment and organiza tion of warehouse space was analysed in this work. The source of data for the analysis was the measurement of labour productivity for 12 months: three months before the implementation of the WMS and nine after its implementation. Work productivity after the implementation of the WMS increased by 40% compared to the level before it. The period of introducing WMS and obtaining an increase in personnel productivity was at least six months. Labour productivity in the analysed period increased in each month of the analysis. Only one of the three warehouses showed stabilization of workforce productivity at a level 50% higher than before the implementation. The research results confirm that the presence of WMS in the warehouse makes it possible to reach a significant increase in work productivity in warehouses.

Opis:
This article attempts to assess the productivity and competitiveness of the agricultural sector in Poland. The data used in the article were provided by Polish FADN (Farm Accountancy Data Network) and the Central Statistical Office, which makes them a representative and reliable source of information on agriculture in Poland. Studies have shown that the agricultural sector in Poland is characterised by low productivity, especially of small and medium-sized farms prevailing in Poland, as well as low internal competitiveness measured by the share of the national agricultural sector in generating GDP. Studies have shown, on the other hand, that the situation of the sector is relatively well presented in terms of the external competitiveness represented by its share in exports.

In the view of many people, understandably, and all too many economists, disgracefully, the minimum wage law actually boosts compensation for people who would otherwise earn less than the amount established by this legislation. This is a snare and a delusion. In actual point of fact, this law increases the wages of no one at all, at least not in equilibrium; rather it leads to unemployment for those workers unfortunate to have a marginal revenue product below the level mandated by this enactment. It is the burden of the present paper to make good on this claim.

This paper studies the determinants of the total factor productivity (TFP) for Ukrainian firms in the manufacturing sector across macro-regions using recent micro-level datasets for 2013. Our empirical results show some degree of heterogeneity across Ukrainian macro-regions; in particular, the link between the total factor productivity, firm size, imports and the level of competition seems to be valid for all macro regions. However, the effects of private ownership status, capital intensity and exports seems to be region specific. In addition, we found no relationship between firm productivity and foreign ownership for any of the regions.

Since the concept of Performance Based was first proposed in Australia, in 1997, by the then National Road Transport Commission, several hundred vehicles that used these new ‘engineering standards’ were commissioned, between 1998 and 2006, under State based permit systems. In 2006 a more formalized regulatory PBS framework was put in place and since that time the population of PBS vehicles has expanded to nearly some 7000 units by early 2018. However, even though the Australian PBS ‘trial’ is now some twenty years old, there are still many major national road networks that are yet to have access granted for these vehicles, and still an endemic perception remains that ‘bigger vehicles are bad’. In 2014 and 2017 two comprehensive studies were conducted that statistically proved PBS vehicles to be significantly safer, more productive and environmentally friendlier than the conventional Australian heavy truck fleet. This paper specifically examines the safety and productivity aspects of the Australian PBS fleet over the period 2009 – 2016 which confirms the safety and operator benefits of these vehicles.
