Opis:
Value Stream Mapping has been a key Lean tool since its publication in 1988, offering a strategic view on the reconfiguration of an organization’s processes to reduce overall lead time. It has since been used in many different domains beyond (car) manufacturing. However, the potential offered by its concise representation of both material flow and its controlling information flow seems to have been largely underused. Most literature reports on VSM in the context of waste detection and local improvements. VSM also supports redesigning the material flow (even on a supply chain level) towards (pure) pull systems. However, it fails to adequately give guidance on how to gradually evolve towards this ultimate ideal state. This paper wants to offer a significant contribution to practitioners on how to use VSM to bridge this gap. Another key challenge that remains largely unpublished is how to adapt the planning systems accordingly at each reconfiguration of the material flow. This paper presents extensions to the basic VSM tool to meet these challenges. It includes a more comprehensive 5-level hierarchy that allows to position most lean flow-related techniques. It also extends the basic “door-to-door” VSM with new symbols to accommodate these techniques into the map. Finally, it introduces a new set of 13 questions to support redesigning not only the material flow, but also the information flow. The resulting richer future state maps better support the gradual evolution towards a leaner future shop floor, as illustrated with an example.

Opis:
Today, manufacturing companies strive to find the stability between satisfying their customers by producing in accordance with their expectations (quantity and quality) and keeping leading positions when it comes to competitiveness on their markets. This paper aims to compare two very well-known philosophies in the manufacturing industry: Lean Manufacturing (LM) and Six Sigma (6S). The integration of these two philosophies solves the insufficiency that the absence of one of them causes, considering that Six Sigma is based on statistical tools that focus on measuring and reducing variations in processes and achieving goals set by the customers' requirements. Lean Manufacturing focuses mainly on the value added for a client, for example,by eliminating all kinds of waste from processes what leads to the reduction of time and cost of the process. Lean Six Sigma combines the features of both methods, which means that it meets the client's requirements based on statistical knowledge and the process flow control, but simultaneously in addition to that, it reduces the time and cost of the processes. As a result, it gives manufacturing companies the possibility of having loyal and satisfied customers and who provide companies with new customers. This paper has a greater goal of persuading the Angolan manufacturing industries to implement the Integrated Lean Six Sigma (IL6S) into their production and management processes.

Opis:
Background: Inventory control is essential for a manufacturer to achieve the desired profit in successful supply chain management. This paper deals with the production-inventory system under the decrease in production rate. The model includes three stages: before the decrease in production, after the decrease in production, and after a period of inventory shortage. Throughout the stages, the stochastic inventory model is always affected by random factors and the deterioration of inventory quality. Method: The article uses the economic order quantity (EOQ) framework to evaluate costs in the production-inventory model. To optimize the manufacturer’s profit with the stochastic factor, Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman (HJB) equation is presented to find the production rate to make the inventory model to guarantee its intended goals in a determined cycle. Result: Analytical solutions are provided for optimization of the stochastic production-inventory model. Numerical experiments show that inventory level, production rate, and profit over time are based on the optimal initial value of the production rate. Conclusion: The manufacturer’s profit comes from the stages of importing raw materials, processing and producing, storing and supplying items. Finding the initial value of the production rate can make the inventory level and production rate to ensure their desired value and get the target profit within a specified time.

Opis:
The article is to present the application of genetic algorithm in production scheduling in a production company. In the research work the assumptions of the methodology were described and the operation of the proposed genetic algorithm was presented in details. Genetic algorithms are useful in complex large scale combinatorial optimisation tasks and in the engineering tasks with numerous limitations in the production engineering. Moreover, they are more reliable than the existing direct search algorithms. The research is focused on the effectivity improvement and on the methodology of scheduling of a manufacturing cell work. The genetic algorithm used in the work appeared to be robust and fast in finding accurate solutions. It was shown by experiment that using this method enables obtaining schedules suitable for a model. It gives a group of solutions that are at least as good as those created by the heuristic rules.

A problem of optimization for production and storge costs is studied. The problem consists in manufacture of n types of products, with some given restrictions, so that the total production and storage costs are minimal. The mathematical model is built using the framework of driftless control affine systems. Controllability is studied using Lie geometric methods and the optimal solution is obtained with Pontryagin Maximum Principle. It is proved that the economical system is not controllable, in the sense that we can only produce a certain quantity of products. Finally, some numerical examples are given with graphical representation.

The paper addresses the problem of forecasting in manufacturing systems. The main aim of the research is to propose new hybrid forecasting models combining artificial intelligencebased methods with traditional techniques based on time series – namely: Hybrid econometric model, Hybrid artificial neural network model, Hybrid support vector machine model and Hybrid extreme learning machine model. The study focuses on solving the problem of limited access to independent variables. Empirical verification of the proposed models is built upon real data from the three manufacturing system areas – production planning, maintenance and quality control. Moreover, in the paper, an algorithm for the forecasting accuracy assessment and optimal method selection for industrial companies is introduced. It can serve not only as an efficient and costless tool for advanced manufacturing companies willing to select the right forecasting method for their particular needs but also as an approach supporting the initial steps of transformation towards smart factory and Industry 4.0 implementation.

Opis:
Requirements regarding the quality and full traceability of delivered products in some industrial sectors, such as the food, pharmaceutical and automotive industries, where the life and health of the end user depends on the quality of the product, cause production flow control systems (PFC) to become an important element of the functioning of production enterprises. PFC systems are IT systems that are generally used for recording production data (in a database) at various stages of industrial processes, mainly from PLC controllers (in this respect they perform the function of traceability systems, that enable tracking products), but also provide blocking of identifiable products, which were incorrectly processed during earlier stages of production or follow wrong technology sequence. The desirable feature of such systems is their flexibility, which is characterised by their scalability and configurability. Configurability is the ability to include different processes into the PFC system in a relatively short time. The concept of a configurable system must be well considered and different material flow cases must be taken into account to avoid future dramatic changes in the IT system. Scalability is the ability to include more and more processes under control of the PFC system without the significant impact on its effectiveness. The PFC systems use computer networks to process production data, so the scalability of PFC systems depends on their modular architecture in the network. The article discusses basic features and possible PFC architectures, as well as two examples of configurable PFC systems along with their analysis and assessment. The described systems are the result of projects in which the author of this article participated, the aim of which was to develop and launch a flexible PFC system that meets the basic industrial requirements from the area of discrete manufacturing.

In this paper the method of improving production control in engineer to order [ETO] small and medium sized enterprises is presented. Briefly, the strategy of Mass Customization [MC] and a concept of the hybrid MC-ETO production system are demonstrated. Thereafter, a method of choosing components for small batch manu-facturing in advance, under conditions of single unit ETO production system, with application of fuzzy logic is described. This approach can be used in ETO companies during their transition into the hybrid MC-ETO production systems. The research was done in a collaboration with experts from the real ETO pro-duction system, in Polish SME, which manufactures mechanical parts.

Opis:
In mid-1992, Japanese consultant Yamada Hitoshi was tasked with modifying the production systems of Japanese companies as the existing configurations at manufacturing plants no longer satisfied unstable demands. He made improvements to the overall production system by dividing the long assembly lines into several short ones called cells or seru. Although of the advantages, it is still unclear about how to manage this new production system, and what variables really promoted the desired benefits. We identify in total 39 articles from 2004– 2020 about the progress of the seru production system, and we observe some possibilities to improve the effectiveness of this type of the production system. The first is the possibility of manufacturing the product in flexible sequence, in which the operations are independent among them. We show through the developed example that the makespan may be different. We noted when converting the in-line production system to one pure seru, the makespan tend to increase. Nevertheless, when analyzing the effectiveness of serus working concomitantly considering splitting the same lot, makespan and the cost may be reduced. And finally, when converting to one of pure serus, the performance may be similar to that obtained when serus working concomitantly.

The theoretical aim of the paper is to analyses the main function and concept of production control in operation management. The empirical aim of the paper is to investigate polish production firm opinion about factors affecting production planning and control and also functions of production planning and control. Production control is very important in every factory, and every aspect of operation and production management especially in times of Industry 4.0 conditions. In the paper we presented all classical seven task of production management control. Also there is in the paper an analysis of main factors affecting production control in industrial organization. In the paper we analysed the problems connected with production control. Nowadays in the conditions of Industry 4.0 this is very important concept because the increasing level of digitalization of all industrial processes leads to possibility of detailed analysis of all processes and better level of control. Operation managers should have good level of knowledge about production control and especially quality control. They can use in this many new information tools like statistical methods and artificial intelligence. Especially we think that in the future many function of production control would be assisted by artificial intelligence. We also in the paper give results of research conducted on example of 30 polish production organizations located in Silesia region.

Background: Experience from the implementation of the industry 4.0 concept has proved that the key success factor is the use of techniques and methods of artificial intelligence. One of these techniques is artificial neural networks. The development of artificial neural networks has been taking placefor a long time and has led to a number of important applications of this technique in industrial practice. Along with the development of practical applications, a wide theoretical base has also been created regarding the concepts, tools and principles of using this technique. Methods: This paper contains an attempt to use the theoretical basis of artificial neural networks to build a specialized tool. This tool is called a pseudo-network. It is based not on the whole of the theory of artificial neural networks but only on the targeted elements selected for it. The selection criterion is the use of an artificial neural pseudo-network to control production. Results: The paper presents the assumptions of an artificial neural pseudo-network, the architecture of the developed solution and initial experience of using it. Conclusions: These initial results proved the assumptions made by an author. The architecture of the pseudo-network has been developed. Work to build a system demonstrator representing the artificial neural pseudo-network have been initiated and is still in progress.
