Opis:
The article aims to present the syndromes of Problematic Internet Use in relation to activities undertaken in this area by parents and teachers. The study of the PUI phenomenon is particularly relevant in today's educational reality due to the increased participation of remote education in school practice. The cooperation of parents and teachers in supporting students in the process of effective and safe use of the internet is a priority challenge today.

Opis:
The aim of the presented research was to adapt the Test of Problematic Using of the Internet (TPUI) for a group of people with mild intellectual disability and offer a preliminary analysis of its psychometric properties. The TPUI is an instrument that allows the measurement of problematic Internet use. Problematic Internet use is defined as “excessive involvement in the use of certain Internet applications (mainly related to interactivity) with clear features of addictive behaviour, causing psychological, social and health problems” (Poprawa, 2011a, p. 217). The TPUI was subjected to psychometric verification in research involving 178 students with mild intellectual disability. Considering the diverse aetiology of intellectual disability, adolescents diagnosed with a genetic syndrome and adolescents with multiple disabilities were excluded from the study. Firstly, the analysis focused on descriptive statistics and distribution. Subsequently, exploratory, reliability and confirmatory analyses were applied. Finally, instrument standardisation was performed. The preliminary results lead to the conclusion that the Test of Problematic Using of the Internet is probably an instrument allowing a reliable and accurate measurement of problematic use of the Internet among adolescents with mild intellectual disability. Confirmation of these conclusions requires conducting further analyses on a sufficiently large group of students.

Opis:
The purpose of this paper is to point out the opportunities and pitfalls of the virtual environment for children and young people. We start with the analysis of a technocratic paradigm which emphasizes a utilitarian view of the world. Technology companies not only seek to improve the design and ergonomics of their products, they also influence their products to shape people’s intentions and habits. Children and young people face the risk of digitalisation on everyday basis. Undoubtedly, technology has a positive impact on young people. In this paper, we list positives such as developing technical and creative skills, collaborating on projects, global connectivity and more. However, the Australian Psychological Society has proposed to recognize a Problematic Internet Use (PIU) as a legitimate diagnosis—Internet addiction disorder. In addition, digital world represents other risks such as cyberbullying, cyber acquaintances, sexual abuse and many more. We also provide advice to parents on how to protect their children from possible dangers of the virtual world.

Opis:
The term “problematic Internet use” (PIU) refers to excessive online activities and is a major social concern. Despite various sociological, psychological, and interdisciplinary studies, the risk factors related to PIU remain unclear. As psychological traits are associated with online behavior, they are often seen as potential risk factors of PIU. However, the dark personality traits (which include narcissism, Machiavellianism, and psychopathy) and their relation to problematic Internet use are only partially recognized. These traits are commonly known as the Dark Triad, and even though they have been widely researched their structure is still under discussion. This study investigates both the structure of the Dark Triad and the triad’s relation to PIU. A total of 384 participants were surveyed by online questionnaire. Our results suggest that the 3-component structure of the dark traits may be more suitable for research into online activity than a dark dyad. Moreover, the Dark Triad traits are related to high PIU levels.

Opis:
The Generalized Problematic Internet Use Scale (GPIUS2) was developed to operationalize the theoretical cognitive-behavioral model of GPIU.  The aims of the study were to examine the theoretical model of GPIU, analyze the psychometric properties of the GPIUS2 among Polish adolescents, study measurement invariance across gender and method of data collection (offline vs. online). The sample comprised of 1,621 participants (52% men, Mage = 20.3). Some participants completed an online version of the GPIUS2 (n = 707, 73% men, M = 17.9), and others filled in a pencil and paper version (n = 914, 35% men, M = 22.1). Reliability was assessed (Cronbach’s α; McDonald’s ω). The factor structure and nomological, convergent, and discriminant validity were tested. The findings of this study supported the reliability and the factor structure of the GPIUS2. The factor similarity in Polish sample and the original US sample was high (Tucker’s congruence coefficients were range: .99–1.00). The structural relationships between the constructs of the model, convergent and discriminant validity were confirmed. The strong measurement invariance of the model across gender and method of data collection was confirmed. The Polish version of the GPIUS2 is a reliable and valid instrument that can be used for Polish adolescent samples. The scale showed measurement invariance across gender and method of data collection. Furthermore, the results support the cognitive-behavioral model of problematic Internet use in adolescents.

Opis:
This article deals with the phenomenon of Problematic Internet Use among adolescents and people in the stage of early adulthood. The concept based on the diathesis model of stress assumes the existence of factors conducive to the occurrence of this phenomenon. Such factors are postulated as personality traits and early maladaptive schemas that may be a threatening factor as relatively persistent over the course of life. An important point is that the Problematic Internet Use takes into account the preference of on-line contacts apart from the real ones, negative consequences, the aspect of compulsiveness and self-regulation of mood through the network.

Opis:
The increased time spent using the Internet and smartphones is prevalent primarily among adolescents. This group is currently of particular interest to media educators and psychologists studying the impact of ICTs on quality of life. An example of the negative changes associated with the intensive computerisation of various spaces is the uncontrolled and inadequate use of the Internet, referred to as problematic Internet use (PUI). This text contributes to the discussion on the extent of PUI among adolescents (12–16 years) in the Czech Republic (N=1555), Poland (N=501), and Slovakia (N=478). Based on the collected data, it was found that: 1) Polish and Czech adolescents are similar in terms of the intensity of PUI symptoms (adolescents from Slovakia are characterised by lower levels of PUI); 2) The vast majority of young people do not exceed PUI thresholds that could be considered alarming; 3) Lack of sleep or neglecting meals in favour of Internet use are the least frequent factors in the study group; 4) Most often adolescents declare that they are bored when they do not have access to the Internet; 5) Adolescents are a nonhomogeneous group in terms of the intensity of occurrence of PUI traits, but only 0.3% of adolescents in the Czech Republic and 0.4% in Poland had all 6 PUI factors present in maximum intensity.
