Opis:
The content of this article is related to the issues concerning Salesian educational system. The author has outlined some possible distortions of Don Bosco’s Salesian preventive system to which an educator is exposed. First of all, the educational errors which appear while working with young people concern the dimension of entertainment. Secondly, the author mentioned the instrumental treatment of the pupils. Next, the article touches the problem of paternalism as an effect of over protective love. There is a quite frequent problem of putting to much emphasis on actions according to the formal and structural requirements at schools which results in sticking to regulations. The author finishes indicating the last two distortions: leading to negligence of individual’s full development and overstressing the religious dimension at the expense of pupil’s integral education.

Saint John Bosco (1815-1888) always paid attention to the social aspect of his mission. The reflection, initiated during the XXIII General chapter, has as its goal renewal of the social aspect of the Salesian Charism. Hence the members of the chapter came up with the proposal of Salesian way of educating in faith and original program of Christian life: “Salesian Youth Spirituality”. The objective of this spirituality is a full growth of a young person in such a way that he/she is able to connect faith and life, immanent evaluation of his/hers own existence, participation in the life of society and finally global responsibility. This publication/reflection presents social elements of Saint John Bosco’s educational system. Its objective is to obtain the answer to the question; Is it possible to find within the preventive system, elements that can be useful in a communal formation? In order to achieve this objective/target the following community forming elements were distinguished and characterized as proposed by the Educator from Turin: oratory - as the environment of education and the experience of community; assistance - as the most appropriate educational component that included place of meeting and dialogue, as well as, family spirit which animated educational structures. There was also demonstrated the element of the educational system with leads to global responsibility for the world.

Jan Bosko dostrzegał wychowanie w szerokim kontekście rodziny, społeczeństwa, państwa i Kościoła. Był przekonany, że pozbawiony elementów religii klimat wychowawczy nie może sprzyjać ogólnemu rozwojowi młodzieży. Połączone z wymogami „rozumu” wymogi „serca” (miłość wychowawcza) i „religii” splatają się w niepowtarzalną i jedyną całość. Wychowawcza obecność w wymiarze społecznym – według słów Jana Bosko – ma zmierzać do formowania «uczciwych obywateli i dobrych chrześcijan», tzn. osób twórczych, aktywnych i odpowiedzialnych, świadomych swej godności, mających programy życia, otwartych na transcendencję, na drugich i na Boga. Zatem, w projekcie jego wychowania, nie ma sprzeczności między byciem obywatelem i byciem chrześcijaninem, bo zaangażowany chrześcijanin jest – lub powinien być – dobrym, odpowiedzialnym i uczciwym obywatelem.
John Bosco saw education in the broad context of the family, society, Church and state. He was convinced that an educational climate devo¬id of elements of religion could not favour the young person’s overall development. Combined with the requirements of “reason”, the requirements of the “heart” (educational love) and “religion” are interwoven in an inimitable and unique whole. Educational presence in the social dimension – in the words of John Bosco – is to strive for the formation of “honest citizens and good Christians”, i.e. creative, active, responsi¬ble people who are conscious of their dignity, with life plans, open to transcendence, to others, and to God. Thus, the design for his upbringing contains no contradiction between being a citizen and being a Christian, because the engaged Christians is – or should be – a good, responsible and honest citizen.

Jan Bosko (1815-1888) przedstawił w 1877 r. tekst, który zatytułował Il sistema preventivo nella educazione della gioventù (System prewencyjny w wychowaniu młodzieży). Budując system prewencyjny na podstawie doświadczeń swego życia, wiedział, że należy stworzyć system wychowania integralnego, dzięki któremu młody człowiek otrzyma pomoc w rozwoju naturalnym, kulturowym i duchowym. W ten sposób wychowanie stawało się jednocześnie i ludzkie, i chrześcijańskie, co znalazło wyraz w znanym haśle: „Uczciwy obywatel i dobry chrześcijanin”. Prowadzone było zgodnie z zasadą – ewangelizować, wychowując i wychowywać, ewangelizując. Wychowanie i formacja religijna, jaką proponuje ks. Bosko, prowadzi do pełni rozwoju osobowego. Dla każdego człowieka wielkim dobrem jest objawienie mu podstawowych prawd o Bogu, o nim samym, o świecie. Ewangelizacja jest zatem szansą wzbogacenia się dla tych, do których jest skierowana, ale i dla tego, kto ją prowadzi, oraz dla całego Kościoła.
In 1877, Jan Bosko (1815-1888) presented a text entitled Il sistema preventivo nella educazione della gioventù (Preventive system in the education of the young). While building a preventive system based on the experience of his life, he knew that it was necessary to create an integral education system through which young people would receive help in natural, cultural and spiritual development. In this way, upbringing became both human and Christian, which was reflected in the well-known slogan: “an honest citizen and a good Christian”. It was conducted according to the principle – evangelize by bringing up and educating by evangelizing. The upbringing and religious formation proposed by priest Bosko leads to full personal development. For each person, it is of great value to reveal to them the basic truths about God, about themselves, about the world. Evangelization is therefore a chance for spiritual enrichment for those to whom it is addressed, but also for those who lead it, and for the whole Church.

Służył wychowywaniu pokoleń młodzieży w niepowtarzalnym stylu opartym na rozumie, religii, dialogu, miłości wychowawczej. W 200-lecie urodzin ks. Jana Bosko można stwierdzić, że zasady jego pedagogiki powiązane są nie tylko z przeszłością. Oryginalne wartości tkwiące w systemie prewencyjnym wymagają pogłębienia, przystosowania oraz umiejętnej i odważnej odnowy ze względu na zmieniony kontekst społeczny, wychowawczy i duszpasterski.
The preventive system, which was not specified as a theory or concept by John Bosco himself, but precisely as a „system”, was created as a response to the educational needs related to the specific environment of 19th century Italy. He raised generations of youth in his unique style based on reason, religion, dialogue, and educational love. With the 200th anniversary of the birth of John Bosco, we can say that his pedagogical rules are not only linked with the past. The original values inherent in his preventive system need deepening, adaptation, and skilful and courageous renewal because of the changed social, educational, and pastoral context.

System prewencyjny – jak stwierdza Jan Bosko (1815-1888) – „opiera się całkowicie na rozumie, religii i dobroci (miłości wychowawczej)”. Te trzy podstawowe zasady nie tylko wzajemnie się przenikają, ale także warunkują. Czynny charakter miłości wychowawczej w systemie prewencyjnym Jana Bosko i jej uniwersalizm ujawnia się w trosce o innego, poszanowaniu, poznaniu i odpowiedzialności i oznacza profesjonalne zorientowanie się wychowawcy, co faktycznie jest dziecku potrzebne w jego rozwoju, odkrycie w każdym wychowanku osoby rozumnej, wolnej i odpowiedzialnej, wrażliwej na dobro, prawdę i piękno, zdolnej do autorefleksji, samorealizacji, twórczości, transcendencji.
A preventive system – as Don Bosco stated (1815-1888) – “is based entirely on reason, religion and kindness (love of education)”. These three basic principles not only mutually intertwine, but also condition one another. The active nature of the love of education in the preventive system of Don Bosco and its universality is revealed in the care for the individual as well as in respect, understanding and responsibility. It also means a professional orientation of the teacher that is focused on the child and its developmental needs and in discovering in each student a rational, free and responsible person which is sensitive to goodness, truth and beauty and which is capable of self-reflection, self-fulfilment, creativity and transcendence.

The article tackles the problem of topicality of the preventive system in education that was worked out by St Giovanni Bosco (1815-1888). It tries to answer the question if also in modern times, that are so different from the epoch, in which the Apostle of Torino lived, the style of educating young people that he proposed is still valid. Will the preventive system, based on reason, religion and love, do what is expected from it, namely, can it bring up young people and make them honest citizens and good Christians also in the new social, political, cultural and ecclesial situation? Showing the meaning, topicality and the ever positive effect of Rev. Bosco’s system in modern education was based mainly on the analysis of the Document of the General Chapter of the 23rd Salesian Association Wychowanie młodzieży do wiary: dzisiejsze zadanie i wyzwanie wspólnoty salezjańskiej (Educating of young people to faith: today’s task and challenge of the Salesian order) (Krakow 1990). The Salesian way to educate people to faith as an attempt to understand Giovanni Bosco’s educational system in the modern situation leads to the statement that the preventive system translated into the original program of Christian life: “The Salesian spirituality of young people” is still a living and important offer of Christian pedagogy.

Since the beginning of their foundation, the Salesians have placed great emphasis on educating young people by developing their passions and interests. The theater has always been present in Salesian work. Today, there are still groups that put emphasis on this form of education. This refers to schools, oratories or student theaters. It is noteworthy that, despite the socio-cultural changes, there are passionate people who can help other people develop their skills and spirituality.
Salezjanie od początku powstania zgromadzenia kładą duży nacisk na wychowanie młodych ludzi rozwijając ich pasje i zainteresowania. Teatr był zawsze obecny w dziełach salezjańskich. Dzisiaj ciągle można spotkać grupy kładące nacisk na te formę wychowania. Tak jest w przypadku teatrów szkolnych, oratoryjnych czy działających wśród studentów. Godnym uwagi jest to, że ciągle, mimo zmian społeczno-kulturowych pojawiają się pasjonaci, za których wzorem inni młodzi ludzie mogą rozwijać zarówno swe umiejętności, jak i duchowość.

Zaangażowanie salezjanów w pracy z dziećmi ulicy jest wyraźnym przykładem kontynuacji dzieła ks. W artykule autor stara się przyjrzeć specyfice oddziaływań wychowawców salezjańskich na dzieci i młodzież (metody działania, założone cele). Część teoretyczna będzie wzbogacona o badania o nachyleniu jakościowym przeprowadzone w maju 2017 roku. Wyniki badań sporządzone zostały w oparciu o analizę treści dostępnych stron internetowych prowadzonych w kilkudziesięciu krajach świata.
Salesian educational work with street children has its origins in the educational practice of Fr. Bosco. Currently, hundreds of Salesians around the world are involved in education of street children. Salesians’ commitment to working with street children is a clear example of the continuation of Fr. Bosco’s practice of working with the poor and homeless children and with those without prospects for the future. In this article, the author seeks to look at the specificities of Salesian educators’ influence on children and adolescents (methods of action while working with street children, goals). The theoretical part will be enriched with qualitative research conducted in May 2017. The research results are based on an analysis of the content of the available websites in dozens of countries in the world.

Celem artykułu jest ukazanie systemu prewencyjnego ks. Jana Bosko jako podstawy wychowania żeglarskiego. System ten polega na aktywnym zapobieganiu złu i zarazem na tworzeniu pozytywnych warunków procesu wychowania. Przykładem zastosowania systemu ks. Jana Bosko jest wychowanie żeglarskie realizowane m.in. w klubie Yacht Club Saltrom. Elementy systemu prewencyjnego umożliwiają skonstruowanie programu, jego odpowiedni i skuteczny przebieg, potwierdzony w ocenie młodych członków klubu.
The aim of the following paper is to reveal Jan Bosko's preventive system as the basis of sailing education. This system is based on active prevention of evil and simultaneously, creating positive conditions for the process of education. An example of the application of the Jan Bosko’s system is the education of sailing existing in the Yacht Club Saltrom. Elements of the preventive system enables to construct the program, included appropriate and effective communication, confirmed in the assessment of young members of the club.

Obchodzona w tym roku dwusetna rocznica urodzin św. Jana Bosko (1815-1888), wielkiego wychowawcy XIX wieku i twórcy oryginalnego systemu wychowania prewencyjnego staje się okazją do przybliżenia jego oryginalnej myśli pedagogicznej. Artykuł pozwala lepiej zrozumieć działalność pedagogiczną ks. Jana Bosko, u podstaw której leży założenie integralnego wychowania młodzieży. Wskazuje on również współczesnym pedagogom, że zarówno osoba św. Jana Bosko, jak i jego system prewencyjny mogą ciągle inspirować do odkrywania nowych perspektyw w dziedzinie wychowania młodego pokolenia.
Today the need for a deeper reflection on the problems of education arises from the need to seek such educational concepts which would be capable of developing and shaping the full personal potential of a young man in a holistic (integral) way. This year's 200th anniversary of the birth of St. John Bosco (1815-1888), a great 19th century educator and developer of the original system of preventive education, becomes an opportunity to introduce his original pedagogical thought. This article leads us to understand Father John Bosco's pedagogical activity which is based on the assumption of integral education of the young. It also shows modern educators that St. John Bosco and his preventive system of education can still inspire us to discover new perspectives in the field of education of the young generation.

The Salesian Society runs several schools in Poland. They represent a significant part of Catholic schools in the national educational system. The education is characterized by the preventive system of St. John Bosco. Polish educational law offers possibilities to integrate the educational objectives set out by Fr. Bosco, and pursue them in a manner appropriate to today's time and society. This article presents the main objectives of the Salesian educational pedagogy and presents the educational records of the Polish educational law, which offers space for their appropriate implementation.

The subject of the article is the issue of spiritual direction in the life and activity of St. John Bosco. The first part discusses the experience of spiritual guidance received by John Bosco in his childhood. Deprived of paternal protection at the age of two, Don Bosco was himself in need of wise mentors and masters in order to become later a spiritual guide for his own pupils. Next, the article points out the specifics of Don Bosco’s spiritual direction offered to the youth of the oratory. The specific character of his methods stemmed up primarily from the type of his own spirituality as well as personal experience and moral exemplars followed by the Saint. The last part of this publication presents selected forms of Don Bosco’s spiritual direction, both at the sacramental and extra sacramental level.

Opis:
The search for an integral and realistic approach to education also requires to fi gure a spiritual and religious dimension of human life in it. Father John Bosco (Don Bosco), while seeking an all-round development of young people as individuals, created an educational environment (Oratory) in which he prepared them for both social and ecclesial life. In his pedagogy, there was place for joy, fun and culture. Getting to know the biography of Don Bosco’s pupils allows us to understand how he implemented integral education in everyday life and interpersonal relations.The most significant testimonies of Don Bosco’s pedagogy are biographies of Alojzy Comollo, Dominik Savio, Michał Magone and Franciszek Besucco. They reveal not only the abundance of experience of these young people and the conditions of society in which they happened to live, but also express the educational humanism and fascinating spiritual culture of Don Bosco’s pedagogy.
Poszukiwanie integralnego i realistycznego ujęcia wychowania domaga się także uwzględnienia w nim wymiaru duchowego i religijnego. Ksiądz Jan Bosko, zabiegając o wszechstronny rozwój wychowanków tworzył środowisko wychowawcze (Oratorium), w którym przygotowywał młodych ludzi do konkretnego życia, tak społecznego, jak i eklezjalnego. W jego pedagogice było miejsce na radość, zabawę i kulturę, apostolat i naukę modlitwy. Poznanie biografii i wychowanków Księdza Bosko pozwala zrozumieć, w jaki sposób, w codziennym życiu i w relacjach międzyludzkich, realizował wychowanie integralne. Do najbardziej znaczących świadectw na temat pedagogiki księdza Bosko należą biografie: Alojzego Comollo, Dominika Savio, Michała Magone i Franciszka Besucco. Odsłaniają one nie tylko bogactwo doświadczeń tych młodych ludzi i uwarunkowania środowiska, w jakim przyszło im żyć, ale także są wyrazem humanizmu edukacyjnego i fascynującej kultury ducha pedagogiki Księdza Bosko.

Szkolne grupy teatralne są istotnymi elementami procesu dydaktyczno-wychowawczego. Teatr Beznazwy, działający od 2005 r. w Zespole Szkół Salezjańskich Łodzi, odgrywa istotną rolę wychowawczo-edukacyjną. W placówce tej działa kilka różnych grup – począwszy od pierwszych klas szkoły podstawowej, na maturzystach skończywszy. Dzięki aktywności artystycznej dzieci i młodzież poznają otaczający ich świat, rozwijają swoje pasje i zainteresowania, dzielą się z innymi (zwłaszcza swoimi rówieśnikami) własnymi obserwacjami rzeczywistości. Łódzki teatr jest również istotny dla działalności samej szkoły. Dzięki profesjonalnemu zaangażowaniu samych uczniów teatr ten jest rozpoznawalny w środowisku, przez co staje się dobrą wizytówką samej szkoły. Działania Teatru Beznazwy są dostrzegane nie tylko przez młodzież, ale także przez samą dyrekcję, która docenia wartość tychże zajęć teatralnych prowadzonych w szkole.
School theater groups are important elements of the didactic and educational process. The “Withoutname Theatre”, is operating since 2005 in the Salesian School Complex in Lodz and plays an important educational role among students at developmental stage. There are several diff erent groups operating in this facility, from the first years of primary school to high school graduates. Thanks to this artistic activity, children and young people learn about the world of values around them, develop their passions and interests, share their observations of reality, especially with their peers. The theater in Lodz’s school is also important for the activities of the school itself. Thanks to the professional involvement of the students, under the supervision of Sylwia Gajewska, the theater is recognizable in the community, which is additional benefit for school image. Activity of the “Withoutname Theatre” is noticed not only by young people, but also by the management of the school, who seems to appreciate the value of theatrical activities conducted at the Salesian school.
