Opis:
The biosolubilization of potassium feldspar (K-feldspar) by potassium-dissolving microorganisms has become a hot research topic. However, the screening of highly efficient potassiumdissolving strains from the soils of mining areas has not been reported. In this study, 82 strains with potassium-dissolving ability were screened from soils collected from a K-feldspar mining area in Suizhou, Hubei Province, China. One of them, JX-20, was a gram-positive is spherical bacteria with smooth edges, which was identified as a new strain by 16S rRNA gene sequencing. Simultaneously, the influences of temperature, initial pH value, inoculation volume, incubation time, shaking speed, Kfeldspar concentration, K-feldspar granularity, and the ammonium sulfate dose on the potassium releasing ability of the JX-20 strain were investigated. The results showed that the JX-20 strain had an obvious dissolution effect on K-feldspar. The optimum conditions for the JX-20 strain to remove potassium from K-feldspar were as follows: cultured at 28-30℃ for ten days, initial pH value of 7.4-8, 60 mL medium in a 250 mL conical flask, and 170 r/min shaking speed on a rotary shaker. The Kfeldspar concentration, inoculation volume, K-feldspar granularity, and ammonium sulfate dose were 2 g/L, 20%, 0.02-0.03 mm, and 0.4 g/L, respectively. Under the above conditions, the highest corrosion efficiency of 39.75% was achieved.

Effect of potassium stabilization in K2Fe22O34, the principal phase of styrene catalyst is caused by doping Cr and Ce. The effect was investigated by means of potassium ion and neutral atom thermal desorption. The kinetics for K+ and K emission from undoped and Ce-, Cr-doped b-K2Fe22O34 is studied with the field reversal technique and steady-state mode in high vacuum conditions. Two main mechanisms of the stabilization were developed depending on the dopant location. Chromium is located in the structure of β-ferrite and slows down the diffusion potassium ion. Cerium segregated at the basal planes favoring the cationic state of potassium inhibits the probability of potassium atoms to leave the K2Fe22O34 surface via work function increase.

Opis:
Eggplant fruits are abundant in potassium, the amount of which ranges from 200 to 600 mg K⋅100 g-1 FM, depending on a variety. They are also a rich source of phosphorus, magnesium, calcium, and iron. As there are no fertilization recommendations for eggplant cultivation under cover, this study been undertaken to evaluate the vegetable’s requirements. The aim was to test how the type and dose of potassium fertilizer influences nitrogen, phosphorus, calcium, and magnesium levels in eggplant fruits. The experiment on cv. Epic F1 eggplant was carried out in unheated polyethylene tunnel in 2004-2005. The eggplant was cultivated on peat subsoil in 10 dm3 capacity cylinders made of rigid plastic. The experiment was set up in a two-factor, completely randomized design. The influence of two factors was examined: I – type of potassium fertilizer (KCl, K2SO4, KNO3), and II – potassium rate (8, 16, 24 g K⋅plant-1). Fruit samples for laboratory determinations were collected in mid-August, in the middle of fruiting stage. Fruits were harvested at the stage of technological maturity and the following were determined: Ntot, P, K, Ca, Mg. The results were processed by variance analysis. Significantly higher total nitrogen and potassium concentrations in fruits of plants fertilized with potassium nitrate as compared to the other two fertilizer types were recorded. Increasing potassium doses, regardless the fertilizer type, considerably increased the element content in eggplant fruits and widened the K:Ca ratio value. The diversification of potassium fertilization did not have significant influence on phosphorus and magnesium concentrations in eggplant fruits. No significant changes in calcium content in fruits were observed when applying potassium sulfate or nitrate, while higher potassium chloride rates significantly decreased the concentration of this element in fruits.
Owoce oberżyny należą do warzyw zasobnych w potas. Badania oberżyny odmiany Epic F1 wykonano w latach 2004-2005 w nieogrzewanym tunelu foliowym w latach 2004-2005. Oberżynę uprawiano w cylindrach z folii sztywnej o pojemności 10 dm3, w torfie ogrodniczym. Doświadczenie przeprowadzono w układzie kompletnej randomizacji. Badano wpływ 2 czynników: I – nawozów potasowych (KCl, K2SO4, KNO3), II – dawek potasu (8, 16, 24 g K⋅roślina-1). Próby owoców do badań laboratoryjnych pobrano w 2. dekadzie sierpnia, w połowie okresu owocowania. Owoce zbierano w fazie dojrzałości użytkowej i oznaczono w nich N-og., P, K, Ca, Mg. Wyniki opracowano metodą analizy wariancji. Wykazano istotnie większą zawartość azotu ogółem i potasu w owocach roślin nawożonych saletrą potasową w porównaniu z roślinami nawożonymi dwoma pozostałymi nawozami.

Opis:
The experiment was established in the spring of 1999 on grey brown podsolic soil formed from boulder clay. Apple trees of cv. Golden Delicious were planted on rootstock at 3.5×1.2 m (2381 trees⋅ha-1). The first factor in the experiment consisted of the levels of potassium in the arable soil layer: 120, 160 and 200 mg K⋅kg-1 of soil d.m., on the basis of annual chemical analyses and determined by universal method. The second factor comprised three forms of potassium fertilizers: potassium chloride (KCl-60%), potassium sulphate (K2SO4) and potassium nitrate (KNO3). Each year the analyses of macro- and microelements in the soil and leaves were made. The increase in available potassium levels from 120 to 200 mg K⋅kg-1 of soil d.m did not have influence on the content of available forms of iron, manganese, zinc, copper and boron in the herbicide fallow strips in the tree rows or in the arable (0-20 cm) and subarable (20-40 cm)soil layers. Application of potassium sulphate fertilizer caused a significant increase in the content of zinc in herbicide strips in both soil layers compared with potassium chloride and potassium nitrate. Different potassium fertilizer forms did not cause any significant changes in amounts of available forms of iron, manganese, copper and boron. The increase in available potassium levels from 120 to 200 mg K⋅kg-1 of soil d.m significantly reduced the content of manganese in leaves of trees. However, no significant influence on the content of iron, zinc, copper and boron in leaves of apple trees was found.
Doświadczenie założono wiosną 1999 r. na glebie płowej wytworzonej z glin lekkich zwałowych. Drzewa odmiany Golden Delicious na podkładce M.26 posadzono w rozstawie 3,5 x 1,2 m (2381 drzew⋅ha-1). Pierwszym czynnikiem badań był zróżnicowany poziom zawartości potasu: 120, 160 i 200 mg K⋅kg-1 w ornej warstwie gleby, oznaczonego metod¹ uniwersalną, drugim rodzaj zastosowanego nawozu potasowego: chlorek potasu (sól potasowa 60%), siarczan potasu i saletra potasowa. Stosowanie siarczanu potasu istotnie zwiększało zawartość cynku w pasach herbicydowych zarówno w warstwie 0-20, jak i 20-40 cm gleby w stosunku do chlorku potasu (sól potasowa 60%) i azotanu potasu (saletra potasowa).

This research was conducted to study the potassium release under ten wetting and drying cycles in three soil orders (Mollisols, Vertisols, and Aridisols) collected from three different locations (Sharya, Semeel, and Kanishrin) in Dohuk governorate in Iraqi-Kurdistan region by using Ca-resin capsules, and K+ desorption (Kd) fitted to four model equations to choose the best equation to describe K+. The results of the experiments showed that flocculated water content wetting and drying cycles increased cumulative K-release from Ca-resin capsules until a tenth of the wetting-drying cycle. Potassium desorption according to the kinetic approach showed a significant effect of time on potassium desorption, and potassium desorption conformed to parabolic diffusion equations kinetics was the best equation to describe the Kd of potassium by using Ca-resin with a high coefficient of determination (R2) and low standard error and the order of the equation in terms of their preference in describing the desorption process is as follows: 1 – Parabolic diffusion, 2 – Power function, 3 – Elovich equation, 4 – First-order. The apparent desorption rate coefficient for the parabolic diffusion equation ranged from 0.1084–0.0877–0.1040 cmol kg-1∙day -1 from Mollisols, Vertisols, and Aridisols respectively. The rate coefficient K+ desorption according to the parabolic diffusion equation had a significant and positive correlation with SO42-, K+, T-CaCO3, HCO3, CEC, and Ca2+ but negatively significant correlated with EC and active CaCO3.

Opis:
Potassium channels are the most widely distributed class of ion channels. These channels are transmembrane proteins known to play important roles in both normal and pathophysiological functions in all cell types. Various potassium channels are recognised as potential therapeutic targets in the treatment of Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, brain/spinal cord ischaemia and sepsis. In addition to their importance as therapeutic targets, certain potassium channels are known for their beneficial roles in anaesthesia, cardioprotection and neuroprotection. Some types of potassium channels present in the plasma membrane of various cells have been found in the inner mitochondrial membrane as well. Potassium channels have been proposed to regulate mitochondrial membrane potential, respiration, matrix volume and Ca+ ion homeostasis. It has been proposed that mitochondrial potassium channels mediate ischaemic preconditioning in various tissues. However, the specificity of a pharmacological agents and the mechanisms underlying their effects on ischaemic preconditioning remain controversial. The following potassium channels from various tissues have been identified in the inner mitochondrial membrane: ATP-regulated (mitoKATP) channel, large conductance Ca2+-regulated (mitoBKCa) channel, intermediate conductance Ca2+-regulated (mitoIKCa) channel, voltage-gated (mitoKv1.3 type) channel, and twin-pore domain (mitoTASK-3) channel. It has been shown that increased potassium flux into brain mitochondria induced by either the mitoKATP channel or mitoBKCa channel affects the beneficial effects on neuronal cell survival under pathological conditions. Recently, differential distribution of mitoBKCa channels has been observed in neuronal mitochondria. These findings may suggest a neuroprotective role for the mitoBKCa channel in specific brain structures. This minireview summarises current data on brain mitochondrial potassium channels and the efforts to identify their molecular correlates.

Opis:
The paper presents results on the effect of agronomic factors on the content of chlorophyll, the biometric parameters of plants and quality of fenugreek seeds. It has been shown that potassium fertilization and inoculation of fenugreek seeds had no significant effect on the plant’s performance. The only trait influenced by those factors was the seed weight per plant; under higher doses of potassium fertilization K2.5 and K3.75, its value was about 10% higher, but fell down by 19.3% in treatments with inoculated seeds compared to non-inoculated ones. Soil water deficit caused reduction of plant height by 15.5%, number of pods by 18.3%, number of seeds per pod by 20%, weight of seeds by 28%, weight of the plant’s aerial parts by 18.0%, and harvest index by 13.2%. In response to water deficit, the content of chlorophyll decreased significantly from 57.8 SPAD units at 43 DAS to 52.4 and 54.0 SPAD units in the next phases (51 and 58 DAS), when 40% and 80% of pods attained the final length. Increasing doses of potassium caused a significant increase in the crude protein (by 3.2-5.4%) and potassium content (by 7-8%) in seeds of fenugreek grown under water deficit. After seed inoculation, an increase in the protein content was found.

Experiments were carried out to determine uptake and distribution of 137Cs, and total isotopes of Cs and K in plants of heather (Calluna vulgaris) growing at two levels of CsCl: 0.03 and 0.3 mM. Levels of Cs and K were determined in soil and in parts of plants: roots, stem, leaves and flowers. Also calculated were: (i) transfer factor of Cs and K from soil to parts of plant and (ii) discrimination of K by Cs during the transport of Cs from roots to aboveground parts of plants, expressed as K/Cs discrimination factor. The results confirmed that heather plants are hyper-accumulators of cesium, because the accumulation of Cs in shoot was much greater than in roots. The K level in heather did not change at Cs concentrations as high as 8-fold Cs level in this plant. Heather plants seem to be relatively resistant to cesium toxicity at 0.3 mM of CsCl; the effect of exposure to CsCl at this concentration was exerted only on roots, without affecting leaves and flowers. These results supply new information on the interactions between Cs and K nutrition in plants; they also point to a possible role of heather in redistribution of the radiocesium pollution in the forest ecosystem.

The study has investigated the individual and combined effects of nitrogen and potassium on the growth, grain yield, and quality of quinoa in ferralsols and acrisols. The experiments were conducted during the dry season under rainfed conditions in Central Highland, Vietnam. The factorial design was a randomized complete block design with three replications. The results revealed the positive impacts of nitrogen and potassium on the growth and yield of quinoa. However, after the application of an optimum dose of nitrogen, growth, and yield were not significantly changed and even decreased when the dose continued increasing. Higher levels of nitrogen and potassium application resulted in greater protein and fat content, but lower starch and fiber contents, compared to lower levels. The fertilizer practice has to rely on soil fertility. The study shows that the application of 150 kg N and 105 kg K2O ha-1 could be the optimum rate of nitrogen and potassium for quinoa production in ferralsols and acrisols in Central Highland.

Herbicides applied in the potato field significantly decreased potassium content in tubers compared with the control object. Simplifications of soil tillage de-creased potassium accumulation in potato tubers compared with the conventional till-age. Significant changes were also observed in content of potassium and its removal by 1 tonne tubers between the experimental years.

Potassium pathways in the system meadow soil-water-plant were studied in a long-term irrigated grassland experiment at limited potassium fertilisation. The effect of decreased potassium fertilisation rate on the content and uptake of this element by plants, on potassium balance, its concentration in soil solution and leaching out of the rhizosphere was estimated. At fertilisation rate of 240-360 kg N·ha-¹ and 150-250 kg K·ha-¹ in the mineral form or 360 kg N·ha-¹ and 300 kg K·ha-¹ in the form of liquid manure supplemented with mineral fertiliser the decrease of potassium fertilisation rate by about 40% during two years did not pose the risk of over crossing the optimum range of potassium content in plants and significant losses of the yield. The increase of potassium and nitrogen fertilisation doses favoured the leaching of potassium from soil.

Opis:
Owing to its suitable temperature conditions and the hot and dry climate combined with access to water courses and bodies, Sughd Region is a place that is naturally suited to the production of vines. Rational management of fertilizers is one of the key elements of production that makes it possible to obtain an optimal yield of high quality while considering the impact of fertilization on the environment. The aim of the research was to assess differentiation in the fertilization of vines with phosphorus and potassium with reference to the quality and quantity of the yield obtained, and aspects related to fertilization efficiency under the conditions of Sughd Region of the Republic of Tajikistan. The study was conducted in Sughd Region in Tajikistan, from 2015 to 2017. The experiment comprised two factors. The first factor was fertilization, with five fertilized objects. The second factor consisted of grapevine varieties. During the experiment, the size of yield, the phosphorus and potassium content, as well as the content of sugars and total acidity in the fruits were determined. The Recovery Efficiency, Agronomic Efficiency coefficients and Relative Agronomic Effectiveness were determined for the analysed doses and combinations of fertilizers. Regarding the volumes of the yield, the fertilization variant delivering 200 kg N, 87.2 kg P and 166 kg K ha-1 was found to be the most efficient. The research results showed that an increase in the dose of phosphorus by 100% without any parallel increase in the dose of potassium did not cause any significant growth in harvest yield. An increase in the doses of phosphorus and potassium had a significant effect on growth in yield, though also indicated a significantly lower use efficiency for the component applied. The applied fertilizer doses were not found to have caused any differentiation in the sugar content in grapes or in their acidity.
