W opracowaniu przedstawiona została analiza subpopulacji tworzącej potencjalne zasoby pracy (tj. ludności w wieku 15-64 lata) pod względem niektórych charakterystyk społeczno-demograficznych w krajach Unii Europejskiej oraz wybranych pozostałych krajach europejskich w latach 2000-2030. W szczególności rozważona została struktura wieku oraz poziom wykształcenia tej subpopulacji.
The study presents an analysis of a subpopulation constituting potential labour resources (in particular, people aged between 15-64) in respect of certain socio-demographic characteristics in the European Union countries and selected European countries in the years 2000-2030. The focus was put on the subpopulation’s age structure and its level of education.

This paper addresses the changes in the demographic development of Ukraine in the last 125 years in quantitative parameters of demographic sustainability: alterations in population size, its gender and age structure, and natural and migration movement. Demographic sustainability is considered to be the capacity of a country’s or a region’s demography to preserve a consistent population size with optimal proportions between its age categories. Eight historical-demographic stages related to specific military-political and socio-economic events are outlined and analysed. Demographic catastrophes and crises in Ukraine were directly related to the aggression of totalitarian regimes. They occurred at the initial stages of demographic transition, so Ukraine was capable of restoring the population size, albeit with deeply disturbed demographic structures. The large-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine increases the risk of the occurrence of a modern demographic catastrophe. Nowadays, the demographic sustainability of Ukraine cannot be achieved autonomously without the positive impact of external factors – the respective governmental demographic and socio-economic policies.

The object of the research undertaken in the article is to present the currently increasing demographic phenomena: depopulation and population ageing in Poland and their spatial differentiation, as well as their impact on the financial situation of municipalities. The authors used methods typical of social sciences, such as methods of empirical cognition. Correlation and regression analyses were used to demonstrate the impact of population size and structure on the revenues and expenditures of municipalities. The results indicate a significant differentiation of the described phenomena between municipalities in Poland and the relationship between specific categories of own revenue and current expenditures and the number of population. The relationship between the analysed variables is visible primarily in the case of shaping own revenue.

Miasta, zwłaszcza te pełniące funkcję stolicy województwa, stanowią istotny element każdego regionu, zarówno pod względem gospodarczym, społecznym, jak i demografia siła ich polaryzacyjnego oddziaływania często sięga poza administracyjne granice regionu. Celem opracowania jest ocena homogeniczności (lub dywergencji) województw z punktu widzenia struktury wieku populacji, a także ocena stopnia podobieństwa struktury wieku populacji zamieszkującej powiaty do tejże struktury mieszkańców stolic wojewódzkich. Analizy poprzedzone zostały charakterystyką województw Polski oraz ich stolic w latach 2002 i 2018 z punktu widzenia struktury wieku ludności, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem procesu starzenia się populacji. Następnie dla danych z 2018 r., przy wykorzystaniu metody Warda, przeprowadzona została klasyfikacja powiatów leżących w granicach województw których stolicami są największe pod względem liczby mieszkańców miasta oraz województw Polski Wschodniej. Dokonano też oceny podobieństwa powiatów leżących na obszarze wymienionych województw do ich stolic pod względem struktury wieku ludności w 2018 r. Uzyskane rezultaty wykazały większą homogeniczność regionów Polski Wschodniej pod względem podobieństwa powiatów leżących w ich granicach do stolic poszczególnych województw z punktu widzenia struktury wieku ludności, niż regiony których stolicami są największe pod względem liczby ludności miasta.
Cities, especially capitals of voivodeships, constitute an important element of each region in economic, social, and demographic terms. A big city functions as a growth centre, influencing the environment at various levels. However, the strength of their polarizing influence often reaches beyond the respective administrative boundaries. Urbanization and suburbanization significantly affect the course of population processes. Poland is differentiated territorially by the age structure of the population. This is visible both at the voivodeship level and within these administrative units. For several decades, the progress of the population aging process has been observed – especially in cities, which are characterized by a higher advancement of demographic old age. The paper aims to evaluate the degree of the homogeneity (or heterogeneity) of Polish voivodships in terms of the population age structure. First, as an introduction to the main analysis, a demographic description of Polish voivodships (understood also as regions) was conducted, including with their capital cities in the year 2002 and 2018. The description incorporates age structures with particular emphasis on the aging process of the population. Within each region the classification procedure was conducted (Ward’s method was used), but only the results for voivodships with the most populated capitals and voivodships located in the eastern part of Poland were presented. It was also attempted to evaluate the similarity between regions and their central cities with respect to the age structure of the population. GUS publications served as the source of the data analysis. The obtained results showed that Polish voivodships vary in terms of the population age structure. In this matter, compared to all poviats in a given region, cities stand out (especially large ones). In most of the analyzed regions, the population age structure of their capitals differs from the one of poviats located within these voivodships. Those differences are much greater in the case of large cities. Eastern Polish regions have greater homogeneity (in terms of similarities between their poviats and the capitals of individual voivodeships regarding the population age structure) than the regions with capitals of the highest population. Eastern Poland’s voivodship capitals have a lower economic, demographic, and social impact on rest of the region than large cities. Among the analyzed cities, Warsaw is characterized by a particular difference in the population age structure, both in comparison with the poviats of the Mazowieckie voivodship and with other voivodship capitals.

The purpose of this article is description of demographic ageing using two methods: resemblance of structures and the measure of asymmetry for the years 1991, 2001 and 2011, for population of women and men separately and comparing results. Voivod ships with population ageing similarly rarely have formed spatially close areas, rather they formed clusters in various parts of the country. With passing time age structures by voivod ship started to resemble regressive type structure, but their dynamics was independent from the structure recorded in 1990. Population of majority of voivod ships located in the Eastern part of the country was older than population of Western voivod ships. Similarly, population of women was older than population of men. The comparative analysis of result leads to similar conclusions.

In the assessment of the degree of the old age a lot of measures are being exploited. Question, to what extent conducted analyses cause similar conclusions. Analysis is regarding the index of the old age, but counted at different age limits older, for 1991–2011 years according to provinces. They examined, whether measures being characterized by a similar level of these values form groups of provinces clenched spatially areas; whether the part of western Poland is characterized by a lower degree of the progress of this process than for her the eastern part, or the spatial image of the old age underwent the change over time, or a spatial convergence of this process, or a different way of counting the student record book are appearing is leading old ages to similar conclusions.
W ocenie stopnia starości demograficznej wykorzystuje się wiele miar. Pytanie, na ile prowadzone analizy prowadzą do podobnych wniosków. Analiza dotyczy indeksu starości, ale liczonego przy różnych granicach wieku starszego, dla lat 1991–2011 według województw. Zbadano, czy grupy województw charakteryzujące się podobnym poziomem wartości tych miar tworzą zwarte przestrzennie obszary; czy część Polski zachodniej charakteryzuje się mniejszym stopniem zaawansowania tego procesu aniżeli jej część wschodnia, czy przestrzenny obraz starości ulegał zmianie w czasie, czy występuje przestrzenna konwergencja tego procesu, czy różny sposób liczenia indeksu starości prowadzi do podobnych wniosków.

W ocenie stopnia zaawansowania starości demograficznej wykorzystuje się wiele miar. Na ile zatem ich wybór różnicuje ocenę tego zjawiska w ujęciu przestrzennym. Rozważania prowadzone były dla lat 1991-2011 według województw przy wykorzystaniu wskaźnika i indeksu starości oraz przeciętnego dalszego trwania życia oraz miary asymetrii rozkładu. Zbadano również, na ile województwa odznaczające się podobnym poziomem wartości danej miary, tworzą zwarte przestrzennie obszary oraz czy część Polski zachodniej charakteryzuje się mniejszym stopniem zaawansowania tego procesu, aniżeli jej część wschodnia.
In the assessment of the degree of the progress of the demographic old age a lot of measures are being exploited. To what extent and so their choice is diversifying the evaluation of this occurrence in the spatial perspective. Dissertations are being kept for 1991-2011 years, according to provinces at using the indicator and the index of the old age and the average of life and measures of the asymmetry of the disintegration. We have examined also, to what extent provinces being characterized by a similar level of the measure given to the value form clenched spatially areas and whether part of western Poland to be characterized oneself with lower degree of the progress of this process than her eastern part.

For the last few decades there have been reports not only of the occurrence of new invasive species of European watercourses, but also their increasing expansion. One of such species is the Amur sleeper (Perccottus glenii). The present work contains assessment of age and length distribution, condition as well as growth rate and analysis of the parasite fauna of the Amur sleeper from the waters of the Vistula River tributary in its middle course (the Habdziński Canal). During the catch performed in 2017 and 2019, the total of 177 Amur sleepers were recorded in the studied watercourse and a statistically significant sex structure disproportion was observed. Among the specimens caught in 2017 dominant were fishes with lengths of 50.1–60.1 mm whereas in 2019 the majority of the Amur sleeper specimens measured 30.1–50.0 mm. Six age groups were recorded among the caught fish with a clear prevalence of specimens aged 1+ (70.06%). The most frequently recorded parasite of P. glenii was non-quantifiable Trichodina rostrata ciliate for which the Amur sleeper from the Polish waters appeared to be a new host. Moreover, the presence of an acanthocephalan Acanthocephalus lucii, not recorded in Poland in this host before, was observed in the chyme. Also, accidental presence of larvae of the Opisthioglyphe ranae tremadote, which is a parasite typical of amphibians, was also recorded. Despite unfavourable habitat conditions and increased volumes of biogenic substances in the waters of the Habdziński Canal, the Amur sleeper found convenient conditions to reside in this small watercourse.

Obserwowane od początku lat 90. zmiany w natężeniu oraz kierunku procesów demogra‑ ficznych w istotny sposób wpływają na przekształcenia struktury zasobów pracy według wieku, zwłaszcza w ujęciu przestrzennym. Celem artykułu jest ocena, na ile zmiany te wpływają na zaspokojenie oczekiwanego popytu na rynkach pracy w 2030 roku. Dla ich oceny w prowadzonych rozważaniach założono, że liczba dostępnych miejsc pracy według wieku pracowników nie ulega zmianie oraz że skłonność do podejmowania pracy przez potencjalnych pracowników według wieku będzie stała w czasie, a jedynie zmieniają się zasoby pracy. Rozważania prowadzono według województw, dla lat 2010 i 2030.
Наблюдаемые с самого начала 90‑ых годов изменения интенсивности и направлений демографических процессов существенно влияют на преобразования структуры трудовых ресурсов по возрасту, особенно в простстранственном понятии. Целью этой статьи является оценка, как эти изменения влияют на удовлетворение ожидаемого спроса на рынке труда в 2030 году. Чтобы оценить эти явления принято во‑первых, что число доступных мест труда по возрасту не будет изменяться, во‑вторых, склоность к участию в работе потенциальными работниками по возрасту будет постоянной во времени, и только изменяются трудовые ресурсы. Рассуждения велись по воеводствам и годам 2010 и 2030.
Changes in the intensity and direction of the demographic processes observed since the early 90s have a significant impact on the structure of people by age and their place of living. The purpose of this article is to assess how these changes influence the demand for labor force. The author is of the opinion that the availability of jobs considering the age of employees has not changed in numerous provinces of Poland, and a the tendency to have a job regardless of employee age remains unchanged, with some alterations to labor resources only. The research preceding the article was conducted in Polish provinces within 2010–2013.

A simple age-dependent population dynamics model with an additional structure or physiological variable is presented in its variational formulation. Although the model is well-posed, the closed form solution with space variable is difficult to obtain explicitly, we prove the uniqueness of its solutions using the fundamental Green’s formula. The space variable is taken into account in the extended model with the assumption that the coefficient of diffusivity is unity.

Opis:
Given a linear dynamical system, we investigate the linear infinite dimensional system obtained by grafting an age structure. Such systems appear essentially in population dynamics with age structure when phenomena like spatial diffusion or transport are also taken into consideration. We first show that the new system preserves some of the wellposedness properties of the initial one. Our main result asserts that if the initial system is null controllable in a time small enough then the structured system is also null controllable in a time depending on the various involved parameters.

The article discusses and evaluates, against the background of selected issues in the theory of urban demography concerning sustainable development, changes in the number of inhabitants in Lower Silesian cities, and to indicate possible development paths for individual categories of cities. All Lower Silesian cities are the subject of the study. The research covered the period 2000-2020. The cities are categorised into small, medium, and large, and their specific characteristics are primarily related to their location. The article uses a descriptive method, simple statistical methods, comparative analysis, and an expert method. The latter proposed the division of cities into categories in terms of demographic changes and sustainable development paths for individual city categories. The results show that Lower Silesian cities (as a group) are ageing, regardless of their size, yet a detailed case study indicated a relatively large group of cities (mainly small) with a growing population and growth potential.
Celem artykułu jest omówienie i ocena, na tle wybranych zagadnień z teorii demografii miast wobec zrównoważonego rozwoju, zmian liczby ludności w dolnośląskich miastach oraz wskazanie możliwych ścieżek rozwoju dla poszczególnych kategorii miast. Przedmiotem badań są wszystkie dolnośląskie miasta. Okres badawczy to lata 2000-2020. Miasta są analizowane w podziale na małe, średnie i duże oraz pod względem wybranych ich specyficznych cech związanych w znacznym stopniu z lokalizacją. W artykule zastosowano metodę opisową, proste metody statystyczne, analizę porównawczą oraz metodę ekspercką. Ta ostatnia polegała na zaproponowaniu podziału miast na kategorie pod względem zmian demograficznych oraz zaproponowaniu ścieżek rozwoju zrównoważonego dla poszczególnych kategorii miast. Wyniki badania pokazują, że populacja dolnośląskich miast jako grupy się starzeje, niezależnie od ich wielkości. Natomiast szczegółowa analiza przypadków wykazała, że była dość liczna grupa miast (przede wszystkim małych), w których liczba ludności rosła i które mają potencjał wzrostowy.
