This article aims to show queries and research that were conducted in Sweden during the recent years and to present an idea of the national research program over Polonica, that was a result of these experiences. Authors propose creation of the program under the governmental auspices, organizationally and financially stable, with the aim of scientific restitution of cultural objects dispersed outside the country and preservation of important and often unique national cultural heritage. The project should be of interdisciplinary character, methodologically coherent, should also comprehensively cover the major collections of Polonica, moreover, the results of queries and research are to be presented in a way different from the current fragmentation. Condition for success of this program is the participation in its implementation, both researchers from Poland - archivists, librarians, Polish philology specialists, historians, neolatitists – and foreigners who specialize in Polish philology and are native to the area of action. The scope of work should include archival collections, their cataloging, digitization, and critical editions, which restore the most valuable works to scientific and cultural life. The remainder of this article deals with books on the Swedish Polonica that were written between 2006 and 2010. These were four catalogs of books and archives, five critical editions of the traditional Polish songs and one post-conference publication. All these books originated in the professor's subsidy of the Foundation for Polish Science, the research project "Humanism. Ideas, trends and research paradigms in Polish culture "- Series "Polonica". The items were also funded by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage and the University of Stockholm and the Swedish Academy of Sciences. In the studies were involved scientists from the University of Warsaw, University of Maria Curie-Sklodowska in Lublin, University of Uppsala, Stockholm, Bialystok and Lodz, the Polish Academy of Sciences, the National Library in Warsaw, Archives: Military and National in Stockholm and the Carolina Rediviva Library.

The Archives of the City of Riga, and particularly so called External Archives of Riga City Council (band No 673) deserves special attention of the Polish researcher while working in the holdings of the Latvian State Historical Archives. Documents and correspondence gathered in this fond allow to trace the presence of the "Polish factor" in Livonia and the city itself, the nature of contacts between the city authorities and Polish and Lithuanian dignitaries and the royal court, and finally to examine the meaning of Riga and Livonia for the economy and security of Poland. External Archives of Riga City Council are divided into four parts. In part 1, among the documents from about 1220 to 1869, are groups of archival documents from “the Polish era" such as: extensive correspondence between the city and fortress of Dźwinoujście (German Dünamünde), documentation of conflict with the Jesuits and urban riots (eg calendar riots 1584–1589), files related to the functioning of the Riga Castle, copies of for parliamentary acts regarding Riga and Livonia and governing system of Livonia, the city correspondence with Jan Zamoyski, the representatives of the Radziwill Family and Chodkiewicz Family, documentation of the negotiations on Riga’s surrender to Poland and the issues dealt by Sigismund III and General Commissioners with between 1598 and 1599. Part 2 contains documents from the years 1225–1585, among them only a few refers to the Polish times (these are mainly information concerning the acquisition of Livonia, Riga and property and privileges of Archbishop William Hohenzollern). Part 3 (Aulica – Polonica) contains hundreds of documents, arranged in chronological order (1560–1630). In this section one will find: the town petitions and instructions for Riga’s envoys to the Diet and regional diets, to kings, princes of Courland and Polish and Lithuanian nobles, coverage of the missions of Riga’s envoys, information about the progress of the Diet’s sessions, the decisions of rulers in the affairs of the city and correspondence on participation of Riga in hostilities in Livonia. The last part of the Archives no. 4 (Moscowitica-Ruthenica), contains documents from 1229 to 1708. With the turn of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries there has been preserved mainly correspondence between Riga and Vitebsk and Polotsk and Lithuanian officials. It concerned the contentious issues (eg, the orthodox church of St. Nicholas taken into possession by Riga) and trade–related matters.

The article discusses selected issues related to the work on the national Polish retrospective bibliography. A short historical outline of the changes in understanding of the term Polonicum is presented (chiefly, with respect to the fundamental bibliography of the Polish literature, i.e. the Bibliografia by Karol Estreicher). The author provides the definition of the term Polonicum, currently accepted in the Polish bibliographic practice, and the rules of selecting materials to be included in the national bibliography. While discussing individual criteria (territorial, national, thematic, and linguistic) Halina Mieczkowska brings forth instances of writings from the period ranging from 16th to 18th century that demonstrate the difficulties, which arise from applying the aforementioned rules in picking out the Polonica.
W artykule zreferowano problemy związane z tworzeniem polskiej retrospektywnej bibliografii narodowej. Przedstawiono krótki zarys historyczny tego zagadnienia (skupiając się na podstawowym wykazie literatury polskiej, czyli Bibliografii Karola Estrei- chera), podano definicję polonicum funkcjonującą w dzisiejszej praktyce bibliotecznej oraz zasady doboru materiału do bibliografii narodowej. Przy omawianiu poszczególnych kryteriów (terytorialnego, narodowego, tematycznego i językowego) ukazywano na wybranych przykładach piśmiennictwa/wydawnictw z okresu XVI-XVIII w. trudności z realizacją przyjętych zasad typowania dzieł do zespołu polonica.

This article provides basic information about one of the major projects currently run by the Jagiellonian Library. This project, created and directed by Dr. Jacek Partyka from the Jagiellonian Library, was started in February 2013 and will last for three years, until February 2016. This project has been given the whole financial asset that it required and involves the work of a large team of high-class specialist in the field. The aim of the project is to conduct a thorough research on the so-called ‘Berlin collection’ (Berlinka) with the aim of deciphering the provenance notes on the Polonica. It will cover early printed books, manuscripts, musical prints and autographs, as well as modern books, and newspapers. All these objects will be catalogued, scanned, and eventually published in Jagiellonian Digital Library, which is the largest digital library in Poland. Thanks to this, they will become available to researchers worldwide.
