The article presents the dynamics, characteristics and the shifting paradigms of the reception of Polish literature in China from 2012 to 2020. The author analyses the reasons for the popularity of the most often translated and read Polish authors on the Chinese publishing market, with particular interest in Czesław Miłosz, Olga Tokarczuk and Andrzej Sapkowski. She also presents the translators – both experienced and often recognised and awarded doyens of Polish studies in China, and those from the intermediate and youngest generations to whom the oldest ones passed the knowledge, skills, passion and the sense of common mission of building cross-cultural dialogue through literature.

The article provides an overview of the second decade of the 21st century in the field of literary translation in Poland – both in terms of the activity (and visibility) of translators, as well as translation scholars. It recalls the most important events, books, texts, polemics; it reviews translation awards and stakes, outlines diagnoses and future directions.

Opis:
The article traces Polish translations of Dickinson’s poetry preceding and following the publication in the nineteen nineties of 200 poems by Emily Dickinson translated by Stanisław Barańczak. It comments on some Polish poets’ response to Dickinson in their own works and points to the growing body of publications online of private selections from Dickinson’s poems previously translated by established Polish poets (mostly Barańczak or Marjańska) as well as translations and original poems inspired by Dickinson’s work authored by less known poets, amateur translators and lovers of poetry. The article suggests that the increased Polish interest in Dickinson’s work is not only a kind of domino effect following Barańczak’s impressive translations. It also results from the growth of interest in translation studies and skills and must be related, too, to the fact that her poetry of private sensibility confronted with a dramatically changing world resonates with contemporary experience of the sensitive individual.

Komentáře do bibliografie překladů české literatury v Polsku a polské literatury v České republice v 2015 roce je rekapitulaci událostí na polském a českém vydavatelském trhu, spojených s publikací překladů české literatury v Polsku a polské literatury v České republice v roce 2015. V této souvislosti se prezentovaly nejdůležitější překladové publikace v tomto jazykovém páru, uvedla se významná nakladatelství a aktivní překladatele. Kritický přehled je doprovázen stručným nastíněním vývoje polských a českých nakladatelů, zabývajících se prezentací polské literatury v České republice a české literatury v Polsku.
Annotations to the bibliography of literary translations of Czech literature in Poland and Polish literature in the Czech Republic in 2015 is a summation of events in both the Polish and Czech publishing markets, connected with the publishing of literary translations of Czech literature in Poland and Polish literature in the Czech Republic in 2015. Within the framework of annotation, the most important literary translations in this language pair were presented, pointing to the leading publishers and active translators. An evaluative review is linked to a compact outline of the development of Polish and Czech publishers that handle Polish literature in the Czech Republic and Czech literature in Poland.

Opis:
Celem niniejszego artykułu jest przedstawienie wybranych definicji i koncepcji kompetencji translatorycznej, głównie w oparciu o prace anglojęzyczne. Autor wychodzi od najwcześniejszych prac generatywistów i pokrótce charakteryzuje początki prac nad teoretycznymi podwalinami kompetencji translatorycznej. W dalszej części artykułu zostaną przedstawione najważniejsze zmiany i nurty w badaniach nad kompetencją – przede wszystkim osiągnięcia hiszpańskiej grupy badawczej PACTE oraz tzw. definicja minimalistyczna Pyma. W końcowej części artykułu autor postara się udzielić odpowiedzi na pytanie, jakie są glottodydaktyczne implikacje wyłaniające się z różnych definicji kompetencji translatorycznej. W oparciu o teorię „kompetencji przedtłumaczeniowej” (ang. pretranslation competence) w ujęciu Presas (2000), spróbuje wskazać różnice pomiędzy procesem kształcenia językowego na filologiach a na studiach tłumaczeniowych.
The aim of this article is to present selected definitions and concepts of translation competence, mainly based on works in English language. The author starts from the earliest works of generativists (Wills, Harris) and briefly describes the development of the work on the theoretical foundations of translation competence. In the following part of the article, the most important changes and trends in the research on competence will be presented – first of all, the achievements of the Spanish research group PACTE and the so-called Pym’s minimalist definition. In the final part of the article the author will explore the question, what are the methodological implications arising from different definitions of translation competence. Based on M. Presas’ theory of “pretranslation competence”, he will point out the differences between the curricula of foreign language taught at modern language departments and the needs in the process of teaching language skills in translation studies.

The article discusses selected male and female Italian writers whose works were published in Polish between 1887 and 1939. The history of translations of distinguished authors (Collodi, De Amicis, Salgari) and selected female Italian writers is analysed. The article presents also “short” life histories of Polish translators who worked in the years 1923-1939. It was through their effort and dedication that Polish children of the inter-war period were introduced to Italian literature for young readers.

Marta Buczek — autorka príspevku pod názvom Poľská literatúra v slovenských prekladoch po roku 2007 charakterizuje poľskú literatúru, ktorá bola preložená na Slovensku v rokoch 2007—2013. Vo svojom príspevku sa zaobera aj súčasnými slovenským knižným trhom, ktorý zverejňuje preklady poľskej literatúry, slovenskými vydavateľstvami a prekladeteľmi. Podrobne analýzuje prekladovú literatúru z ohľadom na jej vstup do nového literarného kontextu.
Marta Buczek — the author of the article Polish Literature in Slovak translations after 2007 describes in detail the Polish literature which was translated in Slovakia in the years 2007—2013. In her article she also deals with contemporary Slovak publishers market which publishes translations of Polish literature, Slovak publishers and Slovak translators. She analyzes translation literature with view of its entry into a new literary context.

Lubelskie środowisko kulturalne w XIX wieku nie odgrywało właściwie żadnej roli w rozwoju polsko-rosyjskich stosunków literackich. Sytuacja ta uległa zmianie po roku 1905, kiedy iw Europie, i wśród Polaków wzrosło zainteresowanie literaturą rosyjską, której wysoki poziom artystyczny już wcześniej zdobył duże uznanie w świecie. Po roku 1905 złagodzono w Królestwie Polskim cenzurę rosyjską, łatwiej było już wtedy wydawać polską prasę i organizować towarzystwa kulturalne i oświatowe. W prasie lubelskiej, szczególnie w dzienniku „Kurier”, publikowano przekłady literatury rosyjskiej, teatr lubelski zaczął wystawiać dramaty autorów rosyjskich – Gogola, Tołstoja, Gorkiego, Czechowa i Andriejewa. W lubelskim środowisku duże zainteresowanie budziła rosyjska proza początku XX wieku (Czechow, Gorki, Sołogub, Andriejew), natomiast nie cieszyła się tu uznaniem ówczesna poezja rosyjska. Najbardziej popularnym pisarzem rosyjskim w prasie lubelskiej okazał się Lew Tołstoj. Polacy doceniali bowiem jego życzliwy stosunek do sprawy polskiej i krytycyzm wobec despotyzmu władz carskich.
The article concerns three out of many issues connected with the medieval history of Lublin, which are closely intertwined with the Ruthenian matters. The text, among other things, focuses on bringing to Lublin the relics of the True Cross, erecting in the city the tower by Daniel, the Prince of Galicia-Volhynia, as well as tracing the Chapel of the Holy Trinity’s origins. As an attempt to present the current views on the matter in question, the article begins with the presentation of the sources, then provides the outline of the state of research, and finally concludes with the hypotheses suggesting the clarification of any doubts concerning the subject of the article
Культурня среда Люблина в XIX веке не имела по-настоящему никакого значения вразвитии польско-русских литературных отношений. Ситуация изменилась после 1905 года, когда в Европе и среди поляков увеличился интерес к русской литературе, которая, благодаря высокому художественному уровню, еще раньше пользовалась мировым признанием. После 1905 года в Польском Королевстве облегчили цензуру, что дало возможность издавать польскую прессу и организовать культурные и просветительские общества. Влюблинской прессе, в особенности в газете «Курьер», публиковались переводы срусской литературы, в люблинском театре ставились драмы русских авторов – Гоголя, Толстого, Горького, Чехова и Андреева. Люблинская среда прежде всего очень интересовалась русской прозой начала XX века (Чехов, Горький, Сологуб, Андреев), в отличие от тогдашней русской поэзии. Самым популярным русским писателем в люблинской периодике стал Лев Толстой. Поляки одобрили по крайней мере его доброжелательное отношение к польским вопросам икритику деспотизма царских властей.

Opis:
Approximately 75% of book publications of Polish literature in Slovenian in the years 1987—2014 include an afterword written by the translator, who expresses in it his concept of translation as a linked text. Slovenian translators place the original in the center of the reflection on translation, attributing the translation a cognitive, mediating and sometimes artistically inspirational function. This testifies to the translators’ responsibility for the reception of the translated literature, and to their historical and literary integrity, as well as to the publishers’ diligence.
Obstaja povezava med parabesedili in prevajalsko strategijo, med odnosom do tujega in zasnovo prevoda, opazovano z vidika ciljne kulture, ki jo predstavljajo prevajalci, kritiki in raziskovalci. Parabesedila zmeraj opredeljujejo literarno in kulturno zavest posameznikov in dobe. opirajoč se na konkretne prevajalske rešitve na ravni jezika in kulture v razmerju do izvornega besedila ustvarjajo novo literarno in miselno resni- čnost. v letih 1987—2014 je v spremnih besedah prevajalcev slovenskih prevodov iz poljske književnosti posredno in neposredno izražena koncepcija prevoda, ta pa v središče prevajalskega procesa in translatoloških analiz postavlja izvirnik. Spremna beseda je izraz interakcije, ki se vzpostavi v prevodnem procesu med prevodom in izvirnikom ter med prevajalcem in bralcem prevoda. Prevodna operacija, ki jo prevajalec sklene (in izvede) v sporazumu z bralcem, obeta čudovito odpravo v neznani svet pod vodstvom nespornega poznavalca. Spremne besede imajo spoznavno in posredovalno vlogo.

The article discusses the Polish translations of E. T. A. Hoffmann’s “Nutcracker”. In the first part the origins of the famous story are presented. Then the author presents the problem of “translation series” as a phenomenon revealing translators’ approaches and various interpretations of the same literary work. The two main chapters of the article are devoted to eight different Polish translations of “Nutcracker”. Their detailed analysis leads to an evaluation of translators’ strategies of domestication and exotization and their influence on the Polish language reception. In the last part the author presents her own translation and points out important aspects of the original work treated in her version of “Nutcracker” as translation invariants.

This article presents 21st-century Macedonian prose as it appears in contemporary Polish translation. Novels and stories by Macedonian authors are evidence of the great degreee to which this literature has recently developed. Topics under consideration include an analysis of the fine quality of modern Macedonian prose, as well as the high attainment of its Polish translators, who, using their own translation strategies, successfully transfer one cultural code to another.
Во статијата се зборува за проблематиката на современата македонска проза во преводи на полски јазик, што беа излезени во 21 век. Во превод се појавија романи или раскази од деcет автори, а тоа се Луан Старова, Гоце Смилевски, Лидија Димковска, Блаже Миневски, Ермис Лафазановски, Румена Бужаровска, Бранко Прља, Александар Прокопиев, Жарко Кујунџиски и Радован Павловски. Прегледот на нивната проза, исто така, укажува на имињата на полските преведувачи и уметноста на нивните стратегии за превод. Беа презентирани и издавачките куќи чија амбиција е да промовираат добра литература. Opis:
This article focuses on the career of Jerzy Pleśniarowicz, the well-known Polish translator of Slavic literatures and poet associated with the Józef Czechowicz poetry group, and who, in his capacity as dramatist and theatre director, has directed on the Polish scene plays by Slovak dramatists including Július Barč-Ivan, Ivan Bukovčan, Ľubomír Feldek, Osvald Zahradník. The article discusses the output of this poet, viewing him primarily as a translator of Slovak literature; it goes on to analyse his Polish translations of Slovak poetry published in the 2018 volume Wiersze i przekłady wierszy (Poems and Translated Poems). The anthology focuses on the representatives of three main groups: the surrealist poetry group consisting of, among others, Rudolf Fabry, Vladimír Reisel, Pavol Bunčák, Július Lenko, and Štefan Žáry; the Trnavská skupina poetry group, including Ľubomír Feldek, Ján Ondruš, and Ján Stacho; and finally the Mladá tvorba group with the contemporary poets Milan Rúfus, Miroslav Válek, Ján Buzássy, Vlastimil Kovalčík, Vojtech Kondrót, Štefan Strážay, and Vojtech Michálik. The author considers Pleśniarowicz’s translation choices, which are also a strong declaration of his views. She elucidates his translation strategies, pointing out close ties with the poetics of his own work, and also discusses the contemporary significance of this poetry in the Polish sphere of reception.
Príspevok sa zameriava na osobnost’ Jerzého Pleśniarowicza, známeho poľského básnika zo skupiny poetov súvisiacich s poéziou Józefa Czechowicza, divadelného režiséra, ktorý priniesol na poľskú divadelnú scénu drámy slovenských dramatikov (Júliusa Barča-Ivana, Ivana Bukovčana, Ľubomíra Feldeka, Osvalda Zahradníka) a najmä prekladateľa slovanských literatúr. Autorku článku zaujíma fenomén Pleśniarowicza ako prekladateľa slovenskej literatúry. V stati sa podrobne analyzujú jeho poľské preklady slovenskej poézie, predstavené v zborníku Wiersze i przekłady wierszy, ktoré boli uverejnené v Poľsku v roku 2018. Štúdia zohľadňuje výber prekladov, ktoré sú silnou deklaráciou prekladových a poetických názorov Pleśniarowicza, okrem iného preklady predstaviteľov surrealistickej skupiny poézie (Rudolfa Fábryho, Vladimíra Reisela, Pavla Bunčáka, Júliusa Lenka, Štefana Žáryho), básnikov z Trnavskej skupiny (Ľubomíra Feldeka, Jána Ondruša, Jána Stacha), predstaviteľov skupiny Mladá tvorba a súčasných básnikov (Milana Rúfusa, Miroslava Válka, Jána Buzássyho, Vlastimila Kovalčíka, Vojtecha Kondróta, Štefana Strážaya či Vojtecha Mihálika). Príspevok tiež reflektuje interpretáciu prekladateľských stratégií Pleśniarowicza, úzko spojenú s jeho poetikou, a tiež zahŕňa diskusiu o súčasnom význame prekladanej poézie v poľskom horizonte prijatia.

The article addresses the issue of translator’s notes in a Russian translation of Olga Tokarczuk’s “Bieguni” novel by Irina Adelʹgejm. The main text of the original, despite its abundance in borrowings, interjections and quotations in languages other than Polish, was not provided with explanatory notes by the author. The translator, however, provided the translation with 149 notes. They are notesexplaining terms, proper names, names of realities and others translated in the main text as well as notes explaining fragments formulated in the novel’s text in languages other than the language of the narration. On the basis of the undertaken analysis it is stated that the strategy of forming paratexts adopted by the translator is inconsistent. The secondary text designates an additional way of reading “Bieguni” novel, but it does not impose it as using the notes is just a possibility and depends on the reader’s choice.
