    Opis:
    The analysis of research material aims to present the borrowings from the Polish language employed in two selected historical novels by 20th century writers from Galitia. The examples of borrowings subject to the description and analysis prove that Polish and Ukrainian languages exerted linguistic influence on each other through common history and culture of Eastern Galitia. The analysis of borrowings accounts for the introduction to further studies of borrowings as used by other writersfrom Galitia, which would enable to address issues of linguistic specificity of particular region in terms of borrowings.

    The analysis comprises a stock of 414 Polish loanwords selected from the dictionary of Smolensk dialects. In the article the following problems are discussed: the stock of loanwords, periods and the process of the borrowing. Most of the words were borrowed as a result of direct language contacts. Some of the words were borrowed through Belarussian. The majority of them were borrowed in the 17th, 19th and at the beginning of the 20th century.

    Autor analizuje 35 wyrazów zapożyczonych z języka polskiego do gwar okolic Moskwy. Większość z nich została przejęta z języka polskiego przez rosyjski język literacki w XVII–XVIII wieku, a następnie dostała się do gwar. Część zapożyczeń weszła do gwar moskiewskich z języka polskiego przez sąsiednie gwary zachodnie i południowe. W porównaniu z zapożyczeniami w innych gwarach rosyjskich wpływ języka polskiego na gwary moskiewskie był niewielki.
    The author analyses 35 words borrowed from Polish in the dialects of the Moscow area. The majority were borrowed from Polish by the Russian literary language of the 17th–18th centuries and subsequently entered the dialects. Some of the borrowings were adopted from the neighbouring Western and Southern dialects. In comparison to the borrowings of other Russian dialects, the influence of the Polish language on the Moscow dialects was insignificant.

    The study of Polonisms in Belarusian linguistics conducted in the 1940s until the 21st century, is under consideration in this article: the main studies dedicated to the loanwords borrowed from Polish are enumerated; framework aspects for the studies of Polonisms are defined. Besides, much attention is paid to the attitude toward Polonisms that has been changing during different periods and has been depending on extralinguistic factors.
    Badania polonizmów w językoznawstwie białoruskim (lata 40. XX w.–XXI w.)Artykuł jest poświęcony badaniom zapożyczeń polskich w języku białoruskim, które prowadzono na Białorusi w latach 40  XX–XXI w. W publikacji omówiono najważniejsze prace dotyczące polonizmów funkcjonujących w języku białoruskim oraz wskazano najważniejsze aspekty rozważań nad zapożyczeniami polskimi w białoruszczyźnie. Autorka zaznacza ponadto, że stosunek do polonizmów na Białorusi zmieniał się w różnych okresach i często był zależny od czynników ekstralingwistycznych.
    У артыкуле аналізуецца вывучэнне паланізмаў у беларускім мовазнаўстве 40-х гадоў ХХ– ХХІ ст : называюцца асноўныя навуковыя працы, прысвечаныя запазычанням з польскай мовы, вызначаюцца аспекты, у якіх вялося даследаванне паланізмаў. Акрамя гэтага, нададзена ўвага стаўленню да паланізмаў, якое змянялася ў розныя перыяды і часта залежыла ад экстралінгвістычных фактараў.

    The article presents an analysis of 140 random lexemes of Greek and Latin origin excerpted from Słownik kieszonkowy polsko-rosyjski i rosyjsko-polski [Pocket Polish-Russian and Russian-Polish Dictionary] edited by I. Mitronova, G. Sinicyna and G. Lipkes. The corpus is, according to lexicographers and linguists, an effect of mutual influences of Polish and Russian languages. The opinions on origins of words differ among researchers, and the article attempts to verify the previously accepted judgements by M. Vasmer, W. Witkowski and Z. Rysiewicz, based on informations included in monographs by D. Moszyńska, H. Leeming, S. Kochman, and in historical dictionaries of both languages. With reference to almost 75% of the analysed material, the direction of loanword acquisition proposed by Vasmer, Witkowski and Rysiewicz has been confirmed. However, for about a quarter of the random sample of words, the accepted opinion is not confirmed by more recent historical dictionaries, nor by the lexical material provided in the monographs. The article proposes new results for the direction of loanword migration in this group of vocabulary.

    Opis:
    The impact of the Polish language on the English lexical fabric, although unimpressive, is worth noticing. However, thus far it has not been a source of interest of many scholars. The present paper aims at discussing Polish loanwords that have found their way into the English language; this is done by means of collecting alleged loanwords from an array of sources (dictionaries, subject literature, and the Internet) which are later verified against, inter alia, such etymological dictionaries as the Oxford English Dictionary. Next, in order to assess their scale of use, selected items are checked in a number of corpora available online. The research concludes that there are 33 direct borrowings from the Polish language (belonging to 8 semantic categories) present in English, and nearly half of them are yet unattested in the OED.

    Opis:
    Michał Amszejewicz in Dykcjonarz, which was a record of vocabulary of foreign origin used in the Polish language in the middle of the 19th century, recorded more than eight hundred lexical units (838 in 633 entries, which comprise 511 monosemes and 122 polysemes with two or more meanings) present in the lexis as a result of interference between the Polish and the German languages. Their functional allocation is diversified, with specialist lexis being dominant. Analysed vocabulary in the middle of the 19th century was functionally allocated to various areas of activity, firstly to crafts – 155 lexical units (18.5%), next to military and its organisation – 93 lexical units (11.1%), merchant’s profession and its specifics, commercial and financial aspects – 72 lexical units (8.6%). The remaining 518 lexical units (61.8%) are scattered in the lexicon of another several dozens of specialties, such as rafting, mining, metallurgy, forestry, meteorology, gardening, fine arts and others. Until the beginning of the 21st century, out of 838 analysed lexical units a diversified life cycle was preserved by 321 (38.3%), and 517 (61.7%) were transferred to linguistic archives of the Polish Language. In analysed vocabulary of German origin, actively used in the most recent Polish Language, biased lexis is dominant – in terms of terminology and style; less frequently these are words with a neutral character, regarded as basic vocabulary. Analysed Germanisms have also undergone semantic changes, i.e. specialisation, generalisation, metaphorisation and partial transformations. Germanisms in the Polish Language of the 19th century are a cultural and linguistic fact, which is characterised by certain specific conditions, also in terms of the time of their use and functionality, which has been emphasised on numerous occasions by their researcher – Bogusław Nowowiejski.

    The paper focuses on the semantic analysis of lexical borrowings of English origin used in informal spoken Polish. The study is based on the corpus, collected and analyzed by the present author. First, general information is given about the corpus, followed by the description of the methodological problems associated with studying lexical loans in spoken language. The main part of the paper focuses on the description of the loans found in the corpus. Special attention is paid to the newest borrowings, not noted in the dictionaries of Polish and/or dictionaries of foreign terms.

    Out of concern for language ‘purity’ ‘Polonizing’ dictionaries/dictionaries of Polish equivalents were published in Poland, whose authors (language purists) aimed to replace words/expressions of foreign origin with native-language equivalents (or with assimilated loanwords). Besides Latinisms or Gallicisms under criticism were also German loanwords. The main focus of the paper is on the presentation of the dictionary by E.S. Kortowicz (1891), in which the author seeks to eliminate Germanisms from the Polish language.
    W trosce o „czystość” językową w Polsce tworzone były „słowniki spolszczające”/,,słowniki spolszczeń”, w których autorzy (puryści językowi) próbowali zastępować wyrazy/wyrażenia pochodzenia obcego rodzimymi ekwiwalentami (lub zasymilowanymi zapożyczeniami). Obok latynizmów czy galicyzmów piętnowano w nich często zapożyczenia z języka niemieckiego. Centralną część publikacji stanowi opis pracy E.S. Kortowicza (1891), w której autor dąży do wyeliminowania germanizmów z języka polskiego.
