    This paper describes the possibilities of the diachronic description of Polish inflection by the Chronofleks system and using it in academic didactics of historical linguistics classes. In new didactic seems necessary to use solutions based on new technologies that use students’ digital skills. Therefore, the observations carried out were to check the extent to which Chronofleks is helpful both in verifying the information available in academic textbooks and in the independent acquisition of knowledge by students. Three grammar issues were selected for research: Kopczyński’s rules, distribution of historic singular endings of male nouns, and ending frequency of the first person plural of verbs. The tests showed that a student can successfully learn the morphology of old Polish using the Chronofleks tool. In addition, Chronofleks allows you to implement a self-study teaching model.

    The focus of the author’s interest is the overwiev of various problems within the field of inlection. The author differentiates between the internal and external inflection and highlights paradigmatics and the descriptions of inflectional catergories. According to her, the research perfomed by Jerzy Kuryłowicz marked the breakthrough in the field and resulted in the introduction of the term: isomorphism. Structural descriptions were particularly important (the approaches of I. Bajerowa, M. Honowska,W.Rzepka), as well as normative ones (H. Satkiewicz and W. Książek – Bryłowa). The author compiles also the works concerned with literary language and inflectional categories in the history of the Polish language.

    Opis:
    Authors of this paper present a development of a visual web dictionary based on automatic extraction of verbs and their attributes from texts using the inflection dictionary of Polish language. Entries of the designed dictionary are based on triples: subject (agent) + predicate (action) + object/tool. The paper describes a prototype implementation of such a dictionary. In the paper the background for the research is presented as well as the considered problem is outlined. Moreover, the structure of the inflection dictionary of Polish language is described along with the classification of computer dictionaries. In the implementation part of the paper, the architecture of the developed web dictionary and the extraction algorithm are described.

    The subject matter of this paper is Chronofleks, a computer system (http://chronofleks.nlp.ipipan.waw.pl/) modelling Polish inflection based on a corpus material. The system visualises changes of inflectional paradigms of individual lexemes over time and enables examination of the variability of the frequency of inflected form groups distinguished based on various criteria. Feeding Chronofleks with corpus data required development of IT tools to ensure an inflectional processing sequence of texts analogous to the ones used for modern language; they comprise a transcriber, a morphological analyser, and a tagger. The work was performed on data from three historical periods (1601–1772, 1830–1918, and modern ones) elaborated in independent projects. Therefore, finding a common manner of describing data from the individual periods was a significant element of the work.

    This paper describes a forgotten historical grammar book of Polish, which was published in the form of a multiplied typescript as a compilation of notes from the lectures delivered by Jan Otrębski at the Stefan Batory University of Vilnius in the 1930s. The notes were compiled by Otrębski’s student, Józef Trypućko. The study was published in 1933 and 1934 in two parts: one and three. Part two probably remained in the form of a manuscript. In the opinion of the authors, the study, although incomplete, provides an insight in the content of Otrębski’s lectures and the teaching of the historical grammar of Polish in Vilnius in the 1930s. It presents also the scholar’s innovative hypotheses, which cannot be found in the historical grammar books of that time.

    Walenty Szylarski is the author of two Polish grammar books, one in the form of manuscript of 1767 and the other one published in Lviv in 1770. The subject matter of the analysis is fi ve normative resolutions proposed by Szylarski. They concerned: 1) the use of a diacritic over a, 2) the position of ą in the alphabet; 3) the spelling of j before a vowel; 4) the nominative and accusative cases of singular neuter nouns ending with -ę; 5) the instrumental and locative cases of singular and instrumental case of plural masculine and neuter adjectives. Szylarski’s suggestions concerning orthography had two basic causes: one was the lack of standardised, generally accepted rules of o rthography (fl uctuations in the use of endings), the other was the incompatibility of the spelling convention and the properties of language in use (j, -ę in the fi nal position, position of ą in the alphabet, use of a diacritic over the conjunction a). Some of the orthographic proposals were noticed, while others were not.

    The Polish language in Soviet Russia in the interwar period and the Polish language in Soviet Belarus (based on selected features of noun inflexion)In this present paper the author makes an attempt to compare several specific features of noun inflexion excerpted from “Trybuna Radziecka” with the adequate material from the Belarussian press published in the interwar period too. “Trybuna Radziecka” was the Polish newspaper published in Moscow from 1927 to 1938 and edited by Polish Communists, living as political émigrés in the post-revolution Soviet Russia. The Polish language (including the language of the Polish press) in Soviet Russia was subject to two powerful mechanisms: communist propaganda and totalitarianism. The language of the Polish press is characteristic of numerous divergences in relation to general Polish especially in vocabulary (the lexical level is dominated by the Russicisms and Sovietic elements). Comaparative analysis shows that the deviations from the general Polish occurred in both sources, but the specific inflexion features are not numerous. The flexion level is arisen under the influence of foreign language system (Belarussian and Russian). All the regional features still function in the postwar Northern Borderland Polish. Польский язык в советской России в период между первой и второй мировой войнами и польский язык в советской Белоруссии (на избранных примерах флексии имени существительного)В статье сопоставлен язык газеты „Trybuna Radziecka”, издаваемой польскими коммунистами в Москве в межвоенный период, с языком польской прессы, публикуемой в советской Белоруссии в то же веремя. Анализ ведётся на избранных примерах флексии имени существительного. Большинство явлений отмечено в обоих источниках. Следует подчеркнуть, что почти все представленные особенности флексии существительного появились вследствие восточнославянского воздействия, прежде всего русского. Некоторые отклонения представляют собой общепольские тенденции того времени (напр. колебания -i (-y) // -owie в именительном падеже существительных м.р. типа liberali или колебания ø // -i в родительном падеже мн.ч. существительных ж.р. типа czytelń). Как показало исследование, все указанные явления в области флексии зафиксированы также в послевоенной вильнюсской прессе. Автор подчёркивает, что ком мунистическая пропаганда и тоталитаризм оставили на польском языке (включая язык польской прессы) в советской России в межвоенный период сильный отпечаток (особенно в лексике).

    The aim of the article is to analyse the inflectional errors in texts written by Slovenian students of Polish Studies in Ljubljana. The collision of two grammatical systems (in this case: Polish and Slovenian) leads to numerous mistakes. As a result the inflectional errors appear in both spoken and written texts. The incorrect forms have been analysed in the article and the reason for their occurance described. Special attention was paid to mistakes that can result from the influence of the Slovenian language. The analysed material was gathered by the author of the article herself and it comes from the written works of the Polish language students from Ljubljana. The analyses aim to explain the reasons for the errors. This should result in reflection on the effective methods of teaching that could prevent the occurance of such errors.

    The number of students with the experience of migration has been growing year by year in Polish schools. They need to learn Polish relatively fast for educational purposes. This paper presents, based on a pilot glottodidactic experiment, the observations of how foreign children could be helped to learn Polish using simple math exercises. The demonstrated outline of the didactic innovation is aimed at showing how the repeatability of language sequences in the narration of the exercises affects the development of students’ grammatical and lexical competence.

    The article discusses a regional variety of Polish spoken in Kiyv preserved in the Polish-Latin panegyrics composed by Stefan Jaworski (1656(8)–1722) to venerate Warłam Jasiński. The analysis aims at drawing a catalogue of phonetic, inflectional, word formation and syntactic idiolectal features of this variety as juxtaposed against the 17th century standard Polish. The analysis reveals the poet’s fluency in a language that was foreign (second) to him. This fluency also covers the poet’s skill in using varietal forms to achieve artistic aims. The regional forms subject to the study often display closeness to the ones in the Borderland variety of Polish, yet with an idiolectal inflectional features, e.g.: a large number of participles ending in -owszy or frequent cases of l/ł alternation.

Podstawą materiałową rozważań jest zbiór 235 form miejscownika lp. rzeczownika dom (domu, domie) i 3 przykłady formy doma wyekscerpowane z nagrań dokonanych w 4 podstawowych enklawach polskojęzycznych, tj. na obszarze ignalińskim, jezioroskim, kowieńskim i wileńskim.
    In this article, the author presents alternative forms of the locative case in the singular of the masculine noun dom: (w) domu – (w) domie (i.e. one which complies with the general Polish standard and a parallel one, a result of levelling an inflection ending to the remaining hard-stem masculine nouns) in Polish dialects in Lithuania, their ranges and frequency. The article is based on a collection of 235 forms of the locative case singular of the noun dom (domu, domie) and 3 examples of the form doma, excerpted from recordings made in 4 major Polish-speaking enclaves i.e. Ignalin, Jeziorosk, Kaunas and Vilnius.

    [Opierając się na zagranicznej literaturze anglojęzycznej, Autor artykułu podejmuje próbę skonfrontowania najnowszych wyników badań dotyczących supletywizmu z danymi języka polskiego, a więc parami fleksyjnymi typu człowiek : ludzie, jest : są. Opracowania na temat supletywizmu w polskiej literaturze językoznawczej są dość ubogie i z reguły nie wychodzą w znaczący sposób poza odnotowanie przykładowych par tematów supletywnych. Z drugiej strony istnieje obecnie różnorodne i teoretycznie podbudowane piśmiennictwo dotyczące skali i roli tego zjawiska w innych językach. Na szczególną uwagę zasługują prace typologiczne zainicjowane przez badaczy skupionych w Surrey Morphology Group w Wielkiej Brytanii; efektem tych prac jest m.in. tzw. Surrey Suppletion Database. Nawiązując do tego rodzaju badań, autor artykułu przedstawia zakres i stosowane definicje pojęcia supletywizmu (por. np. definicję według Mielczuka: „supletywizm jest to relacja między znakami X i Y polegająca na tym, że różnica semantyczna między X i Y jest maksymalnie regularna, podczas gdy różnica fonologiczna jest maksymalnie nieregularna”). Wskazano na odmienności czy wręcz sprzeczności w interpretacji omawianego pojęcia w dostępnej literaturze. Chodzi m.in. o status tzw. supletywizmu słowotwórczego (leksykalnego), rozróżnienie między wariantami supletywnymi tematów i afiksów czy też różnice między supletywizmem pełnym i częściowym. Osobliwości omawianego zjawiska przedstawiono na szerszym tle nieregularności formalnej we fleksji. Dość szczegółowo zanalizowano charakterystykę frekwencyjną leksemów supletywnych we współczesnej polszczyźnie. Osobnym problemem omawianym w artykule są przypadki derywatów w języku polskim, mających za podstawę pospolite formy supletywne. Występowanie tego rodzaju przypadków rzuca nowe światło na istotny problem teoretyczny, jakim jest charakter reprezentacji leksykalnej wyrazów złożonych. Istnienie derywatów od form supletywnych zdaje się dość jednoznacznie wskazywać na to, że formy te mają status samoistnych jednostek leksykalnych, dzięki czemu mogą podlegać procesom słowotwórczym. Stanowisko to jest podzielane w większości publikacji zajmujących się strukturą wewnętrzną słownika, jakkolwiek występują rozbieżne opinie dotyczące szerszej kwestii ewentualnych różnic między sposobem przechowywania w słowniku regularnych form fleksyjnych i formacji słowotwórczych.

    This article presents the phonetic and inflection linguistic changes in the three editions of Krzysztof Kluk’s The trees, garden herbs and gardens (edit. 1777, 1797, 1808). The first part of the analysis focuses on those changes that are consistent with the evaluation of the Polish nationwide standardized language at the turn of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. The second part of the article presents linguistic changes where the modern and correct forms are changed into the older one, consistent with the north-eastern Polish language of the Eastern Borderlands. Ascertaining why the editors of Kluk’s book used the older linguistic forms instead of the correct forms, leads to attempts to determine the standard linguistic norms in the Piarists’ printing house during the very short period at the turn of the eighteenth and the nineteenth centuries.

    The subject of this study is inflection of nouns in Książki o wychowaniu dzieci [...] (Cracow 1558) by Erazm Gliczner. The main research aim was verifying progressive of standardisation of the Polish language in comparison to the first part of the sixteenth century. Due to the fact that sixteenth century was a time of the biggest development of Polish language changes were dynamic. Presented research results are only general trends but they show us a progress of normalization. Polish author had a good intuition with regard to developmental tendencies of 16th Polish language. He usually was choosing new variants of inflection forms.
