Opis:
Thework on “National raw materials policy” as a separate Government document is carried out in order to achieve the economic effects of the exploitation of domestic mineral resources. Other countries adapt such policies to the general national policy. Its creators in those countries are independent scientific and business communities of national and global importance. An example of the creation of such a policy is Robert Friedland’s geological exploration school in Canada. It is successful on both a national and global scale. Its essence is not a rigid document , but the mobilization of the mos ttalented people in this sector, which are focuse daround a political scientist, who is familiar not only with the geology, but also has knowledge about people of thi sprofession.Only this kind of policy could be comparably successful to the post-war “Polish geological school” that was organized on a basis of similar principles as that in Canada.

Opis:
Władysław Szajnocha (1857-1928), Polish geologist and palaeontologist, graduated from the University of Vienna and the Vienna Technische Hochschule. He was a researcher in the geology of the Carpathians, co-author of the Geological Atlas of Galicia, researcher of Jurassic brachiopods of the Balin Oolite and the Eastern Carpathians, and author of books on mineral deposits and mineral springs of Galicia. As a professor at the Jagiellonian University in Cracow he created a significant research centre called the “Cracow geological school”. He was the initiator and co-organizer of the Mining Academy in Cracow in 1919 (currently the AGH University of Science and Technology), and the Polish Geological Society in 1922, being its first President. Jan Nowak (1880-1940), graduated from the University of Lviv, professor at the Jagiellonian University in Cracov. Researcher of the geology of the Carpathians and petroleum geology. He was the creator of the original concept of tectogenesis of the Carpathian flysch belt. Jan Nowak conducted geological research in the Polish Lowlands and created the first synthetic monograph on the tectonics of Poland. He worked on the palaeontology of Upper Cretaceous cephalopods, their systematics and phylogeny. He was imprisoned in a German concentration camp and died shortly after being released. Marian Książkiewicz (1906-1981) graduated from the Jagiellonian University in Cracow and professor at this university. Researcher of the Carpathians and Carpathian flysch, creator of the “Polish sedimentological school” and the world's first palaeogeographic reconstructions of flysch basins. He was involved in ichnology and developed a rich collection and a monograph on organic hieroglyphs occurring in the Carpathian flysch sediments, being a work of worldwide significance. He authored a tectonic synthesis of the Polish Carpathians.

Opis:
Professor Bohdan Swiderski (1892-1943) was one of the most outstanding Polish tectonicians of the Carpathians. In 1911-1917 he studied in Switzerland at Prof. Maurice Lugeon, a famous Alpine geologist, and was a collaborator of the Swiss Geological Commission. From 1919, Bohdan Swiderski was interested in the Carpathian geology, especially in studying the Eastern Flysch Carpathians, poorly known at those times. As the first researcher in the Carpathians he applied a quantitative tectonic analysis to determine the relationship between the folding style and lithology, carried out geomorphological studies, and was an expert in petroleum exploration. He was a collaborator and an employee of the Polish Geological Institute, a professor at the Jagiellonian University in Kraków and the University of Poznań. After the outbreak of World War II, Bohdan Swiderski was imprisoned in the German concentration camp Auschwitz. He died suddenly in 1943, shortly after his release from the camp.

Opis:
Louis Horwitz (1875–1943), a Polish geologist of Jewish origin. Representative of the Alpine School of Geology of Prof. Maurice Lugeon in Lausanne. He was engaged in geological mapping in the Fribourg Alps. From 1919, he was associated with the Polish Geological Institute in Warsaw. Louis Horwitz conducted a detailed geological study of the Pieniny Klippen Belt, an orogenic suture zone between the Inner and Outer Carpathians. His research has contributed significantly to broadening knowledge of the stratigraphy of rocks composing the structure. Simultaneously, he was conducting mapping work of oil-bearing areas of the Eastern Flysch Carpathians. During the German occupation of Poland (after 1939), he continued research in the Pieniny Mts. Murdered by the Nazis in 1943.
