Polish emigrants would arrive in Denmark from 1893 onwards mostly from Little Poland Cieszyn Silesia. In the total number of 25.000 Catholics in Denmark there were 13.000 Poles. In 1927, 14 nationally foreign priests provided pastoral care who spoke Polish. Polish pastoral care provided by the priests under the jurisdiction of the Polish Primate met with an extraordinary chauvinistic resistance on the part of the missionaries mostly from the Netherlands and Germany. Opposing this process that tended to make Polish emigration lose its identity, the Alliance of Polish Workers in Denmark had taken the role of the Only defender of Poles national and Catholic identity in this country. In its letter to Primate A. Hlond the Alliance asked for rescue. This document shows the scale of the problem, hopelessness of the state and church authorities in Poland, limitations that are attendant on the role of a petitioner. The Poles’ grassroots initiative remained „a silent scream” against the nationally alien priests.

Orędzie biskupów polskich do ich niemieckich braci w chrystusowym urzędzie pasterskim z 18 listopada 1965 r. jest symbolem procesu pojednania polsko-niemieckiego. Jego znaczenie wykracza jednak znacznie poza sferę symboliczną, gdyż dokument ten wpłynął na zmianę we wzajemnym postrzeganiu Polaków i Niemców, zbudował podstawy porozumienia oparte na wartościach takich, jak dialog, prawda, wybaczenie oraz zmienił w Polsce sposób konstruowania narracji o zachodnim sąsiedzie. Badania nad tym dokumentem trwają już od przeszło 40 lat i uwierzytelnione są obszerną literaturą. Dzięki kwerendom w archiwach zagranicznych w ostatnich latach znacznie poszerzyła się baza źródłowa, odnaleziono m.in. rękopis pierwotnej wersji Orędzia sporządzony przez abp. Bolesława Kominka. Niestety, w prezentowanym w ostatnim numerze „Miscellanea Historico-Iuridica” artykule poświęconym Orędziu, jego autor Adam Wójcik nie wykorzystał w wystarczającym stopniu dorobku literatury przedmiotu, przez co zaprezentowany wywód wymaga poważnego sprostowania i uzupełnienia. W tekście zaprezentowano najważniejszą literaturę dotyczącą Orędzia, wskazano błędy i zastrzeżenia do tekstu Adama Wójcika oraz w syntetyczny sposób omówiono znaczenie Orędzia w procesie pojednania polsko-niemieckiego.
The Message of the Polish Bishops to their German Brothers in Christ’s Pastoral Office of 18 November 1965 is a symbol of the process of Polish-German reconciliation. Its significance, however, goes far beyond the symbolic sphere, as this document changed the mutual perceptions of Poles and Germans; built the foundations of an understanding based on values such as dialogue, truth, ands; forgiveness, and changed the narrative in Poland about their Western neighbour. Research on this document has been conducted for over 40 years and is evidenced in the abundant literature on the topic. Thanks to inquiries in foreign archives, the source database has significantly expanded in recent years, including the finding of the manuscript of the original version of the Message prepared by Archbishop Bolesław Kominek. Unfortunately, in the article devoted to the Message presented in the last issue of „Miscellanea Historico-Iuridica”, its author Adam Wójcik did not make sufficient use of the research data available in literature; therefore, the argument he presented requires serious correction and supplementation. This article presents the most important literature on the Message, errors and objections to the text by Adam Wójcik are indicated, and the importance of the Message in the process of Polish- German reconciliation is presented in a synthetic way.

Amoris laetitia apostolic exhortation, dealing with love in the family, by Pope Francis (2016), which is the fruit of reflection of the two Congregations of the Synod of Bishops (2014 and 2015 significantly), fits the mainstream teaching of the last decades in the subject of marriage and family.On June 8, 2018, during the 379th Plenary Meeting held in Janów Podlaski, the Polish Episcopal Conference adopted the document „Pastoral guidelines to Amoris laetitia apostolic exhortation”, published two days later. It is a fruit of a kind of compromise and long discussions held at the same Conference.After showing the genesis and nearly two-year history of the „Guidelines”, the author characterizes it, stressing that it is a pastoral document, and then discusses its content contained in four chapters (Essential elements of teaching of Pope Francis; „The Joy of love” in marriage and family; New pastoral impulses; A call to pastoral discernment and logic of integration in the light of Chapter VIII of Amoris laetitia; Summary).In the author’s opinion, „Pastoral Guidelines” of the Polish Episcopal Conference, although not free of certain editorial deficiencies, constitute a useful pastoral tool in the service for the benefit of marriage and family. He also expresses an opinion that many of the issues raised in this document will find its continuation in the announced “Directory of the Pastoral Care of Families for the Church in Poland”.

Polish-speaking Roman-Catholic pastoral care outside Poland is in most cases based on its own specific structures. Their foundations were laid by the episcopate of interwar Poland. Nowadays in Polish-speaking pastoral centers often three generations gather on the Sunday Mass. This situation puts the chaplain in specific language challenges, including the use of local language in contacts with children and the youth. The way of communicating the truths of faith, liturgical singing and the preservation of customs must also be adapted to such a diverse audience.

Wytyczne Konferencji Episkopatu Polski dotyczące Duszpasterstwa Emigracji Polskiej is a document approved at the 369th Plenary Sitting of the Conference that took place in Warsaw on 9-10June 2015.  The necessity to develop Wytyczne had been recognized by Polish migration communities for a long time. Priests directly working for Poles in exile, together with Polish Council of Pastoral Care in Western Europe under the authority of the delegate of Polish Episcopal for Pastoral care of emigration, made efforts to develop general instructions for Polish-language ministry. Initiators and working committees stated that the document should take into consideration all Polish communities and their priests. Wytyczne is a document addressed to secular and monastic clergy, monks and nuns, who take care of Poles in exile’s  spiritual well-being and to those who participate in taking care of Polish emigrants.
Wytyczne Konferencji Episkopatu Polski dotyczące Duszpasterstwa Emigracji Polskiej są dokumentem, zatwierdzony  podczas 369 Zebrania Plenarnego Konferencji , które odbyło się w Warszawie w dniach 9-10.06. 2015 roku. Konieczność wypracowania Wytycznych była dostrzegana przez środowiska polskiej emigracji od  dłuższego czasu. Duszpasterze bezpośrednio  posługujący Polakom na obczyźnie,  wspólnie z Polską Radą Duszpasterstwa w Europie Zachodniej pod kierownictwem Delegata Komisji Episkopatu Polski ds. Duszpasterstwa Emigracyjnego, podjęli starania o  opracowanie  ogólnych wskazań dotyczących duszpasterstwa polskojęzycznego. Inicjatorzy i  pracujące komisje  uznały, że dokument winien dotyczyć wszystkich środowisk polonijnych oraz ich duszpasterzy.  Z założenia Wytyczne  dokument są  skierowany  do    księży, diecezjalnych i zakonnych, siostry i braci zakonnych, którzy służą dobru chuchowemu Polaków na obczyźnie oraz do tych, którzy   włączają się  w swoich środowiskach w troskę o dobro  polskich emigrantów.

The article describes a pastoral visit by Cardinal Jozef Glemp, the Polish Primate in Great Britain (England, Scotland and Wales) in 1985 and a visit in Ireland in 1988. The author portrays the significant meaning of the visit equally to the Polish Catholic community on the British Isles and to the Primate's unprecedented contribution in building a bridge between the Polish and the British communities. The visit contributed to the better understanding by the British people of the history, mentality and the cultural values of the society of the Polish nation. At the same time it also helped to influence a lively ecumenical dialog between Christian communities in Great Britain. It highlighted to the Western world the difficult political situation of the communist Poland, oppressed by leaders hostile to the church. The visit by Cardinal Glemp assisted greatly in initiating new programmes of helping Poles back home in areas of medicine, culture and society in general. The author reminds us of the significance of the Primate’s visit, vividly commented by the British media: television, radio and the press, which unanimously related with great respect and recognition for the Head of the Polish Church and all its official meetings with the hierarchy of the Catholic and Anglican churches in Britain.

Celem zapewnienie stałej opieki duszpasterskiej w poszczególnych krajach, opiera się ono na współpracy zainteresowanych Konferencji Biskupów, rektorów Polskojęzycznych Misji Katolickich. Współpraca ta aktualizowana jest przez wskazaniami Soboru Watykańskiego II i posoborowe dokumenty Stolicy Apostolskiej. Praca duszpasterska na rzecz polskich emigrantów koordynowana jest przez rektora, który dzisiaj nazywany jest koordynatorem narodowym duszpasterzy języka polskiego. W krajach, w których nie ma rektora polskojęzyczne duszpasterstwo opiera się na strukturach wypracowanych w bilateralnych porozumieniach pomiędzy zainteresowanymi biskupami lub pomiędzy biskupami a wyższymi przełożonymi instytutów życia konsekrowanego.

Ksiądz dr Henryk Hilchen – kapłan archidiecezji warszawskiej. Urodził się 30 lipca 1881 roku w Warszawie. Studiował na Wydziale Chemii Politechniki Warszawskiej i na Politechnice Lwowskiej, gdzie ukończył kształcenie po dwóch latach. W 1905 roku wyjechał do szwajcarskiego Fryburga, gdzie kontynuował studia na Wydziale Prawa i Ekonomii, uwieńczone stopniem doktora nauk politycznych. We Fryburgu studiował także teologię i filozofię. W 1910 roku wrócił do kraju i wstąpił do seminarium duchownego w Warszawie. W dniu 21 grudnia 1912 roku przyjął święcenia kapłańskie. Był wikariuszem we wsi Dobre k. Stanisławowa, w Łowiczu, w Łodzi, a od lipca 1915 roku w parafii pw. Wszystkich Świętych w Warszawie. Od 1915 roku był sekretarzem generalnym Stowarzyszenia Robotników Chrześcijańskich, redaktorem organu stowarzyszeń chrześcijańskich „Pracownik Polski" (1916-1917). W 1919 roku został radnym miasta stołecznego Warszawy, redaktorem miesięcznika „Przewodnik Społeczny”, kapelanem Szkoły Podchorążych Artylerii oraz jednostki wojskowej stacjonującej na Sołaczu. W 1920 roku wyjechał do Rzymu, gdzie wstąpił do nowicjatu zakonu dominikańskiego i podjął studia teologiczne w Collegium Angelicum. Od lipca 1922 roku, na polecenie papieża Piusa XI, służył pomocą dwóm kolejnym nuncjuszom apostolskim w Polsce. Był stałym korespondentem „L’Osservatore Romano" i „L’Avvenire d'Italia". W 1929 roku został proboszczem parafii w Lesznie k. Błonia, a w 1931 roku parafii Matki Boskiej Częstochowskiej w Warszawie, gdzie dokończył budowę kościoła. W 1937 roku otrzymał Złoty Krzyż Zasługi RP, zaś w następnym roku został odznaczony orderem Polonia Restituta. W tym samym roku został wybrany do Rady Miejskiej Warszawy. Przed kapitulacją stolicy był zakładnikiem gwarantującym przestrzeganie pertraktacji prezydenta Stefana Starzyńskiego z Niemcami. Aresztowany przez Niemców 3 października 1939 roku, do końca listopada był więziony na Pawiaku. Mimo zniszczenia 12 września 1944 roku kościoła i plebani podczas niemieckiego bombardowania, funkcję proboszcza formalnie pełnił do lipca 1945 roku. Jakkolwiek od czerwca tego roku został proboszczem w Międzyrzeczu. W dniu 15 października 1947 roku przy kościele Najświętszego Serca Jezusowego w Słupsku podjął się organizacji nowej parafii pw. św. Ottona. Dnia 29 listopada 1952 roku został proboszczem w Tarczynie k. Grójca. W drodze na nową placówkę, 29 stycznia 1953 roku, dostał udaru. Zmarł 20 sierpnia 1956 roku. Spoczął na Powązkach. Na bieżąco prowadził dokumentację swego życia i działalności w postaci dzienników, korespondencji, różnych notatek czy oficjalnych dokumentów. Niniejsze opracowanie egzemplifikuje jego sprawozdanie z pracy wśród robotników polskich we Francji w czasie tygodni letnich 1924 roku. Dokument oryginalny w formie maszynopisu przechowywany jest w Archiwum Archidiecezjalnym w Gnieźnie, Archiwum Prymasa Polski, Akta Protektora Wychodźstwa Polskiego, Francja – PMK Varia, Dział III/15a.
Rev. Henryk Hilchen, PhD, priest of the Archdiocese of Warsaw, was born on 30 July 1881 in Warsaw. Hilchen studied at the Faculty of Chemistry of the Warsaw University of Technology and at the Lviv Polytechnic, where he completed his education after two years. In 1905, he went to Freiburg, Switzerland, where he continued his studies at the Faculty of Law and Economics, culminating in the degree of Doctor of Political Science. In Freiburg he also studied theology and philosophy. In 1910, he returned to Poland and joined the theological seminary in Warsaw. Ordained a priest on 21 December 1912, he was vicar in the village of Dobre near Stanisławów, and then in Łowicz, in Łódź and – starting in July 1915 – in the parish of All Saints in Warsaw. In 1915 he became secretary general of the Association of Christian Workers and editor at the Christian association known as ‘Pracownik Polski’ (1916-1917). In 1919 he became a city councillor of Warsaw, editor of the monthly magazine  Przewodnik Społeczny’ and chaplain of the School of Artillery Cadets and of the military unit stationed in Sołacz. In 1920 he went to Rome, where he entered the novitiate of the Dominican order and took up theological studies at Collegium Angelicum. Beginning in July 1922, by order of Pope Pius XI, he provided assistance to two successive apostolic nuncios in Poland. He was a regular correspondent for L’Osservatore Romano and L’Avvenire d’Italia. In 1929 he became the pastor of a parish in Leszno near Błonie and in 1931 of Our Lady of Częstochowa in Warsaw, where he completed the construction of a church. In 1937, he received the Gold Cross of Merit of the Republic of Poland, and in the following year was awarded the Order of Polonia Restituta. In the same year he was elected to the Warsaw City Council. Before the city’s capitulation, he was a hostage who guaranteed that President Stefan Starzyński’s negotiations with the Germans would be respected. He was arrested by the Germans on 3 October 1939 and was imprisoned in Pawiak prison until the end of November. Despite the destruction of the church and rectory during a German bombing on 12 September 1944, he formally served as pastor until July 1945. In June of that year, he became the parish priest in Miedzyrzecz. On 15 October 1947, at the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Słupsk, he undertook to organise a new parish dedicated to St Otto. On 29 November 1952 he became the parish priest in Tarczyn near Grójec. On his way to the new facility, on 29 January 1953, he suffered a stroke. He died on 20 August 1956 and was buried in Powązki cemetery. Hilchen kept an ongoing record of his life and activities in the form of diaries, correspondence, various notes and official documents. This article showcases his work among Polish workers in France during the summer of 1924. The original document in typescript form is kept in the Archdiocesan Archives in Gniezno, Archive of the Primate of Poland, Files of the Protector of Polish Emigration, France – PMK Varia, Section III/15a.

Opis:
The Roman Catholic Church has always shared in carrying the help and the care for refugees irrespective of their origin and faith what it is possible to find in his history. The help of the Church assumed different forms and characters. Among them can be mentioned: giving shelter, help with a spiritual and financial character, providing care for orphans, organizing day camps and holidays for children, carrying for the homeless, arranging job placement, language courses, providing legal and psychological assistance.
Kościół katolicki zawsze uczestniczył w niesieniu pomocy i opieki dla uchodźców bez względu na ich pochodzenie i wyznanie, czego można doszukać się w jego historii. Pomoc Kościoła przybierała różne formy i postacie. Wśród nich można wymienić: udzielanie schronienia, pomoc o charakterze duchowym i finansowym, zapewnianie opieki sierotom, organizowanie półkolonii i wakacji dla dzieci, opieka nad bezdomnymi, organizowanie pośrednictwa pracy, kursów języka oraz pomoc prawnej i psychologicznej.

The Bishops' Conference of England and Wales at the plenary session on 8 May 2014 accepted the newly developed regulations concerning the service of the Polish Canonical Mission rector in the Polish-language pastoral mission in England and Wales. The adopted regulations are placed in two compatible documents. The first is entitled "Structures and procedures the role of national coordinator for the Polish Catholic Mission In England and Wales", the second is entitled: "Principles for secular pristers and religious working within the Polish Catholic Mission In England and Wales". On the same date the President of the Bishops' Conference of England and Wales, Cardinal Vincent Gerard Nichols in a separate document confirmed the appointment of Rev. Msgr. Stefan Wylężek to the position of national coordinator/delegate vicar for priests engaged in pastoral work within the Polish Catholic Mission in England and Wales - Rector of the Polish Catholic Mission.In the context of the instruction Pontifical Council regarding Pastoral Care of Migrants and Itinerant People Erga Migrantes Caritas Christi in May 2004 in this paper examines the abovementioned documents
Konferencja Biskupów Anglii i Wali na sesji plenarnej w dniu 8 maja 2014 roku przyjęła opracowane na nowo regulacje dotyczące posługi rektora Polskiej Misji Kanonicznej w duszpasterstwie  polskojęzycznym Anglii i Walii. Przyjęte regulacje umieszczone są w dwóch  kompatybilnych dokumentach. Pierwszy  zatytułowany  jest „Structures and procedur es the role of national coordinator for the Polish Catholic Mission In England and Wales”. Rola koordynatora krajowego/wikariusza delegata w strukturach Polskiej Misji Katolickiej w Anglii i Walii”, drugi nosi tytuł:  „Principles for secular pristers and religious working within the Polish Catholic Mission In England and Wales” . Z tą samą datą przewodniczący Konferencji Biskupów Anglii i Walii kard. Vincent Gerard Nichols w odrębnym pismem potwierdził powołanie ks. prał. Stefana Wylężka na stanowisko national coordinatory/vicar delegate dla księży prowadzących duszpasterstwo w ramach Polskiej Misji Katolickiej na terenie Anglii i Walii w tradycji duszpasterstwa polskojęzycznego w Anglii i Walii Rektorem Polskiej Misji Katolickiej. W kontekście instrukcja Papieska Rada ds. Duszpasterstwa Migrantów i Podróżujących Erga migrantes caritas Christi z maja 2004 roku  w prezentowanym artykule analizuje wskazane wyżej dokumenty.

Ze względu na szczególne położenie Polaków w Niemczech po zakończeniu drugiej wojny światowej i konieczność objęcia ich opieką duszpasterską, decyzją Stolicy Apostolskiej z dnia 5 czerwca 1945 powołany został Ordynariat dla Polaków w Niemczech, który był diecezją personalną. W stosunkowo krótkim czasie i to pomimo bardzo trudnych warunków udało się zorganizować skuteczne struktury duszpasterskie. Główny ciężar pracy spoczywał na parafiach, których liczebność z czasem zaczęła się zmniejszać wraz z malejącą liczbą Polaków w Niemczech. W związku z nowym prawodawstwem dotyczącym duszpasterstwa migrantów w roku 1976 dotychczasowa diecezja personalna dla Polaków została przekształcona w Polską Misję Katolicką w Niemczech. Towarzyszyła temu również zmiana statusu księdza odpowiedzialnego za polskie duszpasterstwo na terenie Niemiec. Nowe struktury okazały się adekwatne do pojawiających się później wyzwań duszpasterskich i dzięki temu do dnia dzisiejszego Polska Misja Katolicka w Niemczech może się rozwijać.
Due to the special situation of Poles in Germany after the end of the Second World War and the need to provide them with pastoral care, an Ordinariate for Poles in Germany was established as a personal diocese by a decision of the Holy See on 5 June 1945. In a relatively short period of time and despite very difficult conditions, it was possible to organise effective pastoral structures. The main burden of work rested with the parishes, whose numbers began to dwindle over time as the number of Poles in Germany decreased. In connection with the new legislation on the pastoral care of migrants, in 1976 the former personal diocese for Poles was transformed into the Polish Catholic Mission in Germany. This was also accompanied by a change in the status of the priest in charge of Polish pastoral ministry in Germany. The new structures proved to be adequate for the pastoral challenges that arose later and, as a result, the Polish Catholic Mission in Germany has been able to develop to this day.

The Armenian Catholic Church in the Second Polish Republic was represented by the Lviv archdiocese numbering ca. 5000 believers. The question whether there was in the Polish Army in the inter-war period military pastoral care for Armenian Catholics has not been unambiguously explained in historiography. The paper seeks to deal with this task. The author explains that in view of a small number of Armenian Catholic soldiers (several dozen persons dispersed in various garrisons, i.e. a fraction of a per mille of all soldiers in the Polish Army), who could take advantage of the ministry of Roman-Catholic priests, such pastoral care did not exist. There was, however, in the army Rev. Franciszek Karkowski (1888-1970) as a chaplain. He was born in a Roman-Catholic family, but was ordained for the Lviv Armenian archdiocese and was incardinated there. As a military parish priest in Łowicz, he ministered for Latin Catholics and in the Latin rite. His role in the case of Armenian Catholics in the Polish Army was „limited to issuing an opinion in matter of this rite, inasmuch as the Field Bishop would demand it” (P. Niezgoda, 1932).

Przedmiotem badań zrekapitulowanych w niniejszym artykule był sposób uregulowania praktyk religijnych żołnierzy w okresie II Rzeczpospolitej. Przyjęto, że przy tak sformułowanym przedmiocie badań eksploracja naukowa dotyczyć będzie zarówno rozkazów odnoszących się do praktyk religijnych sensu stricto, jak i do regulacji, na podstawie których działały duszpasterstwa wojskowe (które były istotnym elementem w kontekście realizowania praktyk religijnych). Analizę przeprowadzono na podstawie treści zamieszczanych w Dziennikach Rozkazów Wojskowych. Umożliwiło to rekonstrukcję sposobu identyfikowania (przynajmniej w warstwie deklaratywnej) aspektów religijnych w Wojsku Polskim w II Rzeczpospolitej.
The subject of the research recapitulated in this article was the way of regulating religious practices of soldiers during the Second Polish Republic. It was assumed that with the subject of research formulated in this way, scientific exploration will concern both orders relating to religious practices and regulations on the basis of which military pastoral work was operated (which were an important element in the context of religious practice). The analysis was carried out on the basis of the content published in the Journals of Military Orders. This made it possible to reconstruct the method of identifying (at least on the declarative level) religious aspects in the Polish Army in the Second Polish Republic.

The article is a commentary to the document of the Law Council and of the Council for Ecumenism of the Polish Bishops' Conference of the 8 March 2022 entitled Pro memoria regarding religious services provided to the faithful from Churches and Ecclesial Communities that do not have full communion with the Catholic Church, which resembles the existing rules in this aspect, with an additional explanation. The article presents the purpose, structure, sources and selected provisions of the Pro memoria and distinguishes their theological and pastoral accents.

Skuteczność duszpasterstwa w warunkach emigracji zależy od bardzo wielu czynników. Należy do nich przede wszystkim właściwe zdiagnozowanie potrzeb emigrantów. Z drugiej strony adekwatna odpowiedź na te potrzeby zależy przede wszystkim od duszpasterzy i możliwości istniejących w poszczególnych placówkach. W niniejszym artykule przeprowadzono analizę tożsamości polskich emigrantów w Wielkiej Brytanii oraz przedstawiono profil polskich duszpasterzy i polskich placówek funkcjonujących w tym kraju. W toku analiz udzielono odpowiedzi na pytania o wiek, wykształcenie, aktywność zawodową, miejsce zamieszkania Polaków na Wyspach Brytyjskich, przedstawiono dane statystyczne dotyczące liczebności polskich dzieci, a także − na podstawie własnych badań empirycznych − podjęto refleksję nad poziomem znajomości przez nie języka polskiego. W drugiej części artykułu udzielono odpowiedzi na pytania o wiek, staż pracy, pełnione funkcje przez polskich księży pracujących w Wielkiej Brytanii. Dokonano także wstępnej charakterystyki polskich parafii personalnych, koncentrując się na ich liczebności, lokalizacji czy infrastrukturze. Przeprowadzona refleksja stanie się punktem wyjścia do dalszych analiz duszpasterstwa i katechezy polonijnej w Wielkiej Brytanii.
The efficiency of pastoral care on emigration depends on many factors. First of all, it is the right diagnosis of the needs of emigrants. However, an adequate response to these needs depends primarily on the pastors and the opportunities available to them in particular parishes. This article analyzes the identity of Polish emigrants living in Great Britain. It describes Polish priests and Polish parishes in the United Kingdom. The analysis provided addresses the questions of age, education, professional activity, the residence of Poles in the United Kingdom, statistical data on the number of Polish children, and – based on the author's empirical research − reflection on the level of their knowledge of the Polish language. The second part of the article answers the questions of age, seniority, and functions performed by Polish priests working in Great Britain. It gives an initial description of Polish personal parishes, focusing on their size, location and infrastructure. The reflection is the starting point for further analyzes of the pastoral care and catechesis for Polish people in the UK.
