    The article presents the role of Zofia Nałkowska in inter-war Polish literary culture. Her activity in the structures of literary life was combined with personal commitment to promotion of young talented authors. While she maintained close bonds with the political elites of the Polish Republic, she also functioned above the ideological divisions, actively supporting authors who were opposed the state. As the only woman she was member of the Polish Academy of Literature. Her participation in the official forms of public life forced her to spend time mostly in male company. At the same time, Nałkowska’s most important relationships, both with women and men, developed in private space.

    Artykuł syntetyzuje rozproszone w relacjach wspomnieniowych i tekstach naukowych informacje: o roli Karola Irzykowskiego w prasowym sporze z lat 1918–1929 o projekty i statuty instytucji, które miały organizować życie literackie i chronić interesy zawodowe pisarzy (Polska Akademia Literatury, Izba Literacka), a także o jego pracy w Polskiej Akademii Literatury istniejącej w latach 1933–1939. Informacje te odsłaniają dynamicznie zmieniające się poglądy Irzykowskiego na Akademię, której projekty recenzował, statut współtworzył, a następnie odrzucił, powołanie jej do istnienia przyjął z rezygnacją, ale własną do niej nominację zaakceptował. Ostatecznie okazał się najbardziej zaangażowanym, a zarazem najmniej poważanym przez innych akademików członkiem tej instytucji.
    This article synthesises information scattered in memoirs and academic texts on Karol Irzykowski’s role he played in the press dispute in the period of 1918–1929 over the drafts and statutes of institutions such as the Polish Academy of Literature or the Literary Chamber, which were supposed to organise literary life and protect professional interests of writers, and also on his commitment to the Polish Academy of Literature, which operated between 1933 and 1939. The collected information reveals Irzykowski’s dynamically changing attitudes towards the institution of the Academy – he reviews its drafts, co-writes its statute, which he then declines, approves of its establishing, yet with resentment, only to accept his own appointment to become its member. All in all, Irzykowski turned out to be the most committed member of the institution, yet at the same time the least respected by other fellow academics.

    Opis:
    The article presents stories of plagiarisms committed by Wincenty Rzymowski, a leading Polish journalist of the interwar period, the editor-in-chief of ”Kurier Poranny” and a member of the Polish Academy of Literature. Plagiarism was discovered by the editors of the right-wing weekly ”Prosto z Mostu”, edited and published by Stanisław Piasecki. Rzymowski in his journalism used excerpts from the work of the British thinker Bertrand Russell In Praise of Idleness and excerpts from the article of the French journalist Jean Prèvost, discussing the position of England against the Italian-Abyssinian conflict. The article focuses on the scope of plagiarism, the reactions of the Polish daily press and cultural weeklies, national, catholic, liberal-left and satirical, as well as the effects of the ruling of the Polish Academy of Literature, which pronounced on the accusation in consequence of which Rzymowski gave up from membership in Academy.

    Opis:
    Polish Literary Bibliography shows the documentation material in an annual order records of the texts of Polish authors, also translated into foreign languages and foreign authors translated into Polish. It notes works in the theory of literature and also history of literature, literary life, literary criticism, theater and film. Is a complete theatrical and film bibliography, presents records of radio plays and television theater. In the years 1954–2000 it appeared in annual cycles, including in 38 volumes material from the years 1944/1945–1988. To the volume for 1985, it was subjected to constant censor interventions. Since 1989, it exists as an online database. The creator of PLB was professor Stefan Vrtel-Wierczyński, who has also established in 1948 Department of Current Bibliography in which the bibliography is being developed.
