    The article describes the problem of using the autobiographical documents of polish ambassadors in Russia after 1989 as a source in analysis of Poland-Russia relations. The author affirms that memoires and extended interviews of former diplomats could be useful in process of reconstruction of past political events. Nonetheless all researchers have to remember that as all sources the autobiographical documents should be subjected to strict procedure of research because they are highly subjective. As examples the author used memoires Mr. Stanisław Ciosek and extended interviews Mr. Stefan Meller and Mr. Jerzy Bahr.

    The Ukraine crisis, which started at the end of November 2013 and in April 2015 turned into armed conflict in the east of Ukraine, had a negative impact on the geopolitical situation of Poland; it compromised Poland’s security and impaired the perception of security among the majority of Polish society. This article’s objective is to outline the direct implications of the crisis and conflict in Ukraine for the security of Poland. These implications include: destabilization of the international security with serious consequences for the security of Poland; an increased sense of threat from Russia in Polish society; increased efforts of Polish foreign and security policy-makers to strengthen military defense potential; reinforcement of NATO’s cohesion and its more active involvement in Polish and Central European security; enhanced cooperation between Poland and the United States in the field of military defense; and increased threats to the economic stability of Poland.

    В статье рассматривается образ Польши, поляков и российско-польских отношений, формируемый российскими СМИ в настоящее время. Чтобы проанализировать этот образ, авторами был рассмотрен ряд публикаций на данную тему, появившихся в российских изданиях в 2014–2018 гг. При этом невозможно было обойти стороной исторические причины российско-польских противоречий, начиная с раннего средневековья и заканчивая XX веком. Авторами оценивается актуальность исторического наследия для современной политики двух стран. Делается попытка определить влияние создаваемого в российских СМИ образа Польши на обыденное сознание учащейся молодежи России. Для этого был проведен опрос студентов первого курса Санкт-Петербургского технологического института. Результаты опроса и комментарии к ним приводятся в настоящей статье.
    The article discusses the image of Poland, the Poles, and Russia-Poland relations, presented by the Russian mass media in recent years. To analyze this image, the authors reviewed a number of publications that appeared in Russian publications in 2014–2018. At the same time, it was necessary to recall the historical causes of the Russian-Polish contradictions, from the early Middle Ages to the 20th century. The authors assess the relevance of the historical heritage for the modern politics of the two countries and make an attempt to determine the influence of the image of Poland created in the Russian media on the everyday consciousness of the Russian students. For this, a survey of first-year students of the St. Petersburg State Technological Institute was conducted. The survey results and comments are provided in this article.
    Artykuł poświęcony jest wizerunkowi Polski, Polaków oraz stosunkom polsko-rosyjskim, prezentowanym przez media rosyjskie w ciągu ostatnich lat. Aby zaprezentować ten obraz, autorzy przeanalizowali szereg publikacji, które ukazały się w latach 2014–2018. Jednocześnie nie można było zignorować historycznych przyczyn rosyjsko-polskich sprzeczności, poczynając od wczesnego średniowiecza, a kończąc na XX wieku. Autorzy podjęli również próbę określenia tego obrazu wśród rosyjskiej młodzieży. W tym celu przeprowadzono ankietę wśród studentów pierwszego roku Petersburskiego Państwowego Instytutu Technologicznego. Wyniki ankiety i komentarze przedstawiono w artykule.

    The annexation of Ukrainian Crimea by Russia and its activities in the eastern part of Ukraine encourage political scientists and experts in international relations and security to conduct diverse analyses. This article aims to reflect on the problem of how, from the point of view of political science, Polish-Ukraine relations should be shaped as well as how Russia’s actions could be explained. Concepts of the following researchers have been used in the analysis: Adolf Bocheński, Hannah Arendt, Hans Morgenthau, Sigmund Freud and the paradigm of realism and romanticism in politics. The conclusions of the discussion are as follows: the course adopted by Polish decision-makers towards Ukraine (and hence against Russia), although understandable in some respects and having a theoretical justification, seems to be in line with the current of the romantic and idealistic political thought. These trends, generally speaking, are discredited in international relations.

    In the years 2014–2015 there was a conflict in the town of Pieniężno lying on the borderland between Poland and Russia, i.e. the exclave of Kaliningrad over a monument of a Red Army general Ivan Chernyakhovsky (otherwise: Cherniakhovsky). Eventually, the bust of the general was dismantled on the 17th of September 2015. By that time it had been illegally divested of inscriptions and devastated. The scale of the dispute over the symbolic domain was not only local and regional, but also international (Polish-Russian, Ukrainian, German and Jewish/Israeli).

    Topic of the article, which consists of two parts, is the picture of Polish-Russian relations in the latest historiography. In the first part, the author discusses the works of Polish scholars concerning the war expeditions of the Republic of Poland to Moscow (the so-called “Dymitriady”) at the beginning of the 17th century, which left in Russian historical memory permanent negative traces, as well as the invasions of the Eastern neighbor on the Polish lands in the 18th and 19th centuries, especially in times of partitions. The second part, a much more extensive, contains an analysis of the fundamental work by Adam Rotfeld and Anatolij Torkunow under the title Białe plamy – czarne plamy. Sprawy trudne w relacjach polsko-rosyjskich (1918–2008) [White patches – black spots. The difficult cases in Polish-Russian relations (1918–2008)], Warsaw 2010, p. 907. It is composed of 16 chapters, each of which contains two articles on the same subject, one by Polish researcher, the second is Russian. They cover the interwar period, World War II and the time after 1945, among others, the Katyn massacre, the Polish October of 1956 and martial law. The author particularly carefully treats issues causing controversy and comes to the conclusion that this valuable work is a huge contribution to the description of topics overlooked, ignored or deformed by propaganda. Draws attention to the objectivity of Russian authors to Polish affaires and a deep understanding of those matters. It can be showed mainly on the example of their relation to the events in Poland in the years 1980–1981. The work was published simultaneously in two languages-Russian and Polish.
    Статья, состоящая из двух частей, посвящена картине польско-российских отношений в новейшей историографии. В первой части автор обсуждает научные труды польских исследователей, касающиеся военных походов Речи Посполитой на Москву (т.наз. „Димитриады”) в начале XVII века, которые оставили в русской исторической памяти прочный отрицательный след, равно как и нападения восточного соседа на польские земли в XVIII и XIX вв., особенно во время разделов. Вторая часть, намного обширнее первой, включает анализ основательного труда под ред. А. Ротфельда и А. Торкунова под заглавием Белые пятна − черные пятна. Сложные вопросы в российско-польских отношениях (1918–2008), Варшава 2010, с. 907. Данная книга состоит из 16 глав, в каждую из которых входят две статьи, посвященные одной и той же проблеме, автором одной является польский исследователь, второй − русский. Статьи касаются межвоенного периода, Второй мировой войны и периода после 1945 г., между прочим, катынской трагедии, Польского Октября 1956 г., а также военного положения. Автор с особой внимательностью относится к вопросам, всегда вызывающим споры, и приходит к выводу, что ценный труд вносит огромный вклад в очищение от лжи тем, обходимых молчанием или засоренных пропагандой. Обращает внимание на объективизм российских авторов при подходе к польским делам и глубокое понимание этой проблематики. Показывает это прежде всего на примере их отношения к событиям, происшедшим в Польше в 1980–1981 гг. Обсуждаемый труд был опубликован одновременно в двух языковых вариантах − на польском и на русском языках.
