The author analyzes the genesis of the Weimar Triangle and its contribution to Polish integration with NATO and the European Union. Despite many differences, and differences in interests between the three partners, the result is positive. Major opportunities for Triangle should be sought in the intensifi cation of cooperation in the Common Security and Defence Policy of the European Union. In the author’s opinion, should strengthen its functioning by the creation of small informal “Weimar Triangle”.

In this paper, the author presents a brief description of the place and role Poland’s in the memoires of the former German chancellor Helmut Kohl. Although, at the first view, it can be assumed that Poland and the Polish politicians don’t appear too often in Kohl’s report, it could be shown after a closer analysis that Kohl refers many times to both of them. Poland aroused a special interest, but also irritation, of the chancellor around 1990 as Germany was re-united and the negotiations regarding the common border between Poland and Germany were carried out, which is depicted in this paper

The subject of the article is the ratification by Bundestag in may 1972 of the agreement between Poland and the Federal Republic of Germany about the normalization of their relationships. This agreement, however was criticized by the then opposition CDU/CSU-fraction, finally was accepted, because of the pression by the allies Germany, but mainly USA. The article exposes the role of Chancellor Willy Brandt as the main advocate of agreement and reconciliation between Poland and Germany.

The political activity of the former German chancellor Gerhard Schröder is shown – in the article – as an example of possibility of interpretation of the historical phenomena. We compared chancellor’s Polish politics with the image fixed in the Polish people collective memory. Also the different Polish and German historical memory was indicated as a factor which have an influence on contemporary politics for example towards Russia.

Opis:
The author presents his understanding of Cultural Studies as an academic field that integrates various disciplines of the Humanities and Social Sciences. On the basis of such a conception of Cultural Science he proposes the concept of Kulturkomparatistik, which goes beyond its conventional philological meaning and enables comparative research outside of Linguistics and Literary Studies. Based on the OECD classification of the Revised Fields of Science and Technology, the author prepares taxonomy of Social Sciences and Culture, which can be compared with each other in two or more countries. The author points out the importance of cultural comparison for raising students’ awareness for the “Other” and the experience of “Foreignness”, for the development of attitudes of tolerance and empathy, as well as the applicability of the results in the social and political practice in each country.

The article compares migration and asylum policies of Poland and Germany with particular attention paid to the events of 2015. Although matters of migration policy do not cause disagreements in bilateral relations, the issue of refugees is potentially controversial. It is not, however, purely a matter of bilateral relations between Poland and Germany, but also those with European Union itself, whose responses to the crisis have been delayed and not very effective. The humanitarian crisis has now become a structural crisis and the solutions proposed by the Commission do not promise to be successful. Moreover, the agreement with Turkey so far has fallen short of expectations.

The article aims to present the stand of relationship between Germany and Poland in context of changes that took place in the EU Common Foreign, Security and Defense Policy and New East Policy of Germany and Germany’s Russia policy deeply influence threw aggressive Russian policy agents Ukraine and adders postsoviet countries. Author also analyses Poland’s “resets” with Germany and Russia and interested in changing German-Russian relationship in the future. German see Russia as a partner due to its global role while Poles see it as a partner due to its geographic proximity and needs to stabilize the region. While Germans do not see Russia as a direct threat Poles understand why Ukraine, Belarus, and the Caucasus see it as a threat. Poland and Germany has consistently supported the strengthening of cooperation between member states within Common Foreign, Security and Defense Policy of the European Union with an aim of making this international organization gain a status of the key player in the international politics in the future.

The EU’s growth strategy for the coming decade (recorded and defined by Horizon2020) and the higher education modernisation agenda force all European countries to establish a more connected and better functioning relationship between the three most important players government, business and higher education institutions (HEI’s) in order to increase employment, productivity and social cohesion. This article explores the development of University-Business Cooperation (UBC) both in Poland and in Germany, shining a spotlight on the various factors influencing UBC, as well as providing a comparison of the two countries. The focus lays on a Polish-German comparison i.e. the compared analyses of the state of UBC in Germany and Poland from the perspective of HEI managers and researchers. Applying a UBC-ecosystem of different factors and action levels (http://ub-cooperation.eu/pdf/ UBCECO.pdf) the major differences of both countries are identified, addressed and commented to offer opportunities for improvements. This paper describes and discusses selected findings of a study, which had been conducted for the European Commission to analyse University-Business Cooperation in 33 European countries by the S2B Marketing Research Centre at Münster University of Applied Sciences.

The author presents available archival and published Italian sources devoted to the last weeks of peace between March/April and September 1939. The materials provide clear evidence that in late spring and summer 1939, an arrangement or agreement betweenPoland and Germany was impossible. The main reason was Hitler’s determined political and economic will to attack and destroy Poland.
Autor przedstawia dostępne materiały archiwalne i opublikowane źródła włoskie poświęcone ostatnim tygodniom pokoju w okresie od marca/kwietnia do września 1939 r. Z materiałów jednoznacznie wynika, że pod koniec wiosny i latem 1939 r. niemożliwe było zawarcie porozumienia lub umowy między Polską i Niemcami. Wynikało to przede wszystkim z politycznej i gospodarczej determinacji Hitlera dążącego do przeprowadzenia ataku i zniszczenia Polski.

Dennis Scheller-Boltz, a well-known and acknowledged German slavist, carries out an extensive and in-depth discussion of the monograph written by Barbara Alicja Jańczak entitled Deutsch-polnische Familien: Ihre Sprachen und Familienkulturen in Deutschland und in Polen [German-Polish families: languages and family cultures in Germany and Poland]. The reviewer rightly emphasizes the novelty, relevance and accuracy of the work as well as the fact that it takes a wide range of aspects into consideration, including not only linguistic but also, among others, sociological and cultural aspects of the examined matter. The reviewer draws our attention to the fact that the conclusions the author of the monograph reaches are based on reliable and up to date sources of information such as Główny Urząd Statystyczny [the Central Statistical Office of Poland] and Statistisches Bundesamt Deutschland [The Federal Statistical Office of Germany]. The form and the organization of the monograph, which in a transparent manner – using a well-constructed, lucid tables and figures – provides the reader with the great abundance of information, are, according to the reviewer, highly commendable.

W artykule przedstawiono pierwsze lata transformacji polskiej polityki w relacjach z ZSRR (Rosją) i RFN (Niemcami), po 1989 r. Opisano proces reorientacji kierunku polskiej polityki zagranicznej i handlowej o 180 stopni: ze wschodu na zachód. Proces ten przebiegał dość łagodnie, by nie burzyć polityki Michaiła Gorbaczowa, popieranej przez Polskę oraz Zachód. Równocześnie polegał na budowaniu więzi z RFN (Niemcami), otwierających „zakotwiczenie się” Polski na Zachodzie. Towarzyszyło temu budowanie nowej „architektury bezpieczeństwa” w Europie. Umożliwiło to w ciągu kilku lat stworzenie bazy dla trwałej obecności Polski w strukturach zachodnich, po raz pierwszy na taką skalę na przestrzeni wieków.
The paper presents the first years of transformation in the Polish policy referring to the relations with the USSR (Russia) and the Federal Republic of Germany (Germany) after 1989. The radical reorientation of the Polish foreign and trade policy from the East to the West was described as well. The process was taking place smoothly not to disturb the course taken by Mikhail Gorbachev, which was supported by both Poland and the West. It rested on building bonds between Poland and Germany, which was introducing Poland to "stay for good" in the Western World. It was accompanied by building a brand new "security architecture" in Europe. It made it possible to create in just a few years the foundation for the longlasting presence of Poland in the structures of the West for the first time ever to such an extent.

The German language in Poland has a very long tradition dating back to the 18th century. Over the centuries, under the influence of historical, political, economic and social factors, the image of Germany and Germans in Poland as well as the attitude of Poles towards the German language have been subject to continual evolution. The aim of this article is to discuss the position of the German language in Poland, mainly in the 21st century. Particular attention is paid to the discussion of the importance of this language in the Polish educational system in the past two decades, and the changing number of people learning, predominantly in primary and secondary education. Moreover, the reasons for the relatively high level of dislike of the German language among Poles (including learners of German) are presented and analysed. The discussion of the current status of German in our country is preceded by a brief historical outline showing the significance of the German language in Poland as well as the attitude of Poles towards this language over the centuries, beginning with the Old-Polish period

The aim of the article is to analyze the European programs of the main political parties in the Weimar Triangle countries. The analysis will focus on the political vision and possible institutional changes. In addition, the position on euro area reforms and (in Polish case) prospects for membership of the EMU will be examined. Another issue is the response to the migration crisis, and views on the future of the internal market, deepening cooperation in defense policy and a vision of the future of EU foreign policy. Finally, brexit issues will be examined. The article will compare the European doctrine of particular countries, then the views of the government (and its party base) and the opposition parties.
