Opis:
Angiogenesis, the formation of new capillaries from pre-existing vascular network, plays an important role in physiological and pathological processes such as embryonic development, wound healing, and development of atherosclerosis. Extension of the circulatory network is also considered to be one the most important factors during cancerogenesis. Inhibition of angiogenesis may lead to inhibition of tumor growth whereas stimulation may improve wound healing. Research achievements suggest the use of plants and their extracts as potential therapeutic agents with pro- or antiangiogenic activity. Since the anticancer and antiangiogenic properties of many phytomedicines have been amply reviewed elsewhere this paper will focus on the treatment of vascular insufficiency in wound healing. Globally accepted herbal drugs are thought to be safe and effective, however, there is a need for more evidence-based confirmation in controlled and validated trials. Among the most frequently studied proangiogenic phytochemicals are ginsenosides from Panax ginseng, beta-sitosterol from Aloe vera, calycosin from Radix Astragali, and extracts from Hippophae rhamnoides L. and Angelica sinensis.

Opis:
The aim of the study was to determine the effect of aqueous extracts of dried mint (Mentha piperita L.) in concentrations of 2%, 5% and 10%, and fresh parts of this plant, in concentrations of 10%, 20% and 30% on feeding of pea leaf weevil (Sitona lineatus L.) and survival of black bean aphid (Aphis fabae Scop.) on the leaves of broad bean (Vicia faba L.), variety “Bartek”. In the studies of the effects of aqueous extracts of mint on the dynamics of Sitona lineatus feeding on the beans leaves, 9 laboratory’s observations in 12-hour intervals was made. Leaves injuries on their edge surface caused by adult individuals were measured. Observations were carried out in 6 replicates divided into males and females. In these researches on impact of water extracts from mint on mortality of wingless females and larvae of black bean aphids, 14 laboratory’s observations in the 8-hour intervals was made. Aqueous extracts of dry and fresh peppermint significantly limited the feeding of pea leaf weevil females, and the extracts from dried material were more effective. Extracts from peppermint caused mortality of black bean aphid larvae compared to wingless females to a greater extent, and the higher the concentration of the extract, the more beneficial effect was observed. An extract from dried material at a concentration of 2% was too weak to effectively combat the larvae of A. fabae, while in the case of aphid females, an effectiveness was only demonstrated for the extracts at the highest concentrations, i.e., 10% of dried and 30% of fresh peppermint.

Opis:
Green synthesis of Zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO-NPs) is a novel and non-toxic method as compared to the hazardous conventional physical and chemical methods. Herein, we report production of ZnO-NPs for the first time using whole vegetative parts of Sesamum indicum L. The aqueous extracts of various parts of S. indicum were used to synthesize nanoparticles in this study. The synthesized nanoparticles were evaluated using UV-visible spectroscopy for confirmation and characterization. The maximum UV-visible spectral absorption peaks were observed from 293 to 296 nm wavelengths. Leaf and stem reaction mixtures exhibited the sharpest absorption peaks of all the variations at 293 nm and root at 296 nm. This study leads to the development of cost-effective ZnO-NPs synthesis with possible further exploration to serve mankind.

Opis:
The aim of the research was the laboratory evaluation of the fungistatic effect of the Zielony Busz (ZB) organic-mineral fertiliser on the linear growth of polyphagic phytopathogenic fungi Alternaria alternata, Colletotrichum coccodes, Fusarium avenaceum, Fusarium equiseti and Fusarium oxysporum. The preparation was applied to the medium (PDA potato-glucose agar) in concentrations of 2% and 5%, compared to 0.05% azox- ystrobin (relative control) and pure PDA medium (absolute con- trol). The strongest antifungal effect of the Zielony Busz fertilizer was found at the 5% concentration in reference to A. alternata (inhibition of colony growth at the level of 50–52% compared to the absolute control; 20–41.7% compared to azoxystrobin) and C. coccodes (18.2–53.3% growth inhibition compared to abso- lute control). Weaker inhibitory effect of 5% concentration of the fertilizer was noted against F. avenaceum (10.5% inhibition of colony growth compared to absolute control) and F. oxysporum (20% inhibition compared to absolute control), but only at the beginning of the experiment. The Zielony Busz fertilizer at a con- centration of 2% caused the surface growth of all tested fungi, especially F. equiseti. The best effects of the fungistatic effect of the fertilizer were obtained in the first days of the experiment (4th day) with a 5% concentration of the product in the substrate. With time, the antifungal activity of fertilizer decreased significantly

Opis:
The aim of the experiment was to determine the effect of aqueous extracts of dried sage (Salvia officinalis L.) in concentrations of 2%, 5% and 10%, and the fresh parts of the plant in concentrations of 10%, 20% and 30% on the feeding of Sitona lineatus L. on the broad bean (Vicia faba L.) leaves. The olfactometry response of the pest (response to olfactory stimuli) was also determined in relation to the sage. Extracts of dry and fresh parts of sage reveal the inhibitory effect on feeding of both males and females of pea leaf weevil, the stronger, the higher their concentrations, however, no apparent differences were registered between the analysed sexes. Dry plant extracts in 10% concentrations and 30% extracts of fresh sage parts caused 2–3 time reduction of Sitona lineatus feeding after 4 days of the experiment. An apparent repellent response of aroma substances originating from sage towards weevil beetles (both males and females) was registered, which suggests potential applications of this plant as a neighbouring plant in mixed stands or, e.g., as a component of border belts.

The biogenesis of nanoparticles recently gained more attention. Here, we report the biogenesis of zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles using aqueous extracts of the leaves, stem, root, flowers and fruits of Croton bonplandianum Baill. at room temperature. Croton bonplandianum is an important medicinal plant used to cure many pathological conditions in the traditional systems of Indian medicines due to the presence of important and specific bioactive compounds in the plant parts of this plant. Aqueous solution of Zinc Nitrate hexahydrate [Zn(NO3)2·6H2O] was used as a precursor and the various plant extracts played as reducing agents. The formation of ZnO nanoparticles was monitored by UV-Visible spectrophotometric analysis. The leaf extract showed strong absorbance peak at 302 nm, stem and fruit at 293 nm, root at 290 nm and flowers at 305 nm.

Opis:
The objective of the study was to examine the effect of aqueous extracts from fennel (Foeniculum vulgare Mill.) seeds at 2%, 5%, 10% and 20% concentrations on the feeding of peal leaf weevil (Sitona lineatus L.) on broad bean (Vicia faba L.). The experiment was conducted in the laboratory, in six replicates. Feeding intensity assessment was conducted by dipping leaves of broad bean in respective solutions of the extracts and determining the area of broad bean leaves, eaten by pea leaf weevil beetle in the 12 hour intervals. In addition, absolute deterrence index and palatability index were calculated. As a result of the observation no significant limiting effect of fennel seed aqueous extracts on the feeding of the pea leaf weevil females was shown. All of the used fennel extracts had inhibitory effect on the feeding of male S. linetaus and the strongest effect of extracts was observed in the first 36 hours of the experiment. The high values of the palatability index (particularly for the females) with relatively low absolute deterrence index, indicate limited possibilities of the use of aqueous extracts from fennel seeds for the protection against the feeding of the beetles from the genus Sitona.
