A series of the disordered Fe3-xTixAl (x = 0, 0.2, 0.45, 0.55, 0.65, 0.70, 0.75, 1) alloys obtained by arc-melting were studied. Directly after melting the samples were mechanically crashed and in that form examined by the structural and Mössbauer effect methods. The alloys were strongly disordered, but it was possible to identify, apart from Fe-bcc phase, the origins of forming such phases as Fe2TiAl Heusler phase, Fe3Al with DO3 structure, FeAl and FeTi with B2 structure and non-stechiometric Fe2Ti Laves phase with hexagonal C14 structure. For Ti concentration up to x = 0.45, the disordered Fe-bcc phase dominates. For Ti concentration from x = 0.55 to x = 1, the Fe2TiAl phase coexists with FeAl phase (for x = 0.55, 0.65) and with FeTi phase (x = 0.7 and 0.75). In a sample with the nominal Fe2TiAl composition of Fe2TiAl Heusler phase, a non-stoichiometric Fe2Ti Laves phase with hexagonal C14 structure was observed.

The aim of the study was to evaluate the ability of Galactomyces geotrichum MK017 for the biosynthesis of 2-phenylethyl alcohol and optimization of the culture medium composition in order to increase the yield of the product. The culture of Galactomyces geotrichum MK017 strain was carried out in the laboratory scale. For isolation of volatiles Solid Phase Microextraction (SPME) has been used. The identification and quantification of aroma compounds produced by examined microflora was determined by gas chromatography and mass spectrometry (GC/MS) system. The results showed that the tested mould Galactomyces geotrichum MK017 shows the potential for the production of 2-phenylethyl alcohol, but also for the synthesis of phenylacetaldehyde, phenylacetic and phenyllactic acids. For the optimization of the 2-phenylethyl alcohol production yield four different medium composition have been tested. The bioprocess of aroma compound production by tested microorganism was the most efficient on the medium composed of sucrose (80 g/l) and L-phenylalanine (21 g/l) and pH value of 5.0. Using this composition in a batch culture of 770 ml volume the highest concentration of 2-phenylethyl alcohol has been obtained – 6 mg/l. At the same time amount of phenylacetaldehyde, phenylacetic acid and phenyllactic acidhas reached 2.2 mg/l, 10.66 mg/l and 32.3 mg/l respectively.
Celem pracy było określenie zdolności pleśni Galactomyces geotrichum MK017 do biosyntezy 2-fenyloetanolu oraz optymalizacja składników podłoża produkcyjnego w celu zwiększenia ilości uzyskanego produktu. Hodowlę pleśni Galactomyces geotrichum MK017 przeprowadzono w skali laboratoryjnej. Do identyfikacji związków lotnych zastosowano metodę mikroekstrakcji do fazy stałej (SPME). Identyfikacji oraz oceny ilościowej uzyskanego związku zapachowego dokonano z wykorzystaniem chromatografii gazowej sprzężonej ze spektrometrią mas (GC/MS). Uzyskane wyniki potwierdziły zdolność badanej pleśni Galactomyces geotrichum MK017 do produkcji 2-fenyloetanolu oraz do syntezy aldehydu fenylooctowego, kwasu fenylooctowego oraz kwasu fenylomlekowego. W celu optymalizacji produkcji 2-fenyloetanolu przetestowano cztery różne podłoża hodowlane. Największą produkcję 2-fenyloetanolu otrzymano na pożywce zawierającej sacharozę (80 g/l) i L-fenyloalaninę (21 g/l) oraz przy pH pożywki na poziomie 5.0. Uwzględniając powyższe zawartości poszczególnych składników pożywki, uzyskano w hodowli okresowej w 770 ml pożywki, najwyższą koncentrację 2-fenyloetanolu – 6 mg/l. Równocześnie w próbie otrzymano aldehyd fenylooctowy, kwas fenylooctowy oraz kwas fenylomlekowy odpowiednio w ilościach: 2.2 mg/l, 10.66 mg/l i 32.3 mg/l.

This research concentrated on the structural stability of γ-alumina (γ-Al2O3 ) was investigated by a combination of differential thermal analysis, X-ray diffractometry and surface-area measurements. The γ –to– θ and then α phase transitions were observed as an exothermic peak at 1000°C–1400°C in the DTA curves. The role of barium oxide as a modifier to stabilize γ-Al2O3  structure has been investigated. XRD measurements show that after calcination at 1000°C for 2 h, a significant fraction of the pure γ-Al2O3  (BaO-free) transformed to θ-Al2O3  while that the transition phase in alumina samples modified by BaO have been reduced significantly. Barium oxide, eliminate pentacoordinated aluminum ions through coordinative saturation and alter these ions into octahedral cations and effectively suppressed the γ –to– α phase transition in Al2O3 , which concluded as improving the thermal stability and porous properties of the experimental samples.

The influence of technological parameters on the transformation of 1-butene-3-ol (1B3O) to bis(3-methyl- 1-propene) ether (2x1B3O ether) and 3-(3-methyl-1-propene)-3-methyl-1,2-epoxypropane ether (1B3Ox1,2EB3O ether) over the TS-2 catalyst was presented. The reaction was performed in a glass reactor at atmospheric pressure and in methanol medium (protic solvent). The optimum conditions of 2x1B3O ether and 1B3Ox1,2EB3O ether obtaining were established by the mathematical method of experiments design (rotatable-uniform design) and after the analyses of the layer drawings.

Opis:
The paper deals with numerical modelling of carbon dioxide capture by amine solvent from flue gases in post-combustion technology. A complex flow system including a countercurrent two-phase flow in a porous region, chemical reaction and heat transfer is considered to resolve CO2 absorption. In order to approach the hydrodynamics of the process a two-fluid Eulerian model was applied. At the present stage of model development only the first part of the cycle, i.e. CO2 absorption was included. A series of parametric simulations has shown that carbon dioxide capture efficiency is mostly influenced by the ratio of liquid (aqueous amine solution) to gas (flue gases) mass fluxes. Good consistency of numerical results with experimental data acquired at a small-scale laboratory CO2 capture installation (at the Institute for Chemical Processing of Coal, Zabrze, Poland) has proved the reliability of the model.

In this study, precipitation of Ca in Al-Mg alloys containing a trace of Ca during homogenization was investigated using a transmission electron microscope (TEM) and calculated phase diagrams. TEM result indicated that the Ca-based particles found in the examined sample are Ca7Mg7.5Si14. From the calculation of Scheil-Gulliver cooling, it was found that the Ca was formed as Al4Ca and C36 laves phases with Mg2Si and Al13Fe4 from other impurities phase during solidification. No Ca-Mg-Si ternary phase existed at the homogenization temperature in the calculated phase diagram. From the phase diagram of Al-Al4Ca-Mg2Si three-phase isothermal at 490°C, it was shown that Ca7Mg6Si14 phase co-exists with Al, Mg2Si and Al4Ca in the largest region and with only Al and Mg2Si in Al4Ca-poor regions. It was thought that the Ca7Mg6Si14 ternary phase was formed by the interaction between Mg2Si and Al4Ca considering that the segregation can occur throughout the entire microstructures.

Opis:
Basophils are one of major effector cells participating in the immune response despite the fact that they constitute a small population of peripheral blood leukocytes. They are activated by cross-linking of an antigen with IgE through FcεRI and then they release a wide range of mediators, implicated in the pathogenesis of allergic diseases. Basophils are essential cells in IgG-mediated systemic anaphylaxis and currently are considered as antigen-presenting cells. This review summarizes recent studies and reports on basophils, their origin and role in the immune response, and their participation in diseases. Widening of our knowledge about basophils can help us to understand better the mechanisms of the complex processes in which those cells are involved.
Bazofile to jedne z najistotniejszych komórek uczestniczących w odpowiedzi immunologicznej, mimo iż stanowią niewielką populację we krwi obwodowej. Ulegają aktywacji w krzyżowej reakcji wiązania antygenu przez przeciwciało IgE do receptora FcεRI. Uwalniają szerokie spektrum mediatorów, co przekłada się na implikacje w patogenezie chorób alergicznych. Odgrywają także znaczącą rolę w uogólnionych reakcjach anafilaktycznych z udziałem przeciwciał IgG, a także jako komórki prezentujące antygen. Ta praca jest podsumowaniem aktualnej wiedzy o bazofilach, ich pochodzeniu i roli w reakcjach alergicznych oraz znaczeniu w jednostkach chorobowych. Poszerzanie wiedzy z tego zakresu jest niezbędne do lepszego zrozumieniu mechanizmów skomplikowanych procesów, w których bazofile uczestniczą.

Measurements of X-ray diffraction and Mössbauer effect were made on a series of Y1-xScxFe2 polycrystalline samples (x = 0.0, 0.2, 0.5, 0.7, 0.8, 1.0). It was found that the system has the cubic MgCu2 structure except for x = 1.0 where hexagonal MgZn2 structure type is stable. The lattice constant decreases with increasing x. The results of Mössbauer effect study at room temperature show that the easy axes of magnetization remain in the <111> direction for the cubic samples and <100> for the hexagonal one. Curie temperatures TC were determined from temperature dependence of the hyperfine magnetic fields. The concentration dependence of the hyperfine fields and TC show similar trends, exhibiting a maximum at x = 0.8. The magnetic and structural behaviour show that, in spite of being isoelectronic, the substitution of Y by Sc induces clear changes in the structural and magnetic properties of the compounds under investigation.

Abstract Room temperature 57Fe Mössbauer spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction measurements are reported for a series of Y1 xTixFe2 polycrystalline samples. Our research shows that except for x = 0 and x = 1, the samples are a mixture of two C15 and C14 pseudobinary Laves phases. Some Ti atoms occupy the crystallographic positions 8a characteristic of the Y atoms in the cubic C15 structure while the rest of them form the hexagonal C14 phase. However, the lattice constant dependencies on concentration x suggest the occurrence of Y atoms in the positions 4f characteristic of Ti atoms in the hexagonal C14 structure. The partial substitution of Ti atoms for Y atoms is responsible for the HMF changes in the cubic phase. Contrary to the situation taking place in the Zr1 xTixFe2 compounds, magnetic arrangement in the pseudobinary hexagonal phases is not observed at room temperature.

Opis:
Goal of the present research was to investigate the influence of V2O5 additive on the structure and dielectric properties of BiNbO4 ceramics. To fabricate BiNbO4 ceramics with V2O5 added the solid state reaction route and pressureless sintering was utilized. Thus obtained ceramics was characterized in terms of its microstructure (SEM), chemical composition (EDS), phase composition and crystalline structure (X-ray phase and structural analysis, respectively). Also dielectric properties in both temperature and frequency domains were investigated. The impedance spectroscopy was utilized for dielectric characterization and the measurements of complex impedance were performed within the frequency range ν =10Hz-1MHz and temperature range T =RT-550°C. It was found that V2O5 additive changed slightly lattice parameters of BiNbO4 ceramics, decreased porosity of samples and revealled relaxation phenomena within the frequency ranges ν =102-103 Hz and ν =105-106 Hz at temperature T>285°C.
Celem niniejszej pracy było zbadanie wpływu dodatku V2O5 na strukturę i właściwości dielektryczne ceramiki BiNbO4. Do wytworzenia ceramiki zastosowano metodę reakcji w fazie stałej i spiekanie swobodne w atmosferze powietrza. Ceramikę poddano badaniom morfologii (SEM). składu chemicznego (EDS) oraz rentgenowskiej analizie fazowej i strukturalnej. Właściwości dielektryczne w domenie częstotliwości (v =10Hz-lMHz) i temperatury (T =RT-550°C) zbadano przy pomocy spektroskopii impedancyjnej. Stwierdzono, że dodatek V2O5 powoduje niewielką zmianę parametrów komórki elementarnej, zmniejsza porowatość ceramiki oraz pozwolił zaobserwować zjawiska relaksacyjne występujące w dwóch zakresach częstotli- wości: v = 102-103 Hz oraz v =105-106 Hz w temperaturze T>285°C.

The results of the studies on the influence of the phase transfer catalyst on the epoxidation of (Z,E,E)-1,5,9-cyclododecatriene (CDT) to 1,2-epoxy-5,9-cyclododecadiene (ECDD) in the H2O2/H3PW12O40 system by a method of phase transfer catalysis (PTC) were presented. The following quaternary ammonium salts were used as phase transfer catalysts: methyltributylammonium chloride, (cetyl)pyridinium bromide, methyltrioctylammonium chloride, (cetyl)pyridinium chloride, dimethyl[dioctadecyl(76%)+dihexadecyl(24%)] ammonium chloride, tetrabutylammonium hydrogensulfate, didodecyldimethylammonium bromide and methyltrioctylammonium bromide. Their catalytic activity was evaluated on the basis of the degree of CDT and hydrogen peroxide conversion and the selectivities of transformation to ECDD in relation to consumed CDT and hydrogen peroxide. The most effective PT catalysts were selected based on the obtained results. Among the onium salts under study, the epoxidation of CDT with hydrogen peroxide proceeds the most effectively in the presence of methyltrioctylammonium chloride (Aliquat® 336) and (cetyl)pyridinium chloride (CPC). The relatively good results of CDT epoxidation were also achieved in the presence of Arquad® 2HT and (cetyl)pyridinium bromide.

The results of 1-buten-3-ol (1B3O) epoxidation with 30% hydrogen peroxide over the Ti-Beta catalyst were presented. The studies were performed under the atmospheric pressure and at the presence of methanol as a solvent. There was examined the influence of the following parameters: the temperature (0 - 60°C), the molar ratio of 1B3O/H2O2 (1:1 - 5:1), methanol concentration (5 - 90 wt%), the Ti-Beta catalyst concentration (0.1 - 5.0 wt%) and the reaction time (0.5 - 5.0 h). The optimal parameters were determined by using the following functions: the selectivity of the transformation to 1,2-epoxy-3-butanol (1,2E3B) in relation to 1B3O consumed, the selectivity of the transformation to organic compounds in relation to hydrogen peroxide consumed, the conversions of 1B3O and hydrogen peroxide. The main product of epoxidation was 1,2-epoxy-3-butanol, epoxide having several applications.

In this research, we investigated the effects of reduction atmospheres on the creation of the Mo-Si-B intermetallic compounds (IMC) during the heat treatments. For outstanding anti-oxidation and elevated mechanical strength at the ultrahigh temperature, we fabricated the uniformly dispersed IMC powders such as Mo5SiB2 (T2) and Mo3Si (A15) phases using the two steps of chemical reactions. Especially, in the second procedure, we studied the influence of the atmospheres (e.g. vacuum, argon, and hydrogen) on the synthesis of IMCs during the reduction. Furthermore, the newly produced IMCs were observed by SEM, XRD, and EDS to identify the phase of the compounds. We also calculated an amount of IMCs in the reduced powders depending on the atmosphere using the Reitveld refinement method. Consequently, it is found that hydrogen atmosphere was suitable for fabrication of IMC without other IMC phases.

2-phase composites are often used for high demanding parts that can undergo impact loads. However, most of the papers on dynamic loading concerns layered composites. In our opinion, the impact loads are not considered thoroughly enough. Good examples of 2-phase composites are: (1) a WC/Co cermet or (2) a monolithic ceramic Al2 O3 /ZrO2 . The WC/Co cermet is often modelled as having ductile elasto-plastic Co matrix and ideally elastic WC grains. It is because of very high crushing resistivity of the WC. In this paper, we present an extension to earlier elaborated models ([44]) with the assumption of ideal elasticity of the grains. The new and general numerical model for high-velocity impact of the 2-phase composites is proposed. The idea of this novelty relies on the introduction of crushability of grains in the composite and thermo-mechanical coupling. The model allows for description of the dynamic response both composite polycrystals made of: (1) 2 different purely elastic phases (e.g. Al2 O3 /ZrO2 ) or (2) one elastic phase and the second one plastic (e.g. cermet WC/Co), or (3) 2 elasto-plastic phases with different material properties and damage processes. In particular, the analysis was limited to the cases (2) and (3), i.e. we investigated the WC/Co polycrystal that impacted a rigid wall with the initial velocity equal to 50 m/s.

The article presents the results of studies on the effects wrought on the corrosion resistance of the alloy matrix phase inter-metallic FeAl. Researches were carried out on the Fe40Al5Cr0.2TiB alloy and involved the oxidation of the samples after the crystallization after plastic deformation made by extrusion. The tests were performed in an oven in air at 1100°C for 100, 300 and 500 h. Determined to change the mass of the samples after corrosion research setting kinetics of corrosion processes, as well as an analysis of the microstructure of the alloy after the crystallization and after forming. The structure was examined using light microscopy and scanning electron microscopy and X-ray microanalysis with EDS chemical composition of the corrosion products. The test results revealed that plastic deformation during extrusion of intermetallic alloy led to structural changes, the effect of which was to improve the heat resistance at a temperature of 1100°C.
