    Artykuł stanowi teoretyczne poszukiwania źródeł niedojrzałości na podstawie studiów literaturowych. Krótko odwołuję się w nim do ram rzeczywistości ponowoczesnej i przechodzę do początków niedojrzałości, które w opinii badaczy znajdują swoje korzenie w okresie mitycznym. Inspirujące stają się tutaj odwołania do psychologii analitycznej Carla Gustawa Junga oraz Marie-Louise von Franz. Wreszcie, ukierunkowanie na dobę obecną, w której idee niedojrzałości zdają się osiągać apogeum, chociaż ich przyczyny wyrastają z zupełnie innych potrzeb człowieka. Moim celem jest krótki rys niedojrzałości, ukazanie wędrówki od mistycznego Hermesa do współczesnego Piotrusia Pana.
    The article constitutes the theoretical search of sources of the immaturity based on literature studies. Briefly I am appealing in it to frames of post-modern reality and I am proceeding to basics of the immaturity which in the opinion of researchers their roots are finding in the mythical period. Here cancellations of the analytical psychology of Carl Gustav Jung and Marie-Louise von Franz are becoming inspiring. Finally, directing a day current, which ideas of the immaturity seem to achieve apogee, though their causes in are growing out of completely different needs of the man. A short trait of the immaturity is my purpose, portraying the walk from mystical Hermes to the contemporary Peter Pan.

    Opis:
    It is impossible to imagine London without its royal parks. One of the most beautiful among them is Kensington Gardens, forever connected with the figure of a boy who didn’t want to grow up: Peter Pan. This article provides an interpretation of James Matthew Barrie’s novel Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens (1906), centred mainly around literary portrayals of garden space, which becomes an embodiment of the paradise of childhood: Arcadia, a pleasant place, locus amoenus, allowing one to exist beyond evanescence, growing up and sadness. Kensington Gardens are London’s green island, primeval Neverland, where the fairy-tale and the magic are rooted: during a day it creates a playing space for “human children,” whereas at night it goes under the rule of Queen Mab and mysterious fairies. The outline of various interpretation paths which can be followed in Kensington Gardens are accompanied by the reproductions and analyses of Arthur Rackham’s illustrations, which in an outstanding way capture the whimsical genius of the author of Peter Pan.

    This paper will seek to test two methodologies theorizing about translating children’s literature, one of which can be termed as the first theory in this field, shaped by Göte Klingberg and the other, polemical to the first one, introduced by Ritta Oittinen. On the example of children’s classic, Peter Pan and Wendy, it will be argued if the both methodologies allow the analysis of children’s literature translation and can justify most of the changes made by translators.

    Artykuł prezentuje wyniki analizy pierwszego polskiego tłumaczenia powieści Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens J.M. Barriego autorstwa Zofii Rogoszówny pt. Przygody Piotrusia Pana (1913) jako przekładu zapośredniczonego. W oparciu o metodę zainspirowaną krytyką tekstów, wewnątrz ramy badań nad przekładem niebezpośrednim, dowiedzione zostaje, że wersja Rogoszówny opierała się na niemieckim tłumaczeniu pt. Peter Pan im Waldpark (1911) autorstwa Irmgard Funcke. Artykuł jest również próbą udzielenia odpowiedzi na pytania o to, jak w wyniku wieloetapowej transmisji tekstu zmienia się profil jego projektowanego odbiorcy; jak za pomocą translatorskich przesunięć tłumaczki „przystosowały” tekst wyjściowy do wrażliwości czytelników (stosując domestykację lub uniwersalizację kulturową); jak zatem – przez pryzmat transferu językowego – scharakteryzować można myślenie o dziecku oraz rolę literatury dla młodych w Anglii, Niemczech i Polsce w początkach XX wieku.
    The article presents the results of the analysis of the first Polish translation of J.M. Barrie’s Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens authored by Zofia Rogoszówna (Przygody Piotrusia Pana, 1913) as a mediated translation. Based on a method inspired by textual criticism, inside the framework of indirect translation studies, I argue that Rogoszówna’s version was based on the German translation Peter Pan im Waldpark (1911) by Irmgard Funcke. The article also addresses the questions of how, due to the multistage transmission of the text, the profile of its projected addressee changes; how, by means of translational shifts, translators “adjust” the original to the sensibilities of the readers (by domestication or cultural universalisation); how, therefore—through the prism of linguistic transfer—thinking about the child and the role of juvenile literature in England, Germany and Poland of the early twentieth century can be characterised.

    Artykuł podejmuje kwestie związane z koncepcją neoplemion francuskiego socjologa Michela Maffesoliego, którą traktuje jako opozycyjną wobec popularnej obecnie w dyskursie naukowym koncepcji indywidualizmu. Autorka polemizuje z teorią płynnego życia, przekonując, iż najważniejszą potrzebą w życiu człowieka jest przynależność do jakieś wspólnoty. Rozważania dotyczące istoty neoplemion odnosi do himalaizmu, traktując go jako formę eskapizmu od wspólnot plemiennych, a jednocześnie jako narzędzie samopoznania.
    The article raises issues related to the concept neo-tribes developed by a French sociologist Michel Maffesoli, which is treated as opposition to the concept of individualism currently popular in the scientific discourse. The author polemicizes with the idea of a liquid life by arguing that the key need in human life is to belong to some community. The reflections on the nature of neo-tribes are referred to Himalayan mountaineering, treated as a form of escapism from tribal communities, and at the same time as a tool for self-discovery.

    Through Orhan Pamuk’s novel, The Museum of Innocence, and Mikhail Bakhtin theory on the chronotope, specifically the idyllic chronotope, the article explores the specific chronotope of love which possesses a dual nature, both specific and timeless. Like all lovers, the novel’s protagonists, Füsün and Kemal belong simultaneously to the particu-lar place and time of their circumstances and the intimate world they create which tem-porarily transcends the boundaries of space and time. This private world echoes that of Adam and Eve, one suspended between the innocence and isolation of a private world and the looming threat of the real world’s interference. This dynamic between the place-less and time-less world of two and its existence within a specific place and time is espe-cially palpable in Orhan Pamuk’s novel, the very premise of which rests on the preserva-tion of a specific temporal period through artefacts, here belonging to Füsün, Kemal’s love. The eponymous museum refers to Kemal’s obsessive gathering and conservation of any item that belongs to her. The meetings of the lovers are dated with a historian’s precision and placed in the exact spot of Istanbul, the author’s beloved city. Kemal and Füsün could be Adam and Eve or any other literary couple following in their footsteps, yet their isolated world is interrupted by the noises, light and smells belonging to Istanbul alone. This specific chronotope belonging to love echoes Peter Pan’s island or Alice’s wonderland but the adult version of this private universe cannot be quite as separate from the real world. The latter can only partially escape and remains halfway trapped in its exact coordinates and time zone. My article ventures the thesis that the children’s and adult’s versions represent a similar effort to create a world of innocence and freedom though to a lesser degree in the second case.

    Osoba dotknięta syndromem Piotrusia Pana może bardzo dobrze radzić sobie na polu zawodowym, piąć się po szczeblach kariery, być osobą towarzyską i lubianą, a więc z pozoru być dobrym mężem lub żoną, ale realizując tylko nieistotne z prawnego punktu widzenia obowiązki małżeńskie, nadal będzie niezdolna do ważnego zawarcia małżeństwa. Do istotnych obowiązków małżeńskich należy zaś zaliczyć te, które warunkują realizację bonum prolis i bonum coniugum. Piotruś Pan nie jest zdolny do budowania wspólnoty małżeńskiej, dążenia do dobra potomstwa, poświęceń, wzięcia odpowiedzialności materialnej za założoną rodzinę, nie traktuje małżeństwa jako trwałego i dozgonnego przymierza. Osoba taka nie jest zdolna do podjęcia i wypełnienia istotnych obowiązków małżeńskich, ponieważ stopień jej dojrzałości okazuje się niewystarczający, nawet pomimo osiągnięcia odpowiedniego wieku. Żyjąc beztrosko, Piotruś Pan potrzebuje opieki i pełnej akceptacji innej osoby, ale bez stawiania mu wymagań.
    A person affected by the Peter Pan syndrome can do very well in the professional life by climbing up the career ladder, being a well-liked person, and thus becoming a seemingly good husband or wife. However, when fulfilling merely the marital obligations that are legally insignificant, he or she will still be unable to conclude a valid marriage. Essential marital obligations include those that determine the implementation of bonum prolis and bonum coniugum. A Peter Pan is not able to build a marital community, strive for the good of the offspring, make sacrifices or take material responsibility for the established family. Such a person does not treat marriage as a permanent and undying covenant, nor is able to face and fulfill important marital duties because its maturity is not adequate, despite being of proper age. While living carefree, it is Peter Pan who needs care and full acceptance of another person, yet with no demands.

    W tekście zasygnalizowano w miarę pełny kalejdoskop sposobów odraczania dorosłości a nieco dłużej zatrzymano się nad opisem tych, które zasygnalizowano w tytule. Przytoczono więc dane statystyczne świadczące o odraczaniu szeroko pojętego samodzielnego życia rodzinnego. Następnie wskazano na zjawiska niepodejmowania przez młodych ludzi stabilnej aktywności zawodowej oraz inne zjawisko, które można nazwać „przedłużaniem dzieciństwa”, czyli niewyprowadzaniem się z domu rodzinnego i życiem na koszt rodziny. Zwrócono uwagę na stosunkowo niską aktywność młodych dorosłych w życiu politycznym.
    In the paper, I outline a tolerably complete range of the ways in which adulthood is deferred, focusing in more detail on the two signalled in the title. On my take, the deferral of adulthood implies the following: non-assumption of social family roles by biologically and legally adult individuals; refusal to live outside the family of origin and earn one’s own subsistence; avoidance of vocational tasks, in particular those involving responsibility for others; avoidance of thoughtful engagement in social and/or political activity; and failure to control one’s emotions so as to react adequately and relevantly to the events at hand. I quote statistics indicating young people’s non-involvement in stable vocational activity and their tendency to „prolong childhood” by not moving from the family home and living off their kin. I highlight young adults’ relative non-engagement with politics. The bulk of the paper is devoted to a detailed description of the eponymous figures of “Peter Pan” and “the eternal girl”.
