Opis:: This paper reviews Paweł Rojek’s book Tropy i uniwersalia: Badania ontologiczne (Tropes and Universals: Ontological Investigations). The subject of the book are the titular notions of tropes (i.e., abstract particulars) and universals. The first three chapters contain conceptual clarifications and the remaining three chapters are devoted to the interpretation of particular philosophers (Roman Ingarden, Thomas Aquinas, Hegel, and George Frederick Stout) in the light of the previously introduced distinctions. The review summarizes each chapter and discusses some objections to the author’s theses.

Opis:: This article is an attempt at creating the outline of the theory of messianism, that would cover both the various versions of Jewish Messianic, Christian, and Islamic, as well as secular. I propose to think of messianism as a transcendental field of origin, therefore as a machine in the sense proposed by Deleuze. This theory reveals the weak points of contemporary Polish Messianic thought, represented by Pawel Rojek and his book Liturgia dziejów.
Artykuł jest próbą stworzenia zarysu teorii mesjanizmu, która obejmowałaby zarówno rozmaite wersje żydowskich mesjanizmów, chrześcijańskich i islamskich, jak i świeckich. Proponuję pomyśleć mesjanizm jako transcendentalne pole genezy, a więc jako maszynę w rozumieniu zaproponowanym przez Deleuze’a. Taka teoria ujawnia słabe punkty polskiej współczesnej myśli mesjańskiej, której reprezentantem jest Paweł Rojek.

Opis:: In his recent book Liturgia dziejów [Liturgy of History], Paweł Rojek argues that Karol Wojtyła was to a large extent influenced by Polish Messianism. Although Rojek’s argument centres around this rather historical thesis, his book is essential reading not only for students of John Paul II’s legacy but anyone interested in the relationship between Christianity and modernity. It is so, because Polish Messianism, according to Rojek, was an early project of Christian modernity. By taking inspiration from the Messianists, Wojtyła was able to combine religious perspective with modern anthropocentrism.
