Opis:
This article presents the Congregation for the Clergy’s reflection on the state of the parish and conditions for pastoral care. The congregation’s most recent instruction entitled The Pastoral Conversion of the Parish Community in the Service of the Evangelizing Mission of the Church presents the authors’ vision for renewal of the parish community and pastoral care within the parish setting. This article is the first of its kind to present the bases for, the conditions of, and the direction that such renewal should take. The need for renewal stems primarily from ongoing cultural changes that are taking place in the modern world. The renewal should transform the parish into a sanctuary where the Word of God is proclaimed in a way that the faithful understand. The parish should become a place of deep devotion to the Eucharist and a shelter for every person in need. In order to renew the parish, it is necessary to change parish structures. It is also fitting to introduce changes concerning the agents of pastoral care and to engage the laity in pastoral care of the parish. Through textual and comparative analysis as well as textual criticism, the author presents the model of parish pastoral care according to the Instruction The Pastoral Conversion of the Parish Community in the Service of the Evangelizing Mission of the Church.

Opis:
St. Michael Archangel’s parish (formerly St. Martin’s parish) in Zebrzydowice, near Kalwaria Zebrzydowska, was established in the Middle Ages on the land owned by the Radwanita, i.e. knights bearing the Radwan coat of arms. Their descendants included Krakow voivode Mikołaj Zebrzydowski (1553-1620), who restored the Catholic rites in the parish after the Reformation and appointed its priest, providing him with appropriate remuneration. Henceforth, priests were appointed to this position by Zebrzydowski’s descendants, and then by the Czartoryski family from Korzec, who inherited the town after the death of the last Zebrzydowski (Michał, who died in 1667). The article discusses, among other subjects, the conditions in which the clergy worked in the Old Polish period. Biographical entries concerning eighteen priests in Zebrzydowice show that they were typical representatives of the 17th/18th century clerical estate. However, the fact that the group included six priests with academic degrees, five of whom were active lecturers at the University of Krakow, reveals a certain irregularity in the then model of a rural parish priest.

Opis:
The origins of the parish in Zemborzyce, which was probably created soon after the foundation of the village, dates back to the beginning of the 15th century. In 1748, the parish of Zemborzyce consisted of six villages: Zemborzyce, Krężnica (a branch), Trzeszkowice, Osmolice, Prawiedniki and Żabia Wola. It was inhabited by approximately 2,000 faithful. In the parish there was a hospital, which was located in an old building. The parish endowment included arable land, a garden, the right to fish on the River Bystrzyca, a brewery and a taberna with propination laws. In 1779, a new presbytery was built. The outbuildings included: a farm house, a granary, a stable, a cowshed, a barn, a shed for oxen, small stables and pigsties. At the church square there was also a building for an organist. In 1784, a new hospital was built. In 1849, the buildings at the church, apart from the presbytery, included: a servants' house, a curate’s house, a hospital, an inn and the following outbuildings: a stable, a coach house, a granary, a cowshed and a spacious barn. None of these buildings has survived until the present day. The wooden church of Zemborzyce was built in 1717, in place of the previous one. It was renovated several times. It was located to the east of the present church, at the former main road through the village, running over the River Bystrzyca. After constructing the brick church, which exists today, the old church was moved to Motycze near Lublin in 1918. The  neo-Gothic brick church, which survived to the present day, was built in 1906-1907. It was designed by the architect of Radom, Augusta Załuski.

Opis:
The requirement to keep the records of births, baptisms, marriages and deaths was decreed in 1563 by the Council of Trent. In Poland, this requirement started being observed quite soon, already at the end of the 16th century. In the parish of Korczew, the keeping of such records began in 1603. Until the World War II the registers for the years 1649–1805 were kept in the parish archive, from where they were taken away by the Nazis and most probably were destroyed. A preserved inspection report contains a list of these documents, which was included in an article for those who are interested in demographic research. Fortunately, the registers for the years 1806–1945 have survived and are kept in the Diocese Archive in Włocławek, the State Archive in Łódź and the Registry in Zduńska Wola. They contain a wealth of information interesting for both historians engaged in professional research and persons looking for records concerning their predecessors.

The article aims at presenting the resources of the Archive in the Parish of St. Adalbertus in Rydzewo near Rajgród which is dated from 1810 to 2000. The author studies acts among which there are many not obligatory today. Therefore the structure of the article does not follow the present order of parish archives. The important fact is that the Rydzewo Parish acts base mainly on registers dated in XIX century. Since they also contain municipal acts, account, and correspondence, the simple division of the documents is often not possible. The article also mentions the archival material which was annexed by the state archives in the past.

The article describes the origins and development of the parish in Radostowo in 1945. The main attention was paid to changes in the equipment of the church, pastoral development, operation of the parish school, religious associations and pastors. Radostowo was founded in the years 1333-1342. Its location was approved in 1362 by Bishop Jan Stryprock and back the church was dated. The first known probost was Thomas Kranch, mentioned in 1482. In 1888-1890 there was conducted a restauration of the interior. The parish was not large. In 1777 Easter Holy Communion was taken by 726 people and 33 children were baptized. In 1901 (after the parish in Frączki was excluded) Easter Holy Communion was taken by 1010 and in 1941 by 1227 people. After World War II the parish did not have its own parish priest for many years until 1 July 1990 when rev. Jan Mucha became the probost and now rev. Marek Choromański has ministered to the parish.

This article presents the problematic concerning the relationship between the local Superior and the religious pastor in a parish entrusted to a religious institute, when these offices are not held by the same person. The Author presents briefly a historical evaluation of the concept of the religious parish, i.e. the movement from the beneficium to the communitas. According to the Author there are 3 principles organising this commitment: the salvation of souls, the work (opus) of the institute, and the principle of conserving religious identity. Following these principles, the Author expresses his opinion regarding the limitation of the religious pastor as “pastor proprius paroeciae”, and emphasises the fact that the religious pastor is first of all a religious, without any special rights in the religious community. Lastly, according to the Author, it would be better for religious life to use the canonical office of moderator rather than that of the pastor (cf can. 517, 1983 CIC).

Realization of the service of pastorate, at the lowest level of the hierarchical structure of the Church, which is the parish, just like on the remaining levels, requires the fulfillment of definite criteria. One of them is the principle of coordinating all the actions. The parish priest, as the pastor of the parish that has been entrusted to his care, is equipped by the ecclesial legislator with defined coordinating competence. It is connected with the following tasks: sanctifying, teaching and managing God’s People. Among the latter one actions towards the parishioners, the parish curates, the collegial bodies in the parish (the council for economical matters and the pastorate council), as well as towards the rectors of the churches and chaplains should be distinguished.

On 20th July 2020 Congregation for the Clergy issued an instruction The pastoral conversion of the Parish community in the service of the evangelising mission of the Church. This document brings together the previous teachings of the Magisterium regarding the Parish community, approaching them from the perspective of the Pope Francis’s teaching calling for pastoral conversion of the whole Church, which should result in the missionary attitude of bringing the message of Gospel to all the people. Issuing of the instruction evoked different responses. Some of them were positive, praising the presenting of the integrated knowledge regarding the legal basis of the Parrish community functioning, as well as speaking highly of this document in the context of mapping out a wide range of the contemporary circumstances in which the parishes function. Also, providing the inspiration for the renewal of the Parish Ministry was ap-preciated. However, some criticisms were also raised, regarding the lack of new solutions aiming at involving the lay faithful in the life of the Parish community, putting too little emphasis on the necessity of the personal parishes development and the offer of the detailed pastoral methods. The author describes the main ideas included in this document, which has not reached a wider readership in Poland. At the same time, he (1), presents the discussion that the issuing of the instruction has evoked (2), referring to the document itself and suggesting some inspiration for creative searching for the ways of reaching the renewal of the Parish community in the context of the Pastoral conversion (3).

Opis:
A parish is a certain community of the Christian faithful constituted in a particular church, whose pastoral care is entrusted to a pastor (parochus) as its proper pastor (pastor) under the authority of the diocesan bishop. This article takes up the idea of entrusting the parish to an institute or society. The entrusting of a parish can be made either perpetually or for a specific, predetermined time. In either case, it is to be made by means of a written agreement between the diocesan bishop and the competent superior of the institute or society, which expressly and accurately defines, among other things, the work to be accomplished, the persons to be assigned to the parish, and the financial arrangements.

Gródek is a country village whose origin dates back to at least the fifteen century. The first written record of the village dates from 1409. In it is found acknowledgment of Wołczko Rekutowicz from Gródek as one of the founders and a supplier of furnishings to the local church. Originally belonging to the Duchy of Belz, the village together with the Duchy, was incorporated into the Crown of the Kingdom of Poland in 1462. After the first partition of Polish- Lithuanian Commonwealth, Gródek was annexed by the Habsburg Empire, then it became part of the Duchy of Warsaw and following the joint resolutions of the Congress of Vienna it was given to Russia. Today the village situated at the Huczwa river administratively belongs to Jarczow gmina (commune) as part of Tomaszów poviat in Lubelskie Province. During the period the piece of research covers, Gródek was mostly inhabited by Russian people and was an Orthodox parish. It in turn became a Greek Catholic parish following the Union of Brest. The first written record of an Orthodox Church comes from 1507 while 17th century documents confirm the existence of a Uniate parish. Having analyzed post- visitation protocols, it might be deduced that it was a wooden church poorly equipped with ecclesiastical utensils. There was also a bell tower and a cemetery alongside the church. It has been determined a paroch (parish priest) had some arable land as well as grassland at his disposal to support himself. Furthermore, he collected various ecclesiastical fees from his parishioners. From the period of time this research is focused on, personal information of 4 parochs as well as the approximate number of parishioners that varied between 14 and 70 has been established. Furthermore, the church is known to have been functioning in 1772 but it fell into ruin before 1798 after which the parishioners from Gródek attended the branch church in Podlodów.

They are not too detailed, but allow to trace back the date of the consecration of the church and the altars and its equipment. They also offer information about the pastors and teacher and in the case of the 1598 Protocol also the attitude of parishioners to the parish priest. Much attention was paid to material matters as well. From the description of about 1580 we can also learn about the towns belonging to the parish.

According to the Department of Foreign Affairs more and more people come to Poland in order to settle here. Although Poland is considered to be one of the least attractive countries in the European Union for incomers, many of them marry Polish citizens, find a job, study or start their own business in Poland. Such people live in big cities as well as in towns, becoming the members of local communities. Some of them are Catholics of various denominations, others are Christians from other Churches, some are non-believers or remain indifferent to any religion. They all, however, constitute a challenge for pastoral care of the family which aims at bringing them closer to Christ. Parish pastoral care priests, as it is indicated in the teaching of the Church, can undertake various initiatives according to the religious or denominational affiliation of the immigrants and their needs. The forms of assistance of pastoral care priests involve satisfying spiritual, psychological and material needs of incomers. However, the main aim of pastoral care is to integrate the newcomers with the local community.
