Opis:
Over the last decades, built heritage and the conditions of its protection have changed a lot. There has been a significant increase in the number and diversity of monuments. The expectations of contemporary societies regarding the use of heritage have changed as well. As a consequence, the ownership, protection, financing and use of heritage has been privatized. These conditions should be reflected in conservation theory. Conservation theory should be realistic - it should indicate how to protect and use heritage in practice. Therefore, it is necessary to scientifically develop a modern conservation theory. The application of conservation theory which does not take into account contemporary conditions contributes to chaos in the protection of monuments and facilitates the destruction of their values. Therefore, the development of contemporary conservation theory can also be considered an ethical problem.

Objectives: The pathogeny of SARS-COV2 infection is currently not well defined. In this paper, we present a new perspective of how the SARS-CoV2 infection can lead to severe cases and potential pathways of preventing such cases. Methods: In the first part, we describe the role of cyclooxigenase 2 and in the second part, we describe the role of hypoxia inducible factor (HIF). Findings: We hypothesize that cyclooxigenase 2 and hypoxia inducible factor with subsequent inflammation and hypoxia can up-regulate each other in a vicious circle of feed-forward that can ultimately lead to “cytokine storm”. Conclusions: Breaking this cycle early potentially will have beneficial effects either by improving oxygenation (oxygen being given earlier in the course of the treatment) or by inhibiting COX-2. We also believe, that the use of COX-2 inhibitors early in the course of the disease can improve the outcome and clinical trial are urgently needed.

Traditional dissertation has been practised by several generations of students. This exercise has also been commented on by several generations of school system experts. Between commentaries of teachers (before 1980) and those of didacticians (after 1980), some differences of perspective seem to have installed themselves in a relatively stable way. The present article can’t detail the shift between a paradigm dominated by the link between language and thought and a paradigme dominated by a communicative conception of the language. It can however choose a specific aspect of that paradigm shift: the concurrence between two definitions of rhetoric. The definition explicitly rejected but implicitly conveyed by dissertation manuals, tends to mask the situation of communication. On the contrary, the definition of rhetoric used by didacticians insists on the essential necessity of an audience. The present article proposes an analysis of the concurrence between those two definitions.

My reflections are focused on the issue of women's impact in the realm of international relations and world politics. These dimensions are discussed far too rarely in reference to the role of women and if so, majority of the analyses merely touches upon the surface of this phenomenon. Undeniably, the compexity of contemporary trends and long-term tendencies calls for more research in this area. Perhaps ourselves, the women of academia, we are not aware of the profound impingement of the feminine element on the world of inetrnational affairs. In order to counter these tendencies, the paper ponders three questions in particular: The first one asks how the relational nature of a woman influences the realm of international relations. The second raises the issue of the nature and direction of an evolution observable in the realm of world politics both in the theory and in practise. And finally, basing on obtained answers, I should like to question some possible recommendations for the future.

Opis:
HIV remains a threat to the ordinary everyday life of older woman in African society. In what can be called “a reality shock,” HIV challenges most of the ordinary everyday endeavors in conservative African societies as it imposes new Western prevention, treatment, and health-management methods over long-held African traditions. The reality of the “Western” HIV epidemic, and its impact on the “African” ordinary everyday life, demands that the infected undergo a paradigm shift in order for them to live harmoniously within their society. This calls for a re-examination of traditional values and a strong sense of responsibility, courage, and determination to remain relevant and not be considered odd in one’s community, especially as one grows old with the virus. The study, which focuses on the experiences of women from the Manicaland Province in Zimbabwe who are aging with HIV, observes that growing old with an HIV infection fosters forms of inner strength and wisdom that enable the infected to disregard some of the unquestioned traditions and employ effective ways of living well with the life-threatening condition.

In this paper are reviewed publications that were concerned about the discovery of the location of the heliopause “nose” by the Newtonian Approximation method and publications using the full three-dimensional magnetohydrodynamic simulations of the heliosphere that confirmed that discovery. Since we do not have a clear answer to the question of what the heliosphere looks like, in connection with the planned launch of the Interstellar Probe within this decade, there was a problem with deciding which direction to send it. The discovery of the movement of the “nose” of the heliopause depending on the direction of the interstellar magnetic field and the determination of the position of the “nose” is very important for this decision. Therefore, the purpose of the article is to answer the question of where is the “nose” of the heliopause. In the second part of the article, the possibility of changing the paradigm of scientific research projects related to interstellar missions (including those focused on the study of the heliosphere), among other things, by increasing the interdisciplinarity of research, is explored. As part of initiating such cooperation, the article develops social sciences themes related to the sustainable logistics of Interstellar Probe missions to increase public involvement in these projects.

The article offers a critical review of The Gift of Languages. Paradigm Shift in U.S. Foreign Language Education by Fabrice Jaumont & Kathleen Stein-Smith, published by TBR Books in 2019. The book, fitting in the general category of instruction manuals and motivational materials, has been written in support of the cause of the advocates of the paradigm shift in foreign language learning in the United States. Focusing on the need to expand the L2 skills among US elementary, high school, and college students by means of the systematic implementation of two-way Dual-Language Immersion programs in K-12 and secondary public education, the monograph contributes to the mission of the Center for the Advancement of Language, Education and Communities. The CALEC, a non-profit organization with international membership and worldwide reach, focuses on promoting multilingualism and cross-cultural understanding by supporting language communities in creating programs of education in languages and cultures. The present article offers a review of this important, albeit popular, publication as a document testifying to the transformations of the American culture in the Age of Globalization.

Opis:
Global cybercrime is exploding geometrically. The traditional methods of securing cyber systems via complex passwords frequently fail, exposing the computer systems to many types of cybercrimes. Cybercrime of all kinds is a growing concern for individuals, government and business organizations, and society. Zero Identity is a new technology that "bubbles, cloaks, and hides" computers and their contents from cybercriminals. Zero Identity is a mature and proven military-based technology with over a 20-year history. Cylentium, a cybersecurity startup, is adapting Zero Identity technology to consumers and civilian organizations. Market and technological acceptance of Zero Identity may lead to a cybersecurity paradigm shift in the next decade. This paper explores the history of Zero Identity, what it does, how it works, and its future prognosis. One of the original developers (Rob Langhorne) of the Zero Identity concept was interviewed, as was the concurrent entrepreneur (Wayne Ronhaar). Both Langhorne and Ronhaar became coauthors of this article to contribute their first-hand historical perspectives, challenges, and insights to transform technology into a commercial product in a series of articles.

Opis:
The causes of considerably increasing call for “values” lie in accumulation of changes and in impenetrable number of offers in all aspects of life. The problem is that most often these are merely the calls for values or that values are “containers” enclosing everything possible. Thoughtful interpretation of values may help go out of the widespread indifference. Consciously evaluative dosage of resources, such as deference, time, power and money may contribute to the quality of our lives. Values as conscious or unconscious indicative standards and leading ideas of individuals and groups are characterized by current beliefs and by epoch-making paradigms in the background. Progressive program of modernity with methods of research, quantification and disposal has been authoritative so far. The program was very effective, and the possibilities of life of the contemporary society were significantly expanded. Together with the achievement of its goals, the epoch-making paradigm loses its meaning and mobilizing force. At the same time, it is seen what issues have still been open. So now we find that with the modern paradigm and it is necessary to show values leading into the future. The culture of life worthy of man needs effectiveness not only measurable in numbers, but also beauty that cannot be defined, and good free interpersonal relations. In many places, especially since the global financial and economic crisis, there have been shown dead ends of egocentric domination and seizure. It should be reminded how fundamental for us in our life is the size of the interpersonal and transcendental relationship. Sooner or later, the elementary questions, which are marginalized, appear: is there any sense and hope in my life, in our world, any sense and hope behind the whirl of life coming to the fore, beyond the threshold of death? Changes of values and the interpretation of values in our unusual breakthrough time apply to families. A lot of issues are in the state of breakthrough in family life: here the forms become multiplex, a lot of issues are getting relativised recklessly. Actually, the meaning and value of family is growing, not lowering, in the breakthrough time. It is not to be missed that families in earlier times were more stable than today. Remembering more stable families from former times makes the wish for them to come back understandable; however, it is not realistic. Deep changes of the course of life, the roles of gender and patterns of relationship mean breaking with the traditional culture of family. Thus, there emerge critical transition stages which cannot be stopped, but at best can be guided. Further development of family culture is not only for families, but for the society as such, of the greatest importance. Very important facts that are marginalized in today’s ”lifestyle” may be still met in families: valuable life is based not only on money, success, entertainment and well-being, but what is indispensable is to stay together, and also recognition, acceptance, benevolent correction and willingness to give.

Opis:
The article focus on the phenomena of the ‘radical change’ (transformation) brought by new ICT technologies, associated with the information and communication revolution, both on the level of the collective: bringing disruptive changes within economic, social and cultural sphere, and on the level of the individual, evoking fundamental, yet subtle, changes within our psyche impacting our identity (ies). The multiple scientific discourses, when analyzing the impact of new technologies, usually focus on changes in the economic, social or cultural sphere, defining them within the context of its semantic field (resulting different explanatory models built around different theoretical concepts, together with the accompanying different methodology). The main hypothesis of the ‘radical change’ (transformation) brought by new technologies, usually described in reference to new paradigm change, refers to constantly increasing impact (direct mediation) of ICT technologies in almost all spheres of our lives: social, economical and cultural, but hardly ever discuss the extremely subtle reconfiguration of our psychological space made under the influence of new technologies. As such the article focuses mainly the impact of new technologies upon the psyche and post-modern identity, trying to fully grasp and understand both the visible (direct) and the invisible (subtle) changes, from the perspective of psychological approach, with special reference to Jung’s analytical psychology. The core element (novelty) is the attempt to fully grasp (understand) the phenomena of moving (living) ‘in between’ real and virtual (identity/ environment), mainly from the point view (implications) of psychological as well as philosophical (ontological), not as in majority of cases ( discourses) from the technological, economical, sociological perspective. Cultural anthropology evokes the concept of liminality to denominate the boundaries between two different states : functioning within the existing normative (institutional) governance and stepping outside or aside of it, meaning suspension of the existing norms and standards (and break in or pause within the existing culture). The post-modern individual is somehow forced to move ‘in between’ and experience two different environments simultaneously - the physical environment, embedded in real space and time continuum, where we live at the very moment and digital environment created by new technologies (virtual and/or digital space). As such this continuous transition from reality to virtuality evokes the characteristics (attributes) of the liminal experience. Critical analysis of the defined phenomena implies the need of interdisciplinary approach based on the comparative methodology, both from the point view of theoretical discourses as well as more empirical approach, based mainly on the interdisciplinary approach of Jungian Analytical Psychology, as the outlined theme moves ‘in between’ new technologies, culture (as well as economy or social science) and psychology.

Opis:
The article focus on the phenomena of the ‘radical change’ (transformation) within culture brought by new ICT technologies, associated with the information and communication revolution, that have impacted not only the culture itself but also economic, social and political sphere, thus evoking the effect of synergy and convergence difficult to predict. Of course each era has its own revolutions and more or less radical changes, but the core of postmodern world we live is characterised mainly by the process of communication and culture directly mediated through digital technology, leading to the creation of new symbolic environment : virtual reality or real virtuality (often referred in terms of a third place ‘in between' : real and virtual, human (homo sapiens) and technology (AI), individual and collective). Critical analysis of the defined phenomena implies the need of interdisciplinary approach based on the comparative methodology, both from the point view of theoretical discourses as well as more empirical approach, as the outlined theme moves ‘in between’ new technologies (informational or new media sciences), economy, culture and social relations (economics, humanities and sociology), not to mentioned the growing interdependence and complexity within so called third wave of globalization (ICT revolution, demography and contemporary crisis). Taking into account that this phenomena is based on more and more interrelated and interdependent processes of ‘unintended consequences’ as a result of inherent complexity of contemporary world, the first part of the article focus on the broader context of the assumed ‘radical change’ (transformation) described by many scientific disciplines, bringing the interdisciplinary context necessary to understand this phenomena. Second part focus mainly of the impact of new technologies upon ‘radical transformation’ of culture, trying to fully described and understand both the direct and indirect results, from the perspective of espitemological, axiological and institutional approach, necessary for more comprehensive analysis of the phenomena of ‘radical transformation’ of culture. Third part is the endeavour of further reflection upon more or less direct result of this ‘radical transformation’ of culture (culture of virtual reality or/and real virtuality), referring to Baudrillard’s term of simulacra and simulation -the ‘precession of simulacra’- enhanced multiplication of signs and images reaching such an intensity, that only further exacerbated process of simulacra-sation, thus blurring of the boundaries between the real, semiotic and symbolic, with no real verification possible. The core element (novelty) is the attempt to fully grasp this phenomena of ‘new culture emerging’: by defining and understanding this process ‘in between’ real and virtual (culture), not only as usual from the technological, but also from the cultural, sociological, economical, not to mention the philosophical (ontological) perspective.

Opis:
The concept of sustainability is attracting great attention as societies become increasingly aware of the environmental consequences of their actions. One of the most critical challenges that humankind is facing is the scarcity of resources, which are expected to reach their limits in the foreseeable future. Associated with this, there is increasing waste generated as a consequence of rapid growth in the world population (particularly inurban areas) and aparallel rise in global income. To cope with these problems, a linear strategy has been applied to increase efficiency by reducing the use of materials and energy in order to lessen environmental impacts. However, this cradle to grave approach has proven inadequate, due to a lack of attention to several economic and social aspects. A paradigm shift is thus required to re-think and innovate processes (as early as inthe design phase) in such a way that materials and energy are used more effectively within aclosed-loop system. This strategy, known as the cradle to cradle approach, relies on the assumption that everything is aresource for something else since no waste is ever generated in nature. In line with the cradle to cradle approach, the bio-inspired circular economy concept aims at eco-effectiveness, rather than eco-efficiency. While the circular economy has neither a confirmed definition nor a standardized methodology, it nonetheless carries significant importance, since it “is restorative and regenerative by design and aims to keep products, components, and materials at their highest utility and value at all times, distinguishing between technical and biological cycles,” in accordance with the goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Despite some controversial opinions that “circles are not spirals, and for growth to occur, spirals with ever-increasing radii are required,” the circular economy concept is taking a central role in the sustainable development debate and, for this reason, deserves attention. The aim of this paper is to shed light on this debate, pointing out the main features of the emerging circular paradigm along with sustainability transition theories and circularity evaluation tools.

Twenty years ago, in Crossing the Threshold of Hope, John Paul II reflected pastorally on some of the philosophical, spiritual, and cultural roots of both. His insights, embodied in Christians who live them, offer the Church a key to our times. If evangelization today is to announce the Gospel in the languages of today, what script might it use? What images might it evoke? What might its cadence be like?
