Opis:
Subject and purpose of work: The study focuses on the social and economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic globally and regionally, particularly in Poland. Materials and methods: Based on the literature, the historic origins of various pandemics have been presented as evidence for their cyclicity. Results: An analysis of current COVID-19 reports serves to verify the hypothesis that the economic outcomes are secondary to the social outcomes, which generally distinguishes the current crisis from other known economic and financial crises of the market origin. The recovery from the economic crisis leads to the strengthening of the private sector, but the public sector, especially health care and education, is of particular significance in the pandemic crisis. Conclusions: The need to develop instruments of fighting the crisis has been indicated, with special emphasis on logistics. The pandemic may solidify many years of cultural, social and economic changes, so far rather modestly foreshadowed by various signs.

Opis:
COVID-19 Pandemic, or better known as Coronavirus pandemic, is a current new disease of respiratory ways, and adjustment to life and work in the pandemic conditions is a challenge all organisations in the world, including military ones, have to face with. This paper analyses the influence of the COVID-19 pandemic on the intensity and implementation of surveillance and protection of national interests of the Republic of Croatia within the jurisdiction of the Coast Guard of the Republic of Croatia. A special attention is dedicated to determining how capable the Coast Guard of the Republic of Croatia is in executing all tasks in the pandemic circumstances. The analysis is carried out by comparing selected activities the Coast Guard of the Republic of Croatia carried out in 2020 with activities carried out in the period from 2015 to 2019. In the analysis of the effects which the COVID-9 pandemic had on the intensity and implementation of surveillance and protection of national interests of the Republic of Croatia within the jurisdiction of the Coast Guard, the following performed activities were observed: number of airplane flights, airplane fuel consumption, number of flight hours, number of engaged vessels, number of nautical miles sailed by vessels, number of registered vessel engine working hours, vessel fuel consumption, number of issued mandatory misdemeanour warrants. This paper has a goal to prove that the Coast Guard of the Republic of Croatia, having adjusted to a great extent to new operational circumstances, carries out all its tasks, and this can be best seen through a number of issued misdemeanour warrants, which means that the pandemic didn’t have a decisive negative impact on the work of the Coast Guard of the Republic of Croatia.

Aim. The main aim of the authors of this study is to indicate the problem areas of individuals and the families during the pandemic and post-pandemic situation which occurred in connection with a deteriorating social and societal situation. Methods. Using a literary descriptive and deductive method, the authors identify, indicate and analyze not only epidemiological measures and the possibilities of applying social interventions in the individual and in the family, but also draw attention to state measures taken to manage new conditions of family life. Results. The analysis indicates a broad issue that affects individuals, families, and groups, as well as societal sectors. The authors point to the provision of interventions through social work, which takes into account the basic characteristics of the family. Social intervention therefore becomes an important tool in solving problematic situations of any small or large social group. Conclusions. The pandemic and post-pandemic situation brought about a number of problematic situations that had to be solved dynamically and, in many cases, through crisis intervention. Forms of assistance to individuals and families brought cohesion and unity, but also brought a number of other concerns reflecting the current adverse societal situation into the wider environment.

Opis:
Discourses on pandemics often prioritize germane pharmaceutical issues while largely ignoring the social dimensions to them, especially the paradoxical role of transportation in pandemic transmission and management. Granted, from an epidemiological perspective, transportation is technically a vector of pandemics; however, by sustaining continuous critical supply chains and facilitating the conveyance of interventions during pandemics, transportation also plays a crucial role in pandemic control and management. Indeed, studies have shown that the risk of disease transmission can be significantly reduced by the observation of non-pharmaceutical transport protocols. Against this background, this paper highlights the dual roles of transportation in aiding and curbing pandemics, with a strong emphasis on the latter. Moreover, towards consolidating on the strengths of the transport sector in the control and management of public health issues, this paper underscores the sacrosanctity of responsible transport. Challenges were identified, and practicable recommendations were proffered towards containing them.

The fight against the Coronavirus continues around the world. The pandemic affects individuals and families and social groups, states, and economies. Like any other economy in the world, Australia’s economy has to deal with the effects of a pandemic. Australia has chosen its own way of fighting the disease and its consequences. It was not possible to avoid an economic recession, but at the same time, political decisions, aid provided, and social behaviour can be assessed as very effective.

This publication analyzes the situation of businesses in the context of global pandemics. The aim is to discuss the potential impact, the readiness of companies and solutions. Business is important not only for the business units themselves or for the residents of the country, it is the foundation of the entire state economy. Both the public sector and the private sector are closely interlinked. At present, the coronavirus Covid-19, which is spreading all over the world, and the quarantine introduced in many countries are of great importance to business. This pandemic is considered one of the strongest in the last century. Today’s situation allows us to look back and look at previous global pandemics, to analyze what developments in business have taken place in previous years. This paper also presents theoretical considerations and insights with a slight path for possible solutions for different types of businesses.

Opis:
The aim of this paper is to examine early pandemic commercials and show the main changes in their focus from the point of view of communication. In terms of the contents, COVID-19 lockdown, heroism of health care workers, social distancing, online learning, remote work, and the strong shift towards online communication are underlined with an enormous stress put on such values as family, helping each other and being together in these difficult times. Characteristic nonverbal components of commercials referring to the pandemic situation include, for example, sentimental piano music, dimmed colours, a specific style of filming, or showing ordinary people as actors. Finally, it is noticed that some ad makers decide to use the sense of humour in their spots. In conclusion, the coronavirus pandemic and its effects can be easily observed on every level of an advertising message.

The article aims to describe the conceptualization of pandemic discourse taking place in humanistic reflection. The author analyzes the statements of Giorgio Agamben, Niall Ferguson, Ivan Krastev, Jean Luc Nancy, Slavoj Žižek, Piotr Augustyniak, Inga Iwasiów and Tomasz Stawiszyński. He describes the trends appearing in their texts regarding the assessment of the causes of the pandemic and forecasts its further consequences, and also briefly analyzes the ways of describing it. Finally, the author formulates conclusions about the humanities – pessimistic in terms of its diagnostic and prognostic capabilities – and poses questions about its current status and potential.

When a threat to a person’s health and life has arisen, all forces are focused on ensuring their health security. Other areas of human activity were reduced or suspended. This also applies to behaviors related to participation in a physical culture which, although it belongs to the field of medical and health sciences, cannot fulfill its offer. It is questionable whether it is rightly assigned to this group.

Opis:
In Bergoglio’s thinking, to build on fraternity in order to create a culture of encounter and justice means to move together towards unity, which helps to be committed “to allow people to serve as a body despite differences of viewpoint, physical separation and human ego”.[1] This attitude and these commitments will prevent us from falling into uniformity while respecting the values and richness of plurality. In fact, in today’s world, while we are more and more interconnected we experience a deep sense of division, especially at the social and economic level. Our societies and communities are more and more fragmented and this creates dangerous polarizations, as it is seen in politics and social life. Fraternity will help to foster dialogue at all levels and this will enable people “to generate a shared horizon toward which we can all move forward together”.[2] This does not mean, in Pope Francis’ understanding, denying tensions and differences. It rather calls for the engagement of everyone and all communities to work for a wider unity where all differences remain and coexist while working together. This reading of the present reality can help us react to the pandemic as a people, as a whole humanity with its differences and riches. But we need the courage “to restore an ethics of fraternity and solidarity, regenerating the bonds of trust and belonging. For what it saves is not an idea but an encounter.”   [1] Ibid., p. 68. [2] Ibid., p. 76.

Opis:
This article explores the philosophical and psychoanalytic trajectories of conceptualizing the Covid-19 pandemic as ‘collective trauma’, and considers what would be the risks, but also productive possibilities, of such a theoretical move. the context of this inquiry is the so-called ‘shadow pandemic’ – the drastic increase in domestic violence globally, which accompanied introduction of lockdowns as a measure of containing the impact of Covid-19 on public health infrastructures. For the women who were victims of violence during the lockdowns, the discourse of ‘sheltering’, ‘isolation’ and ‘staying home’ has carried antithetical meanings to the o6cially sanctioned ones – those were meanings of threat, danger, harm, and death. Drawing on the work of two feminist psychoanalytic thinkers, Julia Kristeva and Jacqueline Rose, and on installations by bio-artists Anna Dumitriu and Flo Kasearu, I argue against notions of the pandemic as an external traumatic event that disrupted societies and communities worldwide. Rather, the ‘shadow pandemic’ suggest that there is a more complex, even intimate, relation between the pandemic, violence, and gendered productions of sociality.

A new health threat in the form of a new variant of Covid-19 called Omicron has emerged globally in this holiday season. This new variant has been declared a variant of concern (VOC) by the World Health Organization and experts are expecting another wave of the pandemic. A lot still unknown about this variant and researchers worldwide are conducting studies to find the nature and characteristics of this mutated strain. Cases have begun to rise dramatically around the world and many countries have already imposed travel restrictions again to prevent disease transmission. It is being speculated that this particular variant has got tendency of immune escape and therefore can even infect fully vaccinated individuals. Vaccination and adhering to Covid-19 guidelines and protocols can curtail the spread of the virus. The present paper focuses on what is currently known about this variant, antigen diagnostic tests, importance of getting fully vaccinated and having booster dose etc. If we want to emerge from this pandemic, countries should practice vaccine equality and solidarity for the good of mankind.
