    Poland is strategically located in the centre of Europe. In the past this geographical position was the cause of many hardships, in particular of political nature. Nevertheless, after the accession to the European Union, it is becoming one of Poland’s main assets. It is of great significance to international transport services rendered between the Baltic Sea Region and Southern Europe. The aim of this article is to elaborate on the importance of Pan-European Transport Corridors running via Poland for international transport service in Poland. In the Baltic Sea Region (BSR) the sea transport represents over the half of the overall trade in the region. In the case of Poland the figure amounts to one third, however, it is estimated that the Polish share in the trading activity with the BSR states will be systematically increasing until 2020. The Polish maritime transport faces the increasing competition from the other transport modes – road and railway. It is more favourable for Poland building highways connecting the North and the South than the East and the West, since it will create conditions for cargo sent from Polish ports to bypass German harbours.

    Opis:
    The purpose of this article is to outline the idea of using former military airfield in Biała Podlaska to create a modern logistics centre. Firstly it presents theoretical ideas behind the logistics centres. Further on it describes the characteristics of the existing infrastructural conditions around the former military airfield in Biała Podlaska. Towards the end it identifies the reasons for locating a modern Logistical Centre for the transport of air cargo at the airfield of Biała Podlaska, in Southern Podlasie within the II PanEuropean Transport Corridor belt. This argument is supported by: appropriate technical infrastructure, valuable space for investment, the lack of this type of logistical organization in this part of Podlasie, qualified staff and beneficial direction of transport operations. This project is supported by the local authorities.

    W perspektywie najbliższych kilku lat istnieje pilna potrzeba wybudowania jednego, nowego centralnego lotniska dla aglomeracji miejskiej Warszawy i Łodzi. Jego lokalizacja to okolice Mszczonowa-Skierniewic. Wyzwoli to nowe możliwości rozwojowe dla tego regionu, stworzy dodatkowe miejsca pracy, pobudzi gospodarkę lokalną, poprawi dostęp klientów do ruchu lotniczego. Docelowo lotnisko to miałoby obsługiwać ok. 30 mln pasażerów rocznie i przyjmować ok. 150 tys. t ładunków. Koszt takiej budowy (długość pasa 2800 m, szerokość 60 m) to ok. 25 mld zł, a czas realizacji to ok. 5 lat. Inwestycja ta nie odciągnie w sposób wyraźny istniejącego ruchu pasażerskiego i cargo od funkcjonujących już portów lotniczych, a stworzy m.in. dogodniejsze miejsce przesiadkowe. Potrzeba pilnych decyzji w tym obszarze ku poprawie tego zjawiska w perspektywie najbliższej dekady.
    In the next few years there will be an urgent need to build one new central airport for the urban agglomeration of Warsaw and Lodz. Its location is around Mszczonów-Skierniewice. It would trigger new growth opportunities for this region, create additional jobs, stimulate the local economy, improve customers’ access to air traffic. Ultimately, this airport would handle approx. 30 million passengers per year and take approx. 150 thousand tons of cargo. The cost of such construction (runway length 2800 m, width 60 m) is approx. 25 billion PLN, and the building time is approx. 5 years. This construction investment will not divert significantly the existing passenger and cargo traffic from already functioning airports, but will create, among the others, a convenient interchanges place. There is a need for urgent decisions to make improvements in this area in the next decade.

    Moving the customs border of the European Union on to the line of the Bug river and the appearance of foreign investors in the eastern Poland in the impact area of the No. 2 Pan-European Transport Corridor has created new opportunities for development in the recent years. This article aims to characterize logistical centres and their potential on the example of eastern Poland’s No. 2. Pan-European Transport Corridor’s area. The analysis of the nature and function of the logistical centre leads the author to derive his own definition of a logistical centre.
    Przesunięcie granicy celnej Unii Europejskiej na linię Bugu i pojawienie się inwestorów zagranicznych na wschodzie Polski w pasie oddziaływania II Paneuropejskiego Korytarza Transportowego stworzyło w ostatnich latach nowe możliwości rozwojowe. Celem artykułu jest scharakteryzowanie centrów logistycznych i ich potencjału na przykładzie Polski wschodniej, w pasie Paneuropejskiego Korytarza Transportowego nr II. Analizę charakteru, funkcjonalności i rodzajów centrum logistycznego zakończono wyprowadzeniem przez autora własnej definicji centrum logistycznego. W artykule opisano inwestycje transportowe we wschodniej części Paneuropejskiego Korytarza Transportowego nr II oraz wskazano na zagrożenia, np. konkurencję za wschodnią granicą ze strony centrów logistycznych lokalizowanych na Białorusi, które mogą przechwytywać ruch towarowy z Rosji i Chin.

    W artykule omówione zostały problemy dotyczące infrastruktury transportu drogowego wschodniej Polski, w tym województw: mazowieckiego i lubelskiego, na przykładzie biegnącej przez te województwa autostrady A2. Przedstawiono argumenty, że powstająca w II Paneuropejski Korytarzu Transportowym infrastruktura drogowa jest kluczowym czynnikiem bezpieczeństwa i rozwoju gospodarczego wschodniej Polski a także istotnym elementem bezpieczeństwa ekonomicznego, gospodarczego, społecznego i militarnego całego naszego kraju.
    The article discusses problems related to the road transport infrastructure of Eastern Poland, including the following provinces: Mazowieckie and Lubelskie, on the example of the A2 motorway running through these provinces. Arguments were presented that the road infrastructure emerging in the Pan-European Transport Corridor II is a key factor in the security and economic development of Eastern Poland and an important element of our country's economic, social and military security.

    Opis:
    Paper refers to research of Motor Transport Institute to characterise transport potential of Mazovia. Much of cargos are carried by international corridor No. 2. that leads through Mazovia. The fact that Mazovia is a transit region appears to be an advantage. Only through some of the geographical areas runs such an important transport route, a major stream of cargo, goods and people. This region, through lack of infrastructure in the east, does not fully exploit its transport potential, which properly directed, could provide faster economic growth. The crucial is the need to build the eastern section of the A-2 highway, which will facilitate the connection of eastern European Union border regions with Mazovia region and thus with the rest of Poland and the European Union.
    Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie badań realizowanych przez ITS, dotyczących charakterystyki potencjału transportowego Mazowsza, przez które Paneuropejskim Korytarzem Transportowym nr 2 przewożone są masy ładunków. Fakt, iż Mazowsze jest regionem tranzytowym wydaje się atutem, gdyż nie przez każdą krainę geograficzną przechodzą tak ważne szlaki transportowe, duże potoki ładunków, towarów i ludzi. Region ten, poprzez braki infrastrukturalne na wschodzie województwa, nie w pełni wykorzystuje jednak swój transportowy potencjał, który odpowiednio ukierunkowany mógłby zapewnić szybszy rozwój gospodarczy. Kluczowa jest w tym przypadku konieczność budowy wschodniego odcinka autostrady A-2, która usprawni połączenie wschodnich regionów przygranicznych Unii Europejskiej z Mazowszem a co za tym idzie z resztą Polski i Unii Europejskiej.

    Development of the river sea transport is directly related to the characteristics of waterway network which enables navigation between river basins and seas. Inland waterways in Serbia belong to the Danube navigational system. There are two navigational directions: Danube East and Danube West. River-sea transport can be directly established in these directions between the Serbian international ports on the Danube (Apatin, Novi Sad, Belgrade, Pan?evo, Smederevo and Prahovo). Development of the Pan-European Corridor VII and the River Danube-Black Sea and Danube-Rhine-Main region would allow not only in Serbia but also in neighbouring states and all over Europe connection with the sea. In this paper the technical and exploitation characteristics of the river Danube will be analysed in terms of the navigation of various river and sea vessels with different exploitation characteristics.
