Opis:
Properties of selected Precambrian and Paleozoic sedimentary clastic rocks were analysed with respect to their reservoir potential. Multidimensional analysis of laboratory results and borehole logging data was used to construct digital models of pre-Mesozoic, deeply buried formations, present as tight, low-porosity and low-permeability rocks. This modern statistical and deterministic approach as applied to laboratory and borehole logging results worked to integrate data at different scales. The results obtained are useful not only in further scientific research but also found a use in industrial application. As a first step, statistical methods, including clustering and separation of homogeneous groups, enabled digital rock model creation on the basis of the results of such laboratory measurements as pycnometry, mercury porosimetry, nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy or computed X-ray tomography. Next, the models constructed were applied in borehole logging interpretation to find intervals with similar petrophysical properties within the group and different properties between the groups. This approach allowed implementation of upscaling procedures of laboratory experiments at micro- and nano-scale to borehole logging scale. High correlations were established between the log petrophysical parameters within the digital models. This approach can be used to divide the succession cored into intervals with different petrophysical parameters.

Opis:
In this paper results of natural radioactivity of 40K, 208Tl, 212Pb, 212Bi, 214Pb, 214Bi and 228Ac in common rocks raw materials mined in the Krakow vicinity measured in situ using a portable gamma-ray spectrometry are presented. The study area occupies the SE edge of regional geologic unit called Krakow–Lubliniec Zone. Most Upper Paleozoic rocks exposed in this area like tuff, porphyry, limestone, dolomite, diabase and melaphyre have great economic importance and are used in building and road construction industry. The activity concentrations of 40K for the measured Paleozoic rocks ranged from 53 Bq/kg (Carboniferous limestone) to 3150 Bq/kg (Permian tuff). The activity concentrations associated with 228Ac (232Th) varied from about 7 Bq/kg (Carboniferous limestone) to 56 Bq/kg (Permian tuff), whereas activity concentrations of 226Ra (238U) ranged from 19 Bq/kg (Devonian dolomite) to 43 Bq/kg (Devonian limestone). Besides, the natural radioactivity of the Jurassic limestones (widespread in this region) was measured for comparision with Devonian and Carboniferous limestones.

1-D modelling
Opis:
The burial history, thermal maturity, and timing of hydrocarbon generation of four source rock successions were modelled: the Middle Cambrian, the Upper Cambrian-Tremadocian, the Upper Ordovician (Caradocian) and the lower Silurian (Llandovery and Wenlock). The 1-D modelling was carried out in profiles of eight boreholes throughout the western Baltic region. Four selected boreholes are located offshore: A8-1/83, A23-1/88, B6-1/82 and B4-2A/02, and four onshore: Bialogóra 3, Dbki 3, Leba 8 and arnowiec IG 1. The thermal maturity of source rocks is the highest in the deeper buried western part of the basin and decreases from the west to the east and north-east towards the basin margins. The lower Paleozoic source rocks contain oil-prone Type-II kerogen. The modelling indicated that the onset of petroleum generation from the lower Paleozoic source rocks occurred from the Early Devonian through the early Carboniferous period. The peak of hydrocarbon generation took place from the Late Devonian to the Tournaisian. The majority of hydrocarbons generated were expelled during the latest Early Devonian and Carboniferous, and oil has not been expelled from source rock only in the eastern offshore part of the basin.
