The main problem of this article is Benedict XVI resignation from papal office and possible consequences of this issue for Catholic Church as an institution. Article is divided into three parts. The first part reconstructed basic historical facts connected with the resignation of Benedict XVI. On the second part, reconstructed the external interpretation of resignation. The third part described the resignation problem, where interpreter in the context of secularization theory. The article author makes an attempt to find the answer for two questions: (1) how will Benedict XVI’s resignation affect the Church as an institutional model, its tradition and doctrine?; (2) will the abdication of Benedict XVI weaken the papal legitimacy for leadership in the Church?

Opis:
The Holy See, with territorial residence is the Vatican City State, is the only sovereign European entity with diplomatic ties to the Republic of China (ROC), the official name for Taiwan, which presently has fifteen diplomatic allies in total. Holy See - ROC relations were established in 1942. In 1971, when the ROC lost its seat in the UN, the position of the Pontifical representative in Taiwan was downgraded from ambassador to chargé d'affaires, and it has remained so ever after. The Holy See and relations with it are unlike those with other sovereign entities, which are often influenced by geopolitical or commercial considerations. The Apostolic Palace is not interested in receiving foreign aid or signing trade agreements, but in securing religious freedom for the Catholic flock and respecting human rights. This can play in favour of Taiwan when it comes to preserving its formal relations with the Holy See. The People's Republic of China (PRC) demands that the Vatican conforms to the one-China policy by severing its diplomatic ties with Taiwan, as one of the two conditions for normalizing relations with Beijing. The 2018 Provisional Agreement between the Holy See and the People's Republic of China on the Appointment of Bishops marked a turning point in the Sino-Vatican dynamics. Yet, as long as there is no actual religious freedom for the Catholic Church in China, the Holy See remains very reluctant to switch diplomatic allegiance to the PRC. However, the 2018 agreement and the élan of the Papal policy towards China perhaps indicate that, for the Chair of St. Peter, diplomatic relations with Beijing may be 'well worth a mass'.

The problem of papal primacy is one the most fragile issues between Catholics and Protestants. The author of the article discusses the possibility of a separation of the primacy of jurisdiction from the primacy of teaching. The method of reasoning follows the one of St. Thomas: first the arguments pro are given, and later the arguments contra. The arguments are from Catholic theology, Lutheran theology and philosophy. The answer is given from Ecumenical Perspective.

This article includes a deepened presentation and a commentary on some elements of the procedure of the election of the Pope, which underline the unity of the believers’ community. It is a unity in the sense of a participation of the whole Church in the election process, and secondly in that a special strengthening of the Pope to fulfill the ministry of unity of the Christ’s Church is accomplished by his election. The elements in question are as follows: entrusting of the election of the Bishop of the Church of Rome to the Cardinals of the Holy Roman Church, a majority of votes necessary for a valid election of the bishop of Rome, and a spiritual dimension of a conclave, as well as a calling directed to all the Faithful to participate in this special act.

RESEARCH OBJECTIVE: The paper aims to determine in what manner official papal titles are an expression of supreme power in the Church. THE RESEARCH PROBLEM AND METHODS: The principal problem refers to the ecclesiological correlation between papal titles and primatial power, as well as the ongoing changes in the understanding of power within the Church, manifested by the departure from iurisdictio in favour of communio. Methods involve source text analysis (of the Holy Scripture and ecclesiastical documents), interpretation, and comparison. THE PROCESS OF ARGUMENTATION: All names of the highest office in the Catholic Church are derived from the so-called primatial texts which describe St Peter the Apostle and his mission. Together with the practice of the first centuries of Christianity, they have provided a basis for establishing the dogmatic truth about the primacy of St Peter and his successors. The primacy involves supreme jurisdictional power in the Universal Church. In this context, the author proceeds to analyse current papal titles which expose the scope and the multifaceted nature of the power exercised by the Bishop of Rome. Furthermore, the author presents modifications in the official papal titles, which are simultaneously a reflection of ecclesiastical changes in the area. RESEARCH RESULTS: It has been established that some titles are an expression of real jurisdictional power (e.g. Bishop of Rome, Sovereign of the Vatican City State), while others carry historical and honorary importance (e.g. Primate of Italy) or manifest contemporary tendencies to highlight the religious character of the office (Servant of the Servants of God). CONCLUSIONS, INNOVATIONS, AND RECOMMENDATIONS: A departure from the secular understanding of power in favour of a religious and ministerial direction encourages further, praxeological research, as the primatial practice of individual pontificates (gestures and symbols) precedes the official primatial doctrine.

Opis:
The paper was presented in Poznań on 23 April 2009 during an open seminar dedicated to a phenomenon of prophetism in the Middle Ages. The subject of the lecture is medieval pope prophecies Genus nequam, their genesis, their rhetoric and conversions which they underwent in the Middle ages. The archetype of prophecies Genus nequam well-known in the West were Byzantine Oracula Leonis. They belong to the so-called basileiographeion, i.e. medieval pamphlets, directed against ruling Byzantine emperors. The motive of a she-bear and an emperor rising from the dead in Oracula Leonis gave inspiration to obscure authors of Genus nequam. The she-bear was associated with the pope Nicholas III, coming from a powerful Roman family Orsini and famous for his nepotism. The resurrected emperor from Oracula Leonis served as an example of an ideal pope who would reform church. A negative character of a man with a sickle and a rose noticeable in Byzantine prophecies was modified so as to point to the pope Celestine V (1294). Circles of radical supporters of church reform were glad of his appointment and hoped for renewal. After his rapid resignation the prophecies started announcing another pope, who would continue the interrupted mission of Celestine V. Genus nequam are the example of an interesting medieval collection of symbols and figures, which may convey specific religious and political information.

Studying language through naturally-occurring data is easily feasible nowadays thanks to the use of concordancers. Using the software package AntConc by Laurence Anthony, the author approaches the linguistic style of Pope Francis in four of his apostolic exhortations. His lexical frequencies are compared to those of Venerable Fr. Tomás Morales, a Spanish Jesuit (1908–1994) who is considered a prophet of our time for anticipating the teachings of the Second Vatican Council twenty years beforehand. The two have several aspects in common, mainly in making laypeople aware of the universal call to sanctity and the missionary responsibility acquired in baptism. The results of the comparison show a similarity in the lexical choices. The article’s conclusions and implications are considered in relation to the word in education and in evangelization.

Opis:
In the twenty-first century in Francis’, Benedict XVI and John Paul II teaching it is obvious that they desire to restore the respect towards the elderly people in family and estimate their role as well as their place in it. Popes want the elderly people to be respected and cared with proper concern. Popes prove that the elderly people are not only the beneficiaries but also the donors in family. Therefore, the elderly people are precious support to the young generations, as they pass the young people wisdom as well as experience of life, the history of the family and the nation, finally, they become the witnesses of faith. According to the aforementioned popes, the respect towards the elderly people, was some kind of determinant of humanism in the past. Undoubtedly, it also should be such now, in order to bear witness the quality of the twenty-first century civilization positively.
W XXI wieku nauczanie papieży Franciszka, Benedykta XVI i Jana Pawła II, ukazując rolę i miejsce osób starszych w rodzinie, przywraca im szacunek. Papieże chcą, by osoby w podeszłym wieku były szanowane i z właściwą uwagą otoczone troską.

Christians feel that they should not be indifferent to war, and that it is their duty to react to harm, particularly done to civilians. Catholics expect their greatest authority, the Pope, to have a firm say about war and peace. May people, however, have had the impression that Pope Francis is erratic and assesses the situation in a wrong way. Although he follows the beaten track paved by the Church’s social science and Vatican diplomacy, some of his statements (and things left unsaid) caused and still are causing controversy. The article attempts at understanding the position of Pope Francis. It analyses his utterances regarding war, taken from sources such as the book titled Against War, speeches and social media (Twitter).

Do początków XIII w. zbiory prawa kanonicznego były gromadzone przez osoby prywatne. W 1210 r. papież Innocenty III dokonał pierwszej w dziejach Kościoła promulgacji zbioru prawa kanonicznego, przesyłając go wraz z bullą do uniwersytetu w Bolonii. W 1226 r. zbiór własnych dekretałów z dołączoną do niego konstytucją cesarza Fryderyka II promulgował papież Honoriusz III, przesyłając go wraz z bullą do uniwersytetu w Bolonii. Tak też uczynili: w 1234 r. papież Grzegorz IX, Bonifacy VIII w 1298 r. i Jan XXII w 1317 r. Papież Benedykt XIV w 1744 r. przesłał zbiór swoich konstytucji wraz z bullą promulgacyjną do uniwersytetu w Bolonii. W 1917 r. papież Benedykt XV promulgował Konstytucją apostolską Codex Iuris Canonici. Również Jan Paweł II promulgował konstytucją apostolską Kodeks Prawa Kanonicznego w 1983 r. Papież ten promulgował konstytucją apostolską Kodeks Kanonów Kościołów Wschodnich w 1990 r. Do przebiegu procesu wprowadzenia prawa w życie należy obowiązek ustawodawcy publicznego ogłoszenia zbioru prawa, aby adresaci mogli zapoznać się z normami prawa w zbiorze zawartymi i by mogły one stać się obowiązującym prawem.
Until the early 13th century, collections of canon law were issued by private individuals. In 1210, Pope Innocent III promulgated a collection of canon law for the first time in the history of the Church, sending it with a bull to the University of Bologna. In 1226, Pope Honorius III promulgated a collection of his own decretals together with the constitution of Emperor Frederick II by sending them with a bull to the University of Bologna. Similar steps were taken by Pope Gregory IX in 1234, Pope Boniface VIII in 1298, and Pope John XXII in 1317. Pope Benedict XIV sent a collection of his constitutions with a promulgation bull to the University of Bologna in 1744. In 1917 Pope Benedict XV promulgated Codex Iuris Canonici with an apostolic constitution. Pope John Paul II also promulgated both the Code of Canon Law with an apostolic constitution in 1983 and the Code of Canons of the Eastern Churches with an apostolic constitution in 1990. It is the legislator’s obligation within the the process of implementing new laws to publicly announce the collection of law, so that its addressees can become acquainted with the norms of law included in it, and so that these norms can become the applicable law.

Karol Wojtyla (1920–2005), later to become Pope John Paul II (since 1978), was one of the greatest contemporary thinkers. He was a Christian philosopher and Catholic theologian. His thought exerted an in! uence on diverse generations and representatives of many cultures, religions and nations. He was an authority not only for Catholics but also for many infidels and even atheists. He often made controversies because of His firm opinions. He was an aim of liberal as well as conservative critique. The liberals criticized Him due to His uncompromising and conservative attitude to female priesthood, homosexuality, contraception and abortion. The conservatives accused Him of apologizing and conciliatory tone of His voice in relationships with other religions, especially with Jews and Muslims. Because these parts of His thought became most controversial, they were and usually are commented on and analysed by world mass media. But few people found Him a leading contemporary theoretician of civilization despite the fact that He constructed a coherent theory of civilization that is unfortunately distracted in His numerous papers. And my article is dedicated to this theory. I would like to present the core of His civilization’s conception.
