Opis:
In this article, a 3D printed rectangular dielectric resonator antenna which is capable of polarization reconfiguration has been designed. Dielectric resonator is composed of environment friendly and biodegradable material, which is Polylactic Acid. In the proposed model, the polarization can be switch from a linear to a circular by changing the state of a switch, electonically. The antenna switch between two different polarizations: Linear polarization during OFF STATE and Lefthand circular polarization during ON STATE. The proposed 3D printed dielectric resonator antenna is designed to operate in Cband of microwave spectrum, with a broad effective bandwidth (overlapped impedance bandwidths of both states) of 14.542% with centre frequency at 5.845GHz and peak gain 5.5dBi. Further, validated simulated results with experiment and both results are in good agreement.

The numerical modelling of the Raman polarization attraction and amplification process in the telecommunication band around 1550 nm is presented. The possibility of achieving both polarization pulling and amplification in Polarization Division Multiplexing transmission system by exploiting the polarization dependence of stimulated Raman scattering is investigated. The acceptable crosstalk for the Polarization Division Multiplexing transmission systems was achieved for some attraction/amplification block parameters.

Opis:
Investigation of polarizing properties of DNA is chosen as one of primary importance due to mirror asymmetry of the shape of DNA. Preliminary theoretical calculation has shown that the form of DNA is optimum for radiation of a circular electromagnetic wave under the resonance condition (~10 nm). This conclusion has been proved for the metal DNA-like helices in a microwave range in accordance with the principle of scaling. In the given work it is experimentally confirmed the presence of the effect of polarization selectivity in double reflection of microwave waves from DNA-like helical elements depending on their sign (the right-handed and left-handed helices). It is shown that the circular polarization of waves plays an important role in case of interaction of microwaves reflected from the artificial DNA-like structures. Probably, the identical effect takes place in some processes that involve DNA in biological organisms' cells, but in the range of far ultraviolet radiation and the "soft" X-ray range. These results are also interesting in connection with an opportunity of creation of artificial 2D and 3D structures on the basis of branches of a molecule of DNA. Such structures can be into a basis of new type metamaterials.

Toczący się spór między partiami – Prawem i Sprawiedliwością a Platformą Obywatelską – nosi znamionapolaryzacji o charakterze totalnym, czyli takiej, która obejmuje niemal wszystkie sfery życiaspołecznego. W każdej z nich dochodzi do ciągłej konfrontacji liderów i członków partii, wyborcówi zdecydowanej większości członów społeczeństwa. Proces ten uruchomiony został w 2005 rokuprzez elity polityczne, po zakończonych niepowodzeniem negocjacjach, które nie doprowadziły dopowstania rządu opartego na, zapowiadanej w kampanii wyborczej, większościowej koalicji POPiS.Zasadniczą dynamikę temu procesowi nadawały czynniki o charakterze afektywnym, a w zdecydowaniemniejszym stopniu czynniki ideologiczne. W artykule podjęto próbę przyjrzenia się polaryzacjiwspółczesnego społeczeństwa polskiego oraz odpowiedzi na niektóre związane z tym problemempytania: W jaki sposób polaryzacja została zapoczątkowana?; W jaki sposób się rozwijała?; Na czympolega jej specyfika? Podstawą obserwacji i formułowanych wniosków są wyniki badań ilościowychzrealizowanych przez różne instytucje, w tym przede wszystkim przez CBOS.
The ongoing dispute between the parties – Law and Justice and Civic Platform – bears the hallmarks oftotal polarization. This polarization is present in almost all spheres of social life. In all of them, there isa constant confrontation between the parties involving their leaders and members, voters, and the vastmajority of members of society. This process started in 2005 after a failed attempt to form a coalitiongovernment (POPiS) that was announced during the election campaign. The essential dynamics ofthis process were driven by affective factors and, to a much lesser extent, by ideological ones. Thearticle attempts to look at the polarization in contemporary Polish society and answer some of thequestions related to this problem: How was the polarization initiated? How did it develop? What areits specifics? The observations and the conclusions are formulated based on the results of quantitativesurveys carried out by a variety of institutions, especially the Public Opinion Research Center.

Heterodyne holographic interferometry is a well-known interferometric technique for high precision measurements of the phase difference between two recorded wave fronts. These wave fronts are typically registered at a given distance from the object under inspection. Although the affinity of heterodyne techniques with the phase-shifting ones is immediate, reports on concrete implemented set-ups from the former type of techniques as adaptations into the second type seems to be not so widely spread as convenient. To illustrate this point, in this communication we demonstrate two phase-shifting methods as applied to heterodyne holograms, each variant using a different shifting method for phase shifting. One method is based on a conventional piezoelectric stack transducer and the other method comprises modulation of polarization. The alternatives that these two techniques offer could be of direct benefit in dynamic holography.

This paper presents the results of the corrosion resistance of Sn-Ag-Cu alloys in air-saturated aqueous solutions containing NO3-, SO42- ions, whose concentration was equivalent to their contents in acid rains and in concentrations 10 - 100 times higher. The Ag, Cu and Sn concentrations in the corrosive media were determined using the Atomic Absorption Spectrometry. The specific dissolution rate and corrosion current were derived using the a rotating disc technique. The corrosion rate of Sn- Ag-Cu alloys depends on pH of the examined solutions and on the concentration of oxygen near the phase boundary. In the whole range of concentrations of the applied H2SO4 + HNO3 mixtures of acids, the pure Sn was more corrosion resistant than eutectic alloy as well as the near eutectic one, following the sequence: Sn>Sn3.66Ag0.91Cu>3.8Ag0.7Cu.

Mass media in the United States have historically evolved through three stages in which the content is aimed at the elites, then the masses, then specialized audiences. This evolution has recently been taking place within the news media, where Fox News is now being aimed at conservative viewers. The effect of the conservative content of Fox News on its viewership was examined. Findings from a survey show that Fox viewers are more polarized than other news consumers on several issues. Whether they watched Fox News or some other news program, however, the respondents consist- ently felt that the media were between good and fair in their coverage. Fox News viewers seem to be relatively satisfi ed with the news content they receive – or at least as satisfied as respondents who get their information from other sources.

This paper substantiates the method of polarization selection of navigation objects located in the zone of atmospheric formations (i.e., precipitation of different intensity and phase state), based on polarization differences in the parameters of their echo signals in a partially polarized electromagnetic wave arriving at the input of the all-polarized antenna of the ship radar polarization complex (SRPC). The partially polarized wave is represented as consisting of two polarized streams with polarization degrees m1 and m2 corresponding to the echo signals of the navigation object and atmospheric formation. The property of the partially polarized electromagnetic wave reflected from a complex object (i.e., navigation object located in the zone of atmospheric formation) is represented by real energy polarization Stokes parameters having intensity dimension. The scattering ability of the complex object is represented by the Mueller scattering matrix, the elements of which are measured by SRPC when it is sequentially irradiated with electromagnetic waves of four fixed polarizations. Polarization selection of navigation objects located in the zone of atmospheric formations uses the difference of polarization degrees of echo signals of the navigation object and atmospheric formation. The process of selection of the navigation object echo signal from the echo signal of the complex object and its observation on the screen of the SRPC indicator or computer display is based on the relationship between the degree of polarization of the electromagnetic wave and the polarization parameters of the navigation object echo signal and the atmospheric formation. The aim of this research is to develop polarization criteria of optimality of radar parameters of echo signals of partially polarized electromagnetic waves, represented by polarization degrees m1 and m2 corresponding to the navigational object and atmospheric formation observed by SRPC. As a result of the performed research, the problem of polarization selection of navigation objects located in the zone of atmospheric formations along the ship’s trajectory according to the values of the polarization degree of the navigation object echo signal is solved.

In this paper, polarization dependence of patterning effects in quantum well semiconductor optical amplifier-based wavelength conversion is experimentally and theoretically investigated. The carrier and photon density rate equations are numerically solved by using the time-domain traveling wave model. The material gain calculation, including the strain effect in the active layer, is based on the k·p method. By comparing experimental and computational results, it is demonstrated that the polarization of the injection signal has a significant influence on the gain recovery time of quantum well semiconductor optical amplifier. Under the cross-polarized signals injection, the output signals suffer the weakest and strongest patterning effects both for unstrained and tensile strained quantum well semiconductor optical amplifiers.

The corrosion inhibition behaviour of levofloxacin was investigated on carbon steel by means of a 2 M HCl solution, using potentiodynamic polarization measurement and Quantum chemical studies. The inhibitive effect of the studied compound was found to increase with increasing concentration and to increase with increasing temperature. The study reveals that levofloxacin is a mixed-type corrosion inhibitor. The adsorption of levofloxacin on carbon steel surface obeys the Langmuir adsorption isotherm and involves physical adsorption mechanisms. Quantum chemical studies corroborate experimental results.

Wireless communication is a fundamental requirement because of its low cost, high flexibility and convenience, continuing improvements in speed and connectivity, and accessibility in remote areas. One example is very small aperture terminal (VSAT) communication. A VSAT is a two-way satellite ground station operating at C-band and Ku-band frequencies, with linear and circular polarization in the C band and linear polarization in the Ku band. For the data transmitted by a satellite to be utilized by a user, the antenna on the user side must have dual-wideband and dual-polarization characteristics. In this study, a dual-polarization planar dual-wideband antenna with dimensions of 30 x 39 x 1.52 mm3 was designed using a dual-port approach. The introduction of a slot and perturbation on the patch side results in the dual-wideband characteristics of the antenna. The introduction of slots into the antenna ground results in circular polarization. The proposed antenna has resonant frequencies of 3 - 15 GHz on port 1 and 3.31 – 7.79 GHz and 9.05 – 15 GHz on port 2, with circular polarization characteristics on port 1 and linear polarization characteristics on port 2. On port 1, the gains at frequencies of 4.2 GHz is 3.93 dB, while on port 2, the gains at frequencies of 3.9 GHz is 0.51 dB.

In this paper, we consider a hybrid photonic crystal symmetrically deformed (Bg5/Cu3/Bg5) consisting of the third generation of the copper mean sequence (Cu3), sandwiched between two Bragg mirrors at the fifth generation (Bg5). Our system realizes a polychromatic filter that transmits five wavelengths in the visible spectrum independently of the polarization of the light transverse electric or transverse magnetic. Secondly, the photonic crystal (Bg5/Cu3/Bg5) undergoes the deformation y = xk + 1 (where k is the degree of deformation, x and y are respectively the coordinates of the system before and after the deformation). With a proper choice of the degree of deformation k, this photonic crystal maintains its property of polychromatic filter whose transmission wavelength is independent of the polarization’s state. Thanks to this deformation, we can disperse the optical windows in different spectra of visible light and exactly in the violet, blue, green, and orange light. This system can be used in the fabrication of color filter devices and the white light emitting diodes.

This paper estimates a popular measure of economic polarization (DER index) using Polish income micro-data from the Household Budget Survey (HBS) study for the period from 1998 to 2007. Using asymptotically distribution-free statistical inference we test whether the changes in the values of the estimated indices are statistically significant. Results show that during the period under study DER index has increased in the range from 4.9 to 6.5%, depending on the polarization-sensitivity parameter α. For the period 1998-2007, the changes in the DER index with α = 1, for which polarization is empirically distinguishable from inequality, are statistically significant at conventional levels. It is found, however, that for some sub-periods changes in the DER index are not statistically significant.
W artykule dokonano estymacji popularnej miary polaryzacji ekonomicznej (indeks DER) dla danych o dochodach z polskich Badań Budżetów Gospodarstw Domowych w okresie 1998-2007. Używając niezależnych od rozkładu metod wnioskowania statystycznego przeprowadzono testy istotności różnic w wartościach estymowanych wskaźników. Wyniki pokazują, że w badanym okresie wartość indeksu DER wzrosła pomiędzy 4,9 a 6,5% w zależności od wartości parametru α mierzącego wagę przykładaną do polaryzacji. Zmiany indeksu DER dla α = 1, dla którego polaryzacja zachowuje się empirycznie w sposób odmienny od nierówności, są w badanym okresie statystycznie istotne. W artykule pokazano jednak, że niektóre ze zmian indeksu DER dla krótszych okresów nie są istotne statystycznie.

Podjęto próbę eksperymentalnej oceny wpływu na wyniki badań impedancyjnych polaryzacji różnych fragmentów pobocznicy walcowego pręta zbrojeniowego. Pomiary metodą EIS przeprowadzono w układzie trójelektrodowym w roztworze wodnym modelującym ciecz porową betonu. Elektrodą badaną był gładki pręt zbrojeniowy ze stali RB500, przeciwelektrodą prostokątna blacha ze stali odpornej na korozję, a elektrodą referencyjną Cl–/AgCl,Ag. W badaniach zasięg polaryzacji różnicowano po obwodzie pręta, a jako drugą zmienną wprowadzono odległość przeciwelektrody od elektrody badanej. Analiza badań zasadniczo nie wykazała istotnego wpływu na wyniki opisanego sposobu polaryzacji.
An attempt of experimental evaluation of the impact on the impedance test results on polarization of different parts of the circumferential cylindrical rebar was made. EIS measurements have been conducted using three-electrode system in an aqueous solution which models the concrete pore liquid. Working electrode was a smooth rebar made of steel RB 500 grade. The counter electrode was a rectangular sheet made of corrosion-resistant steel, and the reference electrode was Cl–/AgCl,Ag. In the test the polarisation range was differentiated along the circumference of the rod, and as a second variable was introduced the distance between the counter electrode and working electrode. The analysis of the tests generally showed no significant effect on the results of described polarization method.

Opis:
A SO(3) transformer of a three-plate polarizer is adopted to rapidly achieve the transformation of the polarized state. The polarization coding based on Stokes components S2 and S3 is analyzed and demonstrated. Tabu search algorithm is used to accelerate the transformation of the polarized state by utilizing Mueller matrix roots decomposition to decompose the SO(3) matrix, and substituting first order Taylor series approximations for the trigonometric functions in the SO(3) matrix. The results show that bias voltage is less than 120 V in the coding zone. The search speed of our algorithm is faster than the one without first order Taylor series approximations by 4 times.

Opis:
In this paper, a micro resonator is modeled as a thin rectangular microplate with thermoelastic damping that is actuated electrostatically. Large static deformation due to high polarization voltage is considered, and vibration of microplate occurs around the static de- flection. Due to the effect of thermoelastic damping, the frequency of vibration is a complex value that is used to determine the quality factor of thermoelastic damping. Also, the pull-in voltage is considered because nonlinear properties are more appeared when approaching the polarization voltage to the pull-in voltage.

In this paper we examine the mobility of Polish households with regard to saving rates during the years 2007-2010 and compare it with the households’ saving mobility during the years 1997-2000. The analysis for 2007-2010 is based on the household budget panel data from three panels of 15,000 Polish households selected by authors for the years 2007-2008, 2008-2009 and 2009-2010 from the Household Budget Surveys. We use the Markov mobility matrix and estimate the long-term ergodic distribution of households according to the saving rates. Our results show that the long-term households’ distribution reveals a tendency towards polarization of households with regard to saving rates. Comparing the results for 2007-2010 with the authors’ previous research on the households’ saving mobility for a decade earlier during 1997-2000, we prove that between the years 1997-2000 and 2007-2010 the long-term change in the distribution of households was asymmetrical toward the highest saving rate groups. This helps to explain why Polish households could maintain positive and rising savings during the highly uncertain period of the financial crisis in 2007-2010.

Opis:
A single-mode telecommunication optical route can be used for reliable power supplies of a remote non-electric temperature fiber-optic polarization sensor, but the optical route, due to many physical factors, affects an immediate state of polarization during the transmission. This negative phenomenon changes the sensitivity of the sensor itself. The thesis proposes two main approaches to solving that problem. The first approach is based on the suitable connection of a depolarizer and linear polarizers. The second approach is based on signal interference, which takes place in a polarization-maintaining fiber coupler. This article also evaluates the advantages and disadvantages of the two approaches and graphically demonstrates the functionality of the fiber-optic sensor, which was tested by applying a container with water of different temperatures. A big advantage of this type of sensor is that it is not necessary to have components, that are dependent on electricity, near the monitored place, where there may be no access to electricity, or the place may be sensitive to an electric charge. Paper demonstrates the possibility of successfully powering the non-electric sensor via a classical optical route.

W artykule scharakteryzowano SEM polaryzacji, jako wielkość reprezentującą cechy dynamiczne akumulatora. Opisano jej wpływ na procesy zachodzące w akumulatorze kwasowym podczas jego pracy. Wykazano, że intensywność jej zmian może być wyrażana za pomocą stałej czasowej. Przedstawiono schemat zastępczy akumulatora kwasowego, w którym jego cechy dynamiczne w warunkach zmiennego obciążenia prądowego reprezentuje obwód CRC. Przedstawiono sposób wyznaczania stałej czasowej za pomocą wykładniczych funkcji regresji dla SEM polaryzacji. Wyniki obliczeń zestawiono w formie wykresów i dokonano ich interpretacji.
The paper describes the electromotive force of polarization as the amount representing the dynamic characteristics of the acid battery and its impact on the battery processes during operation. It has been shown that the intensity of its changes can be expressed by the time constant. There is presented a diagram of acid battery replacement, where its dynamic properties represents the CRC circuit. The paper presents a method for determining the time constant using exponential regression function for the electromotive force of polarization. The results of the calculations are presented in the form of charts and there is made their interpretation.

The expressions for the elements of the on-axis and transverse generalized Stokes parameters of random electromagnetic quasi-homogeneous beams on propagation are presented and are used to study the polarization properties of the beams. Some typical numerical calculations of the on-axis and transverse Stokes parameters, polarization properties of the beams on propagation are illustrated. The results show that for different sources all the on-axis parameters are identical in the near field and keep fixed values in the far field. But the transverse parameters are affected greatly by the properties of the source even in the near field. We have also found that the spatial profiles of the transverse parameters remain unchanged upon propagation.

The polarized electromagnetic waves have significant impact on the performance of adaptive antenna arrays. In this paper we investigate the effect of polarized desired and undesired signals on the performance of electronically steered beam adaptive antenna arrays. To achieve this goal, we built an analytical signal model for the adaptive array, in order to analyze, and compare the effect of polarized signals on the output SINRs (signal to interference plus noise ratios) of single-dipole, and cross-dipole adaptive antenna arrays. Based on a proof-of-concept experiment, and on MATLAB simulation results, it will be shown that cross-dipole adaptive antenna arrays exhibit better performance in comparison with single-dipole adaptive antenna arrays in presence of randomly polarized signals. However, single-dipole arrays show better performance under certain operating conditions.

A multiplicity of infospheres in a country, especially in those with a significant proportion of language minorities, creates polarization and distrust towards state institutions. This article addresses the problem by exploring the attitudes of Estonia’s Russian-speaking minority towards news media content regarding fake news and information disorder. The semi-structured interviews were conducted with Russian-speakers living in Estonia (N=29), using stimulus materials to induce reactions related to elements of trust in the materials. The results showed that the interviewees have—diverse media preferences, a critical eye for the news, more trust in Estonia’s Russian-language media, and are quite capable of recognizing fake news and information disorder. The study challenges the view that Estonia’s Russian-speaking minority lives in the isolated infosphere of Russia. The article argues that more attention should be drawn to information quality in the news aimed at this language minority audience.

We investigate theoretically and experimentally the astigmatic transformations of Bessel beams at propagation perpendicularly to the c-axis of a uniaxial crystal. The analogy between this transformation and the astigmatic distortion of the plane wave by an inclined axicon is analytically shown. The influence of the polarization direction of radiation relative to the c-axis of a crystal on electric field components of the ordinary and the extraordinary beams is investigated.

We propose and experimentally demonstrate a switchable microwave photonic filter based on polarization dependence of stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS). The continuous optical wave from a tunable laser source is split into two branches. One branch serves as the SBS pump source and another branch serves as the signal source which are interactional to generate the SBS effect in the dispersion-shifted fiber. Only by adjusting the polarization direction of pump light and signal light, a frequency response switched between bandpass and notch filtering shape can be obtained.

Der Beitrag beschäftigt sich mit dem Einsatz persuasiver, akzeptanzwerbender Mittel in politischen Reden, speziell in Texten von NPD-Rednern. Aufgrund des gegebenen politischen Kontexts lassen sich zwei konträre Tendenzen beobachten: das Bemühen um eine gewisse sprachliche Anpassung an das Sprachverhalten anderer Parteien und das gleichzeitige Insistieren auf einer Strategie der Abgrenzung und Polarisierung. Eine Analyse von Stellungnahmen zur Bildungspolitik soll dies konkretisieren.

In this study, the corrosion properties of Ti-6Mo-6V-5Cr-3Sn-2.5Zr alloy were investigated as a function of the cold rolling ratio and annealing temperature. The annealing treatment was carried out at temperature of 680°C, 730°C, and 780°C. The highest corrosion potential observed in the specimen with a 10% rolling ratio was 179 mV, which was more positive than that of the nonrolled specimen (–0.214 VSSC). The lowest corrosion current density (1.30×10-8 A/cm2) was observed in the non-rolled specimen which suggested that the integrity of its passive oxide layer was superior to that of the cold-rolled specimens. Time-dependent EIS evaluation revealed that the consistency of the passive oxide layer was highly affected by the subjected rolling ratio over time.

Introduction. Quantitative and accurate monitoring of tumor makes hyperpolarized carbon (13C) Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Spectroscopy (MRI/S) a powerful tool for in vivo metabolic and structural study. Moreover, the studies of the properties and functions in tumor tissue of the compounds of carbon (C) that are organic, are fundamental to tumor biochemistry. Aim. To review 13C MR spectroscopy to study the absolute configuration of endogenous and polarized alanine. Material and methods. An analysis of literature regarding 13C MR spectroscopy of polarized alanine. Results. Current evidence suggests that the determination of absolute configurations of amino acids play significant role in physiological mechanisms during tumor growth and treatment. Conclusions. Nearly 50% nuclear polarization for 13C can be achieved in various organic molecules when Dynamic Nuclear Polarization DNP is performed in a strong magnetic field and at cryogenic temperatures.

In this study, we investigated the effect of cladding on structural carbon steel (S45C) using 5%Cr-1.5%Mo-Fe powder (SKD61), which is expected to show economically efficient production of die-casting parts. The process conditions were performed under argon atmosphere using a diode laser source with specialized wavelength of 900-1070 nm, and the output conditions were 3, 4, and 5 kW, respectively. After the cladding was completed, the surface coating layer’s shape and the microstructure were analyzed. The hardness test was carried out with Micro Vickers hardness tester under 500 gram-force along the normal line at the interval of 0.2 mm from the surface to core direction on the cross-sectional area. In addition, polarization curve test of the surface coating layer was performed to investigate the corrosion resistance characteristics.

In social psychology the group polarization refers to the tendency for groups to make decisions that are more extreme than the initial inclinations of its members. This phenomenon constitutes a potential obstacle to positive outcomes attributed to deliberative debates. A deliberative debate is a particular kind of a group discussion tasked with fi nding group consensus on controversial issues. The idea of deliberation originates from the writings of John Rawls, Jürgen Habermas, Amy Gutmann and Denis Thompson. Deliberative debate imposes numerous normative requirements on the communication, relationships among the disputants and their approach to the issue under discussion. These normative requirements make a big difference between deliberative debates and the situations in which the phenomenon of polarization was observed. Thus, we presume that in deliberative debates conditions the phenomenon of group polarization may be limited. The paper investigates the following questions: would the normative conditions of deliberation limit the occurrence of polarization in discussing groups? and What infl uence (if any) would the polarization process have on the quality of group decision? In the light of the empirical data we concluded what follows: (1) In 50% of the analyzed cases of group discussion the phenomenon of group polarization was observed despite the normative conditions of deliberation. (2) The occurrence of group polarization in some cases coincided with making the fi nal decisions which did not alter the initial preferences of the disputants (but did not totally predestinated the fi nal outcome).

The Cotton-Mouton effect in the sheared plasma with helical magnetic lines is studied, using the equation for the complex amplitude ratio (CAR). A simple model for helical magnetic lines in plasma of toroidal configuration is suggested. Equation for CAR is solved perturbatively, treating the shear angle variations as a small perturbation, caused by the spiral form of the magnetic lines. It is shown that the uncertainty of the polarization measurements in the toroidal plasma with a spiral form of the magnetic lines does not exceed 1.0–2.0%, which determines the limiting accuracy of the Cotton-Mouton polarimetry. It is furthermore pointed out that the method of a priori subtraction of the “sheared” term may significantly improve the accuracy of the Cotton-Mouton polarimetry.

W artykule omówiono teoretyczne aspekty binarnego kształtowania sinusoidy w nowoczesnych miernikach impedancji, które pozwoliły na komputerową realizację spektralnych pomiarów składowych impedancji. Jedną ze składowych jest kąt przesunięcia fazowego, Kąt ten reprezentuje polaryzację elektryczną związaną z przesunięciem ładunku elektrycznego. Wykonane badania kąta przesunięcia fazowego w wodzie z różną zawartością soli NaCl pozwoliły na możliwość analizy odwrotnej, czyli możliwość oceny koncentracji soli na podstawie wartości kąta przesunięcia fazowego. Uzyskany patent z metodyki takiego pomiaru jest potwierdzeniem nowości oraz postępu w badaniach polaryzacji elektrycznej miernikami impedancji nowej generacji. Przeprowadzone badania na różnych mieszaninach sypkiego iłu i piasku drobnoziarnistego pozwoliły również na określenie metodyki oceny zawartości materiału ilastego względem piaszczystego, co jest aktualnie przedmiotem zgłoszenia projektu wynalazczego (2007 r.).
Theoretical aspects of binary shaping of a sinusoid in advanced impedance meters enabling computer realization of spectral measurements of impedance components are presented in this paper. One of the components is angle of phase shift, which represents electric polarization caused by electric charge shift. The analysis of angle of phase shift in water with different NaCl content enabled reverse analysis, i.e. assessability of salt concentration from the angle of phase shift. This measurement method was patented which proves the novel character and advancement in the study of electric polarization with new generation impedance meters. Similar analyses were performed in various sandy-clayey media, on the basis of which methodics of evaluating clayey material content vs. sand could be determined. This has been a subject of patent application since 2007.

Minimization of the number of numerically calculated coefficients for new analytical forms as a product of exponential function r1 by the sum of the exponential terms Ai*exp(-ai*r2) have been done. The optimum is N = 10. Calculations have been done for realistic phenomenological Reid93 potential. Spherical S0 and quadrupole S2 form factors is parameterized by the coefficients for deuteron wave function in coordinate representation. The result t20(p) in wide area of momentas for Reid93 potential agreed well with the literature results for other potential nucleon-nucleon models, and with experimental data’s of world collaborations and reviews. The obtained results will allow studying the deuteron electromagnetic structure, its form-factors, differential cross section of double scattering in more detail in future, and also for calculations the theoretical values of spin observables in dp- scattering.

The paper seeks to identify the role of cultural and social diversity in economic development. It starts by defining the terms that are critical to the analysis, including diversity, fractionalization, polarization, social diversity, cultural diversity and economic resources, as well as providing the most significant indexes thereof. The main body of the paper interprets the notions of cultural and social diversity in terms of being a valuable economic resource. Furthermore, it collects a vast body of literature to demonstrate the relationship between the cultural/social diversity and economic development with regard to adverse or positive impact on the latter. In regard to the negative impact of diversity, the paper identifies it in the area of social communication, social capital and networks, as it effectively causes a decrease in productivity and increase in social conflict and isolation. The positive link is demonstrated with examples in the areas of innovation, creativity, usage of complementary abilities and experiences, and their role in increasing productivity. The paper refers to numerous data sources, studies and indexes illustrating how the economic systems of various countries perform in the context of the paper’s subject-matter.

RESEARCH OBJECTIVE: Analysis of how the 2020 US presidential election was covered and framed by Polish television news programs, and whether the polarization of media and politics in Poland was reflected in the studied content, influencing its bias. THE RESEARCH PROBLEM AND METHODS: The analysis of the coverage of the US presidential campaign by three nationwide TV news programs – TVN, TVP and Polsat by using content analysis with elements of framing analysis and comparative analysis. THE PROCESS OF ARGUMENTATION: The article consists of four parts: the first explains the methodology of the study, the second discusses how presidential elections are covered and framed and what influences the national media being interested in covering foreign events. The third part presents the results of the study, and the last contains the discussion and conclusions. RESEARCH RESULTS: The coverage was dichotomous and there was a correlation between the political affiliation of the media and their choice of framing. The media used a combination of game, strategy and conflict framing that highlighted differences between Trump and Biden in terms of the election results and their personal attributes. We found that the electoral rivalry was portrayed as a conflict between the candidates and that the Polish media constructed “enemy” images of candidates and voters depending on their political sympathies. CONCLUSIONS, INNOVATIONS, AND RECOMMENDATIONS: The polarization of media and politics in Poland was reflected in the coverage of the US election. The broadcasters placed Polish political conflicts in the context of the US campaign. It shows that foreign events may be covered by national media through the prism of political bias.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the mechanical properties of beta type aged Ti-4Mo-4Cr-X (X = V, Sn, Zr) quaternary alloy for use as a cardiovascular stent. Titanium (Ti) alloys were fabricated using a vacuum arc remelting furnace process. To homogenize the specimens of each composition and remove the micro segregation, all cast specimens were subjected to homogenization at 850°C for 4 h, which was 100°C higher than the β-transus temperature of 750°C. The tensile strength and elongation of the aged Ti-4Mo-4Cr-X (X = V, Sn, Zr) alloys were increased as compared to the homogenized alloys. In addition, many α/β interface boundaries formed after aging treatment at 450°C, which acted as inhibitors of strain and caused an increase in tensile strength. The elongation of Ti-4Mo-4Cr-X alloys consisting of α + β phases after aging treatment was improved by greater than 30%. Results of a potentiodynamic polarization test showed that the lowest current density of Ti-4Mo-4Cr-4Sn with1.05 × 10-8 A/cm2 was obtained. The present Ti-4Mo-4Cr-X alloys showed better corrosion characteristics as compared to the 316L stainless steel and L605 (Co-Cr alloy) cardiovascular stent alloys.

Many optical systems benefit from elements that can absorb a broad range of wavelengths over a wide range of angles, independent of polarization. In this paper, we present a nearly perfect absorber with dual broadband and polarization-independent in the visible regime that exploits strong symmetric and asymmetric resonance modes of electromagnetic dipoles. It makes use of a bilayer hollowed-out cross pattern structure which is simple, having five layers that include two stacks of metal film with hollowed-out ribbon in cross patterns, two dielectric spacers, and a metal reflecting layer. Simulations show that the design exhibits a significantly enhanced absorption property when compared to a device with a normal cross pattern structure. The nearly perfect absorption efficiency of the device is above 98.5% at two resonances regimes: from 5.57 × 1014to 6.08 × 1014Hz and from 6.75 × 1014to 7.05 × 1014Hz, and its stable absorption characteristics can be maintained over a wide range of polarizing angle – up to ±90°. This strategy can, in principle, be applied to other material systems and could be useful in diverse applications, including thermal emitters, photovoltaics, and photodetectors.

We represent the optical correlation technique of cement particle sizing based on the transverse coherency function measurement using a polarization transverse shearing interferometer. It is shown that a set of particles with random shapes and orientations produces a coherence function, which is the same as a function of the set of spherical particles. The proposed technique of experimental data processing decreases the dependence of the result on interferometer noise, emission source intensity fluctuations and differences in the refraction index of isolated cement particles. The described technique allows fast and high reliable determining of the size distribution function parameters for a set of cement particles.

Polarization properties of Gaussian–Schell model quantization field propagating through the Kolmogorov turbulence of a marine-atmosphere channel are studied based on the degree of quantum polarization. The effective photon annihilation and creation operators of Gaussian–Schell model quantization field propagation in a marine-atmosphere are developed by making use of the extended Huygens–Fresnel integral of quantum field. The effects of the outer scale on the degree of polarization can be neglected. As the source transverse coherent width, the number of received photons, the inner scale of turbulent eddies, and the source transverse radius decrease or the re- fractive index structure parameter increases, the degree of polarization decreases. In theory, we find that the polarization fade of marine-atmosphere turbulence channels is larger than that of terrene-atmosphere turbulence channels under same transport parameters and the channel with a stronger turbulence strength will possess a larger detection area of a polarization signal, which have potentially important implications for free-space quantum key distribution.

The changes in the on-axis polarization state of random electromagnetic Gaussian Schell-model vortex beams propagating in biological tissues have been studied. In different media propagation, the bigger Cn2 is, the earlier the appearance of the inflexion points in the on-axis degree of the polarization P(0, 0, z) is. As the propagation distance increases, the values of the on-axis orientation angle θ(0, 0, z) undergo several processes: at the beginning they are positive, then gradually increase to the maximum, jump to a negative value, finally tend to a fixed value. The bigger Cn2 corresponds to previous jumping position. In the entire propagation, the values of the on-axis ellipticity ε(0, 0, z) are larger than the initial one. There exists a phenomenon that the values of P(0, 0, z), θ(0, 0, z) and ε(0, 0, z) keep their extremes in a length of propagation distances for the far infrared beams. The maximum of P(0, 0, z) is the smallest and the jumping range of θ(0, 0, z) is the largest for the ultraviolet beams. Compared with σyy > σxx, the changes in magnitudes in P(0, 0, z) are more obvious when σyy < σxx, the changes in θ(0, 0, z) are just the reverse for σyy < σxx.

The present study investigated various thermodynamic parameters, microstructures and electrochemical behaviors of TiMoVCrZr and Ti-rich TiMoVCrZr high-entropy alloys (HEAs) prepared by vacuum arc remelting. The microstructures of the alloys were analyzed using X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), and potentiodynamic polarization tests. The determined thermodynamic values of the Ω-parameter and the atomic size difference (δ) for the HEAs were determined to be in the range of Ω ≥ 1.1, and δ ≤ 6.6% with valance electron configuration (VEC) ≤ 5.0, suggesting the HEAs were effective at forming solid solutions. XRD patterns of the equiatomic Ti20 Mo20 V20 Cr20 Zr20 HEA revealed four phases consisting of the body centered cubic1 (BCC1 ), BCC2 , hexagonal close-packed (HCP), and intermetallic compound Cr2 Zr phases. Three phases were observed in the XRD patterns of Ti-rich Ti40 Mo15 V15 Cr15 Zr15 (BCC, HCP, and Cr2 Zr) and a single BCC phase was observed in Ti-rich Ti60 Mo10 V10 Cr10 Zr10 HEAs. The backscattered-electron (BSE) images on the equiatomic Ti20 Mo20 V20 Cr20 Zr20 HEA revealed BCC and HCP phases with Cr2 Zr precipitates, suggesting precipitation from the HCP solid solution during the cooling. The micro-segregation of Ti-rich Ti60 Mo10 V10 Cr10 Zr10 HEAs appeared to decrease remarkably. The alloying elements in the HEAs were locally present and no phase changes occurred even after additional HIP treatment. The lowest current density obtained in the polarization potential test of Ti-rich Ti40 Mo15 V15 Cr15 Zr15 HEA was 7.12×10-4 mA/cm2 was obtained. The studied TiMoVCrZr HEAs showed improved corrosion characteristics as compared to currently available joint replacement material such as ASTM F75 alloy.

The terms ‘left’ and ‘right’ cannot describe two extremes of a single ideological dimension. Instead, a bi-dimensional model including socio-cultural and socio-economic facets of leftism/rightism is postulated. Several studies conducted in the USA and Western Europe show a relative coherence of left-wing and right-wing orientation regarding both dimensions, whereas very diverse patterns can be found in the countries of Eastern Europe. In Poland cultural and economic leftism-rightism seem to be clearly negatively related. The general hypothesis in this paper claims that such ideological inconsistency is a product of coherence at the level of preferences for values, i.e. covariance within individualistic (Openness to change and Self-enhancement) as well as within collectivist values (Conservation and Self-transcendence). Based on a survey study (N = 750) conducted on a representative sample of Poles, it was shown that preferences for values made up two distinct dimensions: Openness to change vs Conservation, and Self-enhancement vs Self-transcendence. They are positively related but have fundamentally different relationships with political self-identification and ideology.

The article shows the possibility of using TFBG gratings to measure the radius of curvature of fiber bending in conditions of variable polarization of the introduced light. Most of the modern, stable light sources generate light with a high degree of polarization. Due to the spatial asymmetry, the direction of the light polarization plane affects the spectral parameters of individual modes. For this reason, in the measurement systems using TFBGs presented so far it becomes necessary to determine and control the state of light polarization directly in front of the periodic structure. The article presents the determined spectral parameters of the cladding modes which allow bending measurements regardless of the direction of polarization of the introduced light. Thanks to this, the measuring system can be constructed without providing control of the introduced light polarization angle, which makes its construction simpler. When using TFBGs with an angle of 2°, the accuracy of determining the bending radius in the range from 15 mm to 30 mm when changing the angle of the plane of polarization in the full range is 0.318 mm in the case of changes in the transmission coefficient. For changes in the wavelength of the selected cladding mode, the accuracy is 0.3203 mm, with the input light polarization being changed in the range from 0° (P type) to 90° (S type).

Opracowanie koncepcji i wykonanie zintegrowanego oprzyrządowania do oświetlenia pola obróbki laserowej oraz zapobiegania niepożądanemu wpływowi plazmy na obróbkę.
The article dwells on several issues connected with creating a research facility for investigating laser processing of materials. The facility is based on the Patara PA-016-QTG laser. Creating this research facility was connected with developing the visualization of systems controlling laser beam polarization in the process of laser cutting, and creating the complex equipment for illuminating the field of laser processing, and for preventing the unwanted effect of plasma on the processed surface. The concept solutions obtained in the development process are presented together with the author’s calculations and extracts from the technical documentation which appeared in the process of their production.

The topic of migration is often used by populist and non-populist politicians in order to arouse emotions, polarise social attitudes and thus mobilise voters. The present study aims to identify themes (a cognitive aspect of attitudes) and discrete emotions (an emotional aspect of attitudes) in online social discourse as a reaction to the media posts of the main Slovak political parties on the topic of migration in the pre-election period (January-February 2020). Methodological triangulation of discourse analysis and Text mining was used to analyse the data. Analysis of the discourse revealed that articles with pro-migrant rhetoric provoked more discussion about the security and identity threat, while articles by populists provoked more discussion about the morality of elites and the economic threat of migration. The evoked sentiment throughout the discourse leaned more towards negative emotions (fear, anger) but pro-migrant articles and articles by non-populist politicians evoked also positive emotions (joy). Results indicate that rather than fear of migration, the anticipation of a change in the morale of the elites was the key element of the pre-election period in Slovakia. Limitations and implications of the study are further discussed. The value of this paper lies in focusing on both emotional and cognitive aspects of attitudes towards migration.

The full-scale Russian-Ukrainian war consolidated Ukrainian society. The choice of the absolute majority in favor of the European and Euro-Atlantic future allows us to conclude that the Ukrainians have completed the formation of a political nation. At the same time, the war created grounds for the Ukrainians to overcome the existing rifts in the socio-cultural sphere, but did not remove them completely. The main task of the authorities, scientists and civil society in these conditions is to concentrate on the development and implementation of such policies that will help to avoid the deepening of existing rifts to the extent of toxic polarization and prevent Ukrainians from finally overcoming the dichotomy in the issue of national and cultural identity.

In this article, a hybrid circularly polarized Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) antenna for multi-band operation from 2.3 to 9.2 GHz with an impedance bandwidth of 7 GHz is proposed and investigated experimentally. The designed MIMO antenna model has a compact size of 20mm×40mm×1.6mm on the FR-4 substrate. The microstrip feed of the proposed slot antenna consists of a tapered structure, and the radiating element consists of the inverted L- shaped slots, which were opened on both sides of the radiating elements to introduce notches at the sub-6 GHz frequencies. L-shaped stubs are also introduced on another side of the substrate in the common ground plane to attain high isolation between the radiating elements of the proposed antenna. In the operating band from 2.3 to 9.2 GHz, isolation of less than -20 dB is achieved by the proposed model. The performance of the circularly polarized MIMO antenna in terms of RHCP and LHCP radiation patterns, axial ratio, surface current distributions, isolation between the ports, diversity gain (DG), envelope correlation coefficient (ECC), total active reflection coefficient (TARC), and peak gain are studied and presented in this work. The obtained characteristics of the proposed antenna make it suitable for sub-6-GHz frequency applications.

This paper presents a rectangular-shaped printed monopole antenna with circular polarization for Wi-Fi (2.4–2.484 GHz) and WiMAX (3.3-3.7 GHz) bands. The antenna relies on asymmetric arrangement of the patch with respect to the microstrip feed, in order to generate circular polarization. Dual-band (Wi-Fi and WiMAX) operation is enabled by inserting a slit in the corner of the ground plane. Simulation results show a bandwidth increase of 15.9% (2.2–2.58 GHz) for Wi-Fi, and of 24.16% (3.13–3.99 GHz) for WiMAX applications. Furthermore, beamwidths at the axial ratio of 3 dB equal 48˚ and 51˚ for the x-z plane and y-z planes, respectively.

A series of catastrophic floods that have occurred over the last twenty years in Poland brought an urgent need for taking preventive steps to monitor river embankment conditions. The main problem seems to be the development of efficient (i.e. fast and economical) measurements for controlling the condition of river embankments, because the execution of the full range of geotechnical measurements is both lengthy and costly. In this situation, a cheap and quick geophysical survey has been proposed to undertake this purpose. In this article the results of geophysical surveys are described which were performed using geoelectric and electromagnetic methods along a section of the Vistula embankment, located near the Maniów area in the Małopolska province. According to the archival data, this region is situated in a high-risk flooding zone. Three geophysical methods were used to recognize conditions of the levee: (i) Electrical Resistivity Tomography (ERT), (ii) Induced Polarization (IP) and (iii) Electromagnetic Conductivity (EMC). Geoelectrical measurement results were presented in the form of resistivity and polarization cross-sections. Results of conductivity measurement were presented in the form of plots. These parameters effectively supplement geotechnical testing, providing spatial information about the changes within the embankment and its substrate. It allows the prediction of potentially vulnerable areas to water percolation during flooding.

This study presents the main facts related to the development of income inequalities in OECD countries in recent years. In particular, the focus was on analysing the economic position of the middle class (middle income class), which is often neglected in analyses, in favour of the two extreme income groups, i.e. the poverty sphere and the group of the richest. It is worth filling this gap because the middle class is the backbone of modern society and decisively determines the possibilities of economic development. The analysis of the coefficients allowing the estimation of the size and affluence of the middle class indicates that this class is highly diversified among OECD countries. In countries such as: Slovakia, Slovenia, Norway, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Denmark, Hungary, Finland, Belgium, Sweden and Austria, there is a relatively large and affluent middle class. In contrast, in Anglo-Saxon countries, the middle class is relatively small and moderately affluent. The article empirically confirms the hypothesis that higher income inequalities are accompanied by middle-class erosion. Using the basic income ratio, in the form of the Gini coefficient for disposable income, a very strong negative correlation was identified both between this coefficient and the coefficient determining the size of the middle class (-0.91) and between the Gini coefficient and the coefficient determining the affluence of the middle class (-0, 84). Attention is paid to possible causes of the occurrence of the phenomenon of economic polarization. Proposals for solutions in the field of socio-economic policy aimed at limiting the scale of observed phenomena were also presented.
W opracowaniu przedstawiono główne fakty związane z kształtowaniem się w ostatnich latach nierówności dochodowych w krajach OECD. W szczególności skoncentrowano się na analizie położenia ekonomicznej klasy średniej (klasy średniego dochodu), która często jest pomijana w analizach, na rzecz dwóch skrajnych grup dochodowych, tzn. sfery ubóstwa oraz grupy osób najbogatszych. Warto uzupełniać tą lukę gdyż klasa średnia stanowi trzon nowoczesnego społeczeństwa i w decydującym stopniu rozstrzyga o możliwościach rozwoju gospodarki. Analiza współczynników pozwalających na oszacowanie rozmiarów oraz zamożności klasy średniej wskazuje, iż wśród krajów OECD klasa ta jest mocno zróżnicowana. W krajach takich jak: Słowacja, Słowenia, Norwegia, Czechy, Holandia, Dania, Węgry, Finlandia, Belgia, Szwecja i Austria występuje relatywnie duża i zamożna klasa średnia. Natomiast w krajach anglosaskich klasa średnia jest relatywnie mała i umiarkowanie zamożna. W artykule empirycznie potwierdzono hipotezę, iż większym nierównościom dochodowym towarzyszy erozja klasy średniej. Wykorzystując podstawowy wskaźnik zróżnicowania dochodów, w postaci współczynnika Giniego dla dochodów rozporządzalnych, zidentyfikowano bardzo silną korelację ujemną zarówno pomiędzy tym współczynnikiem i współczynnikiem określającym wielkość klasy średniej (-0,91), jak i pomiędzy współczynnikiem Giniego i współczynnikiem określającym zamożność klasy średniej (-0,84). Zwrócono uwagę na możliwe przyczyny występowania zjawiska polaryzacji ekonomicznej. Przedstawiono również propozycje rozwiązań w zakresie polityki społeczno-gospodarczej mającej na celu ograniczenie skali obserwowanych zjawisk.

W artykule poruszam zagadnienie pułapek pojawiających się w pracy z kategorią oporu i jej zastosowaniem w analizach teoretycznych oraz empirycznych. Prezentuję różne ujęcia tego pojęcia oraz omawiam jego wieloaspektowość i kontekstowość. W ramach pracy z tą kategorią wyłoniła się problematyka jej polaryzacji. Zjawisko to z jednej strony powoduje rozmycie kategorii oporu, z drugiej zaś może przyczynić się do jej nadmiernego zawężenia. Zarówno w jednym, jak i w drugim przypadku pojawia się ryzyko dostrzegania oporu w każdej sytuacji lub ignorowania jego wyraźnych przejawów. Celem tekstu jest ukazanie trudności w pracy ze złożoną kategorią teoretyczną i empiryczną, jaką niewątpliwie jest „opór” oraz omówienie pułapek wynikających z braku wnikliwej analizy literatury a także krytycznej refleksji nad studiami teoretycznymi i praktycznymi dotyczącymi danego pojęcia i terminów z nim związanych.
The article addresses the issue of pitfalls which appear during work with the category of resistance and its application in theoretical and empirical analyses. The article presents different perspectives on this notion and discusses its multidimensional character and contextuality. What emerged from the work with that category is its polarization. This phenomenon blurs the category of resistance, at the same time contributing to its excessive limitation. In both cases, there is a risk of recognizing resistance in every situation or ignoring its explicit displays. The aim of the article is to show the struggles of working with a complex theoretical and empirical category that is “resistance” as well as to discuss the pitfalls resulting from the lack of athorough literature analysis and a critical reflection on theoretical and practical studies concerning a given concept and terms connected to it.

Free Space Optical (FSO) communication is a quickly developing technology that is designed to handle high data rates while maintaining a good quality factor (Q-factor). Many novel techniques have been implemented to cope with atmospheric attenuating factors, such as fog and rain. Here, we have introduced circular polarization shift keying (C-PolSK) modulation to produce a stable and uniform light beam. The plane of polarized light keeps rotating along with the propagation vector, which helps reduce phase variations and cross-channel effects. C-PolSK provides higher penetrating power and attenuation resistance over linear polarization shift keying (L-PolSK). Two different C-PolSK models have been proposed and graphical comparisons, relying on such parameters as Q-factor, transmission distance and inputoutput power, have been made. The cases of moderate fog and rain attenuation are taken to verify the model’s efficiency. Polarized light is split into two orthogonal components and then modulated using the Mach-Zehnder modulator. One of the models also employs the principle of orthogonal differential phase shifting. Eye diagrams have been provided to verify the bit error rate (BER). The orthogonal differential phase shifted C-PolSK model proves to be the most suitable implementation prototype.

The corrosion inhibition of aluminium alloy in 0.5M H2SO4 solution in the presence of zinc gluconate at 301 K was investigated using weight loss and an electrochemical method. Surface analysis of the aluminium alloy sample was reviewed by a high resolution scanning electron microscope equipped with energy dispersive spectroscopy (HRSEM/ EDS). The readings were taken after 48 h for 28 days while the concentration of the inhibitor was varied from 0.5 to 2.0% g/v with an interval of 0.5. The result of the investigation shows that zinc gluconate has a good corrosion inhibition effect for aluminium alloy in 0.5 molar sulphuric acid solution and its efficiency attains more than 67% at 1.5% g/v concentration of zinc gluconate at 301 K. The potentiodynamic polarization data showed that zinc gluconate acts as a mixed type corrosion inhibitor. The adsorption of zinc gluconate on aluminium alloy has been found to obey Freundlich adsorption isotherm at all the concentration of zinc gluconate studied. The results obtained from different methods are in good agreement.

The corrosion inhibition behaviour of 1-Ethyl-3-methylimidazolium-methanesulphonate (EMIM[MS]) and 1-Ethyl-3-methylimidazolium acetate (EMIM[Ac]) on API 5LX-52 carbon steel in 2 M HCl was investigated using weight loss, potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance methods. The corrosion rates of carbon steel decreased in the presence of these ionic liquids. The inhibition efficiencies of the compounds increased with concentration and showed a marginal decrease with a 10°C increase in temperature. Polarization studies showed the compounds to be mixed type inhibitors with stronger anodic character. The adsorption mechanism of both compounds on the metal surface was via physical adsorption and the process obeyed the El-Awardy kinetic-thermodynamic model. The associated activation energy of corrosion and other thermodynamic parameters were calculated to elaborate on the thermodynamics and mechanism of the corrosion inhibition process. EMIM[MS] was found to inhibit the corrosion of carbon steel better than EMIM[Ac] and is attributed to the presence of the highly electronegative sulphur atom in its structure and its larger molecular size.

The aim of this study is to compare the corrosion resistance of X37CrMoV5-l tool steel after nanostructurization and after a conventional heat treatment. The nanostructuring treatment consisted of austempering at 300°C, which produced a microstructure composed of nanometric carbide-free bainite separated by nanometric layers of retained austenite. The retained austenite occurred also in form of blocks which partially undergo martensitic transformation during final cooling. For comparison, a series of steel samples were subjected to a standard quenching and high tempering treatment, which produced a microstructure of tempered martensite. The obtained results showed that the corrosion resistance of steel after both variants of heat treatment is similar. The results indicate that the nanocrystalline structure with high density of intercrystalline boundaries do not deteriorate the corrosion resistance of steel, which depends to a greater extent on its phase composition.

W artykule zaprezentowano odporność korozyjną powłok TiN, CrN, TiCN. Powłoki osadzono metodą łukowo-próżniową na stali SW7M i na węglu szklistym. Badania korozyjne powłok przeprowadzono w 0,8M roztworze NaCl. Wyznaczono potencjał obwodu otwartego, krzywe Tafela i Sterna, szybkość korozji, krzywą polaryzacji potencjodynamicznej i opór polaryzacji. Porównano właściwości korozyjne próbek pokrytych i niepokrytych powłokami. Uzyskane wyniki pokazują, że próbki ze stali SW7M pokryte powłokami posiadają potencjał korozyjny bardziej szlachetny.
The article presents problems of corrosion resistance of TiN, CrN, TiCN coatings. The coatings were deposited on samples of SW7M steel and of the glass-carbon by means of the arc-vacuum method. The corrosion behaviour of TiN, CrN and TiCN coatings was examined in 0.8M NaCl solution. The study was performed using open circuit potential, Tafel and Stern curves, corrosion rate, potentiodynamic polarization curve and polarization resistance. The corrosion behaviour of coated and uncoated samples was compared. The results illustrate that coated specimens TiN, CrN, TiCN possess nobler potentials than the uncoated SW7M steel.

Ion transport rate of PAFC, AFC, PEMFC, DMFC and SOFC fuel cells under the influence of an electric field and concentration gradient were evaluated for static electrolytes. AFC are the best fuel cells for high er current applications while direct methanol fuel cells DMFC are the best for lower current applications AT lower temperatures. An equation for voltage output of a general fuel cell was obtained in terms of temperature and partial pressure of reactants. Performance of a 2D fuel cell was analyzed by simulating polarization and power curves for a fuel cell operating at 60 ?C with a limiting current density of 1.5 A cm- 2. The maximum power for this fuel cell was 8.454 W delivering 82% of maximum loading current density. When the temperature was increased by one third of its original value, the maximum power increased by 6.75% and at 60 ?C for a 10 times increment of partial pressure of reactants, the maximum power increased by 2.43%.The simulated power curves of the fuel cells were best described by cubic fits.

Opis:
A polarization photonic crystal fiber based on surface plasmon resonance is proposed in this paper. The photonic crystal fiber with gold coated holes is studied through using the finite element method. The impacts of structural parameters on the resonance characteristics are discussed. Numerical simulations show that the resonance wavelength can be modulated by changing the parameters of the air holes and thickness of gold layer. At the resonance wavelength 1550 nm, the loss is 3.8045 dB/m in x-polarization and the loss is 28464 dB/m in y-polarization by adjusting the size of the gold-coated holes and the place of air holes. Results show that the loss of y-polarized mode is much larger than the loss of x-polarized mode. The y-polarized mode is suppressed, and only x-polarized mode can be guided at the resonance wavelength of y-polarized mode. The results indicate that the mode polarized in one direction can be filtered out selectively by adjusting the diameter of air holes, and the filtering effect in a communication band is achieved.

Charge GC, quadrupole GQ and magnetic GM deuteron form factor were calculated by analytic forms of the deuteron wave function in the coordinate space for nucleon-nucleon potentials NijmI, NijmII, Nijm93, Reid93 and Argonne v18. Theoretical calculations are compared with the experimental data from the leading collaborations (Bates, BLAST, Bonn, JLab, Mainz, Naval Research Lab, NIKHEF, Orsay, Saclay, SLAC, Stanford, VEPP3, VEPP4) and reviews (Abbott, Boden, Garcon, Karpius). The obtained position of the zero for the deuteron form factors for these five potentials was compared with the values for other potential models and experimental values. Further use of form factors for obtaining polarization observables is discussed.

The text analyzes social media in terms of the possibility of conducting a democratic debate through them. Initially, their users had great hopes to do so. Social media were to be not only a tool for expressing opinions or presenting statements but also for disseminating the model of liberal democracy. However, the business model of these media, as well as content filtering algorithms, introduced to protect users against information overload, prevented this from happening. To prove this thesis, the author referred to Sunstein's public forum doctrine and proved that social media do not constitute its equivalent. Although the media provided a space for discussion, they did not ensure equal access for senders of messages to recipients and recipients to a variety of content. The topic of the negative impact of social media on liberal democracy is already raised in English scholarship (and is already present in Poland through its translations) and it is also gradually gaining academic currency among Polish researchers. What constitutes a novel contribution to the already available research is the presentation of social media in the context of the utopian high hopes the media initially raised.

This study considers the role of chloride and sulphate anions in the cathodic reduction of zinc ions from gluconate solutions (chloride, sulphate, chloride-sulphate). Cyclic potentiodynamic and potentiostatic polarization measurements, as well as chronoamperometric experiments, were performed. Electrochemical results were correlated with the speciation of the baths. The experiments revealed the inhibiting effect of sulphate ions on the cathodic process caused by the formation of stable neutral ZnSO4 complex in the sulphate-gluconate bath. It resulted in zinc deposition under a limiting current, with the release of metal cation as a rate-determining step. The less stable ZnGlu+ complex dominated both chloride-containing baths, thus the metal deposition ran under activation control. Independent of the solution composition, the nucleation of zinc occurred according to the instantaneous model.
W artykule przedstawiono rolę anionów chlorkowych i siarczanowych w katodowej redukcji jonów cynku z roztworów glukonianowych (chlorkowy, siarczanowy, chlorkowo-siarczanowy). Przeprowadzono pomiary cyklicznej polaryzacji potencjodynamicznej i potencjostatycznej oraz eksperymenty chronoamperometryczne. Wyniki elektrochemiczne skorelowano ze składem jonowym roztworów. Eksperymenty wykazały hamujący wpływ jonów siarczanowych na proces katodowy w kąpieli siarczanowo-glukonianowej spowodowany tworzeniem się stabilnego obojętnego kompleksu ZnSO4. W rezultacie, w elektrolicie siarczanowym osadzanie cynku zachodziło w warunkach prądu granicznego, a etapem powolnym było uwalnianie jonu metalu z kompleksu. W obecności jonów chlorkowych dominujący kompleks stanowił mniej trwały ZnGlu+, a redukcja jonów cynku zachodziła w warunkach kontroli aktywacyjnej. Niezależnie od składu roztworu stwierdzono natychmiastowe zarodkowanie cynku.

Terahertz (THz) linear-to-circular (LTC) polarization conversion plays a crucial role in imaging and 6G wireless communication. This paper will give an account of a thermally tunable THz LTC polarization converter by using the active all-dielectric metasurface. It consists of zirconium oxide (ZrO2) microsphere resonators, active strontium titanate (STO) cladding, and flexible polyimide substrate. Through numerical simulation, the amplitude of the ellipticity of the proposed polarization converter at 0.265 THz is –1, indicating that perfect right-hand circular polarization (RHCP) wave is achieved. Meanwhile, the amplitude of the ellipticity is less than –0.8 between 0.247 and 0.278 THz (relative bandwidth is 12%). In addition, with the temperature changes of 180 K (from 200 to 380 K), the operating frequency of the converter can be tuned from 0.220 to 0.291 THz, a sensitivity about 39 GHz/100 K is achieved. Besides, the modulation depth of the ellipticity amplitude can achieve 92% at 0.220 THz, which demonstrates that the converter can output terahertz wave with different polarization states, and the device can be fabricated on a large scale. These perfect conversion performances show that the converter has potential applications in high-speed communication and imaging.

For high speed downlinking of payload data from small satellites, a new 4×4 aperture coupled microstrip patch array antenna has been presented. The antenna is designed for the Ku band and a peak gain of 18.0 dBi is achieved within the impedance bandwidth from 11.75 GHz to 12.75 GHz. Wide bandwidth is achieved as the patch elements are excited through E-shaped slots having asymmetric side lengths and widths. Each square patch element of the array with truncated corners and appropriately placed slots generates right hand circularly polarized (RHCP) radiation with very high cross-polarization discrimination. A corporate feed network consisting of T-junctions and quarter-wave impedance transformers is developed to feed the array elements from a single coaxial port of 50 Ω. To improve the radiation from the patches and wave-guiding in the feed network, two types of Rogers substrates with different dielectric constant and thickness are considered. Our proposed microstrip patch array antenna of size 7.8 cm × 6.4 cm × 0.3 cm can perform efficiently with a downlink data rate as high as 4.6 Gbps for small satellites.

Which different conceptions of the so-called “American Dream” are still alive or gaining ground in the increasingly polarized social climate of the United States during the Trump era? I intend to shed light on this question by analyzing the different types of success ethics presented in the highly popular Netflix series Cobra Kai (2018 - present). This will include an investigation into notions of merit and masculinity and how they are intertwined in the principal conflict between the two main characters: the blue-collar Johnny Lawrence and the affluent Daniel LaRusso – both of whom operate their own respective karate schools. I will embed this conflict within a theoretical framework undergirded by Michael Sandel’s observations on contemporary definitions of “meritocracy” and the associated “rhetoric of rising.” In addition, I will lean on George Lakoff’s linguistic concepts of the “strict vs nurturant parent,” and Lauren Berlant’s notion of “cruel optimism.” In doing so, I hope to illuminate the deep-seated workings of competing philosophies on what “it takes to get ahead” in today’s United States. One of my main findings is that Lawrence’s brand of hard-bodied, Reagan-era masculinity is mutually reinforced with LaRusso’s incremental and cosmopolitan approach, thereby perpetuating polarization and antagonism. The fact that both karate teachers are keen to impart their vision on a younger generation is also indicative of how this enmity represents a battle for the “soul of America.” Given ongoing trends toward increasing social, economic, and cultural divides within the U.S., it is of great importance to examine how these developments are negotiated in popular culture. Cobra Kai offers fertile ground for addressing this question.

This study examines the framing of the social movement in Iran launched on 29 December 2017, by analyzing the news texts of six national Turkish newspapers. It discusses the movement in the context of news framing, focusing on problem definition, causal interpretation, moral evaluation, and treatment recommendation. The findings suggest that each newspaper has reported the social movement in Iran quite differently. The most obvious difference is that the left-wing, anti-government press mainly explained the events in terms of political, economic, and social factors while the right-wing, pro-government press attributed the events to ‘foreign forces’ and reflected the dominant discourse of political power while framing the news. Thus, the way Turkish newspapers frame a social movement outside the country reveals the intense polarization in the Turkish press.

Corrosion of water distribution system is a significant issue causing problems with quality, safety and continuity of distribution. The changes of corrosion rates of the water distribution systems in Cracow made of carbon steel were investigated by analysis of online corrosion monitoring system results. Corrosion rates were determined using the linear polarization method. The impactof rain, temperatures, conductivity, dissolved oxygen content on corrosion rate were characterized. The corrosivity of different water sources like mountain water, underground water or river water were indicated. The possible actions for reducing corrosion losses were characterized. Results show that pollution of the environment in the form of acid rain and runoff from agriculture as well as the type of the source water has significant influence on corrosion of water distribution system. Corrosion monitoring system gives possibility of controlling corrosion rate by mixing waters from different sources in the way to obtain less corrosive mixture. (see Fig 8).

The natural wound healing process consists of four basic phases: homeostasis, inflammation, proliferation, and remodelling. Macrophages play an important role in the body’s response to biomaterials, as they are modulators of the wound healing process and can polarize into different phenotypes capable of inducing both deleterious and beneficial effects on tissue repair. Curcumin (CU) is known for its anti-inflammatory properties and has the potential to treat diabetic foot ulcers, but it should be delivered to wounds in a controlled manner. In this study, the encapsulation of curcumin in polymeric microparticles based on poly(sebacic anhydride) (PSA) was developed using an emulsification method. PSA-based microparticles containing different concentrations of CU were obtained: 0% weight (wt). CU (unloaded microparticles), 5, 10, and 20 wt% CU. CU encapsulation efficiency and loading were determined using a fluorescence-based calibration curve method and semi-quantitative Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) analysis. The potential cytotoxicity of the obtained biomaterials in contact with primary human macrophages and their susceptibility to polarization from the M1 (pro-inflammatory) phenotype to the M2 (antiinflammatory) phenotype were evaluated. The morphology of cells cultured in contact with polymeric microparticles was evaluated using phalloidin red and 4′,6-diamidino2-phenylindole (DAPI) staining. Macrophage phenotype was assessed using flow cytometry. The obtained biomaterials showed no cytotoxic effect on primary human macrophages. Flow cytometry studies showed enhanced polarization of macrophages into anti-inflammatory M2 phenotype when exposed to microparticles loaded with CU and CU powder as compared to unloaded microparticles

Oil slicks often show uncertain surface roughness and Fresnel reflection parameters. Consequently, differentiating oil spilled on the seawater in these areas using optical sensors is a challenge. Therefore, the optical mechanism of the oil film has been studied by the Maxwell equation. It is found that the polarization characteristics of the oil slicks can help us to overcome this problem. According to the Fresnel formula, the scattering coefficient and scattering rate of the homogeneous oil film have been deduced, and the phase difference of the scattering electromagnetic wave has also been calculated to verify the accuracy of the model. The parameter, a degree of scattering polarization, has been derived to identify the oil slicks on the sea wave. It depends on accurately knowing the Stokes parameter for the reflected light, and varies with the refractive index of the surface layer and viewing angles. The actual spilled oil has been measured by this model, and the oil film can be accurately identified at various angles. These preliminary results suggest that the potential of multi-angle polarization measurement of ocean surface needs further researches.

The aim of the article is to show the condition of Polish democracy on the example of two elections held in 2019 and 2020. The elections brought about a positive phenomenon for democ racy, which is an increase in voter turnout. On the other hand, negative phenomena appeared, in particular the violent political polarization within the political community. The example of the Polish elections was then confronted with the perception of democracy among Polish society in a comparative approach, i.e. against the perception of other European nations. Against this background, the assessment of Polish democracy by Poles is exceptionally positive. Later in the article, an attempt was made to consider to what extent the integration processes may be responsible for weakening democracy in the Member States, as well as for the decline in trust in democratic institutions in the west and southern part of the continent.
Celem artykułu jest ukazanie kondycji polskiej demokracji na przykładzie dwóch wyborów przeprowadzonych w 2019 i 2020 roku. Wybory przyniosły pozytywne zjawisko z punktu widzenia jakości demokracji, jakim jest wzrost frekwencji wyborczej. Z drugiej strony pojawiły się negatywne zjawiska, w szczególności gwałtowna polaryzacja polityczna w ramach wspólnoty politycznej. Przykład wyborów w Polsce i postrzeganie demokracji w społeczeństwie polskim zostały pokazane w ujęciu porównawczym, czyli w odniesieniu do percepcji demokracji u innych narodów europejskich. Na tym tle ocena krajowej demokracji przez Polaków jest wyjątkowo pozytywna. W dalszej części artykułu podjęto próbę rozważenia, w jakim stopniu procesy integracyjne mogą odpowiadać za osłabienie postrzegania demokracji w państwach członkowskich, a zwłaszcza za spadek zaufania do instytucji demokratycznych w zachodniej i południowej części kontynentu.

The paper focuses on presenting the research results of a community-based project titled ‘ICT Guides’, in which we investigated the features and functions of intergenerational learning with the use of ICT tools, which open the way for the virtual word. This was accomplished by surveying 267 youth and seniors attending 16 ICT courses in Gothenburg (Sweden), Sheffield (the United Kingdom), Madrid (Spain), and Berlin (Germany), with the use of a questionnaire. Both groups perceive intergenerational learning with the use of ICT as a chance to get to know the other group, despite age and cultural differences. With the use of ICT tools in intergenerational learning, mobile devices make up for a lack of a good command of language when communication problems occur, through application of texts, pictures, movies and music available online. ICT also facilitates mutual understanding and contributes to breaking the polarization that can occur between immigrant youth and unrelated adults, to the mutual benefit of both parties.

Corrosion resistance of the X4MnSiAlNbTi27-4-2 and X6MnSiAlNbTi26-3-3 type austenitic steels, after hot deformation as well as after cold rolling, were evaluated in 3.5% NaCl solution using potentiodynamic polarization tests. A type of nonmetallic inclusions and their pitting corrosion behaviour were investigated. Additionally, the effect of cold deformation on the corrosion resistance of high-Mn steels was studied. The SEM micrographs revealed that corrosion damage formed in both investigated steels is characterized by various shapes and an irregular distribution at the metallic matrix, independently on the steel state (thermomechanically treated or cold worked). Corrosion pits are generated both in grain interiors, grain boundaries and along the deformation bands. Moreover, corrosion damage is stronger in cold deformed steels in comparison to the thermomechanically treated specimens. EDS analysis revealed that corrosion pits preferentially nucleated on MnS and AlN inclusions or complex oxysulphides. The morphology of corrosion damage in 3.5% NaCl supports the data registered in potentiodynamic tests.

In this study the materials dealing with the Soviet realities published in Warsaw by the Russian emigrants’ weekly “Mech” during a year period (the first 45 issues) are analyzed. The analysis constitutes a segment of historical and political context prevailing at that time in Poland, especially of its complex relations with the Soviet Union. In retrospect one can observe a distinct turn in the weekly’s activity explained partly by a change of its form - from a magazine to newspaper (issue 21) which demanded replacement of is analytic way by more informative attitude and partly by separation from emigrant centre in Paris. The air of publications reflected difficult situation of the emigrants, though all information this way or another dealing with the Soviets was filled with biting comments and sheer anti-Soviet rhetoric. Also a clear quantitative tendency is shown in the number of the Soviets related publications, from 1-3 in the initial period up to 11-13 by the end of the period under the study. The scope of issues was also widening embracing economy, political life, repression, education, Soviet manhood, etc. The publication type change is also traced evolving to a more eye-witness, document support, interview, Soviet source mentioning, citation from contemporary Soviet literature depicting real life columnistic kind. The material analyzed gives much food for thought about the character of the Russian identity and its tragic split.

Opis:
Compact radiators with circular polarization are important components of modern mobile communication systems. Their design is a challenging process which requires maintaining simultaneous control over several performance figures but also the structure size. In this work, a novel design framework for multi-stage constrained miniaturization of antennas with circular polarization is presented. The method involves sequential optimization of the radiator in respect of selected performance figures and, eventually, the size. Optimizations are performed with iteratively increased number of design constraints. Numerical efficiency of the method is ensured using a fast local-search algorithm embedded in a trust-region framework. The proposed design framework is demonstrated using a compact planar radiator with circular polarization. The optimized antenna is characterized by a small size of 271 mm2 with 37% and 47% bandwidths in respect of 10 dB return loss and 3 dB axial ratio, respectively. The structure is benchmarked against the state-of-the-art circular polarization antennas. Numerical results are confirmed by measurements of the fabricated antenna prototype.

The article presents an overview of changes and relevant problems that have occurred in Moscow in the period of post-Soviet transformation. Authors briefly discuss historical and contemporary studies on capital city of Russia in the field of social geography. On this background authors comment on contemporary hypothesis related to metropolisation processes including social and spatial polarization observed in global cities.

The results of algorithmic approbation of the technique of polarization tomography digital histological study of the age of damageto the myocardium and lung tissue based on the polarization reconstruction of linear birefringence maps are presented. Relationships betweenthe temporal change in the magnitude of statistical moments of 1-4 orders characterizingthe distribution of the magnitude of the degree of crystallization of histological sections of the myocardium and lung tissue and the duration of damage were determined. Established time intervals and accuracyof determining the prescription of damage to the myocardium and lung tissue.
Przedstawiono wyniki algorytmicznej aprobaty techniki polaryzacyjnej tomografii cyfrowej histologicznego badania wieku uszkodzenia mięśnia sercowego i tkanki płucnej na podstawie rekonstrukcji polaryzacyjnej liniowych map dwójłomności. Określono zależnościpomiędzy czasową zmianą wartości momentów statystycznych 1-4 rzędów, charakteryzujących rozkład stopnia krystalizacji skrawków histologicznych tkanki mięśnia sercowego i płuc, a czasem trwania uszkodzeń. Ustalono przedziały czasowe i dokładność określaniapredykcji uszkodzenia mięśnia sercowego i tkanki płucnej.

The Ni-5%Al alloy coatings and Ni-5% Al-15%Al2O3 composite coatings were obtained by plasma spraying method. The PN120 gun was used. The coatings onto a shaft made of austenitic stainless steel (X5CrNi 18-10) were sprayed. The coatings were subjected to turning, burnishing. The evaluation of corrosion properties were based on the measurements of corrosion current density and corrosion potential (polarization method), the charge transfer resistance and exponent of constant phase element impedance (electrochemical impedance spectroscopy method). Corrosion tests were performed in replacement seawater (3.5% sodium chloride solution). On the basis of studies, the effect of finishing type on the corrosion properties of plasma sprayed coatings has been demonstrated. The lowest corrosion current density was found for Ni-5% Al coatings after burnishing, icorr value equal to 0.96 A/cm2, and the charge transfer resistance was 27007 Ωcm2. The lowest resistance to corrosion of turned Ni-5%Al-15%Al2O3 composite coatings was observed. These coatings were characterized by the following parameters of corrosion process: icorr = 17.64 A/cm2, Rct = 2137 Ωcm2. Burnishing caused increased corrosion resistance of coatings. Due to reduced roughness and waviness are obtained reduction of the area of the actual burnished coatings compared to turned coatings. Thus, it is resulting in reduced values of corrosion current density. After finishing treatment, the plasma sprayed Ni-5%Al-15%Al2O3 coatings characterized by lower corrosion resistance compared to the alloy coating. The presence of the reinforcing phase in the coating promotes the increase of the porosity. The plasma sprayed coatings on nickel matrix had a tendency to localized corrosion in sodium chloride solution.

Opis:
Within the maximum likelihood method an optimal algorithm for polarization target selection against the background of interfering signal reflected from the earth’s surface is synthesized. The algorithm contains joint operations of spectral interference rejection and their polarization compensation by means of certain combinations of interchannel subtraction of signals of different polarizations. The physical features of the elements of the polarization scattering matrix are investigated for the technical implementation of the synthesized algorithm.

A displacement sensor based on polarization-maintaining fiber has been proposed and proved in experiment. The polarization-maintaining fiber (PMF) is sandwiched with two graded-index multimode fibers (GI MMF), which form the Mach–Zehnder interferometer (MZI) sensor. Graded-index multimode fiber serve as an optical coupler for modes conversion. The results show that with the increase of displacement, the spectrum moves to the long wavelength direction, but when temperature increases, the spectrum has a red shift, which means that the displacement and temperature can be measured separately according to the wavelength drift direction. The sensor consists of 4 mm GI MMF and 14 mm PMF, which can exhibit the displacement sensitivity of –9.275 pm/μm in the range of 0–600 μm. In addition, temperature will also affect the sensitivity of displacement measurement, so the sensitivity of the sensor to temperature is also measured. The results show that the selected monitoring dip provides a better temperature sensitivity of 33.605 pm/°C in the range of 35–75°C. The sensor is easy to fabricate and does not has any functional coating, which make it become a good candidate in the industrial field.

In the present paper, investigation on the polarization and coherence fluctuations of a flat-topped array beam in non-Kolmogorov atmospheric optics links has been presented. For this purpose, the spectral degree of polarization and coherence at the receiver plane is analytically formulated via the extended Huygens–Fresnel integral and the unified theory of polarization and coherence. The influences of the laser beam parameters and the power law exponent that describes the non-Kolmogorov spectrum of the statistical propagation properties of a partially coherent flat-topped array laser beam has been studied in detail. For the employed parameters, it can be concluded that the increase in the structure constant of turbulence (which is equivalent to the increase in turbulence strength) leads to a fast reduction in the spectral degree of coherence. Moreover, when the power law exponent is 3.1, the spectral degree of coherence exhibits a minimum value in comparison with the Kolmogorov atmospheric turbulence.

Cold spraying as a low-temperature coating deposition method is intended for thermally sensitive materials. Due to its precise temperature control, it limits the formation of structural defects, and can therefore be easily applied to spray corrosion protective coatings made from metal or metal-ceramic powders. However, the formation of pure ceramic coatings with the use of cold spraying is still not so common. Titanium dioxide is one of the most interesting ceramics due to its photocatalytic properties. Nevertheless, these types of coating materials usually work in a corrosion favoring humid atmosphere. In the presented paper, amorphous TiO2 powder was deposited onto aluminum alloys and steel substrates and then submitted to potentiodynamic corrosion tests in a 3.5 wt.% NaCl solution. The as-sprayed coating showed phase transition from amorphous TiO2 to anatase, and also revealed porosity. As a result, electrolytes penetrated the coating and caused undercoating corrosion in the tested environment of an aqueous NaCl solution. The analysis of the potentiodynamic curves showed that the presence of the coating decreased corrosion potential on both substrates. It arose from the mixed phases of TiO2, which consisted of photocathode - amorphous material and photoanode - crystalline anatase. The phase mixture induced the galvanic corrosion of metallic substrates in the presence of electrolytes. Moreover, pitting-like corrosion and coating delamination were detected in aluminium alloy and steel samples, respectively. Finally, the corrosion mechanism of the titanium dioxide coatings was characterized and described.

Stainless steels are widely used for various automotive components. Some of them (e.g., parts of the exhaust system) are exposed to the external environment. In winter conditions, they are affected by chloride containing road salt solutions, which can lead to the local corrosion of these stainless steel parts. The presented paper is focused on the pitting corrosion resistance of two austenitic stainless steels (AISI 304 and AISI 316L) in 5 wt% and 10 wt% road salt solutions. The evaluation and comparison are based on the potentiodynamic polarization test method carried out at the temperature of 20 ± 2°C. The pitting potentials were determined from the polarization curves. Local corrosion damage of exposed surfaces caused by potentiodynamic polarization in the used solutions was observed by optical microscope. Experimental results confirmed a worse pitting corrosion resistance case, especially for AISI 304 stainless steel in 10 wt% road salt solution.

This paper deals with the phase shift development in the polarization-maintaining fiber owing to different temperatures of an applied defined body, where both polarization axes are excited. A variation of the Stokes parameters induced by the phase shift is expressed by the Jones matrix and a depiction on the observable Poincaré sphere. The temperature response of polarization-maintaining fiber and the effects of heat transfer on the phase shift variation of polarization-maintaining fiber were described theoretically. The time dependence of the phase shift development and its direction of rotation on the observable Poincaré sphere was measured and presented graphically. In addition, different response measures for higher and lower temperatures compared with the ambient temperature were experimentally evaluated.

Within the framework of the study of radiative corrections to the polarization observed in elastic ed- scattering in leptonic variables have been calculated the Born values of vector , and tensor , , asymmetries. The deuteron wave functions in coordinate representation for eight nucleon-nucleon potentials (Nijm1, Nijm2, Nijm93, Reid93, Argonne v18, OBEPC, MT and Paris) have been used for numerical calculations of vector and tensor asymmetries. The angular-momentum dependence of values vector and tensor asymmetries have been also evaluated in 3D format for Reid93 potentials.

The extraction of quantitative information from Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) data sets (radargrams) to detect and map underground utility pipelines is a challenging task. This study proposes several algorithms included in the main stages of a data processing chain associated with radargrams. It comprises preprocessing, hyperbola enhancing, hyperbola detection and localization, and parameter extraction. Additional parameters related to the GPR system such as the frequency band and the polarization bring data sets additional information that need to be exploited. Presently, the algorithms have been applied step by step on synthetic and experimental data. The results help to guide future developments in signal processing for quantitative parameter estimation.

Przedmiotem badań było porównanie odporności na korozję elektrochemiczną dwóch gatunków kwasoodpornego staliwa ferrytyczno-austenitycznego (duplex): klasycznego zawierającego 24Cr-5Ni-2,5Mo-2,6Cu z nowym gatunkiem staliwa zawierającym 24Cr-5Mn-2Ni-3Mo, w którym Ni częściowo został zastąpiony przez Mn i N. Zawartość pierwiastków austenitotwórczych (Ni, Mn i N) została tak dobrana, aby udział ferrytu δ w staliwie wynosił 45÷50%. Na podstawie przeprowadzonych badań korozyjnych stwierdzono, że oba materiały ulegają samorzutnej pasywacji w 3% roztworze NaCl. Staliwo z podwyższoną zawartością Mn i N posiada znacznie wyższą wartość potencjału bezprądowego (Eo = -0,7 V), niż klasyczne staliwo duplex (Eo = -0,95V) oraz wykazuje zasadnicze różnice w gęstości prądu anodowego. Jest ono również bardziej odporne na korozję lokalną. Analiza mikrostrukturalna produktów korozji wskazuje na obecność nielicznych wżerów korozyjnych powstających głównie na wtrąceniach niemetalicznych.
The aim of the studies was to compare the electrochemical corrosion resistance of the two grades of acid-resistant cast austenitic-ferritic (duplex) steel, i.e. the conventional grade containing 24Cr-5Ni-2.5Mo-2.6Cu and a cast steel grade containing 24Cr-5Mn-2Ni-3Mo, where Ni was partially replaced by a higher content of Mn and N. The content of austenite-forming elements (Ni, Mn and N) has been chosen in such a way as to keep the δ ferrite fraction in the cast steel at a level of 45 ÷ 50%. Based on the corrosion test results, it was found that both materials undergo a spontaneous passivation in the 3% NaCl solution. The cast steel with increased content of Mn and N has a much higher value of the electro less potential (Eo = -0.7 V) than the conventional cast duplex steel (Eo = -0,95V), and shows substantial differences in the anodic current density. It is also more resistant to local corrosion. Microstructural analysis of corrosion products indicates the presence of very few corrosion pits formed mainly on the non-metallic inclusions.

This article proposes the application of regression trees for analysing income polarization. Using an approach to polarization based on the analysis of variance, we show that regression trees can uncover groups of homogeneous income receivers in a data-driven way. The regression tree can deal with nonlinear relationships between income and the characteristics of income receivers, and it can detect which characteristics and their interactions actually play a role in explaining income polarization. For these features, the regression tree is a flexible statistical tool to explore whether income receivers concentrate around local poles. An application to Italian individual income data shows an interesting partition of income receivers.

Fe-Cu-C sintered steels are widely used as powder materials, because of its small volumetric shrinkage. However, Cu, which acts as cathode enhance formation of rust Fe2O3·xH2O during fabrication. To prevent formation of Fe2O3·xH2O rust preventive oils are widely used. High viscosity of those rust preventive oils decrease workability. While, low viscosity degrade rust preventive performance. Therefore, it is necessary to develop new rust preventive oils with contradictory properties of low viscosity and superior rust prevention. In this study, we developed technique to quantitatively evaluate rust prevention ability by measuring polarization curve through thin corrosive solution on Fe-Cu-C sintered steels coated with rust preventive oils. The electrochemical measurements were carried out in corrosive solution of 0.35 mass % NaCl. Using a double capillary was added dropwise to the specimen. From the experimental, it is possible to evaluate the corrosion rate quantitatively in the surface of specimen, which was coated with rust preventive oil through thin corrosive solution. From the measurement results, Corrosion rate is reduced by coating the rust preventive oil. Especially, corrosion rate of the specimen coated with oil that showed best performance indicated 10000 times better than that of without oil ones. Zn addition negative correlation between corrosion rate and period of potential oscillation.
Spiekane stale Fe-Cu-C są szeroko stosowane jako materiały proszkowe, ze względu na mały skurcz objętościowy. Jednak miedź, która zachowuje się jak katoda, wpływa na zwiększone powstawanie rdzy Fe2O3·xH2O w procesie wytwarzania stali. Aby zapobiec tworzeniu się Fe2O3·xH2O stosuje się oleje ochronne. Jednak wysoka lepkość olejów zmniejsza ich urabialność, natomiast niska lepkość zmniejsza ich właściwości ochronne. Z tych względów konieczne jest opracowanie nowego typu olejów przeciwrdzewnych charakteryzujących się zarówno niską lepkością jak i dobrymi właściwościami ochronnymi. W niniejszej pracy opracowano metodę ilościowej oceny właściwości ochronnych olejów za pomocą pomiaru krzywej polaryzacji poprzez cienką warstwę roztworu korozyjnego na spiekanych stalach Fe-Cu-C pokrytych olejami ochronnymi. Pomiary elektrochemiczne zostały przeprowadzone w roztworze korozyjnym NaCl (0,35 %wag.). Roztwór został naniesiony na próbkę za pomocą kapilary. Na podstawie wyników eksperymentalnych można ilościowo oszacować szybkość korozji zachodzącej na powierzchni próbki. Badania wykazały, że olej ochronny zmniejsza szybkość korozji. Olej dla którego otrzymano najlepsze wyniki wykazał poprawę właściwości ochronnych 10000 krotnie w porównaniu z próbkami bez oleju. Dodatkowo stwierdzono korelację pomiędzy szybkością korozji a okresem oscylacji potencjału.

In the framework of contemporary cosmology, the age-old aspiration to inquire the outer limits of the universe translates into our effort to observe the initial stages of cosmic history. Thanks to a fortunate combination of astronomical circumstances, and pushing mm-wave technology to its limits, today we are able to image the early universe in great detail, back at a time (t ∼ 380,000 yr) when cosmic age was only 0.0027% of its present value. The state of the art in the field has been set by the ESA Planck mission, launched in 2009, dedicated to precision measurements of the cosmic microwave background (CMB). Planck observed the full sky for 4 years in a wide frequency range, reaching μK sensitivity both in temperature and polarization. The latest results, published by the Planck Collaboration in 2018, are in exquisite agreement with the simplest 6-parameter ΛCDM model and constrain the main cosmological parameters with percent-level accuracy. Furthermore, the Planck data yield insight on the very early universe (t ∼ 10-35s), opening the way to a new generation of experiments searching for the possible signatures of primordial gravitational waves in the CMB polarization pattern.

The role of the media in polarizing the debate on immigration has been subject to a growing amount of research; yet little is known about whether and how online comment sections related to news articles on immigration reshape the journalistic narrative. This study examines readers’ reactions to the media coverage by employing a quantitative content analysis of over 6,000 users’ comments responding to 128 online news articles on immigration. It concludes that generally the discussants’ perspective does not differ significantly from the medium’s framing of the issue with one important exception: the human rights frame accentuated by the medium is strictly refused by the discussants. The discussants also bring the economic and cultural aspects of immigration into the debate. The article thus contributes to a more general understanding of the role the users’ discussions play in shaping the debates on controversial political issues.

W artykule przedstawiono metodologię i wyniki pomiarów macierzy Muellera wybranych włókien światłowodowych zrealizowanych z wykorzystaniem autorskiego, specjalistycznego oprogramowania sterującego. Oprogramowanie to umożliwia zdalny i szybki pomiar oraz automatyczne wyznaczenie interesujących wielkości fizycznych opisujących badane włókna. Pomiar macierzy Muellera przeprowadzano w konfiguracji układowej: źródło światła, specjalizowany światłowodowy generator stanu polaryzacji, badane włókno oraz polarymetr z wejściem światłowodowym.
The rapid development of telecommunication and sensor technology requires more comprehensive evaluation of the optical properties of optical components used. At present it seems that in both groups of applications, obtaining information about the polarization properties of fiber-optic components used in an optical path plays an increasing role. This leads to the need for ever more sophisticated measurement techniques in which the key issue is to use a computer performing functions of control, reading and processing data. In this paper a methodology and experimental results of Mueller matrices measurements of optical fibres based on specially designed software are presented. The successive sections present: the theoretical basis of the measurement method, the measurement system, description of the library I/O - VISA and the measurement results. The developed software allows for remote and fast measurements as well as control of all devices in the measurement system. A Mueller matrix was measured based on the following configuration: a laser light source, an optical fibre polarization generator, a tested optical fibre and a polarimeter with an optical fibre adapter (Fig. 1). The presented preliminary results are satisfactory and give a very good perspective for building a measurement system that will allow for automatic characterization of not only the polarization properties of optical fibers, but also passive components made based on them. The described measurement system will be used as a base for developing the system enabling full characterization of fiber optic components with special reference to their polarizing properties.

W oparciu o prace własne oraz doniesienia literaturowe przedstawiono przykładowe wyniki badań wybranych metod elektrycznych. Wyniki prac własnych osiągnięte zostały w ramach badań dotyczących budowy jak i charakteryzacji tlenkowych ogniw paliwowych i innych urządzeń elektroceramicznych.
Methods of solid state electrochemistry used for investigation of solid oxide fuel cells are presented. Appropriate examples of fuel cell characterization results based on own experience and literature data are included. The presented results were obtained in the course of research related to fabrication and evaluation of solid oxide fuel cells and other electroceramic devices. Some remarks on quality assurance of performing measurements are emphasized.

Gegenstand des vorliegenden Beitrags sind Formen populistischen Argumentierens. Anhand eines Redebeispiels aus dem rechten politischen Spektrum der Bundesrepublik soll demonstriert werden, mit welchen sprachlichen Mitteln und Verfahren eigene Positionen aufgewertet und attraktiv gemacht werden, auf welche Weise Abgrenzungen und Abwertungen der politischen Konkurrenz erfolgen. Besondere Aufmerksamkeit gilt der Frage, ob und inwieweit sich parteispezifische Muster feststellen lassen.
The present paper approaches the populists’  argumentation strategies adopted by their ideology. The investigation is carried out on a case study of a speech for the far-right political spectrum in the Federal Republic of Germany. The aim is to identify linguistic realization of such strategies and practices employed to grow the populists’ stature and devalue the integrity of the political competition. Particular attention is paid to the question of party-related patterns and how strong they exist.
