Opis:
Analiza wyników pozwala stwierdzić, iż niskie stężenia należy wykorzystywać do wykonywania warstwy uszczelniającej. Natomiast do warstwy selektywnej należy wybierać wyższe stężenia, co w efekcie daje jednolitą i o średniej grubości warstwę. Słowa kluczowe: separacja gazów, membrana kompozytowa, PDMS
Composite membranes are frequently used for gas separation. They ar made of a support and selective layer. Separation takes place in the sclectiv layer. Our attention was focuscd on the selection of appropriate modificatio conditions. It was found that low concentrations should be used to perfon the sealing layer. However, the selective layer should be made from highc concentrations. Which results in an average thickness and uniform layer.

Opis:
In this paper, we present cytotoxicity analysis (determination of lactate dehydrogenase — LDH activity performed in a designed and fabricated microfl uidic system. This method allowed for analysis of a supernatant collected from A549 (human lung cancer) and HT-29 (human colon cancer epithelial) cells, which were incubated for 24 h with selected compounds. LDH is an intracellular enzyme present in tissues, which is released into the supernatant caused by membrane damage or cell lyses. In our tests, LDH-Cytotoxicity Assay Kit (BioVision) was used. The toxic eff ect of drugs was measured in the developed microsystem made of PDMS (poly(dimethylsiloxane)). Analytical reaction took place in the special designed microchannel geometry. Then, the LDH activity was measured at 490 nm using spectrophotometer. In subsequent experiments, appropriate conditions for measurements using a microfl uidic system were chosen. It was found that the selected reagent is sensitive to temperature changes and light exposure. Reaction time in the microsystem was determined by changes of fl ow rates of reagents. Afterwards, for the various reaction time, the toxic eff ect of 5-fl uorouracil, celecoxib and 1,4-dioxane was performed. The obtained results were compared with the results carried out in 96-well plates. Based on these results, it was noted that the enzymatic reaction time in the microsystem is shorter than in 96-well plate. Moreover, the advantage of using microsystem is also the small amount of reagents.

The process of carbon dioxide removal from monoethanolamine (MEA) - water solution was investigated on Poly Di Methyl Siloxane (PDMS) hydrophobic tubular membrane with a ceramic support. The effects of feed temperature, liquid flow rate and MEA concentration on C02 mass transfer and selectivity were examined and found to be with a reasonable deviation (+/-25%) with predictions based on the multilayer film model. The membrane resistance was evaluated in separate experiments. The measured C02 mass fluxes (0.17-0.45 kg/(m2h)) were found to be independent of the MEA concentration in the feed.

Opis:
This study discusses the synthesis, characterization and development of self-healing nanocomposite of amino-terminated PDMS (Polydimethylsiloxane), Epoxy (EPON828 ̧ Diethylenetriamine (DETA)), and Graphene Oxide (GO). GO was prepared using a modified Hummer’s method and was incorporated into the PDMS-Epoxy composite in various ratios (0.1 wt.%, 0.3 wt.%, and 0.5 wt.%) using toluene as the dispersing medium. Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy was used for confirming the presence of the designed/prepared structures, and thermo-mechanical analysis was performed to test the change in glass transition temperature and initiation temperature of self-healing process. The composite resins were coated on mild steel substrates by curing freshly prepared resins over the substrates at elevated temperatures. The corrosion behavior of mild steel in 3.5 wt.% NaCl solution before and after the coatings was studied using Tafel Electrochemical Polarization test. The self-healing properties of the materials were also studied by applying cuts on the material and letting them heal under elevated temperatures, and the results showed that the prepared coating demonstrated an effective corrosion resistance for mild steel for various marine applications

flexible-elastic deformation performance

Opis:
ZnS-based mechanoluminescent film has been widely used in the fields of stress visualization and stress sensing, due to its high brightness and repeatable stable luminescent characteristics. To evaluate the flexible-elastic deformation performance of ZnS-based mechanoluminescent film, both visual inspection and digital image correlation (DIC) are, respectively, employed for measuring the ZnS-based mechanoluminescent film. ZnS:Cu2+ mechanoluminescent powders are first mixed with polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) matrix to produce ZnS:Cu2+-PDMS mechanoluminescent film. Then, two measurement experiments are, respectively, conducted to investigate the mechanical response and the flexible-elastic deformation performance of the prepared ZnS:Cu2+-PDMS mechanoluminescent film. On one hand, the mechanical response performance of the ZnS:Cu2+-PDMS mechanoluminescent film is validated by visual monitoring of composite concrete fracture processes. On the other hand, the prepared ZnS:Cu2+-PDMS mechanoluminescent film is also measured by DIC to obtain its full-field deformations and strains information. The flexible-elastic deformation performance of the ZnS:Cu2+-PDMS mechanoluminescent film is well demonstrated by the DIC measured results.

Opis:
A rapidly growing pharmaceutical industry requires faster and more efficient ways to find and test new drugs. One of the new method for cell culture and examining the toxic effects of drugs is application of microfluidic systems. They provide new types of microenvironments and new methods for investigation of anticancer therapy. The use of microsystems is a solution that gives the opportunity to reduce not only cost and time, but also a number of tests on animals. In this paper we present designed and fabricated hybrid microfluidic systems which are applicable for cell culture, cell based cytotoxicity assays and photodynamic therapy procedures. Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) and sodium glass were used for fabrication of microdevices. The designed geometry of the microdevices includes cell culture microchambers and a concentration gradient generator (CGG). The CGG enables to obtain diff erent concentrations of tested drugs in a single step, which is a significant simplification of cytotoxicity assay procedure. In the designed microsystems three various cell lines (normal and carcinoma) were cultured and analyzed.

Evaluation of the effi ciency of photodynamic therapy (PDT) in a hybrid microfl uidic culture system was studied. The geometry of the utilized microsystem for PDT procedures consists microchambers for cell culture and microchannels, which create a concentration gradient generator (CGG). 5-aminolevulinic acid (ALA) as a precursor of the photosensitizer was used. The geometry of the microchip allowed to test diff erent concentrations of ALA in a single assay. Evaluation of the effi ciency of photodynamic therapy was determined 24 hours after PDT procedure (irradiation with light which induced accumulated in carcinoma cells). The performed microsystem contained two independent micropatterns, that enables examination simultaneously various cell lines (carcinoma and normal) or various photosensitizers.
