Opis:: In 2017, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations celebrated its 50th anniversary. One of the most urgent challenges the organization has to face up is the enlargement of its structures by a group of new members, including East Timor, which has been aspiring to become part of ASEAN community since 2011. The aim of this article is to present the broad scope of bilateral relations between the organization and East Timor with special attention paid to the latter’s path of accession, and an assessment of East Timor’s candidature’s strengths and weaknesses. Another key issue is an attempt to answer a question about the implications of East Timor’s possible participation in future ASEAN.
W roku 2017 państwa tworzące Stowarzyszenie Narodów Azji Południowo-Wschodniej obchodziły jubileusz 50-lecia powołania do życia wspólnoty. Jednym z bieżących i jednocześnie przyszłych wyzwań stojących przed tą organizacją jest poszerzenie struktur o kolejnych członków, w tym o starający się oficjalnie o przystąpienie do forum współpracy od 2011 r. Timor Wschodni. Celem poniższego artykułu jest przedstawienie relacji panujących pomiędzy wspólnotą ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) a państwem Timor Wschodni z uwzględnieniem jego dotychczasowej ścieżki akcesyjnej oraz ocena mocnych i słabych stron zgłoszonej kandydatury wraz z odpowiedzią na pytanie o implikacje ewentualnego przyjęcia do struktur stowarzyszenia.

Opis:: Regardless of the role attributed to the centuries-old tradition of Switzerland's atti-tude towards political and economic bilateral relations with individual countries and maintaining this pattern in international politics, the participation of Poland and Swit-zerland in international organizations continues to play a significant role in the relation between these two countries . Faced with the ever-increasing complexity of the global situation, which not only prevents isolationist policies, but also significantly reduces the effects of bilateral policy, the growing role of this plane is becoming increasingly appa-rent in numerous contexts of Polish-Swiss relations.

Opis:: The Association of South-East Asian Nations (ASEAN) represents the world's second most influential regional integration project after the European Union (EU). Its fiftieth anniversary in August 2017 prompted extensive commentary on the achievements of this important regional grouping as well as on the challenges and opportunities that it confronts as it begins its second half-century. This article draws on those commentaries to present a stock-take of ASEAN at fifty from a liberal perspective. While acknowledging ASEAN's achievements over the last fifty years, it highlights the daunting challenges that threaten the grouping's efficacy and cohesion, with attendant implications for wider regional architecture in the Asia-Pacific region. From rising nationalism to the constraints of the 'ASEAN Way' and the slow progress of the ASEAN Economic Community, the 'centrality' of the organisation for its member states is in question. External pressures posed by turbulent geopolitical tides make ASEAN's hard-won 'centrality' in wider Asia-Pacific affairs an even more contested concept. There are nonetheless opportunities for ASEAN to avert a mid-life crisis and revitalise regional integration. ASEAN's best chance of doing so is to apply liberal approaches to regional order in ways that will strengthen rules-based institutions, collective security, political dialogue, economic openness and tolerance of differences.(original abstract)
