Opis:
The aim of this article is to investigate what role was played by referring to the local history in the space of Lower Silesian towns in shaping the identity of their inhabitants. An analysis of the names of streets, monuments as well as of policies and declarations issued by the self-government entities and activities undertaken by the inhabitants themselves indicate that both in the town space and in the identity of the inhabitants, references to the past of the nation dominate. Local issues are very rarely invoked. The situation is different in Wrocław, capital city of the region, where the inhabitant’s identity has been built on pride in the past glory of the town – times both before and after 1945.

Opis:
At the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century experts underlined the vital meaning of light, greenery and kind of materials in equipping new school buildings. School buildings were surrounded by greenery which gave them shade and protected them from wind. Together with introducing nature as a subject into the teaching program small botanical gardens were designed near buildings. Gym classes were also very important. Sports grounds an playgrounds for smaller children became an inseparable element of schools. A well with drinking water was usually placed next to them.

Opis:
The purpose of this study was to identify compatibilities of land-use patterns resulting from adjacent functions within the rural commune of Oleśnica. The analysis was made based on the relevant studies of conditions and directions of spatial planning, as well as a field inventory. The results of the studies show that the applicable planning document became a potential source of spatial conflicts. On these grounds, a negative assessment was given to the functioning spatial planning system, which, according to the premises of spatial order and sustainable development, should prevent them. The existing incompatibilities are the result of issues with coordination of the local spatial policies. As a consequence, they cause an urban development chaos, lack of proper space shaping, environmental damage and lower the residents‘ quality of life.
