    Opis:
    The article presents a project carried out at the University of Łódź aimed at compiling a commented bibliography of Polish translations of Old Bulgarian, Old Serbian and Old Russian literature, Church Slavic literary works of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth as well as Orthodox liturgical texts. On the basis of the material collected so far, covering the 19th, 20th and the beginning of the 21st century, it is possible to divide the history of those translations. Aside from slavists and professional translators, the clergy of the Polish Autocephalous Orthodox Church, as well as representatives of Uniate parishes, have also been considerably active in the field of translating from Church Slavic. Their work chiefly comprises texts used during services, and the main purpose of the translations is religious instruction and didactics. Certain of the editions are intended for Poles who are not fluent in the Church Slavic language, used in the services.

    This paper is devoted to one particular historical source: the praise of the Grand Princess of Vladimir, Maria Shvarnovna, the first wife of Vsevolod III the Big Nest. The text can be found in the Chronicle of Trinity Monastery, compiled in Moscow around 1408. The monument has not survived to our days and we have only a reconstruction of the text by Priselkov. The publication is divided into three parts. The introduction gives background information on Maria Shvarnovna and the text. Secondly, the Old-Church-Slavonic/Old Russian original edition is included. The last and the longest part of the article contains the complete Polish translation. Bible citations and all additional historical information and references can be found in the footnotes.

    The image of Simeon the Great in Bulgarian sources, both contemporary to his reign and written only a little later, seems rather one-sided and lacking significant details. The tsar is depicted as an outstanding, mighty monarch, deeply pious and well oriented in the Bible, as well as in the works of the patristic authorities (mainly Athanasius, Basil the Great and John Chrysostom), an avid reader and a lover of books. Simeon is thus a truly Christian ruler, a follower of peaceful policies, and a warrior only in the face of aggression. The foundations of his strength are supposed to lie in God’s protection. Such a depiction is far from the one preserved in the Byzantine literature, dominated by Simeon’s military activity. The paper is supplemented by the Polish translation of the Praise to Tsar Simeon (by Zofia Brzozowska) with the Old Church Slavonic original (post K. Kuev’s edition).

    Opis:
    In the article, a perspective of interpretation of the phenomenon of female anachoresis (departure to the desert as a gesture of discarding “the world”), slightly different from traditional one, has been proposed. The hermit-monkish tradition has been shown in reference to the psycho-transgression theory and the concept of socio-cultural habitus. The main goal was recognition of the anachoresis as a phenomenon of spiritual emigration, in a certain sense close to the internal emigration, and exposition of the model of hermit’s life as an unobvious act which involves not only ideas commonly known but also less frequently emphasized predilections and psychological mechanisms of a transcendental and transgression nature. For that reason, the fact of defining spiritual emigration turned out to be important, since it was realized as a kind of way out of the world: migration to the desert which was to reflect the socio-cultural notion of internal emigration, broadly understood as movement and change, motivated by projected or secondary achieved satisfaction, happiness, perfection, etc. In the presented reflection, an approach to the phenomenon of female anachoresis as an act of symbolic transgression was crucial, since it was conceived as going beyond the socio-cultural habitus framework, and a s a rejection action resulted, despite the paradoxically continuous duplication of dominant order matrices, in some loosening the habitual corset. An universal concept of the ideal of hermit-monkish life along with typology of spiritual attitudes shaped and implemented in various spatiotemporal contexts have remained, however, a peculiar frame of consideration discussed in the article. In intention and result, the reflection is in the current of commonly accepted rudiments, and has a linear conceptual dimension combining early Christian and medieval patterns, and growing out of the ground of diverse and time-differentiated, however, ideally close or even common body of cultural texts.

    The text constitutes the second part of the publication cycle addressing the problems of translation of the Old Church Slavonic literature into Polish together with the bibliographic data. The first part was devoted to translations from the second part of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st century. The following article and the bibliography (annex) comprise the period from the beginning of the 19th century until the end of the first half of the 20th century (1806–1948). Old Church Slavonic literary texts, discovered and popularized at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries and acknowledged as particularly precious literary cornerstones of the oldest Slavic literary output, were translated into many modern languages including Polish. Polish translations from the 19th and the first half of the 20th century mainly focus on three basic texts: The Tale of Igor’s Campaign, The Nestor’s Chronicle as well as on one of the oldest masterpieces of the original Old Church Slavonic literary output – St Methodius’ Life. The article briefly presents the history of translations of the above-mentioned and also other works. Bibliographic materials in the annex comprise texts translated and published as a whole (or their large excerpts published with the title referring to a given work).

    Series of eschatological exegeses in prophet Daniel’s visions in the context of the doctrinal dispute of Eastern Christianity and Judaism (about the manuscript BN 12245) The Bible’s Book of Daniel, along with commentaries of St. Hippolytus of Rome, belongs to the most important sources of Christian knowledge about the end of the world and the Final Judgment. In the medieval Old Church Slavonic literature, the Book of Daniel functions not only as a part of the Old Testament canon (separately or with comments), but it is also present in historiography, and in particular in apocryphal literature. Prophet Daniel and his vision of four beasts are also the basis for preparation of new eschatological texts where the threads of the doctrinal dispute with Judaism are noticeable. Such writings include a series of visions of Prophet Daniel with commentaries, rarely encountered in Cyrillic manuscripts, featured in Codex BN 12245. The article presents a textological, historical and literary analysis of the text. Cykl apokaliptycznych egzegez wizji proroka Daniela w kontekście doktrynalnego sporu wschodniego chrześcijaństwa z judaizmem (na materiale kodeksu BN 12245) Biblijna Księga Daniela, wraz z komentarzami św. Hipolita Rzymskiego, należy do ważniejszych źródeł wiedzy chrześcijan na temat końca świata i Sądu Ostatecznego. W średniowiecznej literaturze cerkiewnosłowiańskiej materiał Księgi Daniela funkcjonuje nie tylko jako część korpusu kanonicznych pism Starego Testamentu (osobno lub z komentarzami), ale obecny jest też w historiografii, a zwłaszcza w literaturze apokryficznej. Postać proroka Daniela i jego wizja czterech bestii są też bazą opracowywania nowych tekstów o tematyce eschatologicznej, w których widoczne są wątki doktrynalnego sporu z judaizmem. Do takich pism zalicza się rzadko spotykany w rękopisach cyrylickich cykl komentowanych wizji proroka Daniela, jaki znajduje się w kodeksie BN 12245. W artykule przedstawiono analizę tekstologiczną i historycznoliteracką zabytków.

    Bible Commentaries by Theophylact of Ohrid in the collection of manuscripts in PolandIn the Church Slavonic literary tradition, Theophylact of Ohrid is mostly associated with his exegeses to the Bible. The collections of Cyrillic manuscripts in Poland include only a single copy of his annotated Book of Gospels (BN 12431 III, beginning of the sixteenth century), which has not yet been the subject of a separate study. The book is particularly interesting and valuable, as it contains archaic linguistic features, proving that it is an extremely old copy of the first Slavonic translation of the work. This is an important example of the presence of manuscripts related to Old East Slavonic, and also indirectly – Old Church Slavonic literary tradition in the former Polish-Lithuanian state. The article gives a codicological and linguistic characteristic of this manuscript, and its primary aim is to draw attention to the manuscript from researchers of the works of Theophylact of Ohrid, the Church Slavonic literature, and the Bible. Komentarze do Ewangelii Teofilakta Ochrydzkiego w zbiorach rękopisów w PolsceW cerkiewnosłowiańskiej tradycji piśmienniczej postać Teofilakta Ochrydzkiego najczęściej kojarzona jest z jego egzegezami do ksiąg biblijnych. W zbiorach rękopisów cyrylickich w Polsce znajduje się tylko jeden egzemplarz Ewangeliarza komentowanego (BN 12431 III, początek XVI wieku), który dotychczas nie był przedmiotem osobnych badań. Kodeks należy do szczególnie ciekawych i cennych, bowiem zawiera archaiczne cechy językowe, świadczące o tym, że jest kopią bardzo starego tekstu pierwszego słowiańskiego przekładu dzieła. Jest to ważny przykład obecności na terenach dawnego państwa polsko-litewskiego rękopisów związanych ze staroruską, a pośrednio również starobułgarską tradycją piśmienniczą. Artykuł jest kodykologiczną i językową charakterystyką tego rękopisu i ma na celu zwrócenie na niego uwagi badaczy zajmujących się twórczością Teofilakta Ochrydzkiego oraz cerkiewnosłowiańską literaturą biblijną.

    Настоящая статья является пробой панорамного представления актуальных проблем развития украинской конфессионной лексики. Процесс стабилизации религиозной жизни украинцов, который начался в 90-ые гг. ХХ века, все еще требует разрешения многих вопросов. Одной из наиболее важных задач является нормализация языка, используемого в отправлении религиозного культа. Настоящее состояние украинской христианско-религиозной лексики демонстрируется в статье многочисленными примерами из молитвенников, катехизисов и различных изданий Святого Писания, что позволяет сделать вывод о дотаточно свободном использовании языковых эквивалентов из области фонетики, морфологии, словообразования, синтаксиса, стилистики и лексики.

    Obiektem analizy w niniejszym artykule są cerkiewnosłowiańskie zapożyczenia leksykalne wyekscerpowane z tekstów dwóch XVI-wiecznych zabytków piśmiennictwa starobiałoruskiego: Kroniki Supraskiej oraz Latopisu Krasińskich. W artykule uwzględniono również te wyrazy obce, które poprzez język cerkiewnosłowiański trafiły do języka staroruskiego, jednak genetycznie mogły mieć inne pochodzenie. Na podstawie zebranego materiału zostały wyodrębnione dwa rodzaje zapożyczeń: formalnosemantyczne oraz kalki wyrazowe. W obu latopisach przeważają zapożyczenia leksykalne właściwe, a ich semantyka jest związana głównie ze sferą religijną. Porównanie materiału badawczego wypisanego z Kroniki Supraskiej oraz Latopisu Krasińskich pozwala stwierdzić, iż pierwszy zabytek wykazuje silniejszy związek z tradycją cerkiewnosłowiańską. Większość udokumentowanych w nim zapożyczeń pochodzi z najstarszej części będącej kompilacją wcześniejszych latopisów ruskich.
    This article focuses on the analysis of lexical borrowings from the Old Church Slavonic language excerpted from two 16th-century monuments of Old Belorussian writing: the Supraśl Chronicle and the Krasińscy Chronicle. In the article the borrowings which got into the Old Russian language through the Old Church Slavonic language have also been considered, although they could have been of a different provenance. On the basis of the collected data two types of borrowings can be distinguished: structural-semantic and calque. In both chronicles dominate lexical borrowings proper and their semantics is connected mainly with religious matters. The comparison of research material obtained from the Supraśl Chronicle and the Krasińscy Chronicle leads to the conclusion that the former demonstrates stronger links with the Old Church Slavonic tradition. Most of its documented borrowings can be found in the oldest part which is a compilation of earlier Ruthenian chronicles.
