    In this paper, the MOS differential pair driven simultaneously from gates and bulk terminals is described. An approximated analytical solution of the voltage to current transfer function has been found for the proposed circuit. Four possible combinations of gate and bulk connections of the input signal are presented. Basing on the configuration giving the best linearity, the operational transconductance amplifier (OTA) has been designed and compared, by computer simulations, to the amplifier utilizing the gate driven classic MOS pair. 3rd order filters using the OTAs with linearized and simple MOS pair have been designed and the resulting parameters have been compared. Linearization through the presented simultaneous use of gate and bulk terminals seems to be useful for low voltage applications.

    In this paper a technique to improve the common-mode rejection ratio (CMRR) at high frequencies in the OTA-C filters is proposed. The technique is applicable to most OTA-C filters using CMOS operational transconductance amplifiers (OTA) based on differential pairs. The presented analysis shows that a significant broadening of CMRR bandwidth can be achieved by using a differential pair with the bodies of transistors connected to AC ground, instead of using a pair with the bodies connected to the sources. The key advantages of the technique are: no increase in power consumption (except for an optional tuning circuit), a small increase of a chip area, a slight modification of the original filter. The simulation results for exemplary OTAs and a low-pass filter, designed in a 0.35 μm CMOS process, show the possibility of broadening the CMRR bandwidth several times.

    This study employed Geographic Information System (G.I.S.) as a tool in assessing the geospatial distribution of the waste bin collection points in Sango-Ota to determine the efficiency in various locations in the town. The population figures of 1991, 2006 and the projected population of the various political wards for 2012 from the National Population Commission, Abuja were employed; the coordinates of the existing public waste bins were taken using Garmin 760 GPS (Global Positioning System) with high accuracy, georeferenced Quickbird image from the Office of Surveyor General of the Federation, Abuja with 0.5m resolution of the study area was employed. However, entities such as Roads, Buildings and Rivers among others were extracted from the configuration. Attribute data were collected for each entity; spatial database also created for the entities in order to determine how effective and efficient the public waste bins are. Spatial analyses like buffering and overlay operations were performed in ArcGIS 10.0 version and results revealed that the available waste collection points are not enough to handle the total waste generated as a result of rapid development. It is concluded that by the year 2020, the population of the study area will have risen to 268,896 and the waste to be generated will be in the neighbourhood of over 400 tonnes in which if not properly managed can lead to outbreak of epidemic. Recommendations were put forward to the relevant agencies for decisions and prompt actions.

    This article is a comparative overview of short stories by Ota Pavel from his collections Smrt krásných srnců [The Death of the Beautiful Roebucks] and Jak jsem potkal ryby (How I Came to Know Fish). The background for Pavel’s prose are texts written by Bruno Schulz and Artur Sandauer. The aim of this comparison is to capture some universal themes of those works, including writing strategies, which transform classical autobiographical conventions.
    Praca jest komparatystycznym spojrzeniem na opowiadania Oty Pavla z tomów Śmierć pięknych saren i Jak spotkałem się z rybami. Tłem dla prozy czeskiego pisarza jest twórczość Brunona Schulza i Artura Sandauera. Porównanie to ma na celu uchwycenie pewnych uniwersalnych elementów łączących ich dzieła. Uniwersalność ta widoczna jest w wykorzystywanych strategiach pisarskich, przetwarzających konwencję klasycznej autobiografii.

    The article is dedicated to a lexical analysis of adjectival nouns with the –ota suffix in Adam Mickiewicz’s Pan Tadeusz. Out of five nouns, viewed against the 19th century language norm, four are definitely archaisms. These are the words: ciemnota meaning , szczodrota (generosity) and some uses of the words cnota (virtue) and hołota (the poor and badly educated). On top of the noun ciemnota meaning which is a typical Easter Borderlands archaism, they should be traced back to the literary tradition. This is corroborated by the fact that the poet used them in an informed way to make the text sound like Old Polish. Therefore, with respect to the function and the archaic origin, the nouns with the –ota suffix in the text of “Pan Tadeusz” can be divided into two groups: stylistic archaisms which come from the literary tradition (szczodrota, partly cnota and hołota) plus systemic archaisms which belong to Mickiewicz’s idiolectal system (ciemnota meaning ).

    W pracy przedstawiono dwójnikową syntezę oscylatorów kwadraturowych, gdzie poprzez zastosowanie rezystancji ujemnej zależnej od częstotliwości (FDNR – Frequency Dependent Negative Resistance) uzyskano oscylator rzędu n = 3. Ponadto zaproponowano metrologiczną aplikację oscylatora kwadraturowego o n = 3 zbudowanego z wykorzystaniem trzech wzmacniaczy typu OTA o sterowanych transkoduktancjach do jednoczesnego przetwarzania zmian dwóch składowych impedancji dwójników RC.
    The paper presents the two-port synthesis of quadrature oscillators in which there was obtained a third order quadrature oscillator by use of a FDNR (FDNR - Frequency Dependent Negative Resistance) resistance. There is proposed the metrological application of the third order quadrature oscillator, based on three operational transconductance amplifiers (OTA), for simultaneous processing of changes of two RC two-port impedance components to frequency. The example use of this oscillator is measurement of chosen impedance components {C0;tgδ0} of the measured object. The converter enables simultaneous measurements of these two parame-ters, where changes of the capacity C0 value correspond to changes of the pulsation ω0 value, and changes of the dielectric dissipation factor tgδ0 value correspond to the rise or the fall of the amplitude of generated signals. Due to its proprieties, the proposed RC two-port parameter changes converter can be used for constructing a comparator circuit, of the general block diagram presented in paper [5], for testing dielectrics.

    This article concerns two visions of rivers in chosen texts by Stanislav Kostka Neumann and Ota Pavel. Rivers do not constitute merely a countryside element for the authors; to both of them they have become an inspiration to comment on the Czech culture, human nature and the relation between a human being and the natural environment. The problem of how a human being treats the universe where he belongs, is examined by the author of the article in the context of environmental ethics, especially the philosophy of nature by Albert Schweitzer, who is considered to be the founder of environmentalism. This famous Alsatian thinker, doctor, musician, who obtained the Nobel Prize after the WW II, did not idealize nature, but claimed that it is a human being who introduces a moral reflection into the natural world. At the same time, he perceived a person not to be superior, but equal to other creatures, as all of them share the mystery of death, however only a human being is able to make it the basis for solidarity and sympathy.

    The Vertical Slit-based Field-Effect Transistor (VeSFET) is a novel junctionless device with two identical, independently controlled gates. The VeSFET, so far prototyped only as single-device test structures, has been considered in the literature exclusively as a component of digital systems. This article shows that the device’s properties make it attractive also for the analog designer. Some of the VeSFET’s analog-design related parameters are compared with those of the MOSFET of the corresponding technology node. Subsequently, a two-stage Miller operational transconductance amplifier (OTA) is proposed that makes use of the VeSFET’s two independently-controlled gates to drastically reduce the common-mode gain. An example application of the OTA in a current mirror is also presented.

    Opis:
    A new technique to enhance single-stage operational transconductance amplifiers (OTAs) is presented. Enhanced DC gain and reduced input parasitic capacitances are achieved by employing two input fully-differential voltage combiners, i.e. a combination of transistors in common-drain and common-source configurations operating as a preamplifier stage. Simulation results show that the input capacitance can be as small as 195 fF (corresponding to a 46 % reduction) while achieving a GBW of 1982 MHZ (@ CL = 1 pF) with a PM of about 60⁰. The complete amplifier dissipates only 1.78 mW corresponding to a figure-of-merit (FoM) of 1115 MHz-pF/mW.

    W pracy przedstawiono propozycję nowego rozwiązania przetwornika zmian parametrów (G,C) i (C, tgδ) dwójnika RC pozwalającego w oparciu o układ oscylatora kwadraturowego rzędu trzeciego na jednoczesny pomiar dwóch parametrów, przy czym zmianom jednego z parametrów odpowiadają zmiany wartości pulsacji sygnału wyjściowego przetwornika, natomiast zmianom wartości drugiego z parametrów – odpowiednio – wzrost lub spadek wartości amplitudy generowanych sygnałów. Opisano także zalety i wady zaproponowanego rozwiązania.
    In the aper the proposal of new solution of RC two-port (G,C) and (C, tgδ) simultaneous parameter changes – to – frequency converter is presented. The converter is based on third kind quadrature oscillator (see Fig.2) where one of the measuring two-port parameters is converted into frequency, however second parameter changes - suitably converted – to the growth or the fall of amplitude value U1 or U2 of generated signals. The detailed processing variants for Y0 or Y1 admittance changes (G0,C0) (variant A), (G0,tgδ0) (variant B) and (G1,C1) (variant C) are presented in the Table 1. As a result of analysis was affirmed that every relative changes |ΔG0/G0|, |Δtgδ0/tgδ0| or |ΔG1/G1| of measured admittance Y0 or Y1 have conversion coefficient equal to unity to the relative voltage changes |ΔU1/U1| or |ΔU2/U2|. The advantage of proposed converter solution is the easy setting of impedance / admittance changes – to – frequency conversion constant K, described by equations (8a) and (8b), respectively. Recapitulating, the proposed converter solution according to Fig.2 is suitable to processing of (C0, tgδ0) RC two-port component changes (see conversion variant B according to Table 1).

    W pracy przedstawiono uogólniony model matematyczny nowej klasy przetworników parametrów {(R;C), (C; tgδ=ωRC), (G;C); (C; tgδ=G/ωC)} (dwójników RC postaci Z = R+1/jωC lub dwójników GC postaci Y = G+jωC) , pozwalających w oparciu o układ oscylatora kwadraturowego rzędu trzeciego (por. rysunek 1a,b) na jednoczesny pomiar tych dwóch parametrów, przy czym zmianom jednego z parametrów (C) odpowiadają zmiany wartości pulsacji ω sygnału wyjściowego przetwornika, natomiast zmianom wartości drugiego z parametrów (R, G, tgδ) – odpowiednio – wzrost lub spadek wartości amplitudy U1 i U2 generowanych sygnałów. Wskazano przy tym na optymalne układy analizowanej klasy przetworników.
    In the paper the generalized model of simultaneous new two parameter {(R;C), (C; tgδ=ωRC), (G;C); (C; tgδ=G/ωC)} changes (of two-port RC given in form Z = R+1/jωC or GC network given in form Y = G+jωC) converter with frequency output is presented.
